Joseph Brun was a child of the Dragon Clan, born in Blackthorn City, cousin of Lance and Clair, equally talented but far younger and unexperienced. He had dabbled in Pokémon training and had learnt the basics.

But one faithful day, Joseph was watching TV, the battles of the Masters 8 were playing. Such awesome trainers, like his cousin Lance, Cynthia, and Ash Ketchum, the first Alola Champion, winner of many competitions. But the Monarch was superior: Leon, Galar's best trainer. Joseph wanted to be the Monarch, Joseph HAD to be the Monarch. That was his objective.

"Joseph?" One of the Dragon Clan's servants had come down to Joseph's room. He looked at her. "Come now. The Patriarch wants to talk with you"

Joseph stood up as quickly as possible: If the Patriarch called you, you had to go. Very few people could earn the Patriarch's true respect, as it came with a test of character. The Patriarch was said to have powers, like reading hearts, so you couldn't just lie on the test or just say what he wanted to hear. Thus, Joseph knew he had to go with his heart shining and his mind brilliant.

He went down the Dragon Den, to the main temple of the clan. The Patriarch was there. He was kind with the kids, but Joseph had learnt to fear his authority. Nevertheless, he found him smiling.

"How are you, grandson?" He asked, gently.

Joseph somehow knew that it wasn't a formal meeting with the Patriarch of their sacred clan, but a grandpa who wanted to greet his grandson. He dropped formalities and run towards his grandpa, sitting on his lap.

"I'm fine, grandpa! I was just watching uncle Lance fighting at the Masters 8. He was so close to getting the Monarch title last year!" Joseph shouted, totally excited, looking at the Patriarch with a smile.

"We hope that he gets it this year" The Patriarch smiled. "It was a turbulent year, with Rose's betrayal. But it will be okay for the clan"

Joseph looked at his grandpa, who ruffled his hair.

"You're already 11 years old, huh?" The Patriarch asked. "Not so long ago, you were a little toddler"

Joseph looked at him, not understanding his nostalgia. He smiled, with a PokéBall on his hands.

"This is something you may want" He said. "It's a Dratini with the special move Extreme Speed. Outside the Den, I already summoned someone to give you a SmartRotom of those with a PokéDex, so you can begin a journey through Johto and Kanto"

"Both regions?" Joseph asked.

"Only eight badges from the two regions are necessary to compete in the Indigo Conference, but I would want you to get sixteen badges, eight of both regions" The Patriarch said.

Joseph then accepted the PokéBall.

"I will do it. Then, I'll compete in the Indigo Conference" Joseph smiled.

"Of course" The Patriarch said. "Get your luggage, and go, my child!"

"Yes, I will!" Joseph went as quick as he could to his room to get clothes, some food and water, a mini-kitchen, a tent where he could sleep... He was done packing. He took his Bag where he had everything, and set off, along with his new SmartRotom, which had also a Map. The Map indicated him that the Ice Path was the nearest place to exit town.

He took out Dratini from its PokéBall.

"So, Dratini" Joseph smiled. "Are you ready to go in adventures!"

"Tini!" The little dragon squeaked.

"He's more than ready!" SmartRotom shouted, scaring Joseph. "Oh, I'm sorry. I'm your SmartRotom, I got the ability to speak the human language, and I'm able to translate Pokémon speech to my trainer!"

"I wasn't told you guys were Pokémon too..." Joseph sighed. "I guess I gotta learn more"

"That's right, man!" SmartRotom said, excited. "Let's go to the new adventure!"

And so, Joseph went to the Ice Path, towards Mahogany Town.
