Professor Layton and the Living Dead
Prologue: the mysterious letter
"Dear Professor Layton,
I'm sorry to make this request of you, but I need help. Recently I have started to see the world clearly again. It's like I have woken up from a trance or a come or something of the sort. However, I have no recollection of who I am, or used to be. I can't even remember my name or birthday. Even stranger, people treat me, like I'm some kind of monster. They are scared of me or straight up refuse to talk to me. I have no idea why, it confuses me greatly, but I'm too afraid to ask about it.
I came across you and your amazing talent to solve any mystery, no matter how impossible it seemed to solve. I'm asking you, with everything I have and hold dear, to help me solve my mystery. The mystery of the monster woman, or the ghost woman, whatever you prefer to call my case. I beg you to help me. I don't know what else I should do, you are my only hope.
I forgot to mention that it might not be an easy task to help me regain my memories. Someone I call 'The Phantom' is haunting me. I don't know them or what they have to do with me, but this Phantom leaves flowers and letters at places I visit often. And men that I talked to suddenly either disappear or stop talking to me. And I mean talking like just making casual conversation. It's like, this Phantom is obsessed with me. It's really scary, so please be careful, Professor.
I'm staying in the Central Hotel in London, Room number 224. If you want to help me, just go there so we can meet. I don't blame you if this mystery is one that should stay unsolved. Especially with that ghost or whatever it is on my back. I'm looking forward to seeing you, Professor Layton.
Thank you in advance,
S.A."
This Letter was send to the archaeologist and his assistants. Whoever this woman was, even in her letter she sounded scared and confused.
"Let's solve this mystery, shall we?", Layton asked Emmy and Luke, who both jumped at the opportunity for a new adventure, even if it sounded kinda boring at first. Luke however did find it rather odd that the woman knew nothing about herself and asked why they would take such an ordinary request.
"It's not as ordinary as it may look, my boy. Besides, no matter how ordinary the request, a true gentleman always helps a lady in need.", the professor stated and tugged at his top hat. Emmy smiled.
"Seems like it's going to be another adventure. How exciting. Especially with that Phantom around. I wonder who that might be.", Emmy is easily excited. Layton smiled at the two and they made their way to the hotel and asked to be taken to room 224. As they were taken to the room, Layton had a feeling of being watched, but shrugged it off as it was just a thought. When they stood in front of the room and knocked on the door, the woman that opened the door surprised the Professor and his companions.
"Thank you for coming, Professor. Come in.", the woman said and let the Professor enter. All the while, the 4 were watched.
"Of course. Helping a lady in need is the job of a true gentleman. You're request sounded quite urgent, Miss…..", Layton struggled to address the woman. Emmy helped him by simply saying that her hair was red, so Scarlett would be a fitting name. The woman seemed to light up at the name, as if it was something she remembered. Professor Layton, Luke and Emmy started referring to the woman as 'Scarlett', and the woman seemed to like the name. Luke than sated that Scarlett is a really beautiful woman, which caused her to blush heavily. Maybe she does remember some things of her past.
