Code Geass: An Oath of Revenge

Year 2009. While Japan is being invaded by the Holy Empire of Britannia, Emperor Charles is purging many families of the old nobility, last obstacle left between him and the consolidation of his power. Among those is the House of Galahad-Canossa, whose members are banished from Britannia, leaving it for the EUR. The young heir, Giulio Galahad-Canossa, however, vows revenge.

1. Preface

Dear readers,

I started working at this fanfiction long ago as a joke with a friend of mine, with whom I share the interest in the Code Geass saga. However, as I soon realised that there was potential for something interesting, I thought of developing it into a more structured. Ever since, I made many attempts at finding a satisfactory arrangement, working, reworking and re-reworking it, publishing and then retreating it many times, as every time I felt there was something missing.

As you will see, this fanfiction presents some important variations from the Canon mostly in the world-building, largely a result of my obsession, if we can call it this way, in trying to create a more coherent Alternative History and in harmonising the different elements that sometimes, I felt, in the Canon did not make much sense. I nonetheless hope that the most orthodox fans of the saga will like it and won't get overly upset over such variations.

To now talk more specifically about the story, this is Part I of a serie of three more stories, which are already in my mind and that are just waiting to be developed, based on what I already did. From now already, I want to make clear that I have no intention to offend anyone and if you see any element that you feel it may hurt, in some way, your sensitivity, do understand that they are characteristics of this world or of the characters and not attempts by the author at offending you or anyone else. This being said, I want to already clarify some points:

a) I use the Gregorian Calendar, not the A.T.B. one. I just realised that the A.t.B. calendar was making things more unnecessarily confused and complicated, so I completely dropped it.

b) Though I really like Code Geass, I have a complicated relationship with mechas. At some point, in one of my previous experiments, I even tried to remove them completely, but then I realised that I would be removing a key element of the story. So I have decided to keep them, but to rationalise their presence, as you will see.

c) Many elements that differ from the Canon, as you will see, come from the changes in the TL that I have made in this scenario. For example, I mention, already in the next chapter, the existence of a Second Britannian Civil War equivalent to the American one of our TL, but won by the South. All of such changes will have their own reason and you will find it out, I am preparing also an "Atlas", so to say, with the history of the main country, so should there be interest, I may end up also publishing it.

d) Please, do keep in mind that this story has also been published on WattPad, which has a different format than this website, for instance, allowing the upload of images, which has allowed me, on certain occasions, to rely on maps, which unfortunately I won't be able to use here. I'll try my best, in those cases, to make the topography understandable.

This being said, I hope you will enjoy the reading. This is a work in progress, so you are definitely encouraged to provide me feedback and tell what is good, what should improve, if there are narration holes and any other issue that you may find. Ad maiora!
