Summary: The curse is broken, but our heroes are not returned to the Enchanted Forest. Instead, magic is pulled from the well and our heroes have to find another way home. [Rewrite of season 2].

Preface

As the curse broke over Storybrooke, the townsfolk slowly began waking up and regaining their memories. David, becoming Charming once again, spotted Mary Margaret, remembering she was Snow White, from across the street. He stopped, his heart pounding in his chest at the sight of his wife. A smile broke his face and he called, "Snow!"

She stopped at the sound of his voice and slowly looked up to see him standing just beyond her fingertips. "Charming." She sucked in a breath and started running for him.

He held out his arms and met her half-way, engulfing her in a warm embrace.

They stared into each other's eyes, each searching for the person they loved until the memories completely settled. Neither of them could find the words to say after so many years apart.

With their hands unable to find a proper place to grab, Snow took a breath and smiled. "You found me."

He choked back a cry and nodded, using his thumbs to wipe away her tears. "Did you ever doubt I would?"

She shook her head and he leaned down, pulling her in for a lost kiss finally found.

Regina, who had never changed due to the curse, found herself sitting on Henry's bed, eyes watering. She lost her son. In order to save his life, the life she put in danger, she had to give up the curse that made their life possible. She hugged his pillow to her chest, her heart aching at the loss forming in her life. He was gone.

Mr. Gold, now again Rumpelstiltskin, stood in his shop. The small gaps in his rather wonderfully regained memory were filled in as his fingers ran over the chipped cup that once belonged to Belle. Unfortunately, Belle was gone and wasn't coming back. Her father was there in Storybrooke, probably remembering everything he put her through. It was a small consolation for Rumple. He nudged the cup and saucer away from the edge of the counter and shuffled into the backroom to start packing for his trip to find Baelfire.

Emma and Henry got onto the street as quickly as they could to watch the townsfolk remember who they were. Henry grabbed her hand and pulled her along, his eyes scanning each person they passed for Snow and Charming.

Suddenly the ground of Storybrooke shook and from the wishing well, puffed out thick fumes of purple smoke which hurled quickly towards the town. People screamed and ran for cover.

Snow and Charming clung to each other in a desperate attempt to stay together.

Regina jumped to the window and upon realizing what the smoke represented, smiled bitterly.

Rumple felt the smoke coming deep in his bones and he sat down, waiting to see what was going to happen next.

Emma and Henry stared, jaws dropped, at the massive cloud to soon encase them.

When the smoke cleared, everyone in Storybrooke could feel the familiar hum of magic as a small portion of it settled in the air, bringing back few magical traits and powers. However, only vaguely. Small changes began happening to the once magical beings.

Regina felt slight sparks charging up her fingertips.

Rumple's skin gained a slight gold tint and the magic that made him up, filled with new life for only a second.

Emma's minor magical talent for lie-detecting exploded into something she could feel with each pulse of her heart.

Mother Superior as the Blue Fairy and Astrid as Nova, along with the other Sister Fairies, had miniature versions of their wings spout from their backs.

Emma looked down at Henry, her eyes wide. She pressed a hand to her heart, trying to reign in the power fluctuating in her body. "I thought-… I thought everyone was supposed to go back. Not for magic to come here!"

"Something's wrong!" He panicked until he saw Charming and Snow, giving hugs to Red and the reformed Seven Dwarves. "Charming and Snow might know what's going on. Come on."

She looked up to where he was looking, and a cold sweat broke down her back. "My parents…"

Here it is! I did it!

OKAY, LISTEN! This is how this is going to be laid out.

The first few chapters will be character chapters. I want to reintroduce them and their new character motivations. After I get the character chapters out of the way, I will get into the plot and will stay on the plot.

I plan on three seasons for my rewrite. Some aspects of the original show (after season 1) will still be in play here. I will do my best to keep the characters from going too OOC. I will update as often as I can.
