"Princess I will protect you." He was only a Genin commoner, but she was his best friend.

"Glasho-chan don't, my uncles too powerful. He has a whole army of ninja." The black haired girl pleaded with her most important person after her father.

Kakashi Hatake elite young Jonin sighed. How did he get into these situations. "Alright listen kid, my mission is to get her out of here. This is sweet and all, but my window of escape is shrinking by the minute."

"Don't call me a kid, Scarecrow. Your only a few years older than me." He lifted his hands threateningly wielding a kunai in each.

"The caliber of differences between our skills is far more than age. I fought in the last great war while you weren't even a ninja yet." Before he could reprimand his tag along further a squad of enemies surrounded them. Luckily it didn't seem like any of the ringleaders just grunts.

"Stop right there Leaf village scum! Our false princess is to stay right here!" The tallest of the party of Snow Chunin shouted. Unfortunately, for him he didn't realize who he was dealing with. The white haired Shinobi made short work of the peons. However, like a swarm of ants more kept coming.

Glasho stood by his friend using his twin blades to block. He succeeded in keeping the deadly projectiles from Koyuki-chan. On the other hand he was not so lucky. Taking several kunai to his own body in the process.

There was so much blood on him she wanted to cry. Koyuki doubted he would survive much longer without aid. Committed to giving up, her choice was taken away.

He coughed up blood as he stared at the horde of enemies. It seemed his life was destined to be a short one. Regardless if he could save her than that was enough. In his adrenaline haze he saw an enemy making familiar hand signs. If something wasn't done soon all three of them were in for some trouble.

The desperate Genin had no time to think he must act. He grabbed her arm and shoved her at his superior ally. "Go Scarecrow, now!" Without further hesitation he charged thru the two foes guarding his target. His metal blades rose with a subdued cry of pain as more blood dirtied the snow. It was a red mixture of his and theirs. His first kills were at the end of his life, at least he wouldn't go alone. The protectors pitched to either side of him letting out death rattles.

Unfortunately, he was too late as he buried his blades in the enemy the jutsu completed. Time seemed to slow down as he glanced briefly behind him. Hatake-san had listened to his final request. The pair was swiftly leaving as the Land of his birth swallowed him.

"Ninja Art Avalanche of Sorrow jutsu!" Cried the sinister foe.

A muted scream echoed in his small apartment as he awoke covered in sweat. 'That nightmare hadn't plagued him in awhile.' He stumbled over to his bathroom sink. The old scars seemed to drip red for a moment until he shook the sleep from his mind.

As he was about to start his morning routine he heard a muffled knock at his door. He considered his shirtless athletic form then decided to not bother covering it. He was fairly certain he knew who it was. No one else would bother this early. Or so he thought anyway.

He opened the door. As a slender fist that had been preparing to knock again stopped.

"Chunin Glasho Tankeno, Lord Doto wishes to speak with you. I am not at liberty to discuss further. The average looking black haired woman wore a formal messenger outfit. She looked him up and down with a loosely pleased expression. "Though I advise you, to wear more traditional attire."

He bowed with respect to the strange woman. "I'm sorry, I was expecting someone else."

She cleared her throat with purpose. "No doubt Chunin Tankeno. However, I have no interest in your... extracurricular activities." She crossed her arms defensively and waited attempting to appear annoyed. She made no effort to turn her back.

"Uh right, I'll need a few minutes. Miss?" He left a notable space for her to fill.

"My name is not part of my formal duties Chunin Tankeno. If you wish it, you must earn it." She gave a less covert glance at his pleasing form.

"Right, sorry again." Finally getting the hint. He closed the door and quickly got ready for the day.

Glasho's gray Chunin vest had his clan name on the back. He wore a dark blue long sleeved shirt under it. White heavy wool pants completed the outfit. Not being a member of any great clan that was all he could call his work uniform. At least as an orphan of the rebellion just under ten years ago. He was gifted with a small manageable apartment. His mysterious female escort soon brought him before the reigning Lord Kazahana.

Doto glared at his summoned minion. Begrudgingly he admitted this ninja was his best tracker. "Tankeno, why do you insist on going about armor less?" He patted his own prototype with irritation. "This technology is the pinnacle of our research. Your foolishness will get you killed one day."

From his kneeling position he controlled his own anger. He was in the presence of his villages main corrupter. "With respect Lord Doto. Those suits make people soft as I've reported many times. In my line of work it is merely a hindrance.

"I'm sure the people that visit your grave in the future will disagree. Regardless, I sent for you because your particular skills are needed in this instance. Be warned, this mission is for the good of the land." With a gesture of his hand one of his aides brought a rolled scroll to the Shinobi. "The details are in there feel free to recruit any Genin or Chunin you deem necessary. Your are expected to set out no later than the end of the day." He waved his hand arrogantly at the kneeling man. "Dismissed, Chunin Tankeno!"

As his summoned ninja left. His most trusted bodyguard whispered to him. "Respectfully Lord Doto, are you sure he can be trusted with that mission? His parents were on the side of your brother during your rise to power."

"Old news my loyal servant. If he dies we lose nothing. Not to mention, anyone he takes with him will be investigated afterwards." The tyrant laughed at his cleverness. In the end if Glasho Tankeno survives all he learned would be a boon. He saw only gain with little chance of a negative outcome.
