Decided to put this up from my AO3 account. hope this pairing idea was more popular. I hope to do more chapters.
Mirabel Madrigal knew what she had seen at the night of Antonio's Gift ceremony and it wasn't just paranoia and her own failed Gift ceremony putting her through the motions; despite how hard she tried she knew that she wasn't special like her family was but she was determined to show that she could help out their community and their Encanto just as they do!
Plus overhearing her Abuela Alma praying to the magical Candle and to her late husband to guide her and help save their Miracle; this could be her chance to prove herself to the family and to her Abuela by being the way to find a way to fix whatever caused the cracks that she had seen.
Only problem is that she absolutely had no idea where to even begin!
Maybe she could try and ask the Candle herself; if she was the one to find the cracks then perhaps that was a sign that it would indeed be up to her to fix the Miracle. Perhaps the Candle would be more forthcoming to her in showing her answers.
After breakfast with everyone else going to their chores she went up to the window sill where the Candle stayed; never burning out and always lit.
She coughed and then waved to the Candle saying "hi; I'm Mirabel you know the Madrigal who didn't get a Gift for some reason not that I am bitter or anything because I am sure there is some reason... I mean there could be another purpose and that could be that I am meant to save the Miracle because something must be happening to the magic... So I was wondering if you could give me a hint as to what is happening?"
Nothing happened; the Candle just sat there not reacting to her request...
Well; if she was meant to be the one to save the Miracle then off course it wouldn't be easy, she then thought it over. "So... It would be nice if I could please get some pointer where to start..." Mirabel pleaded as the Candle still just sat there. "Come on please... Maybe there is somewhere else with magic that can help... Am I supposed to journey there because you know there are the big mountains so leaving the Encanto would be pretty hard not that anyone ever wanted to leave this wonderful and save place before... Besides Tio Bruno for some reason but... Am I supposed to go on a quest?" Mirabel asked and still the Candle just continued doing what it normally did: sit there doing nothing but staying lit.
Would it help if she buttered up the Candle a little? Sounds rediculous off course but it was a magic Candle that kept the family and their community safe and blessed her familia with amazing powers so the magic Candle may have some awareness especially since it gave them a house which definitely had a mind off it's own.
Shouldn't be too much to think that maybe the magic Candle might have something resembling a mind off it's own as well and could be buttered up.
Thinking quickly she went to her room (the nursery) and got her accordion, her prized posession. A birthday gift from her Abuela for her 6th birthday; she sighed at the memories of that day and the days leading up to it. The mutterings off the community and the other kids making fun for it; the anniversary off her failed ceremony and she hated the constant reminders. Even begging her family to let her just skip her birthday, just let her turn 6 without any fanfare.
However it still went on and her family even put out the stops to make it seem special and to make Mirabel forget about what had happened the previous year despite how impossible it would be; Isabela filled Casita with all sorts of beautful flower decorations and the bouquet that she had gave Mirabel. Even if she became more aloof towards Mirabel in later years; she did seem genuine in wanting to help make Mirabel feel better even if her showing off her extra special Gift didn't really help make Mirabel feel better.
Abuela Alma's present had been the accordion; figuring that it could help find Mirabel something for her to do while the rest off the family were busy using their Gifts. The present was extra special to Mirabel because she saw it as a symbol that her Abuela still cared for her and that she could make her proud!
With the accordion she then went back to the Candle and played for it an improvised song singing about how great and amazing the Candle and it's magic were.
Nothing happened.
She then started doing some more different songs for the Candle and it was getting harder to make up songs for the Candle on the spot.
She then grew frustrated and shouted at the Candle "what do you want from me? Am I really supposed to save the Miracle because that's going to be really hard if I have no idea where to begin with that! I try so hard to prove to everyone that I am as special as the familia but is my purpose just to be the family disappointment? Did I not get a Gift just to be a joke? Was there any purpose or reason why I didn't get one?"
She calmed down as she didn't want to get too upset and become angry; "Please; is there any magic out there that can help us save the Miracle then I want to find it... I just want to help..." Mirabel pleaded as she was on her knees and reached out to the candle touching it with her finger...
Something did happen...
The Candle started glowing and the magical decorations around it appeared and spread until it became a circle around her. "Wait... Something is happening... Something is happening!" Mirabel cheered finally getting some progress but then realised that she had no idea what was going. "Wait... What is happening?" she asked as she then disappeared along with her accordion.
Dolores Madrigal was helping out getting things ready for the dinner with the man off her dreams Mariano Guzmán where they would be engaged together; just as Tio Bruno's vision for her said: just out of reach, betrothed to another.
Bitter disappointment that she had to keep to herself; making it worse that Isabela didn't even like him that way and was only going with it for the family. For their Abuela. Isabela kept her comments to herself which would be overheard by Dolores, not that she hated him and was perfectly happy to talk to him but she could never appreciate him the way Dolores did; knowing about how much off a helpful loving romantic gentleman that he was.
She decided to give herself a break from it; normally for entertainment she would like to overhear the telenovelas that Tio Bruno puts together with his rats in his secret room on the other side off the walls in the kitchen. She didn't know why he ran away in the first place only to hide himself in Casita; but whatever the reason it wasn't her secret to reveal.
The curse off her Gift was to hear all these secrets that she had to keep to herself.
She liked hearing the stories of the teneovelas but the last few storylines weren't up to snuff, some dissapointing reveals and the last plot twist... Uhh...
She decided to hear how Mirabel was doing; couldn't be easy with how she reacted after Antonio's Gift ceremony and being told that no one believes her. Still it would be nice to check up on her and see if she had calmed down...
She was instantly concerned when she heard Mirabel pleading to someone or perhaps something that she just wants to help, then something happening and hearing Mirabel's excitement that something is happening and then asking what was happening.
Then nothing...
"Did you hear something Dolores? Something we should be worried about?" Alma asked Dolores in concern taking Dolores off guard.
"Nothing at all Abuela, it was just a small argument that I caught that has been settled." lied Dolores with a smile that seemed to satisfy Alma; after everything that has happened Mirabel didn't need any trouble with their Abuela.
Besides Mirabel was probably fine...
Mirabel had absolutely no idea where she was now; she was in the middle of some marketplace with stalls and it was was extremely crowded. She had to quickly move past all the people and got to the side giving apologies for being in their way. Getting stares as she could tell that her clothes were unlike anything that the people here wore.
She started having to shield her face with her hand while her other held her accordion; the heat felt like the hottest day that she had ever experienced. She looked down and her eyes widened, she had to bend down to check but there was indeed sand on the ground.
Did the Candle sent her to a desert?
She then decided to go up to the nearest stall and went to look at the vendor and she withered a bit under his gaze; "Hola... I'm Mirabel and I am a traveler from far away... I was wondering if you can tell me where I am? Anything off sort that I am to know to fit in?" she asked flashing a smile.
"The kingdom of Agrabah; we are protected by the royal guard off the Sultan himself who looks out for troublemakers and thieves." the vendor explained as Mirabel took this in.
"Thank you; one more thing... I am on the lookout for magic and I don't suppose you know where I can find it?" Mirabel asked and the vendor looked like she had just asked a stupid question, "I see, not much magic to be found here but... Well, thank you for your time!" Mirbael said waving him goodbye as she walked away to think.
Clearly if there was magic in Agrabah then she would need to look for it; especially as it had just dawned on her that until she found any magic she had no way whatsoever to get back to the Encanto and no idea where on the globe she was and how close or far it was to the Encanto.
Was she stuck there; never to see her famila or community again...
No; no time to contemplate that! She will find a way to save the Miracle and she will find a way back to the Encanto!
Still until then she better find herself a way to make herself comfortable here as no telling how long she was going to be here.
Looking around the marketplace she noticed some entertainers like a bodybuilder much bigger than anyone back home except for Luisa; impressive enough even if she was certain that Luisa could easily outdo anything he could do. Then there was a sword swallowing man and then noticing the people giving gold coins to them and clap.
Then her mind went to her accordion as she then found a spot to start singing a song that she had made up back home; just a general one unrelated to the Encanto but it was catching attention from passerbys. Once she was done she smiled and bowed to the clapping and the coins being thrown her way.
Well she had herself a way to pay for food and probably shelter for the duration off her stay in Agrabah. Now she just has to make sure to listen out for anything that could be helpful and hope for the best.
