Your body's looking good tonight
I'm thinking we should cross the line
Let's ruin the friendship, let's ruin the friendship
- Demi Lovato
Michonne's eyes glazed over Rick's profile. She didn't want to make it too obvious, but she really couldn't seem to tear her eyes away from him. She turned her attention back to the cold bottle of beer resting on the bar they were sitting at. It was Rick's turn to look her over, eyes dancing over her body, before taking a sip of his own beer. They've been doing this little dance all night long. Even when separated in the crowd, having conversation with their friends, their eyes would always find one another to only look away when their gaze would meet.
They couldn't really say when their mutual attraction began, they couldn't even say that they were oblivious to each other's desire for one another. But they were very aware of the fact that they were attracted to each other like magnets, always finding a way no matter what to be close to each other. It started innocently enough, just being in each other's vicinity. Then the light touches started to the lingering gazes and to the kiss they almost shared at the last hang out with friends.
The thought of that kiss, Rick chanced a glance to her lips mindlessly rubbing the mouth of his bottle on his lips before taking another swig of his beer. Michonne could feel the side of her face burning from his intent stare. She couldn't bring herself to stare back, she didn't even know why she was so nervous. If she was honest, she was anxious of what would happen if she did turn her head to look at him. She knew she wanted him and she was positive he wanted her just as bad. But she was worried about what would happen if they crossed that line. In the corner of her eye, she could see Rick putting his beer bottle on the bar and moving his body on the stool to face her. He glided his left hand to her right forearm, resting it there, waiting for her to give him her attention.
Michonne took a subtle breath before turning in stool to face him, her right hand falling to her thigh, his hand following and settling on her knee giving it a soft squeeze. Michonne's eyes travelled from his lips to his nose before finally reaching his eyes. They silently held each other's gaze, their eyes would, from time to time, descend to each other's lips before retreating back to their original point.
Rick didn't care anymore about the reasons why they shouldn't cross the line of friendship, he didn't care anymore about the fears that kept him from acting out on his attraction for Michonne. He couldn't spend another night replaying their interaction and regretting not taking a chance. He leaned forward, eyes dropping to her lips but stopped inches from her face. Pulling his gaze to hers, giving her a chance to back out. Michonne only hesitated for a moment before slowly shutting her eyes and closing the small distance between their lips.
The moment their lips met, they wondered why they spent so long denying each other.
