BEFORE YOU READ THIS- Please note that this fic is 99% Naruto centric, I just need the first two chapters to settle Nanashi into the story before we hop into Naruto's POV, because there will be many differences in Canon, and these first two chapters will be the main focal point of those changes.
"To become Konoha's Strongest you must first surpass Five people. The God of Shinobi, Hashirama Senju, The Water Dragon, Tobirama Senju, The Professor, Hiruzen Sarutobi, The Yellow Flash, Minato Namikaze, and myself of course. Should you be able to defeat me, I will relinquish this hat to you, but until then I shall keep it warm for you... Naruto"
"Are you sure I cannot protect Kushina-sama, Sensei?" A Young white haired man asked.
"Kakashi, I have it handled, go out with your friends tonight, celebrate, drink a beer or two, and keep Gai out of trouble, alright? We have Lady Biwako on hand to help with an Medical needs, and some of our best guarding the entrance. Nothing will go wrong tonight."
"Be careful not to tempt faith, Minato-Sensei."
The Blonde-haired man laughed as he ushered his student out of his office, "I'll try not to anymore, Kaka-kun." He laughed even more as the young man sputtered at the use of Kushina's name for him.
As the doors finally closed, and Minato prepared to pack his things for the night, he couldn't help but curse his luck, of course, tonight of all nights, he had to tempt the Kami, no matter, he would be ready for anything. Nothing would stop him from holding his child. Nothing.
Two people were conversing as they walked through the streets of their home, One was a elderly man with a short gray beard, and a shining bald head. The other was a tall woman with long black hair who seemed to be dreading something.
"It is good that you have the ear of the Third, Nanashi. A time may come when the Uchiha shall grow to take its rightful place in this village. Having his confidence will allow our ascension to be smoother than with his opposition."
"Lord Miyako, I do not have the ear of Lord Third, he is merely an older Shinobi giving knowledge to the younger generation. Besides, the Uchiha are one of the Village Founders, we have no rightful place in this village greater than what we currently have. Not only that, but if our ancestors truly wished for us to control our home, why would they have sided with Lord Hashirama, and not Madara."
"Hmm, sometimes I wonder if they were truly wise, in throwing away Lord Madara." He sent a knowing look in her direction, daring her to refute him.
"I would be careful, Lord Miyako, your words are beginning to sound treasonous. It would be a shame if your 43 years as an Elder were cut so short, at a mere 72 years of age."
"You always we're a foolish girl, Nanashi, just like your father."
"Perhaps you should have raised your fool of a son better, then maybe I wouldn't be here to act as a thorn in your side."
She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but for some odd reason, she felt more rebellious today, it was as if there was an electric charge in the air, a lingering cloud of anger that was threatening to unleash itself on Konoha. Everyone was testier today, going off at the slightest annoyance, her fellow Jonin felt the same, even the civilians around her seemed to become nervous as the evening grew darker.
"For a half breed," the Elder interrupted her thoughts, "You sure have become a thorn in our Clans side. Imagine, not even a full blooded Uchiha, and you insult all of us with those eyes of yours."
"Perhaps you should merely train more, you are quite old for you age, but I'm sure if you put in a small bit of effort, you could-"
"Enough! Do not forget who you speak to, girl, I will speak, to Fugaku about this."
"Oh do please speak to my uncle, I'm sure he'll be glad to hear of how I'm shaming the clan by being a close confidant to Lord third."
She turned off from the man, heading down an alley way and ignoring his calls to her. She was beginning to get restless once more, she needed to take a mission soon at least while she waited for Shisui to get back, he'd be able to entertain her for the time being. Speaking of one cousin, another of her other cousins, Kushina, was pregnant and due any day now, perhaps she should visit her before the night was out, bring her some ramen that she always enjoyed. Maybe she'd finally pry from her who the Mysterious man was that she was seeing.
BOOM
The air roared around her as a thunderous explosion rocked the village. She looked to the source, a massive cloud of dust that made her think of a summons boss. But as the dust began to settle, screams erupted from those around her, it took a second to realize what now stood in the village.
The Kyuubi.
"Kushina..." The beast's roar shook the very foundations of the village, houses were shattered and debris flew through the air, people were screaming, and before she knew it, battle cries rose up from her fellow shinobi. "Right, I need to go."
She flew through the air joining in with her comrades activating her Sharingan as they raced towards the beast. She made the tiger seal as a clone popped into existence.
"Fire Style: Grand Fireball!"
"Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!"
The Wind jutsu slammed into the back of the fireball increasing the size and heat of the flames as they soared through the air, slamming into the Nine Tails. She watched as her fellow shinobi launched their own attacks, to no avail. The beast only seemed to become angrier.
"Lord Third has arrived!" a voice boomed over the battlefield. Hope blossomed in her chest at the words, and she wasn't the only one as victory cries began erupting from those around her. "Do not let up on the beast, Lord Third plans on knocking it out of the village walls! Keep it in one place! DO NOT FALTER!"
The Leaf Shinobi attacked with renewed vigor, and as she prepared to launch her own attacks, a thought occurred to her. If their lord needed the beast held in place, she could do it, but then she'd be possibly ostracized by her clan for revealing their secrets. No. Who was she kidding the Village came first, and she knew if Shisui wasn't out on a mission he would have already launched himself at the beast.
With a quick Shunshin she appeared below the beast, she wasn't sure if she'd have the height needed for her plan, but hopefully it would be enough, she pushed chakra into her eyes once more, her eyes began to spin as her Sharingan took on a new shape.
"SUSANO'O!" Bright blue chakra exploded from her, first a skeleton formed, then muscle and flesh began wrapping around itself, giving rise to the top half of a large semi armored construct. She willed her arms to move as needle like pain erupted over her body, but she held fast to her plan. Nanashi whirled her arms into motion, snagging the beast's right arm and yanking it down far enough for her to wrap her other arm around its neck. Locking the beast in place. It struggled to free itself, wrapping its tails around her waist, and locking its jaws over her neck. Cracks began to form around her armor, and she prayed for Lord Third to hurry his attack, she tried looking deep into the Beast's eyes attempting to place a Genjutsu on the Monstrosity, but her eyes exploded in pain as the chakra rebounded off of a more powerful genjutsu. It was under the control of someone else.
The cracks in her armor had spread, nearly covering the entirety of the construct, but she couldn't fail, her village needed her, her chakra dipped as she pushed as much power as she could into the armor, and with a mighty roar she lifted her leg, slamming it into the ground, and with that, she began rising. Legs began forming under her as she pulled the Kyuubi tighter in its headlock.
She felt tears running down her face, and smelt the coppery scent of blood as her eyes burned.
"Transformation: Adamantine Nyoi!" She heard the shout and allowed her grip to loosen on the beast just in time as a large staff slammed into the Kyuubi's chest, sending it crashing through the village wall, and pushing it from their home. Her Susano'o began unravelling as she fell through the air, someone caught her before she could hit the ground, and through blurry vision she could just make out the face of her Leader.
"Lord Third. Did I do good?"
"Perfectly, my dead, many more would have died today without that armor of yours. Perhaps once this night is over, you could explain to me what that was."
"Perhaps... over a cup... of your famous tea."
"Rest now child, the older generation shall take care of the rest." He sat her down against a building, while waving a medic over to collect her, before rushing off to challenge the beast himself.
"That's quite a bit of blood, we'll need to rush you to the-"
"I'll be fine, just strained my eyes a little." she laughed, "Take care of the others, I have nothing but chakra exhaustion and some pins and needles."
"But-"
"Please, I insist, I'll be fine after some rest." The Medic Nin seemed reluctant but the shouts of those in need finally took her away.
With a sigh, Nanashi pulled a chakra pill from her leg pouch and popped on in her mouth, by the time she made it back to the fight her chakra would be semi replenished. She stood to her feet and began stumbling towards the sound of fighting as pain lanced through her body. It felt like she had gone toe to toe against Guy while using the 8 gates, but there was no time for such thoughts. Her Village needed every shinobi they could get. With a Shunshin she returned to the battle, landing on the front lines beside her Leader.
"I believe you were to be taken to the hospital, Nanashi."
"Ah, and leave my comrades to fight on their own."
"The Will of Fire burns brightly in you. If you plan on being of help then I must ask you, the chakra construct you created, can you use it once more?"
"Hai, Hokage-Sama, but my chakra is still quite low, so it won't be for long."
"Can you form weapons?"
"I'm not sure? I've never thought to try."
"Hmm, Enma, would you mind being weilded by another? Just for a short time?"
"But, my lord-" She began.
"If it means knocking some sense into this beast, then I shall allow it this once." The Monkey King proclaimed.
"You heard him, Nanashi, how has your Bo training advanced?"
"Still in its intermediary stages."
"Then that will have to do. I will tell you when to use your armor, is that understood?"
"Hai, Hokage-Sama!"
"Good, for now, use your Sharingan to learn this technique, I created it for use against overwhelming odds such as these. Of course it was originally created with Shuriken in mind, it is still QUITE EFFECTIVE! Ninja Art: Kunai Shadow Clone Jutsu!" He pulled 5 kunai from his pouch, each with an explosive tag attached. He flung the 5 and in a puff of smoke, each became 20 as they slammed into the beast, the shock of the explosion blew their hair back and even caused the beast to flinch back. He pulled one more from his pouch and held it out for her. "Now you try."
She took the kunai and flung it at the beast, forming the necessary seal and manipulating her chakra in the way her leader had. "Ninja Art: Kunai Shadow Clone Jutsu."
"Not, bad, double your chakra output, and focus more on the how many you want to create. 4 copies is what I deemed the most optimal amount when considering chakra usage. Now, let's try again." He handed her 5 kunai, and took 5 for himself. The Kyuubi raised its head into the air, as red and blue chakra began gathering in its mouth
"Ninja Art: Kunai Shadow Clone Jutsu" The two threw their kunai, and in perfect sync called out the name of the jutsu. 200 Kunai with explosive tags slammed into the beast alongside dozens of jutsu. The beast reared back from the force of the attacks.
"Nanashi, now!" He threw his staff into the air enlarging it. The girl nodded as her eyes began to spin once more. With a cry her Susanoo began forming around her once more, she reached out and grabbed the large Bo-Staff from the air before bringing it down on the Kyuubi's neck, sending it crashing into the ground, and interrupting its attack. She slammed the staff into the ground and pulled her hands together in a snake sign. "Earth Style: Mountain Seal!" Rock and stone rose into the air before snapping back down, wrapping around the beast's limbs and attempting to enclose on its snout. For a second it seems to work, until the 9 tail's begins to thrash, shattering the rock and pulling itself to its feet once more, this time bringing its eyes to bare on her.
"Ninja Art Summoning: Bring Down the House Jutsu!" A Puff of smoke in the air stole her attention, and she almost laughed in relief as a Gigantic Toad slammed down onto the beast.
"The Fourth is here!" A cheer rose up amongst the crowd of shinobi as their Kage appeared on top of the Toad Boss Summon, Gamabunta. He looked so powerful standing there, backed by the moon, and standing on one of the greatest summonses. Even her Raven summons constantly complained over their prestige in the Summoning hierarchy.
Nanashi sighed in relief as she slowly moved to the bottom of her Susanoo as she slowly let the chakra armor dissipate.
"You did well my dear, now rest, you deserve it."
"Lord third? Do you think... that when Lord Fourth decides... to step down... I'll be young enough... to be chosen... as his successor?"
"I'm sure you would be at the top of his list, my dear."
"Hah, could you... imagine it? An Uchiha... as the Hokage? Madara... would piss himself in fury." her vision finally darkened as her body went limp. But she couldn't help but worry, something still seemed off.
3 Days later
Nanashi sat upright in her bed, she had finally woken after over exerting herself. The doctors had given her both good and bad news once she was lucid enough. She would be allowed to leave in a few days, she just had to watch how much she strained her eyes. The bad news, however, was that Minato Namikaze, The 4th Hokage, had passed away.
She couldn't help but wonder who would take his place. Orochimaru? Her Uncle Fugaku? It would be a dark time should either one takes over, especially while the Elder's had him under their thumb. With a sigh she prepared to lean back once more and sleep until she would be allowed to leave, but as she leaned back, someone began knocking on her door.
"Come in!" She tried not to sound too excited, hoping for it to be Shisui, or anyone she could talk to, really. She certainly wasn't expecting who walked in.
"Nanashi Uchiha, I hope I'm not interrupting anything?"
"L-Lord Third, I- no one told me you would be here," She struggled to get out of her bed to bow before the man, but his calming voice stopped her.
"At ease, my child, before we begin with the more serious aspects of this meeting, I first wish to ask if you are alright, the Doctor's tell me you will make a full recovery."
"Hai, Hokage-Sama, I am feeling fine."
"If you are sure?"
"Hai, Hokage-Sama, but... I heard that Lord 4th..."
"Sadly, he has passed on, he was able to seal the Nine Tails away using a forbidden jutsu. Sadly it took his life in doing so.
"I see you wish to remain formal, my dear, then I suppose I should hurry along with the other reason for being here. Now, not many know this or seem to forget, that my teacher's we're Lords First and Second, and that during the final confrontation between, Hashirama and Madara, I bore witness to several minutes of their fight, along side Lord Second. I Bore witness to the power Madara wielded, and his Chakra Armor-"
"Susanoo…"
"So you understand what I am here to ask."
"I pose no threat to the village, My Lord, I swear to you I am as loyal as-"
"Peace, my child. I am not here to hear of your possible allegiances, your actions 3 days ago cemented my mind on your future in this village, a future that I can see will be long and prosperous. I merely wished to ask about the ability, if you will allow me to."
"They are closely guarded secrets of the clan, My Lord."
"Then I shall not press you, my-"
"Not even Fugaku knows these secrets."
This shocked Hiruzen, perhaps it was something only the Elders knew, or…
"Who… Who all is in the room, Lord Third?"
"It is just us, I have ordered my ANBU to secure and protect the room."
"Can they hear us?"
"No, my dear."
"You did not think I would attempt to harm you?"
"After your sacrifice that night? Never, not even in a thousand years."
The girl felt her eyes wet at that, only one had given her such trust. "Then there is nothing I would keep secret from you, My Lord. How much time do you have?" She felt a weight fall upon the bed near her legs, and a hand rest upon her knee.
"As much time as you need."
"Have you ever heard of the Mangekyo Sharingan?"
"Ah, diving right in I see. Yes I have heard of it, in fact I have seen it twice before. Once in Madara Uchiha, and the second in his Nephew, Kiyo Uchiha."
"Yes, his notes said he obtained it after standing up to Madara and took a heavy beating from the man. He says after unlocking it, he gained the strength to stand once more. The journal says he believes it, and his strong will, is what saved the Clan from annihilation that night."
"Kiyo was a good man, and it saddened me when he passed. Of course his Cousin Kagami was just as kind and possessed a magnificent Will of Fire."
"Kagami-sama was also a possessor of the Mangekyo."
"I assume you too, have unlocked the form?"
"Hai, the old scriptures say that it must be unlocked by committing an unforgivable sin. The sin of slaying your closest friend or relative."
"And yet you, nor two of the others mentioned seem like the type to commit such a sin."
"Through my research with another who has unlocked the Mangekyo, we believe that instead of unlocking through such an atrocity, it is instead unlocked through an immense feeling of grief or anguish after having fully matured the base Sharingan. My friend unlocked his after witnessing the horrors of the Third war, and I unlocked mine by similar horrors as well. I was one of the genin assigned to Fort Hage just after the 3rd war began. Lord Kazekage himself tore the Iwa Chunnin off of me after the massacre started."
"Shiata was a just man, it is a shame none could discover what happened to him."
"My friend is Shisui Uchiha, he too possesses the Mangekyo. I found out on accident, you see the Clan has a tablet hidden in the Naka Shrine. I discovered it as a child. It has a tale on it along with some instructions. Normal eyes cannot decipher it."
"I assume the Sharingan can?"
"Only partially, I had assumed that once I unlocked the Mangekyo I would be able to read the rest, instead it only revealed a few more lines. It was during my study at the Shrine that another came, I hid thinking it was an Elder, yet imagine my surprise when I found someone my age reading the tablet. I left and returned a few days later, and found him once more, this time I approached him. Sometime passed and we eventually began testing the limits of our new found power, together we learned of the Tsuyokomi, a near inescapable Genjutsu, Amaterasu, Black Flames that burn for seven days and seven nights. Of course, that is false, though they do last several hours if left be, they do not burn for a full week unimpeded. After some months of practice, we also discovered a few more things. Our Genjutsu became leagues stronger as well, I can understand why they say Madara could control the 9 tails, of course that was one of the first things I tried, but for some reason I could not even enter the beast's mind. So, I resorted to my final Ace, Susanoo. From what I've read everyone's is different in looks, and the stronger it becomes the more human like it appears, though the final form supposedly resembles a Tengu, of course Madara Uchiha was the only know one to unlock the Complete Body transformation so it may not be true."
"Fascinating, I wonder if you would help me test out these abilities sometime? If you would be up to it?"
"Anything you require my lord, but there is one last thing I must tell you. You see, the Mangekyo also allows the use of two special abilities unique to the user. We found one of Shisui's quite fast, it is the Kotoamatsukami, a Genjutsu so powerful it can rival even the greatest abilities of the Yamanaka clan. The user can overwrite an entire person's memories, their feelings, and their experiences throughout life. During a mission the two of us went on, Shisui accidently used it on a Bandit for the first time. He accidently gave the bandit his own memories from the academy and his first two years as a Genin. The bandit was able to flawlessly use all 3 of the academies basic jutsu, and had intermediate knowledge of the Interceptor fist. He soon passed from severe chakra exhaustion. We were quite surprised at what we had learned, we finished the C rank as fast as possible and returned home to test out our eyes. After some time I was able to discover one ability of my abilities. My left eye seems to have a similar ability to that of the Byakugan, I can see Chakra in much greater detail when I activate it, and can see through much thicker walls. I believe there is something more to the ability, when I try to focus on something high in Charka, it seems to pulse or waver, but attempting to use it causes too much stress to my eye, and I have to stop. Shisui unlocked his second ability next, he could switch items or even people, it's almost like a kawarimi but with no limit, except for that of his chakra pool, we dubbed it Amenotejikara. Sometime later I thought I had unlocked the exact same ability, that is, until I went to use a genjutsu on an enemy Shinobi, and turned him into a drooling mess, by use of the Kotoamatsukami."
"So, you have multiple abilities?"
"No, it seems that my second ability was not Ame, nor was it Koto, but instead an ability we have dubbed, Dorobō no Sharingan.
"Thief of the Sharingan?"
"Hai, when I use my right eye, I can copy and then store an ability used by another Sharingan, of course the ability is severely weakened, and takes nearly 5 times the chakra cost of even my most powerful abilities. After I first used Koto, I passed out for nearly 3 days. Our team was... not happy about that."
"Nanashi, I must say, your skills seem quite fearsome. Your eyes coupled with your Fire and Doton masteries, not to mention your tertiary training, make you an interesting Kunoichi. With some training I'm sure you could even go toe to toe with our Elite."
"My Lord?"
"Nanashi Uzumaki Uchiha- I, Hiruzen Sarutobi, hereby declare an offer of apprenticeship to you. Should you accept, I will train you in every way I know how. The things I could teach you would make your elementary masteries seem small in comparison. Learn under my tutelage, and you could even rival the Sannin."
"It would be an honor, my lord, but..."
"Is there something wrong, Nanashi?"
"Well, I never once told anyone I had unlocked the Mangekyo, I feared what they would do if a half breed was discovered with it, they would have never known, but there was an incident just before the third war ended. I could either reveal I had it, or risk my entire team dying when a mission went wrong, A fellow Uchiha saw it, and it was reported to the Elders. I lied and told them I had just unlocked it during the mission. A good friend of mine was nearly killed, so it made it more believable. From then on, I was forcibly pushed into the spot light, I was told to accept more and more dangerous missions in order to raise the popularity of the clan. At one point all the missions I was taking were borderline suicide missions. And then a kind old man began offering me advice. If you hadn't convinced me to start taking more care of myself, Lord Third, and even forbidding me from some missions, I do not think I would be here today."
"I saw a child who threw themselves into a war at the young age of 9, one who spent nearly a decade on a battlefield created by those 5 times her age. And my heart would weep from the harshness. I will admit when I first began offering you advice, I weighed the pros and cons. You were completing missions that we could lose entire team's on, and I feared what would happen if you were to actually take my advice. I also truly thought I was offering advice to a corpse. I did not think you would live past the end of the year, with your life taken by your own hand. I truly am glad that I offered you tea that one day."
"I'm truly grateful, My Lord."
"Now then, do you need time to consider my offer?"
"No, my- No... Sensei, I do not, please, teach me all you can."
So I had planned on continuing so that there was only going to be one chapter from Nanashi's point of view before we'd dive into Naruto's, but the flow would be weird, and I had some time issues due to work. Anyways, hope you guys enjoy my new story, we'll see how it goes. Update times will vary.
