LET ME SAVE YOU THE TROUBLE. This story is part of a massive series I will be releasing. It will takes years to complete though. It's progression is a bit slow and will take time to progress. But I promise it's worth it. It's just a heads up for future readers so they don't waste their time reading it. Plus almost 85% of the readers only get to the first chapter and stop reading. OC Character will be featured throughout it as a 'MAIN' Character. First 3-6 Chapters will have little progression. If you just wanna get straight into the missions and skip the OC Character intro and slow build up... Go to Chapter 10. Thanks and enjoy the wonderful journey that begins in front of you.
Author Notes: Hello everyone. This is my very first attempt at writing a fanfiction. I've been reading fanfics since 2017 and decided to start writing my own fanfics. I'm a huge cartoons fan, I mostly read the cartoon fanfics. Kim Possible was not the first fanfic cartoon I began to read. Rick and Morty was the first one, followed by Total Drama, Danny Phantom, Fairly Odd Parents and a few other shows. I've started to like and enjoy reading KP fanfics. Anyway, for the past month I've been researching about Kim Possible and even finding a limited number of stories which included a number of OC characters or an OC character not part of the main story. I've actually seen one from 'guardian1989' recently from their 'Crossroads of a Possible Destiny'. So, since December I've decided to start writing a fanfic which included a creation character that resembles sort of myself, but in a fictional version. I know it sounds a bit silly, but it wouldn't hurt to try, keeping in mind I'm trying to actually redo the whole Kim Possible Series, but my way, including some real life episodes that have aired. So don't be surprised if some of the scene are adapted to the show or film. I will try my best to not recite word for word. Also, I'm hoping to complete this story, but this is a kind of project which will take years to complete. So, I've made a system to post a chapter when I reach a word count above 25,000 Words ahead from the previous chapter, I would post the next chapter. In short terms once a week, but due to the delay of the FF, I'll post the first two chapters of the story. On the week of my 21st Birthday. Yippee! First Chapter contains a bit of background details of the OC character. Anyway, enough of me talking, hope you guys enjoy this fanfiction. Also, one other thing. The rating for this story is T, but it will sometimes go towards a M rating. There will be some explicit language and some dark humour there and there, But mostly T rating. You've been warned. Seriously. God now I sound like Motor Ed.
Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own Kim Possible or any other relevant stuff. KP is the property of the Walt Disney Company. My OC Characters are owned by me.
Heads Up: The first 4-6 Chapters will include a lot of the OC Character more than the original cast, it will slowly bring in the others from the series.
Ron won't be directly involved much in this story. But wait for the future stories to be released. Might want to stick around for those.
One last important thing. This is how the layout of the series will happen in dot point form. It's my version of things that have happened.
- Kim Possible has already met her top 5 villains before her Sophomore year in high school, except for one of them. That will be mentioned in this fanfiction. Other villains will appear mixed throughout the series.
- Kim's missions or reference to previous missions will be more realistic instead of being something impossible to impose more realistic scenes in the FF series. (E.G Kim wrestling a shark with her bare hands)
- Like the original show, it will be mostly the same themes. Humour will be present, alongside Drama, Action, Adventure and Thriller. When I recreate some of the original episode ideas, don't expect it to have the same outcome during those scenes. I'll be doing this often. Around 25% of original episodes will be recycled.
- Ron will not be a main character throughout this fanfiction. Which affects some of the original timeline. But... (See what I did there?)
- Josh Mankey is the same year level as Kim Possible. (Some speculation that he finished High school a year earlier than Kim and Ron.)
- Some scenes and episodes from the original show will be recycled. But not every detail or info mentioned in the series will be exactly the same.
- New Villains and New OC Characters will appear within the series. Some OC Characters are based on creational characters from friends drawings.
- An OC character will be part of the main cast for this fanfiction series. Created by moi.
Enough talk. Let's get this started!

BE SURE ALSO TO CHECK OUT MY POLL ON KIM POSSIBLE
The rain was heavily pouring on a dark and gloomy day. It was typical funeral weather. A large crowd is gathered in a cemetery all holding black umbrellas. There is a lot of crying and sniffling that can be heard.
A coffin was in place to be lowered into the grave with multiple wreaths, flowers and lots of picture frames of a red-haired teenage girl with ruddy skin surrounding it. The tombstone writes 'Kimberly Ann Possible 2006-2024 The greatest teen-heroine in the world and beloved daughter of James Possible and Ann Possible'. On top of it had a miniature gold statue of the girl as if she was in the middle of performing a flying kick, wearing what looks like a set of mission attire.
We see Kim's family, relatives, friends multiple people from her high school and people who have helped her throughout her journey in attendance at her funeral with all having all sad, upset reactions.
"She was so young! Why did they take my baby girl away" Mrs Possible says sobbing as her husband consoles her with a sad expression patting her back, He was trying his best to be strong. Especially today.
Her brothers looked saddened too, both holding flowers to drop down into the grave afterwards. Both look at each other hugging each other. They only got each other now.
In the far distance within a visible view, we see 3 figures overseeing the funeral, two quite large figures that have a bit of a glow on their outlines, while the other figure is a long-haired teenager with his hair tied in a manbun, groomed bread, dressed in a very sharp black suit staring with his eyes wide open. Ignoring the pouring rain. Every second his hair and clothes were getting drenched, but that was the least of his problems as he was in a shocked and disbelief state.
"No. NO! NOOOO! THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE! WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED HERE!" he gestures with his hand to the other two figures alongside him. The teen stars bawling out his eyes and goes on his knees, trying to avoid what he's seeing.
Melbourne, a vibrant city in the country of Australia. Home of many places; Entertainment, Sport, Diversity, Graffiti work in its cities laneways, Expensive coffee and 4 seasons of weather in one day. It's the crack of dawn and the sun is slowly rising up on a beautiful sunny and slightly chilly Monday morning on the 1st day of July here in Melbourne, Australia. Surprisingly enough it looked like a great day to spend the whole day outside, even if it's the middle of Winter. Somewhere in this magnificent city a 14-Year old boy peacefully sleeping in his bedroom. Unfortunately, he was about to get a rude awakening from his smartphone right next to him on his nightstand in 3 2 1…
'BRINGGGG BRINGGGG BRINGGGG BRINGGGG BRINGGGG'
Hearing this loud ringtone go off less than a metre away from him, he slowly begins to open up eyes from the continuous ringing of the alarm going off from his iPhone. He slowly picks up his square-framed glasses and places them between his ears and squints his eyes to pick up his phone to switch off his alarm. Upon switching it off he notices the time '7:00AM'.
He overhears the sound of a sliding door being closed and hearing it lock in another room in the house, which only can mean that his mother has woken up for the day too, it also meant it was time to get up as well.
*CUE VINYL RECORD SCRATCHING*
"I betcha you're wondering who this fellow is. This is me, Paul. A 14-year-old kid. You may not know about me, but you are going to know a lot about me sooner than later. I come from a family of 5. I'm the oldest sibling within my family, which means I have to be a good role model for my sisters, which in this case I am."
He gets up from his bed and proceeds to complete his daily morning routine as he normally would when preparing for school.
"A lot of people at school call me a great guy, as I'm a nice, respectful person to everyone, a very bright and smart young man, funny in some cases depending on which kind of humour I use and very open kind of guy, but there's one thing that stands out that makes me very different from the other kids my age."
As Paul washes his face in the bathroom sink he stares at the mirror while the voice-over continues.
"I'm very mature for my age. That's right. I mean I have a bit of a joke here and there, for certain circumstances and situations you have to be serious. I mean... hey we're all human am I right? You see during your pre-teen years, most teens act very immature in certain ways, thinking they know everything, their parents are always wrong, doing things without viewing the consequences down the track and they think they are on top of the world and saying 'Fuck you world, I'm top shit'."
Paul proceeds to get change, buttoning his light blue long-sleeved school shirt, tucking in the leftover of the long shirt into his pants and buckling his belt. Applying his school tie around his shirt's collar and proceeding to put on his black school jumper around his head and arm sleeves. After the completion of applying his school jumper, which he even wore during the summer period of the school year as he loved wearing it to school, he then turns around to see his school jacket. "As for being that kind of teenager…."
Paul proceeds to give a small grin, as he walks to the jacket which was presented neatly on a coat hanger, hanging on the top of the shower's screen glass.
"I don't fall under that category. But teenagers can change their ways very quickly."
He puts on the jacket, as he looks into the mirror to check his appearance. He then reaches for his hair gel product to apply his normal hairstyle a slick back finish. His brown hair was pretty short on the sides not compared to what he has it during his school holidays or breaks. One day during his Year 7 school days, which was last year. He was nearly suspended for having a skin-fade haircut on the casual day which falls under the last day of each term. He was sent home and wasn't happy with this decision. From now on, he kept it a bit longer to prevent from getting in further trouble.
The thought about that day disappointed him and was frustrated regarding the rules of haircuts, but though he was told a story about a baseball team called the 'New York Yankees' from his History/English/School Headteacher Mr Joseph Grammaitkopoulos, which Paul had known him for a short time and considered him as one of his favourite teachers, as he had a way of teaching and bringing a fascinating way to educate his students. So the story was back in the 1970s the Yankees owner decided to enforce a policy regarding appearances, stating that haircuts must be above the collar of their jersey and no beards are to be permitted.
When he thought about this, Paul realised his teacher made a valid point. Especially the Yankees had such a great reputation with Major League Baseball and have the most World Series wins out of anyone in MLB history. I think you can tell about Paul, he really loved Sports and History.
"I'm just a regular kid who wants to make the world a better place and be the best of friends to people that are close in my life or family members, be by their side and protect them to my fullest extent, because after all… You can't choose your family, but you can choose your friends."
"Morning mum." Paul said with a smile to his face
"Good morning sweetie." said the brunette woman back to her son smiling as she gives him a quick kiss, before heading back into the kitchen preparing her kids lunches for the day.
"This is my mum, Madelyn. She is a loving mother who takes care of her two loving children. Unfortunately, she is a single mother, but astonishingly she sees my father more than you expect. You see my father is a busy man, he owns a construction company. 1 day I hope to take over his business. I've already decided what to study in the future. Construction."
"Did you have a good night sleep?"
"Yeah, it was good, had a busy Sunday morning with some homework and had the football game yesterday. Glad Dad didn't drop me off home too late yesterday." Paul said in a thankful tone.
"Yeah, he tends to do that. Breakfast?" Madelyn asks her son
"Avocado on toast please, thanks!"
His mother nodded, before placing the bread in the toaster.
While waiting for his breakfast to be ready, he fills his school bag with the books and stationery required for the day, in his work area. He zips up his bag and places it on the floor near the garages front door entrance. Dusting his hands off, he walks back into the dining area to take a seat, as he notices his younger sibling sitting on the other end of the table.
"Morning sis and sis, how are you two this morning?"
"I'm fine thanks." She says before going back onto her phone and eating her breakfast.
"Great
"These are my two sisters, Gwen and Gwyneth. Gwen is 12 years old and Gwyneth is 10. She's the youngest child of the family. She is a kind girl, quite a social butterfly despite her young age. She's a really smart girl as well. While Gwen is a old soul, she enjoys old music, photography and art. Both go to the same school as me, but my mum insists that both will leave at the end of the year to move somewhere else.
"That's good." he says as he pulls out his phone to browse through overnight and today's news headlines.
"Do you know where my headphones are by any chance?" Gwen asks her brother.
"You mean these?" Paul held up a set of red headphones.
"(Gasps) Oh my gosh. Thank you!" Gwyneth replies happily.
"No problem." Paul says.
"I don't understand why you don't use airpods."
"Because they fall out of my ears sis."
"That's true. That's why I waited for the AirPods Max!" Paul says pulling out his phone
After reading some articles regarding today's news and sports updates that occurred overnight from other countries around the world, suddenly a white plate with toast and a very green kind of chunky paste all over it appeared in front of him.
"Here you go. Eat up son, or will be late for school today" Madelyn tells her son.
"Thanks, mum." Paul says with a grin on his face.
"You're welcome, we'll be leaving in 5 minutes kids. So chop-chop." She said while clapping at the words 'chop'.
It was 8:11 AM and they were stuck in the middle of Monday morning traffic. Getting to school normally would take 15 minutes, if traffic was light, but being they've been on the road for nearly 10 minutes and weren't even halfway to their destination, it really showed the traffic on the road this morning is heavier than usual.
As they were slowly creeping their way up the road towards school, Paul was listening to his music through his Sony Bluetooth headphones, it would cancel all the noise around his surroundings whether it was to listening to music in peace or think about life in general. Usually, it was both at the same time. Paul had a very interesting selection of music, He would listen to Pop, R&B Soul or his favourite genre, Hip-Pop Rap. For a guy that sounds and looks like a young gentleman, you'd never think he'd listening to rap music, but he would never be influenced by what rappers the would say in their lyrics, Ever! In fact he enjoyed it because of its beats, background music instrumentals and it's rhythm. Sometimes if the lyrics were relevant to today's modern age or catchy, he would have a smile on his face. He didn't really care if people judged his taste in music. His friends have similar tastes of music as him as well.
'You lose and I win'
'Black Lincoln Town Car moving in the wind'
'I'll be the last one fighting for ya'
'Lincoln Lawyer'
'Lincoln Lawyer'
'I'll be the last fighting for ya'
'Lincoln Lawyer.'
As the lyrics finish and the song slowly fades away, the traffic starts to flow and before you know it, they have arrived at school with plenty of time to spare.
Although, school didn't start officially start until 8:30 and class didn't commence until 8:45, he didn't want to be late for school and miss out on the opportunity to greet his friends in the morning, before commencing his classes for the day.
All three children farewell their mother and wished her a great day at work, before exited the car and driving off.
Paul, Gwen and Gwyneth walked past the small gates at the front of the school, Paul drops off his sisters to there classrooms.
"Have a good day guys." Paul says to both of his sisters.
"You too bro." Gwyneth and Gwen responds back.
Paul stays for a few seconds to ensure both girls get to her classroom safely. As soon as they reach their friends, he smiles and begins to walk to the high school side of the school.
The walk didn't faze him, it was only a 2-minute walk. Some others would actually ask their parents to get dropped off from the high school end of the college once dropping off their younger siblings via the Junior side. Paul didn't ask his mum to drop him off at the other end, because of a few reasons. The main reason was that he didn't want his mum to go out of her way to drop him off, especially due to the heavy traffic on the main road. Besides, he enjoyed the nice slow walk from the Junior side to the Senior side. He loved the scenery of the long pathway. The big oval, the outdoor basketball courts and the majestic orchard of olive trees as far as he could see. It was a time to reflect his weekend, think about the week of school work ahead of him and what various events would happen throughout the week. He took his education seriously and the young man had already decided what career path to take once he turns 18.
Paul reaching towards the end of the orchard olive trees and approaching a massive multi-storey brick veneer building where he would soon meet his friends and line up in the agora for roll call, any important announcements for the week and finally ending the assembly with a prey both in Greek and English, before being dismissed.
"So this is me, Paul Kanellopoulos and you've met most of my family, I'm really enjoying loving my life, my friends, the company I'm surrounded by. In fact, you could even say that I'm floating on Cloud Nine right now. Pretty normal straight forward life. Am I right?...
Well…
...
...
...
...
That's what I thought before entering the agora area, but the fact is that within the next 30 minutes my whole life will change forever. For the better?... I was going to find out very soon."
"Yo Pauly! How are you man?" A teenager greets Paul
"Lucas, hey hey man, I'm good. What's up?" Paul walks up to his best friend as he gives him a handshake as they embrace each other and gives each other a pat on the back, separating a few seconds later.
"I'm good G, hey man did you see Tigers beat the Saints? What a win on Friday night." Both beginning to walks towards their lockers.
"(Chuckles) Yeah I saw it, shame Liverpool didn't do the same over the weekend?" Paul throwing a bit of banter.
"(Sarcastic Fake Chuckle) Not funny man, I mean Burnley is a tough side to break down, but we have the quality to win a lot of games this year." Lucas defends his team with confidence as he closes his locker door.
"Well you can't win every single game, it takes a lot of hard work and constituency to win it all, you need a fit team week in and week out, depth in the squad and need to be lucky with injuries. Or you can just like Arsenal and go 49 unbeaten games in a row!" Paul explains while putting his bag into his locker and closing it
"And still the only team to do that!"
Paul and Lucas look to their side and find a familiar face of their best friend, which goes by the name of Jason.
"Too bad you weren't around for that, still an incredible run. Although Van Nistelrooy penalty would have ended the run after 7 matches." Paul stated.
"Yeah I know, but it still happened. What's up guys?" Jason said and approached the boys placing both of his arms around their shoulders.
Both boys greeted their other close friend giving him a high-five
"But no one can compare Celtic's run during 1st World War." Paul declared.
"Oh my god, not the Celtic run again." Lucas said while placing his hand over his forehead in annoyance as the two other boys laughed at this interaction.
"Ey what up cuz."
All three boys stare in the direction of that voice and found out to be….
"MANNY!"
All of the boys walked up to Manny and greeted him with a set of handshakes
"Good to see you man."
"What's good E-Man."
"What's up Manuel."
"Yeah I'm all good boys, hey yo, Paul check it. I finally upgraded my PC with a brand new graphics card, GTX 2080."
"Woah! That's awesome dude. You've been so eager to upgrade your graphics for the last 4 months, taking about upgrading for so long. But you realise graphics cards get upgraded every few months and the FPS on some games and programs change quite often, especially your RAM Memory. Imagine how slow it can be with a bunch of Google Chrome tabs open. Like, what's the point. It completely slows down your computer and is deemed unusable with all that lag. But still great purchase man." Paul said ardently.
"Yeah I agree with you their bro, but it's going to set up my whole PC until we reach Year 12 and by that time I'll be working a part-time job somewhere. But hey man, when are you going to become part of the PC Squad man?" Manny said.
"Of course everyone has their dream set-up for their PC and as I told you previously Manny, my Razer is the only PC or in this case portable PC I'll have." Paul explains to his friend.
Before Manny could reply, a blonde-haired girl from their year level approached them. She was wearing the school's girl winter uniform.
"Hey guys." She says with a level of excitement within her voice.
"Morning Tori, how are you?" Paul responded on behalf of the group.
"Good thanks Paul, look sorry to bother you guys but Mr. G told the girls and I that we have an assembly in the gym this morning. He didn't say what for, but he told me to stay here until 20 to 9 for all the latecomers to school and send them straight to the gym." Tori explains to the quadri of friends.
Paul checked his watch '8:29' thinking the bell for assembly about go any second, but instead, it was a bell for all students to go to the gymnasium for assembly this morning. Paul was thinking all the possibilities of what it could be, he also noticed that the agora was almost emptier than usual, compared to seeing a lot of students from different year levels standing around and talking to their fellow peers until the bell rings indicating all students to line up in the agora. 'Now I noticed why it is so quiet this morning."
Upon hearing the news Manny starts walking towards the bathroom
"I'll catch you boys in the gym, I want to be the last person in there. And Paul, we'll continue our conversation afterwards."
Paul nods
"Will do." Paul says to Manny, as he continues walking to the men's bathroom.
"Typical Manny." Paul states and laughs.
The boys arrive at the gym where there are chairs set up for both the Junior and Senior side of the school. They quickly find their group level and take their seats. Everyone inside was waiting for what assembly this could be. Paul for some reason was quite anxious about this assembly. He didn't know why. He just was. Usually assembly was either short and quick or long and could take up the first few classes until recess.
"What do you think it's about?" Lucas leaning closer to ask his best friend in a curious tone.
"Well, it could be church service. Despite the fact we had it just a few weeks ago, hence the chairs are laid out. It's not Assumption Day, that's not until mid Term 3 or Ochi day that's on the 28th of October, it's the first day of June." Paul pondered to his friend. "We'll have to wait out and see what's going to happen."
Paul checked his watch '8:40 pm'. 'They should have started by now. Why am I so concerned about this assembly anyway.' he thought.
As Paul checked his watch he notices Manny coming into the gym, coming through the side which is closest to where the Senior students are sitting down.
"What did I miss?"
"Nothing much mate, you missed everything! There was a massive brawl up on stage. Took 20 motherfuckers to stop it" Paul says, as his slightly chuckles
"You funny G" Manny laughed at that joke, as the others chuckled.
5 MINUTES LATER
'8:45 AM' Paul looked down again at his watch. Every second felt like a minute for him. Classes should have started by now, but instead, he's in the gymnasium sitting down alongside everyone present at school today, waiting for the Principal of the college to start the assembly. While waiting for the assembly to begin, some latecomers arrived in the gym and the girl that spoke to Paul and the rest of the group earlier Tori, arrived to take her seat alongside the rest of her classmates. Something didn't feel right to Paul. The atmosphere felt different to other times they've had assembly. In Paul's mind, something was wrong and he can feel it. But then again he could be over exaggerating.
Finally, after what seemed like an hour, in reality only 15 minutes, a man with well-groomed short brown hair with glasses in a navy blue suit arrives on the podium and begins to speak into the microphone on stage, as the large crowd of students go from murmuring to full silence within the gym, indicating the assembly would start. Mr Bryan starts with a small introduction, before beginning prey.
After prey, Principal Bryan gives way for Mr Grammaitkopoulos to take over the podium and starts speaking into the microphone.
"Good morning, I'd like to thank everyone for attending today's important assembly here in the gym." The curly haired man said speaking into the microphone.
"Had a feeling this would be an important assembly" Paul thinks to himself.
"Now I'm guessing most students, teachers and some parents are wondering why we brought in all in here today. Over the weekend The Department of Education and Training Victoria spoke to Mr Bryan, myself and teachers of our school, alongside many other schools within Victoria regarding a new policy and joint venture with Student Exchange Program. In doing so a mandatory raffle of a few selected students will have to attend schools in different countries.
A few students murmur over this.
"Now I know this sounds a bit strange to everyone, but its government requirements and we haven't got a say in this. Also this includes for all states and territories across Australia. But now I have some bad news to deliver."
Many students raised their eyebrows at this development.
"The bad news is that someone within this college has been picked to participate in this Foreign Exchange Student Program. But the way this particular person will see this, could be a good life changing experience for them and take this as a positive note for themselves, wellbeing and as well as representing the school in many ways."
A lot of students, especially in the Senior side had a few mixed emotions about this big bombshell that was dropped. Paul had a hunch something was funny today, especially with the assembly being in the gym out of all places on a Monday morning.
"Now myself and Mr Bryan have been up since 5 am this morning talking back and forth towards the DET and DESE which is the Department of Education, Skills and Employment, whether it's a mistake or an error within the system, but I can confirm as of now, this is true. And the student's name is within this sealed envelope that I hold up in front of me." Mr Grammaitkopoulos holds up a white envelope while talking.
"And without further ado, I'd like to present a representative from the Education Department of Victoria, please welcome to the podium Mr. Kyle Lonnie." Mr Grammaitkopoulos makes way for another person in a black suit, with long black hair and glasses.
The whole Junior side clapped as a few claps could be heard from the Senior side, as it could only mean one thing. Most of them were shell-shocked, that one out of a hundred or so students are going to be moving somewhere else. Whether it's temporarily or permanently remains the question. The man in a suit wearing glasses approaches the podium and starts speaking into the microphone.
"Good morning students, I won't waste much time up on stage. My name is Kyle Lonnie and I'm proud to announce this program, which will expand multiculturalism around the globe, allowing students the opportunity to explore other countries and allowing them to adapt to the education system, culture, history and traditions. Australia has teamed up with various countries that include the United Kingdom, United States of America, France, New Zealand, Japan, Spain and Canada to allow this program to be available and schools of these countries will accept students across the nation of Australia. Now I know it's a hard decision and some people that are set to be chosen will not be happy about this decision made, it's something the Australia government made inevitable for selected students. Besides it's a raffle, it could be anyone of you. No fixed names or anything like that. Anyway with presentations out of the way, its time to announce the student that will be involved with this program." Mr Lonnie explains in a joyful manner.
Mr Grammaitkopoulos stands up and hands the sealed envelope to Mr Lonnie. As this is happening a lot of students from the Senior end are praying, hoping and anxiously awaiting the announcement of this program, hoping not to hear their name being called out. Paul on one hand looked confident that his name wouldn't be called out, but his right leg tells a different story. It was bouncing up and down like he had an annoying tick within his leg, meaning he too was praying to avoid this program.
"Thank you, and now the student who will be participating in our Foreign Exchange Student program is…"

"Paul Kanellopoulos!"
A lot of students within the gymnasium had mixed reactions upon hearing this name, some were relief, shocked, stunned and upset. Except for this one student, which upon hearing his name his eyes bulged wide open and his mouth was open like a big 'O' shape. Looking around with his eyes, realising every student around his vicinity had a pair of eyes set on him. He felt the attention of the whole gym shift to him when the person on staged called out his name. He slowly put his right hand over his hair softly, with a bit of heavy breathing coming slightly out of his mouth and sweat slowly comes from his forehead.
"Yep, at exactly '8:51 AM', this lucky guy, note my sarcasm, out of a possible 127 students from my high school was chosen to go to America. So this was the moment my whole life would change forever, this big bombshell that was dropped upon me from literally nowhere! And what happened next was a total embarrassment."
"No." Paul whispered to himself. "N- no this can't be." Paul says in disbelief.
"Paul, you good?" Lucas asked his best friend as his other friends all had worried and concerned expressions on their faces.
"Y-yeah, I'm fine man." Paul said as he stood up from his chair. "Is it hot in here or is it me?" Paul asks as he'd have been addressing to everyone around him, takes off his school jacket and loosens his tie a bit in response to the sudden increase of temperature within the gymnasium.
"Excuse me guys, I-I'm going to go outside and get some air." he says. clearly looking distressed.
While walking out to reach the nearest exit of his row, people started to notice Paul's legs trembling quite a bit. They were all now showing concern for the young kid, as many of them had so many questions and heaps of thoughts regarding this short-notice program that they haven't heard about until just a few minutes ago. Especially with the fact they are updated almost every week regarding news about the school and government announcements.
Paul reaches the end of the row and his Greek teacher Mr Salomos, a man in his late sixties with grey hair, a moustache and glasses was standing up to have an overview of students to ensure they wouldn't talk or be disruptive during the assembly.
"Are you alright Paul?" Said the man with a Greek accent.
"I'm fine sir. Just need some fresh air that's all." Paul said trying to act normal as possible.
"Paul, I think it's best if you take a seat. You look like a shaking leaf."
"Really sir, I'm okay. See?" Paul trying his hardest possible stand straight.
Mr Salomos stood in silence, feeling bad for the young man to have this news delivered to him so early in the morning. Despite learning Greek for many years, Paul has struggled to adapt to his second language. Greek. He tries hard to revise Greek phrases, sounds and the alphabet, but Paul always never gave up. He continued to give 100% effort for his Greek classes and has improved. But not ready to go into the advanced level yet.
"See." Paul now putting his hand on the chair to help him keep his strength up.
"I'm all good now. Now if you e-e-xcuse me. I'm goiii-"
He never finished his sentence as legs gave out and was now lying on the floor. Dropping quicker than a bowling pin while hitting his head quite hard against the timber floor of the indoor basketball court
Everyone around him gasped and many of them had different reactions of seeing what they just witnessed.
"PAUL!"
"OH MY GOSH!"
"SHIT!"
"QUICK PUT HIS JACKET UNDER HIS HEAD"
"FUCK!"
"QUICK GET SOME WATER!"
"IS HE GOING TO BE OKAY!?"
"CALL 000!"
"WHERE THE DAMN AMBERLAMB"
Paul heard what he could muster as he begins to close his eyes and before fading into darkness.
'DINGG DINGG DINGG DINGG DINGG DINGG DINGG DINGG'
Paul gasps and bolts his head up, feeling a stinging sensation on the back of his head. He rubs the area that hurts. He looks around wandering where he currently is for the time being. He sees A bed, first aid kit, a chair and a sink. He realised he was in the first aid room at school. He recognised it immediately, because one instance he fractured his right wrist last year. He was playing football (Aussie Rules) and was running back to take the mark but tripped in a small ditch on the oval, applying all of his body weight onto his arm, unfortunately fracturing his wrist, which was his dominant hand. He struggled to write on his opposite side and with exam week coming up, he was exempted to complete all his exams on a computer.
Ironically, he was supposed to leave school early that day because one of his sisters had an appointment. He has had some unfortunate injuries in the past. Including breaking his left arm, pulling a hamstring while playing junior football and his wrist. For a guy that had a few serious injuries, he was sort of an athletic person as he loved playing sports after all. He was 5'6 despite being 14. He considered it to be a normal average height for people his age, but some others disagreed. After all, puberty hits everyone differently. He weighed around 60kg but was quite strong and had some muscles, he wasn't ripped, but still had an impressive muscles for his age. He had a thing he would refer to when playing sports called 'Hustle'. Meaning giving 100% effort which made him a great competitor in education, but also sports. He wished one day he wouldn't get soft tissue injuries, so he could keep on playing and playing. But he would respect his follow peers that did better as it would show a more entertaining and competitive playing field, whether if it was completing a task or playing sport. He never got jealous of people out performing him. It would be a learning curve to perform at that similar level. He worked in funny ways this boy, but it always worked. Which makes him such a great person, with a lot of wisdom for a young man.
"Hey buddy, you alright?" A voice came from the door.
Paul gathered his thoughts and looked towards the doorway seeing his best friend Lucas who had a sad and disappointed expression on his face.
"Hey. Yeah... I'm alright" Is all Paul could muster up.
"How's your head?" Lucas asks.
"A bit sore, thanks for asking." Paul responds.
There was an awkward silence between the two best friends as they were merely a few meters apart from each other
"Pau.."
"Luc.."
Both friends said in unison
"You first buddy." Paul said
"Paul, I'm sorry that you have to go through with this program. I mean I honestly would never ever think that one of my closest and dearest friend would be ever chosen to participate in this. I honestly don't know what to say man. I'm shocked and pissed. Things around school will be different without you man." Lucas confesses showing a slight irate tone in-between.
The thought about the program made Paul froze but had to speak up to ensure his friend he'll be fine despite this eventful morning.
"It's alright Lucas, I know. It will be different without your boy around school, but unfortunately as the guy said up on stage announcing my name, this looks like something that can't be undone." Paul explains as he starts to be fully aware of the situation he is currently in.
"DON'T SAY THAT MAN! This is bullshit!" Lucas expressing his anger, startling Paul a bit. "I mean how the fuck can this program that we never heard of come out of the blue and just force to send some random students oversees! Me and the boys were talking about it for the last hour about how screwed up this situation is. How the hell are you not mad!" Lucas says in a fit of rage towards the end.
"Of course I am mad Lucas." Paul stands up slowly "Beyond belief! I mean this is an unfair situation and with the lack of notice makes this even more unprofessional. As for me, moving overseas, leaving home. I would have never thought this in my life! I've been in Melbourne for my entire life and as for my family, I-I-I don't even know what's going to happen! For the first time in my life, I don't know man. But in the meantime, I'm going to get to the bottom of this." Paul hurriedly grabs his jacket that's folded nicely on the chair and starts putting it on quickly and is about to leave the first aid room.
"Where are you going man?" Lucas asks curiously.
"To see Mr Grammaitkopoulos. Aaaalllone! Please don't follow me." He stated to his friend saying the last word with a long and firm tone before leaving the first aid room.
Mr Grammaitkopoulos was in his office marking off students work. He was a bit nervous as later on today he'd have to do one of the hardest things he wishes he would never do as a teacher. Tell two parents that their son is going to move away from home.
*KNOCK KNOCK*
Looking up towards the timber door, he stood up and walked towards the door, he gulped before opening the doorknob to see the one student he'd expect to see this morning.
"Paul, you're awake. How's your head?" Mr Grammaitkopoulos asked the teenager.
"Hello sir, it's a bit sore but I'm fine thanks. May I come in and talk to you please."
"Certainly." Mr Grammaitkopoulos knowing exactly what Paul wants to talk about.
"Thank you." Paul enters the room as Mr Grammaitkopoulos offers Paul a seat opposite his desk, as both of them take a seat. There was silence in the room for a few seconds. If both of them had a knife and cut through the air a slice would be produced showing the amount of tension that has been going on since this morning.
"So it's true." Paul breaks the silence in the room.
"I'm afraid so Paul… Look... Paul I w-" Mr Grammaitkopoulos didn't go any further as the person opposite him started talking over him.
"Sorry to interrupt you sir, I'm not here for any sympathy about this. I just want to know why. All of a sudden. Out of the blue. This program has come to our attention for the first time. Myself and many other students at school and around Australia, as what was mentioned by what Mr. Lonnie said earlier today. Why is this happening?" Paul interrupts his teacher and questions.
"Well at least you're memory isn't fuzzy." Regarding Paul remembering the guy's name from the stage earlier this morning. "As to answer your question, I don't know Paul, the government has been pushing myself and other staff from other schools to submit a list for all registered students attending school and randomly pick 100 students around Australia. Unfortunately, you were chosen to participate in this program and as seen from your earlier reaction, you didn't take the news kindly. I understand it's going to be a massive change in your life. But later on today your parents will come into my office, with Mr Bryan and Mr Lonnie to be present to discuss further information and resources set to be provided for you and your family."
Paul starts to rub his neck a bit, showing some irritation to this scenario
"I'm guessing I don't have a choice in this. Do I?"
"Afraid not." Mr Grammaitkopoulos answered.
"How come this has been announced all of a sudden?" Paul enquires
"Well the government of education issued a mandatory program and this was approved by the prime minster a few weeks ago. But within the last 72 Hours they've been pushing schools around the country for full lists and began to choose students since Saturday morning and completed the list before the deadline on Sunday at 6pm, which all schools in the morning would announce if anyone got selected for this program. But all I know is you can't get passed this. It has to be done. I'm sorry.
Paul softly sighs in defeat upon hearing this "What time is the meeting?"
"1 pm."
Paul quickly glances at his watch '10:07 AM' meaning it was Recess for the whole college, the school bell going off waking the young teenager just a few minutes ago at 10 o'clock.
"Alright then, I'll go get some recess and go prepare for class sir. I've got a lot to discuss during that meeting."
"Actually Paul, you don't have to attend class." Paul was about to get up but slightly froze when hearing this. "As of now and I'm sorry for this, I'm afraid you're no longer a student of St Augistine's College. For the time being I mean. "
Paul slumps in his seat and places his closed fist underneath his chin.
"So. Just like that. huh" Paul clearly disappointed to hear he won't be a part of St Augistine's College for….for….
That's the thing. He had no clue in regards to; Where he was going? How long he was going for? And how this would affect his families lives? He was thinking, could anything good come out of this situation? He could ask a million questions and he wouldn't get any answers until later on.
"Yeah. I know you're having a bit of a difficult time processing this, I'll let you think in peace. I'll be in the staff room if you need me at all. You're welcome to stay in this room for as long as you need to." Mr Grammaitkopoulos says to Paul as he is frozen in the same state he was when Mr Grammaitkopoulos announced that Paul is no longer a student at the school anymore. Mr Grammaitkopoulos proceeds to stand up and walk towards the office door and before closing it he turns around to him.
"Would you like any water Paul?"
"That would be nice thanks." He says still not moved from his seated form.
Mr Grammaitkopoulos then closes the door leaving Paul inside his office to think about his current predicament. As soon as the door closes, Paul releases a long disappointed sigh and places his head on the table softly as he frustratingly hits the table with his right hand quite loudly once, then repeatedly again with the same hand for a few seconds, before stopping and putting both of his arms on the table with his head on top of them as he starts sobbing quietly.
Later on that same day, the time had come for the meeting to commence. A small meeting room within the schools front office, which consisted of Mr Bryan, Mr Grammaitkopoulos, Mr Lonnie, Paul and his two parents Madlyn and Angelino were all present within the room. Paul's parents were informed by their son about the program and both were quite surprised and shocked to hear about this. Despite them wanting to ask a million questions they decided to take an easy and calm approach towards this.
"Thank you all for coming here today on short notice." Mr Grammaitkopoulos began.
"No problem, we came as soon as we received your call." Angelino answers on behalf the two parents.
"Now, as I'm aware, we all know why this meeting is being held. Your son Paul has been selected to participate in this special foreign exchange program in the US. Mr Lonnie has all the details regarding his program and the resources that will be provided for your son and family." Mr Grammaitkopoulos explains as he finishes, it was Mr Lonnie's cue to speak.
"Alrighty. Just to confirm all the relevant information in regards to Mr. Kanellopoulos. Student name is Paul Kanellopoulos, born on the 29th February 2006. Rare birthdate if I may add, currently enrolled or formerly as of a few hours ago, in Year 8." Mr Lonnie explained.
"That's all correct thus far" Mr Grammaitkopoulos added.
"You've been assigned to attend Middleton High School in the State of Colorado, United States of America. You'll be starting in Freshman year, which is equivalent to Year 9 in Australia. So basically, you'll be skipping a year level. Or going 6 months ahead in this case. The school year begins on the 3rd August 2020 Monday morning. You'll be assigned temporarily accommodation paid by the Australian Government and receive fortnightly checks to assist yourself for the next two years, with also sending a stimulus package to your family once a month. However, 'IF' your family chooses to move to America alongside with you, The package will be given each week to support your entire family's needs. The options are open." Mr Lonnie finishes explaining.
"Well that's not going to happen with the business we're running currently" Angelino responds
"So that's a no with the second option. Well looks like its the first option." Mr Lonnie said
"Actually I got a better idea, I prefer we don't take any option, I prefer my son to stay here and continue to be enrolled with St Augistine's." Angelino expressing his stubbornness towards this situation
"Well I'm afraid that's not an option" Mr Lonnie responds back firmly
"Look Mr. Kanellopoulos , we've done everything we can, there is no other way around it." Mr. Bryan
"No you listen here." Angelino said in a bit of a hostile voice. He was usually a cool-head in a lot of situations but to protect his son that he loved very much, he become a bit angry in this scenario. "Tell me how the fuck, my son! Is going to be shipped off, to a country that allows shootings within school districts and a thousand kilometres away from us. You can't do this to our son!" He exclaimed.
"Watch it Mr. Kanellopoulos, I'd be very careful if I was you." Mr Bryan said back warning the parent.
For the next 5 minutes Paul continued to stayed silent listening to his Teacher, parents, principal and Mr Lonnie speak. His parents, mainly his dad was becoming a bit agitated and slightly overboard at this, implying he will be taking this matter to court. Paul finding this a bit futile as being pointless and a waste of money. Plus a few explicit words were being spilt within the air. His mum was quite shocked but actually for this program, but was still trying her best to avoid this outcome and let her son stay within the country. Mr Lonnie was continuously implying no way to avoid this. After getting no where with this meeting, Mr. Bryan stops everyone from talking and asks Mr Lonnie to cut to the main proposition regarding the program.
"Look Paul, the government is offering you a really great position, a delightful new home in a lovely little town called 'Middleton' in the state of Colorado. I know its quite a distance away from any land of water, but I heard it's quite a great place to live in. Plus all flights paid for, house free of charge for the next two years, also not to mention the resources being provided for you and your family. A check of $1000 US dollars a fortnight is quite generous in your case. That's 650 dollars a week in Australian Dollar Currency for two whole years! Plus you won't have to pay for school fees for when you return to St Augistine's College, that of course excludes the ones due up until now, those still need to be paid off. And look son, I know its a lot to take in, but your principal and teachers have had a discussion with me and they said you're way overqualified for the program. I mean you have excellent grades, straight 'A' student, participating in multiple sporting activities whether its supervising or playing, this could be a new challenge for you. Stepping into a new environment, making new friends, this could be life changing experience for you." Mr Lonnie explained to the teen.
"Is that what you're implying? That I need a more harder challenge in life? With all due respect sir, you can't force minors to go into this program, that allows them to be away from their families" Paul said in all seriousness
"Well some families are going with their children alongside the program."
"Well my parents are different. They can't just drop everything. Also I'd like to know, who in the righteous mind would approve such a program" Paul asks clearly indignantly by this.
"I already told you everything I know Mr. Kanellopoulos. The Department of DESE Minister of Education Mr. Daniel Holt has created this program and the prime minister of Australia has signed it off." Mr. Lonnie explains.
"Well this Mr. Holt sounds like his doing a top job. forcing children to move from their homes." Paul said sarcastically.
"Well you're the youngest candidate to go by yourself at this moment. A 16 year old from Adelaide is going to United Kingdom by himself and will most likely graduate overseas if he passes the last two year levels."
"Well Whoop-Dee-Doo" Paul says clasping his hands
Mr Lonnie and Mr Bryan were not happy at this teenagers attitude and one of them was going to say something but Mr Grammaitkopoulos intervenes first.
"Look. Paul I understand how you're feeling. As a teacher seeing one of my students leave this school by a program is really hard. If it were Year 12 it would be different scenario, as 18 year olds you guys, as individuals have to focus on a career path and if you wish to continue tertiary education to achieve that pathway for a job. But for a young man as yourself Paul, this op- And I'm saying this from the bottom of my heart Paul. Honestly this is a great opportunity for you. We've tested your knowledge within the Australian Education System, but testing your knowledge within the America Education System could be a big challenge for you. And when the raffle picked your name and when we saw who it was in this college, we all thought he was the perfect candidate. A mature straight-A student. Also we hoped that no one would be selected for this program within our college, but as there's a saying. Life is unpredictable and you never know what is coming next. I know what I'm saying isn't helpful for you, to stay, but giving you the positives for this program could change your mind. So... What do you say?" Mr Grammaitkopoulos explains, being genuine and honest to one of his favourable students.
Paul stands up from his chair with a small sigh, that no one could hear but himself, he then proceeds to walk towards the window slowly, with both of his arms behind his back. Upon reaching the window, he looks outside towards the front entrance of the school, which filled with trees, grass and the nearby parking lot. For the last 10 minutes or so, his heard how his parents feel towards this program, how his teacher and principal discuss about the positives and Mr. Lonnie discuss further details and additional enquires. He has heard enough for one day and since there is nothing else he can do from his end, despite think of ways to avoid this. At this situation that appears right now... There's no way around it. Paul makes up his final verdict.
"I'll do it." Paul said as he continued to stare outside the window not removing his arms from behind his back.
Both of his parents gasped at his statement. "Paul, you aren't really considering moving to America by yourself!" His mother stated. "Yeah, look Paul... if we take this case up, we have a chance of winning this and they can choose someone else. A 14-year-old stuck in the middle of America. It's no such place for a young teenager to be without any parental guidance." His father added.
"You make a good point dad, but if we take this up, think of all the costs in legal fees for going against this. And it's not going to be guaranteed win, plus it might take some time getting a outcome. It's a loop system. In fact, it will just burn a hole in your pockets. And in the end. Lawyers win. It's better to go and hopefully I make some good friends along the way that can help me throughout my journey. Besides, it will only be for 2 years. It will be hard in the beginning, but as time goes on, it will be much more easier." Despite declaring his decision to accept this program heaps of thoughts were flying around in his mind at 100 Kilometres/Miles per hour, thinking about all the various activities, people and commitments he would have to sacrifice. "And don't hesitate dad, please." Paul says as his dad was about to say something but closed his mouth after that sentence. Thinking back to what he'll miss out over the next few years.
No Family
No Acquaintances or relatives
No close friends
No Footba…
WAIT
OH NO
NO FOOTBALL!
One of the things I enjoy when the weekend arrives.
As he thinks about this, a few trickles of tears slowly comes from his eyes. Showing his emotional state about leaving behind his life in Melbourne to move to Middleton, Colorado in the USA.
"You going to be alright Paul?" Mr Grammaitkopoulos says to Paul as he continues to stare down at the floor.
Paul's head slowly raises as he then looks to the wall and he starts sniffling his nose. After a few seconds, he starts to form a small grin on his face, still with a few tears in his eyes coming down.
"Yeah... I will be fine."
"So after that day, I started to prepare for my trip to the US. My passport, the house I will be staying in, the school I'll be attending, my schedules & classes, the savings that I'll be taking with me and of course. All my required clothing. What the best part of my new school in America is that it doesn't have school uniform requirement, it's a casual clothing school, so I guess that's a good thing that I can wear different clothes every day. But as I prepare for my trip, I also prepare my goodbyes to all my friends and relatives. For all my teachers at St Augistine's, I farewell all of them. A few of my favourite teachers I had a bit of a private goodbye to them. One I'm going to miss is my sports teacher Mr Moyes, who I've only known for a short time, but I really enjoyed helping him with the after school soccer program. He is a very young teacher and we make a good team for sports. I'm considered like a junior coach or assistant alongside him, he felt sorry for me, but I didn't want any pity from him or anyone else, it wasn't my choice to go, but a luck of the draw chance for me to actually go through this program. One thing in life I don't want is people feeling sorry for me, lots of things happen in life to various people. We can choose to fix it, or we can't do anything about it. It's out of my hands. Destiny has a pathway for everyone. To all my friends Lucas, Jason, Manny and many other friends within the college seeing them all for the last time for a while was going to be very hard. The last day of attending school, where almost all the students were preparing to go home stopped what they were doing and watching me walk out of the college, felt like I was getting a guard of honour or the walk of shame depending on how you see it. Having a farewell party with all my close relatives and my closest friends. Watching the football for the last time the weekend before leaving Australia. Getting my last haircut from my barber and promising him I wouldn't let anyone touch or cut my hair while in America. He called that extremely loyal, despite being a very regular customer at the barber. Also trying something new, growing out my hair. Hopefully, I will make it neat and tidy while it grows out over time. But one of the hardest things in doing this is…..…"
A bright white screen with words as long as he could see, appeared in front of him as he was left pondering what to say next on his story.
Since the day it was announced that he'd be invited to join the Foreign Exchange Student program in America, he has kept record of everything that has happened since into a word document on his laptop to reflect his story about how it all happened and giving it a read when its all over to reflect on it. He has written a lot in the last 3 to 4 weeks. As he sitting down at the dinning table staring at his laptop, he glances at the time on the bottom of the screen.
'6:10 PM'
"Less than 2 hours to go." He thought to himself.
Paul didn't seem that nervous, it had been quite a while since he last boarded an international flight. He didn't mind the short flights From Melbourne to Sydney or Melbourne to Gold Coast. They were usually around 1 to 2 hour flights. He didn't enjoy turbulence though, despite the fact that flying is the safest transportation in the world. As for entering this program, he thought he would make a calm approach and try his best to make a great impression but not for just himself, by for his school and being an Greek-Australian.
Continuing to think about what would be the hardest thing by going through with this program, is left floating within his mind. There are heaps of things that would be hard to let go. But thinking the most important one would be his family. Not able to see his parents for a few years and his sisters as well. Thinking about his family, he continues to type on his laptop.
"missing my dear family. Imagine going to a new country, with no family, knowing no one, attending a new school, trying to adapt to the life and culture, making new friends and avoiding all the possible dangers. I'm not a man to judge a book by its cover, but hearing about all these things about America has made myself more apprehensive and inquisitive to explore this new country that I've never been to, but have heard heaps of positives and negatives regarding America. Heck, I might even beat my family by going to Disneyland before them. But in all seriousness. I will miss them so much. Even my mum's homemade cooking."
Paul stops typing as he reads through the final paragraph of his story. Whilst reading, he hears footsteps moving towards him.
"Paul, its time head off to the airport. You've got everything packed and ready?" His mother says to him. He continues to read the last few lines and then proceeds to save his work, followed by closing his laptop and nods to his mum. "Yeah mum, just finishing off writing something."
His mum pulls out a chair right next to where he is sitting and says to him "You sure you want to go through with this?"
"Positive mum. It's something that I can't avoid."
"Usually most people would chuck a fit over this but you're taking this very well" She smiles as she changes her tone to a more exhilarated mood "My little boy is becoming a man." She says as she is pinching his cheek and giving him a big hug.
"Muuuum, please stop pinching my check." Paul pleads.
"Sorry Paul, it's just that…. It's going to be hard to see my only son moving away to America." She expresses in a bit of a sad tone
"Yeah I know but what can you do. Not much I suppose." Paul says in a defeated tone.
"You know, this could be something good." Paul locked his eyes directly at his mum, showing his full attention towards her "Meeting some new friends, a different perspective of education, learning another language."
"One I'm already struggling with sporadically" Paul added on
His mum continued with her speech "New places to visit, I mean America is a massive place, but it's a big and dangerous world out there. Especially if you haven't been before. So I hope you be careful and try to make some friends that can help you with what to do and what not to do. I know you're very good at doing that since you were a small boy. Also in all seriousness. Please for my sake and your father's. Please be safe Paul."
Paul thinks about this for a few seconds, thinking about the new environment he will be jumping into within less than 24 hours. "Don't worry mum, I'll be just fine."
"I know you'll be." His mum proceeds to kiss his forehead and immediately after she stands up from her seated position. "You're my big baby boy. Let me finish putting my makeup on and we'll go."
"Okay mum."
Paul then starts to pack up his laptop and charger into his backpack which is filled with many other technological gadgets inside, while walking towards his neatly packed and considerably large suitcase, to carry it to the boot of his mum's car. He then opens the door of the car to find the remote to the garage door to open it up. He waits patiently for the door to full open up before walking outside onto the so-so steep driveway and stare at his house one last time. It felt weird for Paul to not see his house for an extended period. The longest time being when he went to Greece when he was younger for around 2 months, then the trips to Sydney or Gold Coast, but they were no longer than 3 weeks being away from home. His mum and sisters come outside of the house and both were approaching the car ready to leave. Paul knew that they were ready to go. So he then entered back into the garage and jumped into the car and off they went.
Well, it was almost '8 pm' most people would be having their dinner by now or almost finishing at this time. Unless of course the first letter of your name began with a P, your surname ended with an S and of course if your name is Paul Kanellopoulos, dinner was the last thing on his mind at the moment. Currently Paul is at the Melbourne International Airport with his family and a few of his closest friends that wanted to wish him one final farewell. While driving to the airport Paul was listening to his music and thinking about possibly what the future holds for him. Of course there was lots of negatives going to America and there was some positives that came come through this. One thing he was excited about was that he was able to play his favourite mobile game 'Pokémon Go' in a different country, which he has never done before. He owns a few new gadgets that made the game even easier to play than before, without even looking at his smartphone. God technology is amazing.
The one thing Paul found a bit unnecessary about this trip was the stopover to London International Airport to Denver International Airport. He thought that he'd be going to Sydney which then takes a flight all the way to Dallas in Texas then another trip to Denver. He didn't mind this stopover but who was to say he was complaining. After all, the flights and accommodation was all paid for by the Australian Government. Plus a small request made by Paul in regards to the London stopover, to stay overnight and explore the city.
When he arrived at the airport he greeted his friends and his father who came from his office within the city centre to see him flight out of Australia. All of them went past security and Paul conversed with all his friends and his family. Especially his father, as he would miss him the most. He really didn't want his son to go and leave Australia. But Paul assured him everything will be fine. He asked his father if he could do a few things for him to assist him along the way to America. He agreed on every single one, especially one he hesitated but he complied. With everyone sitting in the waiting area awaiting for the last boarding call for the flight. In just a few moments the intercom will call out the last boarding call for Paul's flight.
"Good evening passengers, this is the final boarding call for passengers for Qantas Flight 7039 to London. The final checks are being completed and the the captain will order for the doors of the aircraft to close in approximately five minutes time. I repeat. This is the final boarding call for Qantas Flight 7039 to London. Thank you."
'Well, this is it." Paul thought to himself as he stood up at this intercom announcement.
His family and friends stood up too. Paul starts to speak to everyone within his vicinity "Well, this is it guys. I'd like to thank you all for coming down here tonight and wishing me farewell." Lucas spoke up first "No problem buddy. You'd done the same thing if it was one of us."
Paul first approached to Manny and spoke to him "Manny, take care bro, hopefully we can get some game time from overseas."
"For sure bro, I'm really going to miss you and all your jokes man. You're a funny guy. Things won't be the same around school."
"Thanks Manny, I appreciate that, we'll keep in touch." Both friends gave each other a fist bump.
Paul moves onto Jason and speaks to him next "Jason, see you later man, I'm going to miss you."
"I'm going to miss you too buddy, take care. I will try and message and talk to you everyday." Both friends briefly hugged each other, before Paul broke the short hug and moved onto his last friend in Lucas.
"So" Paul began
"So… this is really happening?" Lucas replied
"Afraid so.." Paul trying his best to keep his composure
"I'll miss you buddy. I'll be back." Paul chuckles at his Terminator impression "I always wanted to say that."
"Same old Paul. I'm going to fucking miss you man" Lucas says as he hugs his best friend, having some tears come from his eyes.
"Me too man" Paul responds back and gives him a fist bump.
Paul walks over to his mum and sisters and says goodbye to both of them before giving them a hug.
"I'll miss you three. Now you don't have to worry about me breaking your nuts for a while." Paul jokes.
"Goodbye Big bro, I'll miss you" Gwyneth says to her brother
"Take care Paul." Gwen says.
"I love you son, call me as soon as you land." Madlyn says to Paul
"Love you too guys and I'll call you when I get to London" Paul says hugging all three before walking over to the last person.
"Dad, I'm going to miss you so much" Paul says trying his best not to tear up.
Paul and his dad are quite close, both of them treat each other more like brothers than father and son. He always tried his best his father to see his son and when they get the chance to see each other, they spend it wisely. His father is a really busy man, but as he always says, 'He's got a lot of mouths to feed, literally'.
"Me too Son." Angelino said also trying his best not to tear up too. "It's going to be so different around here in Melbourne without you."
"I know" Paul says "Did you finish off all those favours I asked for when I get to the US?"
"One last thing to go and its done." Angelino says.
"Thanks Dad, I appreciate it."
"Also son, I know going to America by yourself will be hard, let me tell you something quickly. Did you know when I was your age, I wanted to become dentist, but I was got into civil engineering instead. Anyway it's a big opportunity to do something in America, you have a chance to do something over there for a few years. You've got the knowledge and maturity to achieve a lot Paul. You've got greatness in your blood. Never doubt yourself, also give 100% effort and never, never give up son. I know you've decided that once you finish school you want to work with me in the construction industry. I'm proud you're following in my footsteps and I'm glad to take you under my wing when you become 18. Also son, if you're ever in trouble or got a problem, let me know and I'll help you. I'd even stop work and go on the first plane to Colorado." Angelino finished his short speech for his son, getting a smile as a response.
"Good evening passengers, this is now the final boarding call for passengers for Qantas Flight 7039 to London. The final checks are being completed and the the captain will order for the doors of the aircraft to close in approximately one minute. I repeat. This is the final boarding call for Qantas Flight 7039 to London. Thank you for visiting Melbourne Airport."
"Go now son, before they take off without you." Paul was about to hug his dad "And remember. Don't forget what I said son" Angelino says before winking at his son, then proceeds to hug him. He kisses him on the forehead and Paul walks toward the gate. He turns around one last time as he waves to his family and friends. They all wave back to him before all said goodbye and farewell the young teenager. Paul walks to a flight stewardess and presents his boarding pass.
"Good evening sir" The stewardess smiles and scans the pass. "Well sir, today is your lucky day. You've been upgraded to First Class for tonight's flight. Lucky you."
Paul smiles at this "Thank you."
Paul enters the plane and take his seat near the front of the plane. He enjoys the comfortable interior of his plane set.
"Well that's a bright start to the trip. Upgraded to first class. Nice!" Paul thinks excitedly.
"Good evening sir, before we take off, would you like a drink?" A stewardess asks the teen.
"Yes, can I please get a lemon lime bitters please?" Paul asks politely.
"Sorry sir, we don't make that drink." The stewardess apologies
"Oh, I guess an Iced Tea will do"
"Haven't got that either."
"Raspberry Lemonade?"
The stewardess shakes her head.
"Surely you have flavoured spring water?" Paul asking hopefully that they have this particular drink.
The stewardess laughs and says "My sir, you've stumped me with all these drink requests. Sorry about that. Would you prefer an alcoholic drink?"
"In about 4 years time." Paul jokes around
"Oh! Sorry, you seem so mature." The stewardess says a bit embarrassed.
"Thank you. I get that quite a lot. I don't want to trouble. I'll just get a Pepsi please."
"Umm."
Paul looks at the stewardess with a blank expression "I'll just get a Coke. There we go. Simple request" Paul says smiling.
"That I know we have (Chuckles) I'll be right back with your drink." The stewardess says, as Paul thanks her.
"Like I said, good start to the trip!" Paul thinks.
