Major: RedxGreen – yaoi

Not my normal gender pairing but seriously has become my favorite couple ever since I rediscovered Pokémon due to procrastination.

Disclaimer: I do not own Pokémon or any of its characters.

Déjà Vu

Snow fell steadily, creating a curtain of white across the mountain face. Rocks, angrily cut in jagged patterns, were softly veiled by the frosted blanket. Nothing could be seen past nature's silent display, leaving the rest of the surroundings to the imagination. The only color in the monochromatic scene was that of an orange glow spilling out from a tiny cave.

The fire crackled violently as the boy idly poked at the embers. Red looked over at the entrance of the cave, peering at the edge of the cliff as he had been for the past few hours. There was nothing there, but he still glared at the frozen rocks. Even when he felt a tug on his shirt, he didn't want to look away.

Feeling another pull on his sleeve, Red gave his Pikachu a passing glance before turning back to the cliff.

'He should have been here by now.'

It could have just been the heavy snow slowing down what he expected was already a rough climb. Blizzards were common on this mountain, especially this time of year. Most people couldn't even handle the climb in the "warm" months, let alone during a winter storm.

The Pokémon Champion smirked. 'But he's not like most people…'

Standing up, the boy brushed the dust off his jeans. Red took one final glance over to the outside before walking further into the cave with Pika in tow.

Deep in the large space, he found his Snorlax already comfortably situated by the far wall. The young trainer sighed as he dropped down to sit against the sleeping Pokémon.

"Ah, what did I expect?" Red looked up at the cave ceiling, staring at the stone in annoyance. "It's not like he ever said he was definitely coming anyway."

There was no reason to get worked up. The other trainer probably had to prioritize some work or whatever he did at the Viridian gym.

Taking off his hat, the boy ran his hand over his face with another sigh.

"Guess he could have had more important things to do."

He would like to believe that it was something trivial…that the other boy just got caught up in another gym battle and decided not to make the trip today. It was much easier to make conclusions that made the reason more practical rather than think too hard about it.

Letting his hand fall by his side, Red felt a familiar soft texture touch his fingers. Turning his head, he saw the blanket that was crumpled in a heap from the previous night. He silently stared at it for a minute before he picked it up.

'…I should have never left things like that last time.'

The boy wrapped himself in the green blanket as his Pikachu nestled beside him. Staring off into the fire, the flames danced for crimson eyes.

"C'mon Green...you better not leave me hanging."

Crystal looked over the lab table watching Bonee and Mega playing in an open area on the floor. It was good to see them relaxed and enjoying their free time during one of Crys's rare breaks from catching Pokémon for the professor. She was currently back at Professor Oak's lab and had volunteered to help him research the Pokémon that she had captured in her latest journey. Despite wanting to get back out in the field, she knew better than to push herself and her Pokémon too much.

"Besides, there's plenty to do here." She turned back to her work and grabbed the next pokeball from a tray that she was studying. "Now where was I?"

Pressing the release, the container opened to let a slippery looking creature appear on her desk. It was a Buizel that she had captured somewhere in the Sinnoh region a while ago.

"Hmm...I remember you. You were quite the handful to capture with those nice moves in the wa...Agh!"

Before she could recall the rest of story, Buizel had lunged at the girl. Taken off guard, Crys tried to catch the Pokemon in mid-air, but the weight still pushed her off balance.

"Crys!" Professor Oak came running from another part of the lab as soon as he heard her cry out. "What happened?"

Searching across all the tables, he couldn't immediately figure out Crys' whereabouts, but the sounds of a struggle distressed the man. He hoped the girl didn't run into trouble with a Pokemon.

"Crys!" he called out again, "Are you okay?"

"I'm over here, Professor."

Oak followed her voice to one of the tables in the back corner of the lab. When he got to where she was laying on the ground his worry quickly diminished. Although sprawled on the groung, the girl didn't look at all hurt.

"Sorry for not answering sooner," she laughed, trying to push the water Pokémon off of her, "I forgot exactly how friendly these little guys are."

It took everything she had to keep Buizel at bay, the Pokemon straining to lick her face in excitement.

The professor sighed in relief rubbing the back of his neck, "Ah thank goodness, I was worried that you got mixed up with some of the not so cooperative Pokémon."

Crys's Pokémon had already shown up to their trainer's side when they saw her jumped on by another Pokémon. They growled at the unfamiliar Pokémon, but the newcomer didn't catch on to the obvious resentment.

Buizel looked up at two angered Pokémon. Without a second thought, the little otter eagerly leaped towards them. It's unexpected action startled Bonee and Mega. Her Pokemon quickly turned to retreat, racing across the lab to avoid the hyper water Pokémon that chased after them.

"Hey! No running in the lab!" yelled the professor chasing the three Pokémon, "Crys! Calm down your Pokémon before they destroy something!"

Watching Buizel dive under a table, she couldn't help laughing when the man stumbled to make a tight turn to keep up. They weaved around the other tables, running circles around her. The girl wished the other Pokédex holders were around to see this. She was sure that Yellow would be laughing right alongside her, and Gold…he'd probably just add to the chaos for kicks.

Letting her laughter die down, the girl's mind lingered on the thoughts of the other trainers. It had been a couple of months since she saw most of them. Although it wasn't through the best experience, she was glad her path crossed with the other Pokédex holders. They were all very different, but she hadn't felt so comfortable with other kids her age until meeting them.

She wanted to see everyone and just have fun together, but there was never a good time that her new friends could agree to meet up again. Apparently there was just not a good enough reason to get all the Pokedex holders to take a breather from their respective journeys.

Crys frowned at the thought. "Honestly, it's like only some big disaster can get those guys' attention."

Scratch scratch

"Crys restrain your Pokémon, please!"

scratch scratch scratch…

Bonee knocked down a stool that Buizel quickly dodged, leaving the unsuspecting professor to trip and fall hard on the floor. The loud thump made all three Pokémon stop in their tracks.

"Huh?" Crystal immediately woke up from her daydream and looked over to where the commotion had stopped. "Ah, oh no!"

The girl quickly ran back over the her desk to retrieve the empty Pokeball. Pulling out two more off her belt, she activated the recall for each one.

"Everyone return to your pokeballs!"

A red beam of light captured each guilty looking Pokémon as the disappeared from the room.

"Professor, are you okay?" asked Crys returning to his side.

Oak narrowed his eyes at the young trainer. It must have been obvious from his ungraceful fall, but he brushed off the embarrassment.

"Could be better, but I'll live," answered the man.

Scratch scratch…scratch

The girl smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry I didn't do anything earlier," said Crys, "I got distracted."

Scratch scratch…scratch

Crys looked up at the small sound.

"Yes, I do wish you did that earlier," the Professor huffed, "I can get over a little fall, but now the lab is a mess and…"

"Wait! Shhh…" said the girl, cutting off the older man. "Do you hear that noise?"

"A noise?" The professor cocked his head trying to hear what the girl was talking about.

scratch…scratch scratch

The sound was far away and muted. It didn't sound clear enough to be coming from inside the room.

"Eev..."

The two of them looked towards the entrance when they heard the weak cry. Looking back at each other, Crystal quickly got up and ran across the room to the door. Once she opened the door, she looked down and gasped at the sight.

A small Eevee limped through the door but collapsed within a few steps into the room. It looked like it had been through a fierce battle from the several welts that decorated its body. The Pokémon was barely recognizable in its battered state, the brown fur tainted by a dried copper red.

"Oh my…!" screamed Crystal, falling to her knees beside the fainted Pokémon.

Crys' stomach dropped as she looked over the wounds littering the Pokémon's body. There was so much blood…the little Eevee did the right thing to come to the lab for help. She could only hope it wasn't too late for the professor to do something.

"Professor, I need you over here!"

The old man jolted from his place on the floor and also knelt by the hurt Pokémon.

Watching the man carefully pick the Eevee up from the floor, Crys noticed a deep cut under the Pokémon's eye that made her feel particularly sick. The girl looked to the professor for direction to help treat the Pokémon, but the old man stayed frustratingly quiet. The injuries were severe, but they seemed to be the least of the professor's worries as he examined the Pokémon.

"What is it professor?" she asked, "What happened to it?"

"I have no idea what happened to this Pokémon, but this is no ordinary wild Eevee," he said, his voice trailing off.

"How do you know?" Crys demanded, "Do you recognize this Eevee from the area of something?"

The man did not answer, shaking his head as he gently continued to turn the Pokémon in his hands.

Crys was put off by the professor's silence, but there were more urgent matters to worry about. Placing her hand on the old man's shoulder, she motioned him to look at her.

"Professor, we need to do something to treat this Eevee," she said in a hushed tone.

The man tensed up to her words. Looking over at her, the man stared blankly at her for a moment before suddenly standing up - his expression uncharacteristically serious.

"Yes, you're right," he declared, "We need to tend to this Pokémon right away."

The young trainer didn't have time to question the man's behavior as the professor quickly moved past her into the lab. Picking herself off the ground, Crystal dashed after him.

By the time she caught up to him, the man had already cleared one of the tables to make room for the injured Pokémon. Cry's watched the man work. Even if she wanted to help, She could tell it was best to stay out of the way.

Crys winced when she heard the Eevee whimper as the Professor sprayed a potion on the wounds. Glancing over at the man, the young trainer noticed the stern look on his face again. The Pokémon professor's demeanor had changed drastically since the Eevee had shown up. Of course the injured Pokémon was nothing to take lightly, but there seemed to be something off.

"Professor...you didn't answer my question from earlier," she started, "do you know this Eevee?"

Oak didn't immediately answer the question as he continued to work on the small Pokémon. The air in the room seemed to thicken in the prolonged silence, but Crys didn't force a response. It was clear he was struggling to find the words.

After a moment, the man let out a heavy sigh before looking over at the girl beside him.

"Like I said, this isn't just any wild Eevee," he said, "this is Green's Eevee."

Several miles away from Mt. Silver, a dark form moved across the open fields. A cloaked figure rode atop his Rapidash at an almost frantic pace away from the mountain. The Pokemon's high speeds transported them swiftly though the grassy area, the swaying flames of its mane glowing in the shadow of the formation. It was a beautiful spectacle that would have caught any passerby's eye if they were closer to the beaten path.

This was not for show though.

The trainer had no intention to be seen or followed, taking a route that went through tall blades on grass. In front of him, he carried an unwieldy object held possessively to his chest.

A low growl came from the anonymous person as the man looked back at the mountain in the distance. Suddenly, the trainer pulled on the reins.

Lifting its front legs into the air, the horse fought against the force that broke its stride.

"Whoa, Rapidash! It's okay!"

A man's voice called out to the agitated the Pokemon.

"It's only for a minute."

Handling Rapidash's energy with one hand was not easy as the man strained to hold on. Tightening his grasp on the bundle, he continued to soothe the lively steed.

"That's it…there you go. Calm, Rapidash."

The man grunted as his Rapidash finally quelled to an anxious huff. Relaxing his hold, the man let out a heavy sigh.

Letting go of the reins, his gaze turned back at the mountain. His eyes wandered across the rocks for a moment, focusing on nothing in particular.

"That Pokémon…" he said to himself, " how could I let it go off on its own."

The stranger looked down at the bundle in his grasp as his frown deepened. Pulling at the cloth, the man's ire was shifted to what was revealed inside.

"All because you couldn't just come along quietly."

A young boy lay unconscious within the dark material. Rounds of rope could be seen around the smaller male's body, painfully constricted his battered form. Tears in his purple shirt and black jeans exposed unsightly scrapes that still oozed blood across the lacerated skin. Splotches of red soaked into the threads hinted to further injuries hidden beneath the fabric.

"Your Pokemon wasn't in any condition to go very far," he growled.

Using his freehand, he roughly turned the child's face towards him. "Where did you tell it to go?"

He knew he wasn't going to get an answer. The boy was out cold. A wound on the temple of his head had been hastily treated with a bandage wrapped around his head. Even with the crude treatment, the bleeding had not stopped. The dark crimson seeped through the gauze, staining strands of brown hair that rested before closed eyes.

The man cursed out loud as he let the brunette's head loll back onto his arm. Gritting his teeth, the man glanced up at the horizon. The snow covered peak in the distance stared blankly back at him. With the condition the Pokemon was in, it would be a miracle if it made it out of the region. If only he didn't let himself get distracted.

"Arrogant brat. You better be worth it."

Hiding away the boy again, he turned away from the mountain.

"Let's get out of here, Rapidash!"

With a swift nudge to the horse's side, the Pokémon reared up. As soon as its front legs hit the ground, Rapidash dashed across the land, leaving behind nothing but a dusty cloud in its wake.

Hopefully, it sounds familiar according to the manga. Despite its short length, reviews are appreciated.
