The two of them had known they were mates for a while now but despite that, they knew that their love was forbidden. It helped that they both were half ghosts because it made slipping away so much easier. Vlad is thirty years her senior and they both knew that no one would accept that. It also helped that no one really kept track of Dani but when Vlad became the mayor it made things a bit harder. Although he had become the mayor to be closer to Danielle it also made his security that much tighter which included the GiW watching his back a lot.
Speaking of the two they were currently in Vlad's apartment in his oversized bed. The sheets were splayed perfectly around them and there were no ghost attacks that disturbed them at all. Dani figured it had something to do with Vlad and him bribing them to stay away for the night since this would be a night they could actually share together for a while. The reason mostly being because the GiW kept claiming that there was going to be a ghost invasion soon enough and that Vlad had to be under lock and key, Vlad's responsibilities as mayor were going to be getting heavier as well, the worst though was that Dani's parents had noticed Vlad's mark on her and Jazz had noticed that she hadn't been home most mornings.
Jazz and her parents weren't the first to notice her weird behavior or her mark but no one knew where her mark came from or who gave it to her. They could sense the power radiating from around her and her mark but they didn't like it. Dani is an Omega and always will be in their eyes and so they thought she was absolutely useless. But yet here she was and she had a powerful mate who had obviously mated with her and no one was happy about that. They were especially not happy that they didn't know who her mate was. They wanted to control the only Omega in their state and now that she's mated they couldn't, especially now because her mate was a powerful Alpha and they didn't want to cross him. While they didn't assume that her mate was a male, they knew because of the aura that radiated from her mark. Just as everyone else's marks, they exuded that it came from a male or female and Dani's had obviously come from a male.
Dani had woken up before Vlad for once and was just staring at him. Vlad had always looked so stressed whenever he was awake but when he was sleeping she could just stare at his peaceful face. Just as she is thinking about him a lock of hair falls into his face and she brushes it away as gently as possible. Despite this though, Vlad wakes up and stares at his beautiful mate's face.
"You weren't supposed to wake up so soon," Dani whispers to him.
"Maybe not but it certainly isn't unwelcome," Vlad says softly and pulls Dani closer to him. As soon as that happens there's a shift between them and Dani's eyes widen.
"Vlad," she whines.
"I can't control it. Besides, you're my mate and I can't help but be attracted to you."
"You're a dork. What would everyone in Amity say if they found out that their mayor was a romantic despite his cold demeanor?"
"Well, for that to happen they'd have to have found out our secret."
"They can't do much against it. We have a mate bond and even though we didn't have to act on it we did and now we're fully mated. The worst they could do is separate us or even burn off our marks but our bond will always be there."
"I'm surprised you knew as much. What would everyone say if they found out that you were smarter than you actually look and with your grades?"
"They'd probably put that person in an insane asylum."
"It'd be worth it, especially if you were locked up right next to me."
"You're such a flirt."
"Only for you my dear," Vlad then puts his head in the crook of Dani's neck and gently kisses her mark.
"Vlad, if you keep that up we're going to start what we did last night."
"As far as I'm concerned neither of us has anything going on for the rest of the day. It is Sunday after all, which means no work, no ghosts, no school, and no homework."
"True and Maddie and Jack are going to be in the lab all day and Jazz is with her two mates and will probably spend today much like us."
"Oh, but they can't spend it exactly like us, now can they?"
"Of course not because after we've had breakfast they can't go for a flight around the city."
"Maybe even a picnic in the Ghost Zone or on the highest point in Amity."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
The two start what they started last night and stay like that for two hours before they decide that they have to get up and shower and have breakfast. When they finished with their breakfast they clean their dishes up before changing into their ghost forms and start flying across the sky. Dani tends to shoot ahead a lot and Vlad allows her to before he catches up to her. Sometimes when he catches up to her he wraps her in his arms. One of these times is right in the middle of the city around noon when almost everyone is milling about. Two of those people happen to be GiW agents who get ready to aim. Even though the two were high above in the sky, almost everyone could tell that the two were mates just having a good time.
"Stand down ghost scum!" Agent O yells causing the two to notice just where they are. They get a shocked look on their faces and quickly let go of one another to get ready to fly away again. That was when the weapon fires and the two disperse but the blast ends up following Dani to which Vlad gets in between her and the blast and puts up an ectoshield. The two expect for the shield to absorb the blast or even hit the shield and break it. What they weren't expecting was for the blast to go straight through the shield and hit Vlad in the stomach. He ends up falling and Dani tries to catch him but all she really does is slow his fall. The two end up landing in front of everyone and Vlad was just barely holding onto consciousness.
While there are normal people around there are also more GiW agents that emerge and surround them with their weapons pointed at the two. "Surrender now and you won't be in as much pain!" An agent yells at Dani but she ignores them in favor of her mate.
"Vlad, Vlad, please stay awake. I know it's painful but please wake up. I'm your little mate remember I can't do too much without you there, remember? Vlad please," Dani whimpers with tears in her eyes.
Vlad slowly opens his eyes and says lowly," It's alright Little Badger, It'll be okay. We can't escape this, or at least I can't. You need to get out of here."
"No, I'm not leaving you. You don't know what they're capable of."
"And you do?" Vlad says a bit angry.
"Quit your yammering and just come with us now!" A different agent yells and they all start to warm their weapons up. They would have fired had the Fenton Ghost Assault Vehicle hadn't come around the corner and squealed to a stop before hitting the GiW. That of course gave Dani enough time to turn both her and Vlad invisible and intangible. She ended up taking them down into the sewer where Vlad could actually pass out and change back into his human form.
Dani ended up having to rip part of her shirt in her human form to wrap around Vlad to slow the bleeding until she could get him back to his apartment. It was a bit of a struggle flying back invisible and trying not to jostle Vlad's injury. When she reaches his apartment she changes back into her human form and puts Vlad in his bathtub. Once he's situated she grabs the first aid kit and turned his shirt intangible to remove it easier. She immediately disinfects the wound before sterilizing a needle and using a lighter she starts to sew Vlad up. The wound would leave a scar but they were both littered in them already, so what was one more between them.
The important thing was not how many scars they had but that they were still alive and together. Dani had more between the two because of all the ghost fighting she's done over the years but that didn't mean Vlad was blemish-free either.
When Dani was done dressing Vlad's wound she gently moved him to the bed. Vlad was still conked out and Dani knew that he'd be awake in an hour or so she decided that she'd make him lunch because he'd be hungry and he'd need his strength to heal faster. Vlad would be healed by tonight if he actually rested but the latest he'd be fully healed would be by tomorrow morning.
As Dani was making lunch she turned on the news and that was when she saw it. There was an asteroid hurtling towards Earth and as it went it wasn't even breaking up like a normal asteroid. The news channels were calling it the Disasteroid. Dani knew just from the looks of the asteroid that it wasn't normal and they were saying where the asteroid originated from. Dani knew exactly where it was because of her expertise of space and because she heard the GiW having a new base out there. She knew that it was the GiW fault and she figured they were experimenting with something. There had to have been something out there that could help combat ghosts and that was why it was so important.
Dani got out of her thoughts and continued to make lunch before it burned. She would bring it up with Vlad later on and she was sure that Maddie and Jack also know what was out there. If anything Maddie and Jack had brought up the type of elements are out there but the GiW have the funding to actually go out into space. When lunch was finished Dani dished it out onto two plates. She brought the plates into Vlad's bedroom before leaving again to get two glasses of water. When she returns Vlad is stirring before he eventually wakes up.
"Hey, you're awake. You still have to eat and rest though, especially if you want to be healed by tonight."
"Of course I want to be healed by tonight. It'll be the last night that we know we'll be able to spend together for a while. I'm sorry that our day didn't go as planned."
"It's not your fault besides I should be thanking you for saving me earlier."
"I'd do it over and over again. I'd die for you. I love you Elle and that will never ever stop."
"I love you too and I'm glad that you waited for me when most wouldn't."
"I'd wait an eternity for you."
Dani is touched by Vlad's words and slowly and gently helps him up. When he's in a sitting up position she hands him his plate and sits next to him. She curls into his side and he leans against her a bit. The two then go into a comfortable silence as they eat.
When the two are done Dani takes their plates and move them off to the side. She then helps Vlad lay back down. She then tries to get up and start to do the dishes but Vlad holds her in place and pulls her closer to him.
"You need to rest."
"Yes but what better way than to have my precious mate by my side."
Dani blushes before responding, "I need to do the dishes and then I'll be right back. I promise."
"The dishes can wait."
"Fine, fine, fine. Just remember this later."
"I will because my beautiful mate is watching me and taking care of me."
"I love you."
"I love you as well, Little Badger."
"Where did that nickname even come from?"
"Well for one you're little, both smaller and younger than me, and I was born and raised in Wisconsin. Where it's almost a daily occurrence to see a badger on either the side of a highway or in the countryside."
"I guess that makes sense. Um, Vlad while I was making lunch I had the news playing and they mentioned something about a Disasteroid. You don't think that-"
"That the GiW are responsible? Yes, I already knew about their little space project."
"How? Wait- nevermind that! How are we going to fix this mess?"
"WE aren't going to fix anything this is a government problem!"
"They aren't going to be able to do anything. Apparently, it's already been heading towards us for the past week, and obviously, if it's on the news anything the government has tried to keep it on the down-low hasn't been working. We have to do something!"
"Calm down Danielle. Everything will be okay, besides we have one another, we'll be able to survive. It's not our fault that the GiW decided to put this world in danger! We can just go to the Ghost Zone."
"Vlad, you know better! If the Earth goes so does the Ghost Zone! They're parallel universes, it's why we are what we are! We have to find a way to stop this from destroying the world! You can start by doing things on this end and I'll do it in the Ghost Zone!"
"You can't go into the Ghost Zone! Do you know how many enemies you have in there?"
"I'll be fine! Besides they always come through in the end! In the meantime, you need to rest up. I'll be back before you know it. I love you and I'll be back before the sun starts to set."
"Danielle that's six hours from now!"
"The Ghost Zone is a big place, it'll take hours just to gather everyone."
"Just promise me you'll be safe."
"I will, just stay and rest up. I want you to be healed by tonight. I'll be back."
With that Dani gives Vlad a kiss before she transforms and flies to the Fenton Portal. She flies high and invisible so as to hopefully not be picked up by any ecto-gear. She arrives in no time and despite the Fenton's being in their lab they're focusing on the Disasteroid, what she overhears, however, is about ectoranium. She briefly knew about this because of Frostbite and Clockwork which is why she was going to get more information out of them before anything else.
