Note: I never thought that I would start this story. In fact, I hoped to start it later on. However, here it is: my retelling of Star Fox Adventures and Assault that will fit into the new continuity (aka the Zero continuity), which is also the continuity I'm using. This story will retcon and change a number of things about the story of both games so that they can fit into my continuity. In addition, I want to apologize for my behavior throughout the Star Fox fandom and the community. I hope that all of you can forgive me. Alright, it's time for chapter one.
Chapter 1: Prologue
A cobalt blue vixen was running through the valley. She was wearing a tan dress, sandals, a necklace, and a tiara on her head. The vixen just so happened to be eighteen, given how she was almost as big as some of the people in the valley. They were all running around, terrified for their lives as the land below them crumbled.
"Krystal!" A voice called.
The vixen stopped in her tracks, turning her head to see a brown wolf running near her. The lupine stopped in his tracks, feeling the need to catch his breath.
"Sabre, I've been looking all over for you and Randorn!" The vixen said.
"I take it you heard the news, Krystal?" Sabre, the lupine, asked.
"Yes," Krystal, the vixen, answered, "my mother told me that Venom's army is destroying Cerinia! We need to head for the ships!"
"Come with me," Sabre said, "you can go with me and Randorn!"
Before Krystal could follow Sabre to the ship that he and Randorn were going to use, another fox grabbed her arm. He was a tod who was blue like Krystal, but he had dark blue eyes that contrasted with her emerald green ones. He was wearing a red robe over casual clothing, even having a silver crown on his forehead.
"Father!" Krystal said, her voice more fearful than happy.
"You're not going with him, young lady!" The cobalt tod hissed.
"King Opal," Sabre spoke, "let her go with Randorn and me! We can watch after her!"
"Forget it!" Opal, the tod, glared daggers at him. "No daughter of mine is going with one of my Knights and a magic-using freak like Randorn!"
"Father, please!" Krystal begged.
Opal ignored the cobalt vixen, dragging her away from Sabre. He forced her over to a ship that was by its lonesome.
"Here's your ship!" Opal said, practically pushing Krystal towards it.
"Why can't I go with mom, Jewel, and Beryl?" Krystal asked.
"You don't need them!" The cobalt tod said. "Now, get in the ship!"
"No, I want to go with them!" The cobalt vixen argued.
"You'll never see them again!" The King grabbed her by her ear. "Please, just get in the damn ship!"
Getting her ear free, Krystal reluctantly walked into the ship Opal had reserved for her. Once she got in, the cobalt vixen saw that some of her belongings had been packed.
"Rather nice of him to pack my stuff," she said to herself, "given his track record of bad behavior towards me."
All of a sudden, the ship started to move. This meant one thing: it was taking off! Not only that, but it had started to secrete a gas into the room. Krystal panicked, holding her breath and covering her nose in order to keep the gas away from her. The cobalt vixen's telepathy hadn't sensed that the ship would do such a thing. However, a realization quickly dawned onto her.
The ship's telepathy-proof. Krystal sighed as she thought to herself. Figures that father would do this to me.
Krystal couldn't keep the gas away from her for long, as it seeped into her nose despite her best attempt to cover it. It started to take effect, causing the cobalt vixen to slip into unconsciousness. She struggled to stay awake, crawling towards the control pad of the ship. There was nothing that could stop the gas from knocking her out, not even a button. Unable to keep her eyes open for long, Krystal slipped into unconsciousness, falling asleep.
Fifteen minutes later, Krystal was woken up by the sound of an explosion. Startled, the cobalt vixen began to look around to see where the sound was coming from. Looking out of the cockpit of the ship, she saw something horrible: Cerinia's destruction. The planet was reduced to rubble, leaving almost nothing behind in its place. All that was left was multiple space rocks that would undoubtedly be called asteroids. Krystal's eyes widened in terror, quickly turning into despair.
"My home." The cobalt vixen whimpered, tears filling her eyes.
Some of the asteroids flew past Krystal's ship, close enough so that she could see some of Cerinia's remains.
"No, no, NO!!" Krystal wailed, curling up into a ball on the floor of the ship. The cobalt vixen sobbed as she hugged herself, unable to calm herself down. She was in utter despair: she was separated from her family, her home was destroyed, a ship was taking her to an unknown location, and, worst of all, she would more than likely never see her family again. And even that depended if they escaped Cerinia's destruction on time. After a few minutes, Krystal's ears perked up.
"Reached destination: Sauria." The ship's AI said.
Getting up from the floor, Krystal wiped her eyes and stepped out of the ship. She was now in the domain of the Earthwalkers, a tribe who resided on Sauria. However, she didn't care. Now that Cerinia was destroyed, the cobalt vixen didn't want to live anymore. She walked to a river and jumped in, intent on drowning in it.
I might as well join Cerinia. Krystal thought to herself, intending it to be her final thought. However, she felt something pull her out of the river. That something was one of the EarthWalkers. Unlike many that Krystal had seen in books that she had on Sauria's tribes, this EarthWalker was rather small. In fact, he could easily be considered an adolescent member of his tribe.
"You shouldn't do that." He said.
"Why not?" Krystal spoke. "Suicide is painless, after all."
"My mother says that people who consider suicide are thinking about throwing their own lives away." The young EarthWalker said.
"She's right, I shouldn't take my own life." The cobalt vixen stood up. "Just because Cerinia got destroyed, doesn't mean that I have to kill myself."
"Cerinia? What's that?"
"It was my home planet, until it got destroyed."
As soon as she said that, Krystal saw the young EarthWalker back away.
"Don't leave, I won't hurt you." Krystal calmly said.
This girl is from another planet? The EarthWalker's thoughts entered the cobalt vixen's mind. But, she's not a threat, so I'm okay. What will mom say to her, though? Do we even have enough food to feed her? Okay, think Tricky, think!
"Your name is Tricky." Krystal said.
"Yes," he said, "Prince Tricky of the EarthWalker tribe. Wait, how did you know that?"
"My telepathy must have picked up your thoughts," the cobalt vixen said, "and, for that, I apologize. It's fair that I introduced myself to you. I am Krystal Bodimead, former Princess of Cerinia."
"Nice to meet you, Krystal." Tricky said.
"Who in the blazes is that tiny lass?" A voice asked.
Krystal's telepathy reacted violently to her surroundings. Upon turning to look, she saw a large boulder move. Unlike most boulders, this one had arms, eyes, and a mouth. It moved its hand towards Krystal, gently picking her up from the ground. After that, it brought the cobalt vixen closer to its face.
"Ah, I can see you better now." The sentient boulder said, having the voice of a man.
"Good to know, I guess." Krystal said.
"Don't worry, wee lass, Old Warpstone's not going to hurt you." The living terrain stated.
"Warpstone?" The cobalt vixen spoke. "Odd, I read books about Sauria when I was at school or when I was in the library on Cerinia. None of them said anything about the Warpstone being alive."
"Those books were written by lads who were afraid of Sauria, my girl." Warpstone said. "However, I trust that I didn't frighten you, Krystal."
"You didn't," she said, "in fact, I always wanted to come to planets like this."
"Wanted to explore the galaxy, eh lass?" He asked.
"Yes, I just didn't expect my time to come on the day my home planet, Cerinia, was destroyed. Not to mention that it got destroyed a few days before my nineteenth birthday."
"Is that what the explosion in the sky was? I'm sorry, lass, I really am."
"It's okay, you wouldn't have been able to stop it."
"I suppose you want down, Krystal?"
"Sure, but thanks for speaking with me."
Warpstone lowered Krystal to the ground, setting her near Tricky. The EarthWalker looked at the cobalt vixen with excitement and curiosity.
"Wow Krystal," Tricky said, "all the stuff you've said about yourself is super interesting!"
"Thanks." Krystal said, smiling.
"But, I have to ask, if you want to travel through the galaxy, why don't you use that ship of yours?" The young Earthwalker asked.
"I think that it's sole purpose was to bring me here." The cobalt vixen said. "However, I'm fine with staying on Sauria. It looks peaceful here."
"It's not entirely peaceful." The Prince of the EarthWalkers said. "There are plenty of bad guys on here, especially the Sharpclaws."
"Well," the former Princess of Cerinia said, "we'll just have to teach them a lesson sometime. Generally, I prefer trying to make peace with them."
"Anyway, is there anything you can show me from Cerinia?"
"Sure, let me go to my ship."
Krystal walked to her ship. The first thing she did was to check of her ship was still functional. However, nothing worked anymore.
Well, I'm right that the ship was only made to bring me here. Krystal thought to herself.
After that, the cobalt vixen went over to her luggage from Cerinia. She began to look through her bags and boxes, finding some of her books and stuffed animals. However, she didn't find any flares or anything like that. Despite that, something caught her eye. It was a glistening, golden staff with a blue gem on the top. Krystal picked it up, recognizing it well.
"This is mom's staff." She said as a memory came to mind. It was from when she was six years old.
Krystal patiently waited for her mother, Estelle, to finish up in her room. The two had agreed to go on a mother-daughter outing as soon as she got finished with what she was doing. As soon as Estelle came out of her room, Krystal could see her mother's staff glistening in the doorway. The blue gem shined like the sun over the ocean. It captivated the cobalt pup the most.
"Mommy, your staff is beautiful." Krystal said.
"It's one of my prized possessions, honey." Estelle said to her daughter. "I'll let you use it when you get older."
"Really?" The cobalt pup asked, her eyes widening in excitement.
"Yes," the cobalt vixen looked at her child, "we can practice with it when you enter second grade. You can even consider it my gift to you once you become an adult. If your father tries to take it away from you, tell him that you're keeping it. If you want to do what makes you happy, that's fine. It's nothing to be ashamed of."
"Thanks, mommy!" Krystal said as she hugged her mother."
"You're welcome, dear." Estelle said, returning her daughter's hug. "Now, let's go out on our outing."
Once her flashback had ended, Krystal let out a sniffle as she wiped a tear from her eye. Tricky then came in the ship out of concern, worried that something bad had happened.
"Krystal, are you okay?" He asked.
"I'm fine," Krystal said as she saw the young EarthWalker, "do you know anyone in your tribe who would be willing to help me move my stuff?"
"Sure, why?" The Prince of the EarthWalkers asked.
"I'm moving in with the EarthWalkers," the cobalt vixen smiled, "and I'm going to help anyone who needs it."
Four months had passed since Krystal had arrived on Sauria, and her life was, for the most part, peaceful. She had become an honorary member of the EarthWalker tribe due to her desire to protect the innocent. However, she had also become friends with a CloudRunner named Kyte. The cobalt vixen had convinced the EarthWalker and the CloudRunner tribes to make peace, even though there was very little conflict between them. She was also given new clothing by the tribes, seeing as she would overheat in the clothes she brought with her to Sauria. Nonetheless, the Cerinian was happy on her new home.
One day, Krystal had received a distress signal from Krazoa Palace. Krazoa Palace was a place where the Krazoa were worshipped, and it was implied to be the area where the mythical SpellStones, which kept Sauria together, were created. The cobalt vixen took off on Kyte, riding through the sky in the rain. After a few minutes, Krystal saw something flying in the sky alongside her and Kyte. The cobalt vixen had sensed it moments prior, and even sensed threats near it. That was when it came into view: a flying ship that could spit fireballs.
"Krystal, do you see it?" Kyte asked.
"Yes," Krystal said, "I sensed it before it came into view. It's a SharpClaw ship, all right."
"No doubt," the CloudRunner said, "it's the Galleon! General Scales must be on it!"
"Scales?" The cobalt vixen asked.
"I take it you've heard of him?" The flying female asked.
"I've met someone named Scales," the Cerinian said, "but it's probably a coincidence. The General is probably his brother, due to how he mentioned having a brother when I met him. Then again, I was only six when I met him."
"Interesting, now get ready to dodge!"
The Galleon shot fireballs at Krystal and Kyte, but the two managed to dodge them. In addition to that, they made it to the deck of the ship in record time. Once they reached it, Krystal climbed off of Kyte, reaching into the bag the CloudRunner was wearing on her side. The cobalt vixen then pulled out her staff, holding it with a determined look on her face.
"If I were to lose this," Krystal told Kyte, regarding her staff, "promise that you would catch it as it was falling from the sky."
"I'll be flying through the sky," Kyte said, "so I'll catch your staff if it falls."
"Be careful," the cobalt vixen warned, "I don't want you to get hurt. After all, the CloudRunner tribe would fall into chaos if their Princess died."
"Same for you, Krystal." The CloudRunner said before she flew off.
Now that she was alone, Krystal could sense some SharpClaws coming her way. With no time to spare, she engaged some of them into a fight. Even though they were larger than the cobalt vixen, the SharpClaw soldiers were ultimately slower than her. After trading some blows with her staff, the former Princess of Cerinia fired blasts from it, killing the SharpClaw soldiers that were in her way. Once they were dead, she continued on her search through the Galleon. The distress signal was getting stronger, so Krystal could tell that she was close to Krazoa Palace. However, she could sense something else.
All of a sudden, a larger SharpClaw came out onto the deck. Krystal readied her staff for another potential battle, secretly hoping to end the next encounter without violence. However, the SharpClaw was someone she knew well. That face didn't deceive her, having remembered it from her youth.
"It's you." Krystal said.
"Hmm, I don't believe that we have met." The SharpClaw said. "However, I must ask, who are you?"
"I'm Krystal," the cobalt vixen stated, "and you?"
"General Scales, ruler and dictator of Sauria, primarily the SharpClaw tribe." He answered. "You seem a long way from home, Krystal. I take it that Cerinia was destroyed?"
"Yes," she said, "it was destroyed by Venom's army. I'm following a distress signal, before you ask why I'm here."
"The whole planet is in distress." General Scales said.
"I can tell." The Cerinian said. "Knowing that, I'm ready to save it from evil forces such as you and your SharpClaws!"
"My girl," the larger male said, "I am not evil. And, before you say anything, I still have no memory of you."
I know that he's lying. Krystal thought to herself. I can sense that he's hiding the truth from me. I can also sense a Krazoa spirit on him. I might as well get it away from him.
"However," Scales spoke as he grabbed Krystal by her neck, taking her over to the edge of the Galleon, "my tribe and I must retain control over the planet. Otherwise, the other tribes would rise up and kill us all. And no one, I mean no one, can defeat General Scales!"
Before Scales could throw Krystal off the Galleon, she screamed the following.
"Now Kyte!"
Kyte flew onto the deck of the Galleon, which distracted General Scales. Once his eyes were off of her, Krystal began to absorb the Krazoa spirit, feeling it's magic enter her. However, a shockwave threw her back, allowing her to land on Kyte. After that the cobalt vixen was ready to fly off.
"The Krazoa spirit I had!" Scales shouted. "You took it?!"
"Sorry General," Krystal triumphantly said, "you lose this round! Maybe next time!"
General Scales roared as Krystal flew off, the cobalt vixen heading to Krazoa Palace. Once he was alone, the SharpClaw looked down and shook his head.
And to think, he thought to himself, I'm pretending not to remember her. It's been thirteen years since I saw her on Cerinia, and her father was intent on marrying her off to me. The engagement isn't broken, so I shall make her my Queen when I get the chance. However, Drakor won't tolerate me taking the girl as my wife, given how we have important things in the matter.I better get back to finding the SpellStones for him.
After a minute, Scales went to the upper deck of the Galleon, intent on making his next move.
Meanwhile, Krystal was riding to Krazoa Palace on Kyte.
"So, you got a Krazoa spirit?" Kyte asked.
"Yes." Krystal said, looking more uninterested than happy.
"What's wrong?" The Princess of the CloudRunner tribe asked. "Was General Scales the same Scales you spoke about earlier?"
"Yes," the cobalt vixen, "it was him. He's really changed from the last time I saw him. I was six when I met him, but I easily recognized his face. He told me that he didn't know me, but I knew that he was lying. I could remember the day we met so well."
Krystal snuck onto a ship from Venom, seeing the fruits that were in a crate. The crate wasn't closed, so the cobalt pup was able to take a few fruits out of there. Before she could eat any of them, she heard someone shout.
"Stop right there, you little thief!"
Looking up, Krystal saw a monkey and an alligator. These two were soldiers from Venom, and they were ready to shoot her.
"No, don't!" Krystal defended herself. "I didn't mean to steal! Really, I didn't! I'm just hungry!"
"That's a lie, young lady!" The alligator yelled.
"And we're keeping you here until further notice!" The monkey harshly said.
"What's going on here?"
A muscular lizard walked in, dressed in the same clothing of the soldiers. Krystal could tell that he wasn't a native to Venom. In fact, the lizard was a SharpClaw, one of the tribes native to Sauria. However, unlike the SharpClaws Estelle had mentioned, he had a peaceful look on his face.
"Nothing, Private Scales, head back to your post." The monkey said.
"We're punishing this little thief," the alligator said, regarding Krystal, "if you couldn't tell."
"What did she do?" Scales asked.
"She was in that crate of fruits we brought with us." The first soldier said.
"But I wasn't stealing!" Krystal cried. "Please don't hurt me, I'm only six!"
"That's enough from you, brat!" The second soldier shouted, pointing his blaster at her.
"Give her to me." Scales said.
Lowering their weapons, the two soldiers left the room. Scales than approached Krystal, giving her a stern look.
"You know that thieves are punished by having their hands cut off, right?" He asked.
"I know," Krystal said, "but I'm not a thief. Don't let them do that to me, I was just hungry."
"Hungry enough to steal fruit?" Scales asked.
"My father refused to feed me for an entire month." The cobalt pup said.
"In that case, you can eat the fruits you grabbed." The SharpClaw said.
"Really?" The Princess of Cerinia said.
"Indeed," he stated, "and I'll take you home when you get done, okay?"
"I understand." She said prior to eating the fruit. "Thank you, mister."
"Wow, Scales sure was different back in the day!" Kyte said.
"Yes," Krystal said, "I just wasn't hoping that my father didn't use Scales' act of kindness as an excuse to marry me off to him."
"Man, your father must've been a bad guy!" The CloudRunner said.
"I've told you about him, haven't I?" The cobalt vixen asked.
"Yeah, several times." The flying Saurian said.
"Well, I'll tell you more about him sometime, we're here." The Cerinian said as she saw Krazoa Palace.
Kyte landed near the entrance of Krazoa Palace, which allowed Krystal to enter. Once she was inside, the cobalt vixen traveled through the hallways, looking for a shrine where she would return the Krazoa spirit she took from Scales. Upon finding a shrine, Krystal released the spirit, allowing it to return to its rightful place. However, that didn't stop it from speaking to her.
"Krystal Bodimead of Cerinia," the spirit said, "you have returned me to Krazoa Palace. Why is that?"
"I've returned you here because I was responding to a distress signal from this place." Krystal said. "The whole planet is in distress, as I heard."
"Yes," the Krazoa spoke, "the SpellStones have been removed from their rightful place, and my fellow Krazoa have went missing. Without them, Sauria will be destroyed. That is, unless someone is able to find them."
"I'll do it, in defense of Sauria." The cobalt vixen said.
"You cannot do this alone, dear girl." The spirit told her. "You need an ally or more in order to save Sauria. From this point on, not even your staff will be enough."
"You're right," the Cerinian said, "I'll try to get help. I promise, I won't let you down!"
"You're a good person, Krystal." The Krazoa said.
Blushing, Krystal left the palace and met up with Kyte. The CloudRunner was surprised by the Cerinian's determined look.
"You look cool, Krystal!" Kyte said.
"Thanks," Krystal said, "now come on, we're going to save Sauria!"
"By ourselves?" The CloudRunner asked.
"No," the cobalt vixen said, "we're going to gather allies!"
Note: She's not in a gem, and she's ready to save the day! Like I said before, a lot of things will be retconned and changed, so it won't be the same Star Fox Adventures that Nintendo had given us. Also, while I'm here, what did you guys think about this chapter? Tell me when you leave a review or constructive criticism. Until next time guys, this is Newcomer24, signing off. Peace!
