The blond frowned at his phone. It was, somehow, five AM. One more day of freedom and then back to the same shit. Not that these days of "freedom" were that great either.
He tossed the device back onto the pillow beside him and continued to gaze up at the tv lightened ceiling. Nothing was worth doing. Nothing changed. Every single day was exactly the same. Going to bed each day with the same thoughts as yesterday upon waking. A pointless march through time. He couldn't even fucking kill himself, he would just come back in a few days or so.
He clenched his fist for a few brief moments before releasing it. Getting angry about it didn't change anything. He exhaled slowly, eyes drifting closed. He could sleep. A few hours. No..., that would mess up his sleep schedule for work. Grudgingly, he opened his eyes again and reached for his phone. He unlocked it deftly and flipped to one of the mobile games he had recently started playing. That occupied him for a few minutes before he was finished with what he could do for the time being and he closed the app and locked his phone again. Sitting up and crossing his legs the way they all learned in grade school, Kenny glanced at the tv which was playing old episodes of Family Guy before he grabbed his phone yet again and unlocked it, this time browsing Facebook.
It didn't take long for that to become boring as well and he closed the app and locked his phone once more, setting it on the bed beside him. He gazed at the tv without really registering what was going on in the show. Trying to decide on something to do. Anything. But as it had been for the last several hours, nothing was interesting or worth doing. None of the games he had, despite ones he had yet to even open more than once or even in the last two weeks that he had been overjoyed by.
Slowly, ever so slowly, just as he had known it would, depression was creeping back into his life. He couldn't shake it, no amount of video games, his favorite foods, novels, music, or friends could cease it's descent. He had felt it's slow crawl towards him, over him. For a while though, it had been kind of nice. He hadn't been disinterested in everything 80% of the time. If only he could maintain that style.
As he always wonders when it begins to get bad again, he wonders if medication would help this problem. He's wondered before as well, but being currently without a therapist or even regular doctor, the notion is dismissed immediately.
'Can this really be considered the beginning?' he snorts to himself and looks about his room for the can of soda he had been drinking. Still cold, he raises the can to his lips and takes a long swig before replacing it on the shelf next to his bed.
He unfolds his legs and lays back again, adjusting so he's not laying on his Psyduck plush that's always in the bed with him. He wraps an arm around the plushie and tugs a blanket over himself in a half-assed way. He lays there, gazing up at the ceiling once more. He's tired, vaguely, but not enough to warrant actually going to sleep.
Lazily, he unlocks his phone once more and this time, scrolls a few of the discord servers he's a part of. Not much interesting happening there though and he closes the app before opening facebook once more. He scrolls that a little longer than before, finding a nice cat "reel" and sending it to Stan and Kyle. He knows they're both probably asleep, or maybe Stan is at work, he can never remember what days the other man works. He closes the apps and locks his phone before tugging the blanket off and placing Psyduck back down on the pillow, sitting up once more and grabbing his offbrand switch pro controller. Turning it on, he hits the menu button and stares at the games he's got downloaded, unsure of which one he wants to resume. Eventually, he settled on Shining Pearl, he had finally gotten the seventh badge, the puzzle had been frustrating but the final battle a cakewalk. His team was dangerously over-leveled from too much time in the grand underground and farming cash. Even so, he was still concerned about how his team would fare once he reached the elite four and champion. He had heard horror stories regarding the champion.
Soon, he laid on his stomach as he played the game, glancing at his phone for the walkthrough he was using to find the stupid lake that he had, somehow, missed the entrance of on his way back from the town. After that, it was a fun trip back to his favorite town(only because it had the mega store), to fight the bad guys of the story. He descended the stairs of the building in the game and saved it, setting his controller aside and rolling onto his back to look at his phone, flipping to facebook once more.
Those relatively few minutes and he was already itching to do something else. Not because he wasn't enjoying the game, but he just suddenly didn't want to sit there anymore.
Grumbling, he closed the app and locked his phone before pocketing it and getting out of bed to go to the kitchen for a snack. It was a short walk and soon he was pawing through the freezer, he had gotten groceries only yesterday, but none of the food looked terribly appetizing. He sighed and grabbed a couple of burritos before heating them and carrying them back to his room. He sat on the bed again and changed the Switch screen from the game to Hulu for more Family Guy. He ate and absently watched the show, he had seen this episode numerous times before.
Idly, he wondered what else to do with one of his last freedom days. Nothing sounded even remotely interesting. He thought a while longer while he finished his burritos, eventually he decided he would go bother Kyle when he woke up, which was around the same general time most days. He threw his trash away and laid down once more to stare again, at the games on Switch.
