Standing up for Gryffindor


Privately, I have always thought that Professor McGonagall needed to go to Dumbledore and tell him about the childish bullying Snape was inflicting on Gryffindor.


Albus Dumbledore looked up from his paperwork as a sharp knock sounded at the door to his private office. He wandered who had figured out the riddle to his gargoyle entrance to his study, the answer to the riddle was 'Toffee Pops'.

"You may enter" said Dumbledore as the ornate golden handle of the door crashed open loudly and a hot-headed Professor McGonagall stormed into his office, stamping her foot with each step she took towards him.

"I shall not tolerate this! It is outrageous! How can someone be so utterly idioticly childish! Unacceptable behaviour! How dare- How dare that man-"

"Minerva, please take a seat and for God sake women, calm down and let us discuss this like grownups and not throw tantrums in the middle of my study."

Professor McGonagall sighed and with a deep breath counted to ten in her head to relax her rage. 1…2…3…4…5…6…7…8…9…10, done she had chilled down. She made a mental note to herself which promised to never ever throw a tantrum. Infront of the headmaster at least; that had been extraordinarily embarrassing.

Dumbledore spoke, "What has caused your outrage, Minerva?"

"Severus has never treated Gryffindor well, he removes points for the slightest reason, gives out detentions like presents and generally picks on them the most, but today it was the last straw. His quidditch players literally cursed Angelina Johnson and when told about it, he blamed it on the Gryffindors and didn't even punish his own house"

The anger she had tried so hard to conceal shot out.

She picked up a beautifully carved, silver instrument that had a series of purple smoke wafting through it, and threw it powerfully at the wall, it smashed into a million pieces and the portraits on the wall protested noisily.

She screeched, "That blasted, biased, evil, ghastly, tempered, savage, self-absorbed, a-"

"I highly advise that you do not finish that sentence and not insult your fellow staff member." Dumbledore said calmly.

He continued, "I understand your rage, but I repeat again, throwing a tantrum in the middle of my study is not the way grownups deal with their problems"

He looked straight at her, those piercing blue eyes staring deep into her soul and then he softened. He knew that she was only doing this because she cared immensely about her own houses safety and health, besides, all the things she had said about Severus were true.

"I'm sorry I shouted, Albus"

"No need to apologise."

"Thanks"

"Is there anything else you wish to discuss?"

"Are you going to talk about it to Severus?"

"No, I think that if I talk to him then it won't make it any better"

"Why not?"

"He will still hate them but he will not show it."

"Isn't that a good thing?"

"No, his anger and hatrid will build up in his mind, it will not help."

"Thanks- Thanks for listening to me Albus"

Professor Dumbledore didn't reply, instead, he gave a smile and turned his head back to his paperwork. A few seconds later, the door quietly shut and a peaceful silence was left in the room.
