The Four Nations

By PurpleReignonHorses

Authors Note: I've had an idea to write an Avatar fanfiction that was a bit lighter in tone compared to the Last Firebender. Just to spread the ideas out! This is a college AU where Aang and his friends are just college kids trying to make in this crazy world. Pairings are Kataang, Sukka, Maiko and Satoph

Ba Sing Se University- Entrance

Aang put his Ford GT slowly into his usual parking spot. He then let out a sigh of relief. "Finally made it on time." He then kicked in the doors and started walking down the halls. Aang looked around and to the left. Philosophy 101. Here we go. He and Teo were jogging and dancing along to NSYNC and repeating the lyrics in their heads. The young men then heard a bit of commotion down the hall. They ran down to the hall to see Katara and Sokka arguing with Ruong Jiang and his friends.

Sokka pointed his finger into the firebender's chest and glared. "You stay away from my sister or I swear I will break that perfect jawline of yours."

Katara glanced over at her older brother and half-smiled. Sokka had always proved himself as a good person in her life. The guy was a freaking dolt and sometimes his sarcastic attitude and constant questions about her life pissed her to no end. But for all his faults, Sokka loved her and would do anything to protect her. She always found that endearing about his character. He was probably the only guy she trusted in her life. He was the only one she allowed to reign herself in when she got upset or angry. Not that she needed the protection anyway. She glanced up at the towering firebender with a glare in her eyes. "I'd advise you to take Sokka's threat seriously Ruong. He's being nice about it. I won't be. My method involves a lot more pain." The woman grit her teeth in anger.

Ruong just half-smirked with a cocky look in his eyes. "Is that so?" He then motioned for his boys to back him up. "There are six of us and only two of you. You can't possibly think you can take on us all."

Aang then turned to his little brother and lightly punched him in the shoulder. "Looks like we are needed."

The other brother smiled. "You are correct Aang." The two airbenders then sent a gust of wind powerful enough to get the firebenders' attention but not strong enough to harm them.

Katara and Sokka, along with the others, turned to look their way.

Aang then spoke in a sarcastically dark manner. "Ruong…you never quit do you?"

Ruong instantly glowered when he saw Aang. "This doesn't concern you Aang. Butt out or I'll burn that little brother of yours again."

Aang glowered and stepped in front of his brother. "I dare you to try." Aang was a Nomad through and through but he wasn't a pushover. He and Ruong had history. A lot of it was bad. Most of it had to do with Teo and a certain incident that happened some years back.

Teo, meanwhile, just cowered behind his brother and just turned his head away from him.

Aang scowled. "Go now before I get angry. You know what will happen then."

Ruong just scoffed, shaking his head. Damn it. This just got complicated. I can't fight all of them out here. I will get expelled for sure. He sighed and facepalmed. "Fine!" He then glared at Katara. "I will get you back. It is only a matter of time." He and his posse then walked off in a hurry.

Katara mumbled under her breath with a glare. "Sure you will." She knew if that asshole got near her again…she'd stick an icicle where the sun don't shine. That was a promise she made to herself long ago. She then sent a wary glance Aang's way. "My brother and I had the situation handled. You didn't need to get involved."

Aang visibly cringed and took a few steps back. Okay. She definitely isn't a people person. He then bowed. "My sincerest apologies. As Air Nomads, my brother and I felt obligated to help."

Sokka raised an eyebrow at the airbender. "Hmm. Airbender you say?" He put an arm around his sister's shoulder chuckling. "Katara lay off the guy. He was just trying to help us out. You and I both know that Ruong and his gang of pricks would've been a bit too much for us. Not to mention we both would have gotten suspended. You know I can't afford another mark on my record."

Katara just huffed indignantly and shook her head. "Whatever."

Sokka then sent Aang an apologetic look. "Ah..sorry for my sister's cold reception. She can be a bit of a frosty one." He then offered the airbender a hand. "I appreciate the assistance there. Who are you?"

Aang, grateful for his warm reception and words, shook his hand. "Aang Tsung. I hail from the Southern Air Temple." He then turned to his brother. "Teo. It is okay. You can come out from behind me. Ruong can't hurt you."

The young freshman just nodded and timidly got out from Aang's back.

Aang then turned to Sokka with a warm smile and gestured to Teo. "This is Teo. My little brother."

Katara sent Aang another questioning look. Maybe he isn't too bad. He seems awfully protective of his little brother. Just like Sokka.

"Come on Teo. Introduce yourself."

Teo then extended a hand. He offered Sokka a warm smile. "Hi…I'm Teo. I'm a new freshman here."

Sokka shook his hand and smirked. "Good to meet you kid. My name is Sokka Kesuk. That quiet grumpy girl over there is my younger sister Katara." He then turned over to Katara and grumbled. "Katara..at least introduce yourself to our new friends here. Don't be rude."

Katara hissed irritatingly. "Fine!" She knew if she didn't…Sokka would chide her on it. The last thing he needed was more ammunition on her. She then walked up to Aang, determined to look away from his face, and offered a hand with a long sigh. She felt her cheeks heat up. I don't know what to think about him. He is a mystery. "I'm…Sokka's sister Katara Kesuk. It is a pleasure to meet you."

Aang smiled in relief. Glad this is less awkward at least. He felt himself blush a bit.

The woman, despite her rather cold and bitter exterior, was rather breathtaking. She had lovely azure eyes that probably held in a lot of anger. Add in beautiful long hair that flowed majestically to her shoulders and the woman was a knockout. Aang supposed it made enough sense. He and Teo were very chill and freedom loving people by their nature. They were very forgiving and it took a lot to actually get either of them upset. He had heard that people from the Water Tribes were…different. It wasn't that they weren't kind but they were known to be more temperamental in nature compared to his own people. Either way…he wasn't going to judge. Everyone had their limits. He then shook the woman's hand with a warm smile. "Aang Tsung and the little guy behind me is my little brother Teo Tsung."

Katara just nodded blankly. "A pleasure." She then shook Teo's hand as well. The woman then turned to her brother with an annoyed look. "Don't we have a class to get to Sokka?"

Sokka nervously chuckled. "Ah…yea..that." He then took his sister by the arm and began walking them to Psychology 101. "We'll..have to catch up with you two later. We have to get to Psychology 101 in like…fifteen minutes."

Aang raised his hand. "Hey wait up! My brother and I are going that way anyway! We have the same class! Just follow us!" He and Teo then walking over to Psychology 101.

Sokka then just shrugged. "Works for me." He then started following them.

Katara followed after him with a raised eyebrow. Something was oddly perplexing to her about Aang and Teo. There seemed to be an air of chillness around the two of them that she couldn't seem to understand. I'm going to figure those airbenders out if it kills me!
