Chapter 1.
There was a loud thump coming from the back entrance, and Jess wasn't quite sure what that could be. Sam was out of town with his brother, but maybe they came back early.
"Sam?", she called out down stairs, but no one replied.
"Sam?", she tried again, this time from the top of the stairs and a little louder.
Still nothing. She considered going down to check, but quickly thought better of it. If it had been Sam, he would have replied by now. If it had been someone friendly, they would have also identified themselves.
This was bad, Jess thought. Really bad. She darted towards the bedroom, and shut the door behind her. She could now hear someone walk upstairs, floorboards creaking slowly with every step. They did not seem to be in a rush, and Jess now regretted making so much noise running for the bedroom. For the first time in her life, she also regretted not having a gun in the house. The creaking was getting louder, closer. Then, suddenly, it came to a halt. Jess supposed the intruder was at the top of the stairs. There were three rooms upstairs, all with their doors closed. If the intruder would go for any other room but hers, she could try and make a run for it. Maybe make it to the kitchen, maybe grab a knife. Alas, she had no such luck. The doorknob started rattling and Jess quickly shoved the nightstand against the closed door. She would soon learn how useless that act turned to be, just as the door slammed against the wall, completely smashing the old and frail nightstand.
In the doorway stood a tall, middle-aged man with white hair and very yellow eyes.
"Where is Sam?", he demanded.
This man was no friend, and Jess did not want to give her boyfriend away. But even if she did, she still would not know.
"He left with his brother, three days ago", she replied honestly, yet frightened.
"Where?", the man was now walking in the room, and as if caught up in a little dance with him, with every step he took towards her, Jess took a step backwards, until she almost hit the large chest of drawers by the far-end wall.
"I don't know."
The events that unfolded following her answer were nearly catastrophic to say the least. The yellow-eyed man put out his right arm, his palm facing Jess and in that very moment she felt snatched by an invisible force. It took a hold of her core and propelled her into the chest of drawers behind her. She then felt herself being dragged upwards past the furniture, past the wall, and slammed on the ceiling.
"Then I have no further use for you, Jessica", the man said. "Goodbye." And with that, disappeared.
Her innards felt like they were being pulled out of herself, and the room began to feel very hot. The ceiling was on fire, and the fire was closing in on her. She yelled and screamed for help as her stomach and core felt more and more like they were about to burst open.
"JESS!", she heard Sam's voice.
"BEDROOM!", she managed to force herself to answer, worried it may have been too weak for Sam to hear. But he came. He may have not heard her voice, but he surely saw the bedroom being on fire from the street, and he rushed in. With him, Dean, and a woman that Jess had never met before.
"JESS!", he said looking up.
"IAIAL!", yelled the woman, and Jess felt an instant release from the grip of the invisible force. She fell from the ceiling and right into Sam's arms, where she blacked out almost instantly.
