I Really Really Really Really Want to be your Friend

"Let me tell you a love story between a dog, and a cat.
"One day, the dog saw the cat play. He stood and he stared for the longest time. Until he forgot about the world all around him. Until he was twenty minutes late for dinner.
"He watched the cat run. And jump. And spin.
"And the dog thought to himself. This cat is beautiful. He moves with grace. His eyes burn like fire.
"I know I am just a dog. But he seems so wonderful. I really really want to be his friend.
"But perhaps it is enough for me. Just to stand here. Just to see.
"Because watching him already feels so greedy.
"What more could I even want?
"And so the dog did not go to the cat. He only gazed at the cat. And the cat never turned or saw the dog standing there."
"Your story is wrong," a voice interrupted.
Sendoh looked up from the desk, and then smiled. "Maa, don't say that. Kaede-kun, I haven't finished writing it yet."
Rukawa scowled. "I don't like it."
"But it's a true story," Sendoh persisted, "It is the wonderful and true story of our forever undying love."
"It's wrong."
Sendoh's face fell a little. "But this is exactly how it happened. Don't you remember?"
Rukawa shook his head. "It's wrong. The cat saw the dog."
"No it didn't."
"Yes, it did!"
Sendoh's lips formed a small pout. He leaned forward and tilted his head, his eyes soft, his whole body imploring. The kind of soppy expression that always worked like a charm on his prickly lover. "Please listen to the whole story first."
Rukawa eyed Sendoh's pleading expression disdainfully, then folded his arms, rolled his eyes, and huffed.
Taking this for agreement, Sendoh straightened, a dopey smile appearing on his face.
"But it's still wrong," Rukawa added stubbornly.
"Ah, but Kaede-kun, can't you just..."
"No."
"But-"
"No."
"Awu~"
Yes - this is a love story. Between a dog, and a cat.
