It was the middle of summer when he heard the news. His brother left his only son. Only to die. Castiel knew that his brother would do this, but he didn't expect him to die soon after. Castiel let out a breath as he walked up to the house that his nephew was staying at. His brown trench coat and light brown hair blew in the wind. His clear blue eyes stared at the nice house. Flowers lined the walkway. An angel statue sat by the door and Castiel could not help but smile at that. The house was blue with white trim. Castiel stared at the house for a while lost in thought about how he was going to look after his nephew. He wasn't worried but he didn't know his nephew very much. Castiel let out a calming breath when his phone rang. He listened to it ring before he answered it. "Hello Dean," he said in his usual ruff voice.

"Cass, hello. I'm just calling to see how you are doing?" his boyfriend Dean Winchester said with a small chuckle, Castiel chuckled back,

"How are you and Sam" Castiel asked without answering Dean's question. He heard Dean sigh.

"Still working on that case," Dean answered. Castiel nodded and ran his hand over his face.

"I can help," Castiel said. He heard Dean sigh again.

"Cass, you took the mouth off after…"

"I know," Castiel cut him off with a sigh. "I know, I'm getting Jack now, I'll see you later. I love you," Castiel said smiling a little. He heard Dean chuckle.

"Alright. Sorry about bringing it up Cas. Say hi to Jack for me. I love you too," Dean hanged with Castiel doing the same. He sighed and walked up to the door. Castiel took a deep breath before he rang the doorbell. Cass waited rocking on his feet. Maybe he was nervous, but he knew that he could do this but... The door opened cutting off his thoughts. In the doorway stood a boy a little older than Jack. He was laughing but Cass saw something in his eyes. There was a sadness there. Cass saw it in Dean and Sam's eyes. The boy nodded and led Cass into the house.

The house was nice, roomy even. However, Cass knew that for these kids wasn't this a home to them. Even though they tell people it was. Cass walked up to a door. "He's in there," the boy said knocking on the door. Cass looked around as he waited for the door to open. He was in front of the banister of the stairs. He saw kids in the back yard but none of them looked like Jack. The door opened and the boy walked away. "Good luck!" the boy called with a laugh. Cass watched him and sighed as he walked in. The office was clean. A small desk sat in the middle of the room. Only a bookshelf stood in front of the window. This made Cass confused on why you would have it blocking the sunlight. The man stood in front of Cass with a smile. Cass noticed that he had bright blue eyes and graying black hair.

"Ah, hello there," he said holding out his hand. Cass took it.

"Castiel. I'm here to pick up Jack Kline. He's my nephew," Cass said releasing his hand. The man smiled.

"Alex. He is in his room. I'll go get him," Alex said leaving the room. Cass pulled up a chair and waited. He thought of Jack and how he would be able to look after him. However, he knew that it would be fun and wonderful to get to know him more.

A few minutes later, Alex walked back in with Jack behind him. Jack, well, Jack looked just like his father, but he could see his mother's eyes on him. Jack waved but he didn't say anything. Alex smiled. "He's a little nervous," Alex said. Cass laughed a little, but he too didn't say anything. Alex then left the room and Cass didn't know what to say. Jack however walked over to him and pulled him into his arms. Cass smiled as he wrapped his arms around him.

"Castiel," Jack said pulling out of his arms. "I, thank you for picking me up. I don't know what else to say," Jack said. Cass smiled as he picked up Jack's suitcase.

"I don't either. Let's go home. I…" Jack cut him off.

"We can figure this out together," Jack said as the two walked out of the room.
