Ruby was having the best birthday ever. It started like any other day, with training and classes, but when it was time to go back to team RWBY's dorm, she was met with confetti and streamers.
"Happy Birthday!" Screamed the collective voices of her friends. The other members of RWBY had somehow gotten there before her and let in some familiar faces. Their sister team, JNPR, was there, as well as Sun, Neptune, and Penny.
And everyone brought presents too!
Weiss had gotten Ruby brand new sniper rounds. Each was dust-typed and already measured for the utmost destruction possible.
Yang had purchased a sharpening stone for her scythe, Crescent Rose. Ruby had been commenting that the blade wasn't as sharp as it could have been.
As for Blake, she had procured a large stack of magazines from her favorite discontinued brand, 'Till Death do us Part'. As Ruby tore through them, she gave many whistles and remarks.
"Now that's a katana," she stated at one of the pages.
As for JNPR, Jaune had also gotten a gift for Crescent Rose. Now she could sleep comfortably in her own sleeping bag and pillow, made exquisitely for sniper rifles. Ruby quickly tucked in CR for the night in her new sleeping quarters.
Nora had brought a half-filled bowl of chocolate chip cookies, to which Ruby couldn't help but notice a few brown stains around her mouth and fingers.
Ren had scolded Nora, and gave Ruby a large pile of coupons, each one reading '1 dozen cookies whenever you want'. Ruby couldn't wait to cash them in.
Pyrrha also offered coupons. But these offered hand-to-hand training classes with the Invincible Girl herself. Ruby graciously accepted, but she quickly put them where she would forget about them.
Sun and Neptune shared a gift, and gave a signed poster of their team, along with the signatures of the other two members.
Yang stole that gift.
Penny's gift was probably the most interesting of them all. In a small box, was a knife that turned into a small laser. When Ruby got a hold of it, she squealed in delight and wouldn't stop hugging Penny.
"I love it, I love it, I LOVE IT!" Ruby exclaimed, before shooting a small laser bolt into Sun's poster.
"Aw, come on! Sun cried as it burst into flames. Even Yang sighed.
The party lasted a full 10 years of celebration, all fit into 2 hours.
The walls were caked in… well, cake, the roof was covered in streamers, and the ground was hidden beneath sheets of wrapping paper.
One by one, the non-members of RWBY left, some tired from the party, while others had realized how late it was becoming.
"See you guys tomorrow," Ruby called out to everyone as they left. Sadly, this left RWBY to clean up.
"Awwww, do we have to?" Yang groaned, earning a smack to the head from Weiss.
"Of course, you dunce. It's rude to leave your home in a state of grumbles but starts picking up trash, tossing random pieces of paper into a garbage bag.
A few minutes later, the entire room was cleaned up.
"That went quicker than I thought," Blake commented, sliding one of her backs back under her pillow.
"And now we have a giant confetti firework!" Yang declared before tossing the bag out the window. She then rears back and punches a shot off at it, causing it to explode and burn into the night sky.
"Pretty," Ruby commented before tripping over a small box.
"What's this?" Weiss asks, leaning down and picking it up. The box was plain blue with a yellow bow.
"Ruby stands back up, "I don't know."
"Someone must have left it," Bale guesses. "It's probably another present for Ruby."
"Oh! Lemme see!" Yang quickly runs over and takes the box from Weiss' hands. "Let's find out what's inside," she grips the sides of the small box and tries to open it, only for it not to budge. Grunting, she flips it around on every side and continues to try and open the box, to no avail.
Blake rolls her eyes and plucks it from the blonde bombshell's hands. "It's for Ruby, not for you." She then tosses the box to Ruby, who catches it easily.
"All four DNA profiles acknowledged," a voice called out from the box.
"What the-," all four girls of team RWBY called out before the box started glowing and pulsing before it vanished into thin air.
Team RWBY's faces can only be described as incredulous. But before they could ponder, a loud wheezing sound was heard behind them.
Quickly turning around, and drawing their weapons, they are once again frozen in confusion and awe as a deep blue box seems to appear in front of them.
What made the box more confusing was the word 'police' written on the outside and the large light atop the roof, like a crown.
"What is this?!" Ruby asks, zooming around the perimeter of the box. "I've never seen anything like this before."
"What is it?" Blake asks, reaching forward to touch the strange… thing.
Her hand is quickly slapped away by Weiss. "You idiot! Don't touch it. We don't know if it's dangerous, or radioactive, or… dangerous!"
"You said 'dangerous' twice there, Weiss," Yang comments.
"I know!"
Suddenly, the front doors swing open and a large amount of smoke bellows out. Once again, team RWBY drops into their own respective stances and arms their weapons.
"Ack! Stupid machine!" Coughing, a man steps out, waving away the smoke from his face. He is instantly met with three blades held against his throat, and a fist for good measure. "Um, I come in peace?" He comments, his hands raised in surrender.
"Who are you?" Ruby asks, studying him.
He wears a light red shirt, with a dark red jacket over it and a black scarf. The jacket has a few black stripes on the sleeves, but no discernable markings. The man has a mop of uncombed brown hair and a small pair of black glasses resting on his nose. On his left arm is a semi-ornate watch, black with a red face, and on his right hand is a small silver ring with a red stone on his ring finger. His pants were well-worn but not torn. They were made of a black fabric that Ruby had never seen before. He wore deep red boots that matched his jacket, but they were obviously for combat. The steel toes were a dead giveaway.
The strange man smirks. "I'm a friend. My name is the Librarian."
"The librarian?" Weiss scoffs, "what kind of name is that?"
"My name," the Librarian states, his hands dropping to his sides. "I've been looking for you."
Blake glares, "why?"
The Librarian pushes the point of Blake's katana away from his throat. "Because I am here to show you something."
"What would that be?" Weiss asks, still not letting her own blade dip.
"I would like to show you the records of a hero. The story of a man who always tries to help those in need of it."
"Why?" Yang asks, slowly dropping her gauntlets.
"Because," the Librarian smiles, "I thought that birthday girl would want a gift that showed her all she could be."
Folding her scythe, Ruby looks up at the man. "Really?!"
The Librarian smiles and nods. "Would you like to see?"
Ruby nods ecstatically and the Librarian opens the doors to his strange machine. He walks inside and Ruby begins to follow, only for Weiss to grab her arm.
"What are you doing? We don't know if we can trust him!" She hissed.
Ruby rolls her eyes, "if he wanted to hurt us, he wouldn't have come out unarmed."
"Yeah, Weiss," Yang says, stepping next to her sister. "Live a little."
Weiss sighs but sheathes her rapier, but continues to keep a steady hand on the hilt just in case.
Slowly, team RWBY walks inside and their jaws drop to the floor.
"Oh. My. Gods," Weiss whispers.
"It's… It's…" Blake stutters.
"Bigger on the inside," Yang finished.
The Librarian, who leans against the doorway, snickers. "Noooo," he says sarcastically.
"How?!" Ruby asks, quickly exploring the area in front of them. The room was a soft silver, with a large metal circular control console in the center. It was covered with dials and switches that all glowed different colors. Above the console were screens with strange symbols and diagrams. The lights shined a calming red and the floor was a reflective mirror.
The Librarian smirks and raises his arms. "Time Lord technology. Welcome... to my T.A.R.D.I.S!"
"T.A.R.D.I.S?" Weiss asks, walking over and staring at one of the screens.
"It stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space," the Librarian states. "I use it to travel in between dimensions, space, and time."
"Time?!" Ruby exclaims. "This is a time machine?!"
The Librarian nods and smiles. "Yes, but I didn't bring you onboard to show you that. I came to show you Doctor Who."
"Doctor Who?" Yang asks. "What's that?"
"Who's that," the Librarian corrects. "It's the name of the saga of the great hero I told you about."
"How are we going to watch it?" Blake asks. "Are you going to take us there to watch it?"
"Oh biscuits no," the Librarians laughed. "That would take too long. Nothing so prolonged. I have a better idea. Follow me." The Librarian walks towards one of the panels on the wall opposite of the entrance. Team RWBY follows him and peers over his shoulder.
On the digital-pad, he scrolls through a bunch of words before settling on THEATRE-7. When the Librarian hit's the enter key, the floor below them pulls away and the TARDIS' crew falls down a tube slide.
"AAAAH!" Weiss and Blake scream.
"Wheeee!" Shouts the Librarian, Yang, and Ruby.
A few dozen feet later, team RWBY and the Librarian land on a large cushion, bouncing everyone in a different direction. Only the Librarian lands on his feet, while his guests struggle to stand up.
"Slip-slopes. Always the best way to travel," the Librarian states. He raises his arms and points to different aspects of the room they now fill. "Welcome to theatre-7!"
For the third time today, team RWBY is awe-struck. Along the walls are different snacks and drinks, and the screen was humongous.
"It's bigger than ours," Weiss mutters, amazed.
The Librarian smirks, "I have drinks from all over the dimensions, and every flavor you could possibly imagine. Go ahead and grab whatever you want, I'll get the screen ready."
Walking over to another side panel, the Librarian begins typing away and setting up the screen. Meanwhile Ruby grabs as much candy, milkshakes, and cookies as possible.
"This is going to be so much fun!"
Yang also grabs some sweets but is more reserved than Ruby. Blake, however, found a fish-market station. As she filled a plate with the different exotic fishes, a soft purring could be heard around her. Weiss decided against snacks and settled down in one of the many seats in front of the screen.
One by one, the members of team RWBY sat down in the super-soft, retractable chairs. Soon, the Librarian joined them, sitting down next to the birthday girl and wielding a remote.
"Ready?"
"Yep!"
"Let's do this!"
"Ready when you are."
"Sure."
The Librarian raises an eyebrow at the Ice Queen's comment but leans back and presses play.
"Hobey-Ho! Let's go!"
Ok, it's not as long as my other pilots, but it's a start. I really just wanted to write this because it gave me an excuse to rewatch Doctor Who. And it also gives me a break from my other stories.
This story isn't just going to be another 'RWBY' watches the _. There are going to be side-stories and fun things all throughout.
I'm not a BIG Whovian, I've only watched the 9th and 10th (and clips from the 11th and 12th).
Is the Librarian another version of the Doctor? Nope. RAFO more about him.
Maybe I will do crossovers to other stories of mine, or, if you have a story already, let me know so we can work on one together. That's only if you want to do this. I do not want to steal your story, just spread more awareness of it.
Please, feel free to follow and comment predictions, thoughts, etc. I am always looking for new ways to improve my craft. Tell your friends!
