Hey everyone. So here we are the story that I finally got out. I will give credit with the help of Naito Writer, who assisted me with the editing and cleaning up my mistakes. Thanks!
Now, this story is an idea that I wanted to try out in my hand. After mulling over my head about how to go on about, well, this is the result of it. Updates will be kind of slow, but I will keep shooting one-shots to short stories to keep you all preoccupied.
I would also add if you see any errors or mistakes, I would apologize ahead on that. I did my best within what I got, so if you point something out, I will edit it out and that is it.
Now on with the tale!
Disclaimer: I don't own Danmachi, nor the characters.
So hope you all enjoy the story.
Chapter 1: Weeping Rabbit
Monsterphilia was supposed to be a day to enjoy for everyone, hosted by the Ganesha Familia. Unfortunately, today became a situation that caused panic, somehow monsters were free and running amok. As people ran to safety, Adventurer's fought the creatures before it got worse, and Ais Wallenstein was present to end it fast.
Unbeknownst to her, a certain white-haired boy and his Goddess were being chased by a Silverback. Unable to fight back, all Bell could do was get Hestia to safety, but the monster was able to find them no matter how long they ran. In order to combat it, Hestia granted him the use of a knife forged by Hephaestus meant to be given as a gift, and one more thing was allowed while they had time.
Hestia was updating his stats, surprised it jumped up again. She knew the cause and accepted it for what it was. Nearly done, she remembered a conversation with Miach about the possibility of another deity looking at his skills, or anyone with knowledge on how to read it. Not wanting that to happen, Hestia concentrated and was able to make it difficult to be read by anyone, checking it was done right before a sigh of relief was released.
Update complete, she stopped and smiled softly. "Bell, I know you will win this."
He was surprised hearing this as he felt how close she was, confidence still in her voice while adding. "Believe in me and I will take you to victory."
Bell smiled and nodded "Yes. I will." Hearing the Silverback's footsteps enter the deserted square, still looking for them.
"Okay, now go!" Hestia ordered, providing a good shove to get him started.
He ran out and charged the monster, his new knife in hand that was blessed by Hestia. Bell was able to jump onto a fist that struck the ground, using it to immediately leap and destroy the visor over its eyes. The Adventurer became shocked at how strong his weapon was and the distance he leaped.
"The stronger the wielder, the stronger the blade becomes, Bell! You can do this!" Hestia cheered for him, believing he can win.
Just as things were in his favor, Bell saw Silverback swing its chain at Hestia. She tried to avoid the attack, but it caught her side and she was sent crashing into a building.
Bell's eyes widened in horror at what he witnessed. Anger building up, he wanted to end this fight quickly to check on Hestia's condition.
An audience watched as the lone teenager fought the creature and noticed someone was hit hard going through a building. They saw the teen going right for the chest, aiming slightly low.
It struck on target to have Silverback stunned for a moment before turning into dust. Bell remembered a lesson his advisor gave, the one where you aim for a monster's Magic Stone to cause instant death.
Unfortunately, Bell couldn't celebrate, he had to check on Hestia. He prayed she was okay as he ran towards the building she ended up in. "Goddess!"
He looked around until he found her, and what he saw couldn't be believed to be true. Hestia was impaled by what looked like part of a window bar that was broken off.
"Goddess!" He rushed to help, only to stop near her and figure out what to do. "Don't worry… I'll get you to Lord Miach's pharmacy… Just hang in there…"
He was about to lift her up, but Hestia placed a hand on his cheek that stopped him. "Bell... it's okay…"
"Please don't talk... everything will be fine…"
She began to cough up blood, knowing she hasn't got long. "Bell… please…"
Hestia had enough strength to do one last thing. She pulled Bell close and kissed him, being a surprise yet he willingly accepted. Once the kiss ended, she smiled "Bell… I'm proud of you, and I love you…"
"Hestia… I love you too. Please hang in there." He begged with tears flowing.
She managed to giggle. "You called me by my name… for the first time… thank you…" Those final words said, she closed her eyes and took her last breath.
"Hestia... Hestia…" He closed his eyes, hugging her close. "Don't go…"
A brilliant white light appeared around them as Bell screamed in anguish, knowing what's going to happen.
Outside the building, a stunned Loki saw the light that meant one thing. "No…"
Ais looked on, having seen the last part of the fight, feeling sad it caused the life of a deity to be taken, wishing she had been fast enough to prevent it. People came out and were shocked while this happened.
Ais ignored them and ran to the source of the light, feeling like she needed to be there.
...
Far from them, Freya frowned. Although it will be easy to go after him, his soul now has a large black stain. A miscalculation she made, but Freya will figure a way to fix it. One way or another.
She turned to leave. "Come, Ottar." The man nearby nodded, following his Goddess without a second look back.
...
Ais found the white-haired teen on his knees, sobbing and staring up at the sky, knife close to his chest. She went over, got on a knee and placed a hand on his shoulder. It got Bell to turn, to grief stricken to care who it was as he hugged her while crying.
She wasn't good at dealing with loss, but Ais did her best by hugging him back. "It's going to be okay."
Bell didn't know what to do, being lost at this point. He didn't know where to go except home, but then what? He should've been quicker to kill the Silverback before it let loose its chain, the outcome would've been different had it been that way. "I failed her…"
She caressed his back, hoping it will help with words of comfort. "You did your best. You saved a lot of people outside."
"Why couldn't I save her… I should've been better than this! I should've been faster!" He exclaimed.
The hug ended and she gently pushed him by the shoulders to see how broken he had become. It pained her heart to see someone in this state. "Where do you live? I can take you home."
Bell got up and walked out without a word, she rushed to follow behind. The gathered crowd was happy someone defeated the monster, but it cost the life of a Goddess so there wasn't any form of cheering made. They saw how distraught Bell looked and gave him the space needed to pass.
Some people didn't know what to say while others stood in silence, many pondering what will happen to him.
Loki watched Ais follow him and decided to give the kid space. She knew whose fault it was, ready to call her out on it. With clenched teeth and a fist, Loki ran off to find her. "Damn it Freya! You've gone too far on whatever your interests are this time!"
Even though they didn't get along, Hestia didn't deserve death, and Loki intended to find out what the Goddess of Beauty's reason was for what happened.
Abandoned Church
Arriving at the ruined church, Ais opened the door to assist Bell inside, not seeing anyone, though it's a wonder anybody lives in such a state of a place, especially a Familia. Ais let Bell walk towards the altar, going right to a staircase, the blonde-haired Adventurer followed as he descended.
After they got to the end, she saw a bed, couch, and some other furniture. Bell placed his weapon on the table then went to the bed that belonged to his former Goddess, taking the pillow before he laid down on his right side and hugged it.
"Hestia…" Fresh tears emerged, remembering how happy she looked whenever he came home. She always believed in him, but now.
Ais tried to figure out what to do for him, able to recall how Riveria comforted her during times of sadness. Ais walked to the bed and laid in front of him, arms out to embrace him and caress his hair.
Bell sobbed, trying to come to terms with Hestia being sent back to Heaven.
"Shh, let it all out." She softly whispers.
This time he couldn't stop crying. Bell lost parents he never knew, only told little about by a grandfather who also passed away, and now Hestia. It made him clutch onto the pillow being soaked in tears while being comforted by the woman that he's trying to reach as equals.
…
As night was coming to Orario, a certain redheaded Goddess was able to find Freya and convince her to have a conversation at a tavern that has private rooms. Because of their Familia's reputations and Freya's beauty, Ottar stood guard outside the room.
Loki stared at Freya in a moment's silence. Although the Goddess of beauty had a half-filled glass, the trickster hadn't touched her drink, a clue on how serious she is right now. A clear head was required for this after everything that's happened. Although she knew it was Freya, a report from one of Ganesha's children during the search helped confirm it.
"I assume you had something to do with the Silverback, Freya." Loki spoke seriously with arms folded.
Freya tilted her head. "What makes you certain it was me?"
"Members of Ganesha's Familia were found charmed, monsters not killing people being coordinated, and lastly the Silverback. From what I overheard from some witnesses, it followed Hestia and the boy. A monster hasn't got a one-track mind unless it's tamed or in a trance."
She then looked at Freya with indifference. "I do recall our nice conversation about a boy you wanted. Well, you have him now."
Freya swirled her drink with a frown. "His soul is stained."
The Trickster Goddess wasn't surprised by that statement "You wanted him, but now you refuse to take him? Heh, it's almost sad that if he finds out you were involved, he'd despise you."
Freya didn't like where this was going, staring at Loki with narrowed eyes.
"Oh don't worry, that's one sin I refuse to tell him. That'll be up to you. I admit I've done some mistakes, so I'll correct them with Hestia's child. I know we weren't friends, but she didn't deserve to die. One way or another, I will make sure he'll rise from this and become strong."
After speaking her mind, Loki got up and dropped a few Valis, about to leave till one thing was worth asking. "Were you involved with a new type of plant creature that has been seen during the mayhem?"
A confused Freya stared at Loki with a raised brow. "I only found those monsters in cages, that's all. I have no idea what you're talking about with a new monster."
It made Loki sigh, now knowing an outside influence is involved, making her want to investigate further. "Very well, I'll take your word on it. See you around, Freya."
After she left, said Goddess began to think on how to fix this mess and cleanse his soul. She saw the result after Bell defeated the creature, and it made her frown at what it did to the purest soul she'd ever laid eyes on. "How to fix something broken in order to cleanse a perfect soul? I will find a way to help him one way or another, then I will make him mine."
With that said, Freya emptied her glass, paid her portion of the tab, and left also.
Abandoned church
Ais got up from bed and saw the white-haired teen asleep. It was going to be a tough time for him, but she pondered about what he should do and where he will be accepted. She might ask Loki to take him in.
The blonde's ears perked up at the sound of an unfamiliar voice, cautiously going to investigate. Once at the staircase doorway, she found a female chienthrope and a man next to her, being the latter that kindly asked. "Is Bell here?"
Ais nodded, gesturing to them to follow down. Having returned to the basement, she saw him still asleep.
"We will stay and keep an eye on him." The man said whilst his companion walked to Bell.
Not going to leave him with people she doesn't know, Ais asked with a raised brow. "Who are you?"
"Oh right, sorry for my manners. My name is Miach, and this is my child Naaza. We have known Bell for a while along with Hestia." He became saddened at the mention of his lost friend.
"Don't worry Ms. Wallenstein, he's in good hands." Naaza spoke in her God's place, gently stroking Bell's cheek.
She nodded, about to leave till she remembered to ask. "What is his name?"
Naaza answered. "Bell Cranel."
"Bell… that's a nice name." Knowing that, Ais departed for home.
Naaza stared at the sleeping teen and tilted her head. "Poor guy. It must have been tough to witness what happened to Lady Hestia."
Miach nodded. "All we can do is help the best we can."
She looked at him. "Are you planning to have him join our Familia?"
He pondered about it. "That's up to him. I won't force him to join unless he wants to."
"Fair enough." Naaza caressed his hair, taking a seat at the edge of the bed.
Miach sat on the couch and said. "I'll rest here."
She nodded. "I'll sleep on the floor."
"Why not next to him?" Miach asked as a suggestion.
Becoming sheepish, she said. "I don't want to scare him when he wakes up."
"I doubt he'll be scared of you. Just give it a try." He encourages her.
Naaza sighed in defeat. "Alright." moving to lay next to him, she closed her eyes as Miach stared at them.
"Mourn for your loss, Bell, but remember they are not gone forever." Saying it quietly before laying down to join them in a sleep that'll bring unknown dreams.
To Be Continued!
A/N: Yep. He lost his goddess and now a moment to grieve for the loss and trying to figure out his next move. I know some of the characters might be out of character, just a tinsy bit, however it is a fan fiction after all. It tends to happen from time to time.
Chapter 2 will be Bell talking to Miach, Loki inviting Bell over and a visit from the Guild. See you all next time!
Oh and don't forget to vote, I will leave it up until Saturday.
