(A) Waxing Moon Within Pitch Black Nights

7/3/2022

Summary: Kurt transfers into Dalton having never met a single soul and he's not exactly happy about it. Blaine and Sebastian originally agree that he doesn't belong there and actively try to send him away.

AN: SO this one is different... :D I was rereading a lot of stuff I haven't posted and haven't really touched in over a year or so and I realized I wanted to use ideas and pieces of old ones but not rehash with a different character but change up the story all together. So we ended up with this short. I have a lot of shorts/one-shots that I want to write that aren't going to be 'collections' but maybe end up in the same bin just because it's easier I think to read a lot of one-shots when you can just hit 'next' rather than go back and find where you left off... But I may leave them as one-shots completely standing alone too.

There will be a slow slide in narrator POV between characters as the story continues. It may pick up in speed between characters as it goes though and I hope they seem like less predictable and are viewed as neat choices.

AN2: Naming things are hard. This was my third attempt at a title before I finally settled on it.

Chapter 1

The buzz around campus reminded those not actively participating in it of getting too close to a bee's nest.

In the courtyard, by the splashing water fountain nearly drowning out their voices, two boys argued while a third looked on with amusement. Jade green eyes looked annoyed "I thought you always knew the rumors first, knew when a new student would be joining us."

"Yeah and I thought you were the first to try and get in their pants, the second you sniffed new blood." The hazel eyed boy shot back across the bow.

Chocolate eyes tried to keep looking down at the book in his hands but he couldn't help the snort as the two teed off against each other. Green and hazel eyes swung in his direction but he continued to try and focus on the book and pretend it was something in there that had gotten to his funny bone rather than the two of them.

"David, you're reading History of Rock Formations. I can guarantee you that it's not remotely funny, no matter how you spin it. It's hardly legible in it's dry scientific prose." Sebastian's voice was as dry as the text and a desert three weeks without rain.

David snapped his book shut. "Well, yeah, I mean you two are hilarious." His tone was not much better, just bordering on sarcasm. "Insider knowledge usually finds both of you well before the situation occurs but this time when it affects the three of us the most? Nothing? Something is seriously up then and it's not your cock, Sebastian."

Sebastian gave a wry smile at the dig. "He's probably straight anyway."

"Good, then maybe he can introduce me to a girl I haven't met yet and he hasn't dated." David closed his textbook and looked at both of them. "Since that will be a window wide open for me to climb through."

Sebastian looked over at the put-out Blaine. "Oh all right, I'm sorry." He said to the curly haired Warbler. "If you didn't know, it had to be a pretty quick change. I was just surprised that the rest of the school knew first, considering he's going to be our roommate."

Pastries and buttering up the admin staff only got Blaine so far. If he wasn't there that day, he wouldn't have heard about it. It wasn't like they came to him with the gossip. "I was out sick." Blaine was still a little mulish, his nose was still congested and throat clogged. He didn't sound like his normal dapper self. "Which you knew. The staff like you too, for whatever reason, you could have found this out yourself."

Sebastian tossed him one of his patent charming smiles and David knew that was why most of the staff liked him. He always praised and complimented without doing so directly and over the top. He also asked them about their lives outside of work, remembering details others would forget. Blaine was just a bit too obvious but was still sweet and appeared genuine. They both were, they just had different ways of doing it.

"Need a hug Blainey-Bear?" Sebastian opened his arms and Blaine moved into his embrace as Sebastian closed his arms around him.

"Thank you." Blaine murmured against Sebastian's trim chest.

"Any time, Sport." Sebastian patted him on the back.

"Ugh, you just had to ruin it!" Blaine pulled away and moved a few feet from Sebastian but still glowered at him. "You know I hate that nickname."

"What? Only Coop is allowed to use it? I think it's such a good name for you." Sebastian replied a tad too innocently, widening his eyes in confusion over the hatred of the name. "I really like it."

"Are we going to stick around here trading witty remarks or actually go meet our fourth?" David asked breaking in. Amusement disappearing from his own voice as he watched the two of them go around again. They were actually really good friends, just had a tendency to argue, a lot.

David was glad that them sleeping together hadn't ruined that friendship at all. They were exactly the same as before it happened. If David hadn't known for a fact, having walked in on them and heard them on other occasions, he would be like most of the other Dalton students, unaware that it happened and still placing bets on whether or not it would and when. Neither gave specifics nor confirmed anything, ever. David didn't think it right to inform anyone else either and so hadn't participated in the wager.

Blaine had been brought into the world of sex and thanked Sebastian for his tutelage and Sebastian had gotten to introduce Blaine to it safely and further his own knowledge along to others and add to his count. David had asked him about it and Sebastian shrugged, he didn't mind educating virgins, the more they learned with him, the better they were with their next partner. Eventually maybe one of his partners had been taught by one of his pupils and could use those skills with him, it was a win-win.

David whirled on Sebastian. "You are not sleeping with another one of our roommates if he is gay. We don't know his story and your count isn't everything."

"Hey now, I only practice safety and explicit consent." Sebastian held up his hands. "I won't be making a move on his Highness without him wanting it first. And my count is a personal goal, I'm not about to put an end to it's tally any time soon." Sebastian grinned widely at David, just a hair too cheeky for his liking.

"Not unless I say it's ok." David warned darkly.

"His Highness?" Blaine asked, pausing at the opening between hedges to lead them out of the small maze that held a few little gathering areas like this toward it's center. Each area was a little different, they preferred the water fountain when they wanted to have discussions like this.

"Yeah, he's got to be someone pretty important for Dalton to throw out all of it's rules." Sebastian shrugged. "I'm thinking like royalty or extremely wealthy."

"Or maybe his parents just moved."

"We're a boarding school, David, one of many on the planet. If they want him to attend a boarding school, then he's probably attending one and could wait until the new semester to transfer in. Moving would make no difference since we're all pretty far from our parents' homes already." Sebastian held his gaze steady as he dropped that with a nearly bored tone.

David shrugged. "There's a million reasons he could transfer mid-semester."

"Yes but not a million reasons why Dalton would take him mid-semester." Blaine added, his thoughts more inline with Sebastian's than David's. His hazel eyes flickered over to Sebastian. "Shall we show him what we think about superiority complexes?"

"We're a school of wealthy elites. We all have superiority complexes." David pointed out, already feeling bad for their new roommate.

"Yes but then it is quickly ground into dust in the sake of uniformity, inclusivity and equality to benefit the brotherhood." Blaine countered with a grin.

"You make us sound like a cult or one of those brainwashing conformist schools." David didn't know why these two were going to make this new kid's life miserable. Transferring mid-semester was likely already making him pretty miserable.

Both Blaine and Sebastian shuddered at the thought. "We're not going to bully him or anything, we have zero-tolerance policy." Sebastian pointed out. He was weighing their options. "And we are all pretty much individuals behind these blazers."

"Can't you just... hold off judgment and wait to see what he's like before you two get together on some stupid plan that's just going to blow up in your face?" David begged. "You two getting together on anything never works out well."

"For our target." Sebastian said with a smile.

"For anyone." David stressed. "Wes is still annoyingly possessive of his gavel after you two painted it sparkly pink. It took him months to get the paint off of it and I think he sleeps and showers with it now. He never lets it out of his sight. He won't let anyone else use it. It was at one point like a conch shell and whoever was holding it was in charge of the meeting that day. Thad and I are both now silent partners in the council because he won't give it up for fear that it will be defecated in another way." Their actions had consequences far more reaching than just with the person they intended them to affect.

Blaine and Sebastian shared a look and then both broke out into chuckles. They still found it hilarious. "I still think the pink looked better than the mousey brown it was before." Blaine said with laughter in his voice.

"Maybe he wouldn't have minded so much if it was navy and red." Sebastian added, his tone far too similar to Blaine's.

"Although if he really does take it into the bathroom, that brown might be from something else." Blaine said almost as an aside as Sebastian caught up to him.

"It's probably how he got the paint off so quickly." Sebastian continued Blaine's line of thinking.

David just made a face. Not that he was criticizing why they would use something in that way, just that it was public property and a lot of other people had touched it prior to Wes' possessiveness. If it was a personal and purely personal item, it wouldn't be a problem. "It's a wonder he didn't call you two out on bullying."

"It wasn't bullying though, it's not his gavel as you just said. It's property of the school's and we were just trying to improve it."

"You two walk a pretty fine line." David was thankfully never on the other side of their pranks.

"But we never cross it!" Blaine announced, pleased with himself and Sebastian nodded.

"Yet." David was weary, those two could easily slip into more devious territory if they weren't careful. Both were just incredibly bored, there weren't enough activities at this school to keep them occupied and they both branched out into less than healthy choices.

So far they kept each other from going off the deep end. They both liked attending Dalton, so they hadn't crossed any lines but it could easily go the other way. They could spur each other to go further than acceptable. David would disassociate himself from them it it went that way. He'd never been part of their schemes.

They weren't thinking through their plans very well today though, they had to live with this guy. If he stayed at Dalton but transferred rooms, they'd be stuck with one of the other Dalton boys moving into their room instead. Blaine and Sebastian had alienated pretty much everyone, which is why they had an open bed. Anyone they transferred in wouldn't be very happy with the new arrangement and David feared what would happen then. So far everything was stable and decent. The boys of Dalton tolerated Sebastian and Blaine and were even friends with them; they just didn't want to room with them. They didn't want those two to have so much access to them or their stuff. Even though the two of them had no problems just walking into Thad, Wes, Jeff and Nick's room without invitation and hang out.

He wasn't sure how he'd gotten so lucky, but he wanted to stay that way. He also didn't want their new roommate to absolutely hate the others and by association, him. Like he told the others, they knew absolutely nothing about him, they needed to give him a chance.
