Hi everyone. Sorry for the year long silence. Just had some stuff going on and I haven't been overly motivated to write anything whether it's my book on wattpad or fanfiction. But hopefully now with this story I can't get back into updating my other stories. Thanks for the patience and hopefully you enjoy the new fic.
(NOTE: There is a comment on chapter updates and rewrites at the end of this fic for my other works)
Is the Dark all Dark?
Chapter 1
Harry was silent as he sat on the edge of his bed, running his fingers through his hair in frustration. His Uncle Vernon had already warned him about what would happen if he didn't make himself scarce during their little dinner party with an important client from his uncle's work. He glanced at Hedwig's cage, knowing that she was feeling just as cramped as him since they'd gotten back from Hogwarts. He sighed before he leaned back on his bed, closing his eyes in frustration. Hedwig watched him before she rested her head under her wing in an attempt to sleep for the night. Harry rolled over on his stomach and looked at the picture of his parents with a small smile. A suddenly pop startled him, sending him tumbling to the floor. He stared at the house elf wide eyed, his mind instantly going back to his second year with Dobby.
"Master Harry sir, my name be Izzy. I be personal elf to Late Lady Potter." The female house elf squeaked, bowing before the young wizard. Harry frantically glanced towards the door hoping his uncle hadn't heard anything downstairs.
"You can't be here." Harry whispered, quickly scrambling to his feet. He stepped towards the elf, hoping she would leave. She stood in silence watching him.
"Izzy bring Master Harry a gift from Lady Lily." Izzy stated, snapping her fingers to summon a small bundle. She carefully stepped around Harry and placed it on his pillow before she offered him a small smile.
"Lady Lily would be proud of Master Harry." She stated softly before she popped out of the room. Harry stood looking at the spot she had just occupied before he turned his attention to the small package she had left on his bed. He slowly walked over, picking it up. His heart swelled at the tight of his mother's handwriting on the front of the envelope. His vision blurred for a minute quickly wiping the tears that had gathered there. He turned over the ivory envelope, looking at what he guessed was the Potter seal. He sucked in a deep breath, wondering just what his mother could have possibly planned ahead for.
'My Darling Harry,
As I sit by the fire attempting to write this letter I can't help but wish there was some way to survive this war, but when you're nothing more than a pawn on Dumbledore's chess board he always has a million plans all for what he calls the greater good. I wish I could have gotten to see the young man you grew up to be and that Sirius didn't spoil you with too many pranks. Merlin knows he is just an overgrown child himself. However, I also hope he respected our wishes that we left in our wills. But…knowing the hate he has for his family I doubt he would have told you or…your family the truth. Which is why I have tasked my personal elf, Izzy with delivering this letter to you on the day of your 14th birthday.
Harry the reason I am writing you this letter and waiting until you're about to enter your 4th year is because I know it wasn't the right thing to do. Our son Alexander had only been a couple months old when he passed away during the night. So, when Dumbledore showed up at Potter Manor it wasn't very hard for him to convince us to take you in. And of course, once Dumbledore convinced James that we were doing the right thing by taking in an orphaned child of a death eater…there was no going back. I can't tell you how many times I attempted to reach out once I learned just who your mother and father were. However, my letters always returned unopened meaning either they turned my letters away or something stopped them from reaching them. I want you to know that no matter who's baby you were James and I loved you so very much.
The trust is my darling baby is that your biological parents are Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. I understand that this must seem like a cruel joke but it's the truth. While we've been in hiding I haven't had the chance to read the Daily Prophet very often so I'm not sure of his name, but I do know you have a twin brother. I truly hope this doesn't ruin the relationship you have with Sirius because your Godfather does love you so much. If you don't want the truth out I understand because this is a major change but if you feel up to it Sirius is Narcissa's cousin so I'm sure he'd have a way to contact them.
Love with all my heart
Lily'
The letter fluttered to the ground; Harry's eyes wide with tears. His hands shook as he attempted to understand what his mother, what Lily had left him. A much softer pop startled him, gaining his attention. Izzy stood looking at the young wizard. Her large blue eyes held pity and sorrow for her young master, understanding he was hurting.
"This…this can't be true. The Malfoys can't stand me. Draco hates me and Lucius wants me dead." Harry whispered. The house elf stepped forward, pressing her small hands against his own. He jerked his head towards the door when he heard his uncle's voice, fearing he had been louder than he meant to be. He reached over flipping the light off before he laid on his bed, jerking the blanket over his head when his uncle seemed to stop outside his door. He held his breath as he listened, hoping his uncle wouldn't come into his room. Vernon seemed to stop outside of the door for a moment but continued down the hall towards his own bedroom. Harry released the breath he'd been holding before he glanced around the room for the house elf. Izzy appeared next to his bed, a concerned look on her face as she looked up at her young master.
"Izzy left letter for Lord Malfoy. He should read in morning before travelling Diagon Alley." The female house elf explained, tilting her head slightly at the distraught look the settled onto Harry's face.
"No. No Izzy you can't. Didn't you hear me? The Malfoys hate me. Finding out I'm apparently their lost child isn't going to change any of that." Harry once again attempted to explain, no longer being careful about keeping his voice down. Both boy and magical creature jerked their attention to the door when it was suddenly thrown open. Vernon stood in the doorway; his dark eyes narrowed as he glared at his nephew. Izzy quickly placed her hand on her boy's arm, snapping her fingers. Harry closed his eyes at the sudden sensation that made him feel like he was free falling from his broom.
"Master Harry can open his eyes now." Izzy stated, the amusement evident in her voice. He barely cracked one of his eyes open, glancing around to take in his surroundings. He was standing in the center of the Leaky Cauldron that was connected to the main entrance to Diagon Alley.
"Mr. Potter, what are you doing here so late at night?" Tom, the shop owner questioned, stepping out from behind the bar.
"Master Harry would like room for the evening sir." Izzy stated, looking up at the older wizard. The shop owner simply offered the teenager a smile before he raised his wand, summoning one of the available room keys.
"You can have room 10 for the night on me. Just let me know if you need any additional nights." Tom stated. Harry slowly reached out, gripping the key tightly in his hand, offering a nod. He still didn't fully trust himself to speak, feeling like his heart was going to jump out of his chest with how fast it was beating.
"Master Harry rest. Izzy will be back in morning." The small house elf stated sternly looking up at the teenager once they were in the room. Harry managed a small nod, watching as the small elf snapped her fingers again, his trunk and personal items appearing in the far corner of the room close to the wardrobe. Once she was gone he crawled into the bed, falling asleep nearly as soon as his head hit the pillow.

Lucius yawned as he stepped into his office, reaching up to run his fingers through his long hair. He knew that he still had about an hour before breakfast with his family, but he wanted to try and get some work done before taking Draco to Diagon Alley to get his school supplies for his up coming fourth year at Hogwarts. His gaze momentarily drifted to the portrait hanging behind his desk. It was a painting he'd had commissioned shortly after his sons' birth. Narcissa sat in the chair in front of him, each of them holding a baby.
"Lord Malfoy." One of his house elf squeaked, dropping into a low bow once he had the eldest Malfoy's attention.
"Get on with it elf." He sighed, crossing his arms as he watched the elf stutter over his words. The elf released another squeak before holding up the letter Izzy had left during the night. Lucius frowned for a moment before he took the letter. The elf quickly popped out of the room once his master had sat in his chair, holding the parchment in his hands. His expression changed from annoyance to confusion to anger the further down the letter he read.
"Darling? Breakfast is ready but Mipsy said you were busy?" Narcissa questioned, gently knocking on the door. She pushed it open when she didn't receive a response from her husband, growing worried at his silence. A frown graced her features when she saw him engrossed in the letter.
"What's that? Something from one of the other lords?" she questioned, walking over to his desk. She stepped around it, resting her hands on his shoulders, hoping to gain his attention.
"A letter from Lily Potter." Lucius responded without giving his wife his full attention.
"Darling are you alright? It's impossible for Lily to have written a letter. She's been dead for 14 years." Narcissa stated, a concerned frown once again appearing on her face. Lucius released a small chuckle at his wife's bluntness.
"Apparently she left it with her house personal house elf Izzy. Harry got one similar last night shortly after midnight. He was blood adopted by the Potters almost a year before their deaths. Dumbledore brought them the baby during the night, asking them to take him in." Lucius explained. He hoped his wife would be able to put the pieces together. Narcissa jerked her hand back as if she'd been burned as she listened to her husband.
"Is this some cruel joke? How do we even know the letter was actually written by her?" she demanded, her pureblood emotionless mask slipping onto her face.
"I did the spells Narcissa. It's coated in her magic. And it says Dumbledore brought them our son. Our son has been alive this entire time. Don't you understand? That explains why the Dark Lord couldn't kill him that All Hallows Eve." Lucius explained. He stood up, letting the parchment fall to his desk as he grabbed her hands carefully in his own. She looked up at him, her eyes searching his own for even a sliver of doubt. They had longed for nearly 12 years for their missing son to be returned to them but slowly they'd started to lose hope.
"Lucius…this just…seems like too much of a coincidence. Why this year? Why now? Hogwarts starts back in just a few weeks. The Dark Lord's plans are finally being put into action. And suddenly Dumbledore's chosen one is said to be our missing child? Why do you believe this so easily?" she questioned.
"Why don't you? Why is it so hard to believe that maybe our son was a lot closer than we thought? That would explain why Draco got so angry at his rejection of friendship their first year. It explains why Harry has the parsel-tongue ability that has never been seen in the Potter line." Lucius explained. Narcissa simply shook her head, giving her husband a sad look.
"I can't let myself believe, my darling. I can't let myself have that hope just for it to be crushed all over again. We still have one son, and we should be thankful for that. I'm going to go meet Draco in the dining room. Please don't be much longer in here." She stated. She gently squeezed his hand before slipping out of the room silently. Lucius stood in the middle of his office, staring after her. He knew he would have to find hard proof to convince her since it was clear that her mind was made up on the matter.
"Mipsy, inform …Harry to meet me at Gringotts in a two hours." He stated firmly, not waiting for the elf to appear.

Harry groaned softly as he opened his eyes, glancing around the room for a moment confused. However the longer he laid there the actions from the night before became clearer.
"Mister Harry sir, Lord Lucius Malfoy requests that you meet him at Gringotts in two hours. My Lord does not like to be kept waiting." A house elf stated, startling the teenager. He stared at her for a moment, his gaze lingering on the uniform she wore, something that was vastly different from what Dobby had worn his second year. The elf disappeared before he was able to find his words, clearly annoyed at his silence.
"Izzy…are you here?" he finally questioned, glancing around the room for the house elf that was said to belong to his mother. The familiar house elf popped into view, holding a tray of food, and offering him a kind smile.
"Don't mind Mipsy. She be the Malfoy head elf and take her duty very serious." She explained as she laid the food on the bed. Harry managed a stiff nod as he pushed himself up onto his elbows, looking down at the hot food.
"Eat up and get ready. I will prepare clothes to meet Lord Malfoy." She happily stated, either oblivious to the distraught look on his face or ignoring it. Harry felt his stomach churn at the thought of meeting with the man that had wanted to harm him at the end of his second year. His mind supplied that this man was technically his father and he should at least hear him out.
"You have to wear uniform robes for now. We shop after meeting." Izzy stated a distasteful look on her face as she looked through the clothes in his trunk.
"I…I can't get nicer things. My…relatives will just throw a fit about having better things than Dudley." He whispered, looking down at his lap. He balled his hands into the blanket.
"You no return to horrible home." Izzy snapped; her large blue eyes narrowed in anger at the thought of those muggles.
Once Harry had managed to eat enough of the breakfast to satisfy Izzy he slipped into the bathroom to take a quick bath and change. He leaned his head back against the wall with his eyes closed, taking the moment of silence to think about just what he could expect once he walked into that bank.
"Master Harry sir, we must go. We not be late." Izzy stated, knocking her small hand against the door to gain his attention without intruding.
Out in Diagon Alley the shops were just beginning to open so there weren't too many people around. Harry released a deep breath from under his cloak, calming slightly about a lesser chance of losing his cloak or running into someone he knew. Izzy walked next to him the entire time under a notice me not charm, occasionally glancing at her young master. She hoped the meeting with Lord Malfoy went well because she refused to let him return to those horrible muggles for the rest of his summer.
"Who do I ask for? Mr. Malfoy didn't tell me just how I was supposed to locate him." Harry whispered as he pulled the cloak off, slipping into the bank. Izzy glanced around, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Wizard Lord.
"Mister Potter, a pleasure to see you." A sharp voice stated behind them. Harry quickly jumped, turning around to come face to face with a goblin. He thought he recognized him from his very first visit to Gringotts but since it had been a while he wasn't completely sure.
"If I could have a moment of your time, Gringotts has been attempting to reach you for nearly the entire summer." The goblin continued, ignoring the startled look on the child's face. Harry glanced around, hoping to catch a glimpse of Mr. Malfoy, quickly giving the goblin his attention when he cleared his throat in annoyance.
"If you could follow me to my office young heir, I do wish to speak with you over an important matter pertaining to your parents' wills." He stated, turning on his heel to walk down one of the nicer hallways opposite the wall to the vaults. Izzy looked up at Harry, gesturing with her hand to follow the goblin.
"But what about meeting with my…Mr. Malfoy? He will be mad if we keep him waiting." Harry whispered as they walked. He glanced over his shoulder one last time before stepping into the room that the goblin gestured to.
"Thank you Mr. Potter. Now my name is Griphook, and I am the account manager for the Potter Family. We recently did a major audit of several of our…higher ranking vaults. Yours produced several concerns pertaining to monthly deductions to four different vaults. One Vault is linked to the names of Petunia and Vernon Dursley, another is under the name of Hermione Granger, and one is connected to Ronald, Guinevere, and Molly Weasley. Each receive a sum of 2,000 gallons every two months along with smaller transactions at the beginning of each Hogwarts school year." Griphook explained. Harry sucked in a deep breath at hearing that his friends were receiving large amounts of money from his vault, making him wonder just how true of friends they actually were.
"I don't understand. Why…who…" Harry stuttered, feeling like his stomach was suddenly in his throat. Tears prickled his eyes, quickly reaching up to wipe them away.
"Who authorized these transactions?" a new voice suddenly questioned. Harry jerked his head up, his green eyes wide as he stared at Mr. Malfoy. Lucius briefly glanced at the boy before turning his attention back to the goblin.
