Prologue
An overwhelming smell of rubbing alcohol and the constant itching from her nose woke a seventeen-year-old girl lying within the Phoenix Medical Hospital. There was bandaging gauze around her brunette wavy-haired head, keeping it secure since she had a fractured skull. There was a rib belt that was wrapped smug around her waist, from four broken ribs, and she was experiencing extensive blood loss, along with her left leg being broken. The bruises would be the least of her problems since she had more concerning injuries, she had sustained from whatever accident she had been in.
Her brown eyes went all over the room, only to feel her body relax as she noted her father and mother sitting next to each other in chairs that were pushed a little closer to each other. Both were lightly sleeping; the exhaustion was ever present on their features. It was the only time the girl had seen her parents sitting next to each other, since they had divorced by the time, she had been six months old.
She preferred to call them Renee and Charlie than just Mom and Dad. They didn't even live in the same state, and Renee had been married to the girl's stepdad, Phil, since September. Charlie was living in Forks, Washington and he was the Chief-of-Police, so yes, it was odd seeing her parents sitting next to each other.
"Mom? Dad?"
The girl flinched as she fidgeted with the oxygen tubes in her nose, which in return made her even more irritated. She was stopped when a hand reached out and took her hand to pull it away from her face. She looked up, noting how Charlie was looking down at her with watery eyes.
Those brown eyes they shared were filled with red irritation from him crying, he was only in his late thirties, but he looked twice his age. He still had his signature black mustache upon his upper lip and his hair was still full despite the fact his father had already started losing his hair when he was his age. He had his Chief-of-Police leather jacket draped over one of the hospital visitors' chairs. He was wearing just a random shirt he had must have put on when he heard the news of what had happened to her.
"Bells!"
Charlie went to hug her, something that would have been odd since he wasn't a touchy-feely person just like Bella wasn't a touchy-feely person too but because Bella had been in serious accident, she would have expected this.
Though, what had happened for her to end up in a situation like this?
"Dad, why are you here? What happened?" Bella probed, carefully, afraid that if she had asked this, she would learn something she should have rather have not been told about. She didn't know if she could handle the truth.
Charlie took a deep breath before he asked her the last thing she remembered. Without hesitation she told him how she had been planning on moving to Forks in about a week so she could continue the last of her junior year and her entirety of senior year.
She hadn't expected to hear the words: "Bella, sweetie, it's March. You don't remember the last three months, do you?"
Obsidian swallowed her whole, and Bella passed out, not knowing about the bite mark that was upon her wrist, which was cooler than the rest of her body, nor how her amnesia was going to be both a blessing and a curse.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: 'Handle with Care' is an AU TWILIGHT VERSE where Bella sustains amnesia from James's attack. It would make sense she would lose her memories, and probably would have been a really good twist in New Moon in my opinion. This fanfiction will be Bella/Alec, but Alec will be 19 when he is changed into a vampire with his sister, Jane. Just like in my other fanfictions, Jane will be a brunette. I love Dakota Fanning but I'm sticking to the hair color canonically. I hope that you will enjoy this fanfiction.
It was inspired by Volterra Vignettes by cullens_pet on Archive of Our Own. I am NOT claiming the idea as my own. I was just inspired. Go check it out, I promise you'll like the fanfiction series/ 4 parts.
