(First Part: "SCG Mission Report Files 1-1 - Make me Crash")

He couldn't believe it!

He had done something he never thought about himself doing so!

He had actually sought out for psychological help.

After the incident General Hammond had SG-1 off duty for almost two months. But no one complained. Not even Jack.

Under normal circumstances he wasn't a fan of psychological treatment at all and always gave his very best to maneuver around it. 'Stupid' or 'a waste of time, they could do something better' were his normal approaches when it came down to it.

However this time it has been needed. And the most shocking part about it, he still kind of needed it.

And he wasn't even the victim.

He could hardly imagine what Carter was going through right now. To be honest she appeared fairly normal to them, very sunny in her attitude, but Jack knew her. Something was off all the time.

For the sake of the team she acted surprisingly normal like nothing ever happened. But every time Jack brought up the incident she immediately blocked. Dr. MacKenzie, the SGC head psychiatrist, had always pointed out in their sessions that it was most important to address the topic with the whole team and work through it together. But every time Jack tried to talk with her about it she simply blocked it.

Jack had felt at a loss since then. Even though they still were a team he felt it all slipping between his fingers. However every time he tried to grab it it all felt like water just running nonetheless. He couldn't read his team anymore and he felt like it was getting out of his hands.

He had a heart to heart talk with the boys already, and to his own surprise he understood why Dr. MacKenzie had much insisted on these conversations. Not only brought it him closer to the boys as their leader but also as a friend. It made them grow together so much more. And Jack had enjoyed it as well as he had been able to talk about his worries and problems as well.

He had been surprised that Teal'c was coping fairly well with it. He had only been to psychological treatment once and he seemed fine. Of course he was still affected by it but it was very good for the team that even one was grounded the way they were all supposed to. Teal'c acted as the anchor for the team.

Of course Daniel hadn't coped this well with the situation. Jack knew that he and Carter shared a trusted bond with each other on another level than he did with her as soldiers. The archaeologist tried to drown his thoughts in work but every time he stopped he felt the whole world crashing down on him. With the Doctor he had found works to not get into burnout, but Daniel was heading on the track to do exactly that. He just couldn't find the rest that his body and mind desperately needed.

While he and the Jaffa finally had the time to catalog all these items that had been waiting for their turn for years and Carter doing one science project after the other, Jack had drowned his anger in sport and shooting training.

For hours he stood in the shooting range everyday. Bullet magazine after magazine he had fueled his gun with. Like on repeat he had shot for hours.

His mind had been blank most of the time.

He was just shooting.

A few times his brain was playing this awful movie of the situation he had never witnessed but could only imagine. And the moment these pictures were flowing over him his shooting got angrier.

No one ever dared to be in the same room as him at these times.

When he had been done with shooting he drowned himself in sports. He was fitter than he had ever been. But he needed this kind of loosing his aggressions with physical activity. It was clearing his head.

And there had finally this fateful day.

SG-1 was sent on an off-world mission again.

Dr. MacKenzie had given General Hammond a go and thus the General didn't hesitate anymore. SG-1 was his best team out there. And he wanted it back in action.

And SG-1 wanted to be back in action as well.

They all longed for a different view than these blunt grey concrete walls and the colored lines on the ground. They wanted trees, plains and – just something different. An adventure that would bring them all back to their old heights.

Nonetheless Jack kept being skeptical. Would it all work out well? Could the team function the way it always had? Could they trust each other to forever back each other up no matter the cost?

Of course it hadn't.

It was their fate as SG-1. No mission ever gone as planed.

Now Jack was sitting over his mission report.

The most important of it all.

What he wrote into this report may influence the future of SG-1.

General Hammond was a clever man.

He had chosen a diplomatic mission for them. And moreover they were to meet people they had encountered years ago and were on diplomatic terms already. The mission was more of a 'hello, how are you?' type of thing.

There couldn't possibly go anything wrong.

When it came down to them for diplomacy it was normally Daniel's turn to shine.

When it came to hand to hand combat the archaeologist was not really terrible – but was. However when there was this one piece of relics or this one line of symbols Daniel rose to fame. And he was normally the one to make first contact with new civilizations – for he was the best suited compared to the others: Teal'c was a very frightening figure, Carter had the problem of being female and was thus not always as welcomed as the boys and Jack just wasn't the guy for it. But it was no lie that Daniel had a gift for it. A natural born non-violent person.

Thus Daniel was of course the one that was already greeting the local politicians. Jack and the rest of SG-1 were just trying to look as friendly as possible, being armed from head to toe.

In the briefing beforehand they had already decided for Teal'c to join the meeting. He was very knowledgeable about rumors or myths and could assist Daniel best when it came down to specific terms the linguist didn't know about.

He and Carter weren't really needed so they decided to stay outside. Carter was more the scientist but the diplomatic and Jack – let's say, had some diplomatic shortcomings.

So the four parted ways.

Jack and Sam just stood there.

Awkward.

"Shall we take a look around?" Jack asked after some seconds that felt like hours. He was trying to sound as indifferent as possible to create the normal atmosphere between them.

"Yes, Sir" she simply answered. Jack could see she knew exactly why he proposed that.

With no more words they started walking. A somewhat awkward silence developed between them. Jack felt like he was just walking with some random air force guy instead of his 2IC.

This incident had really created a rift in the team.

Just because Jack didn't know how to act with her.

Carter noticed the atmosphere. Like she had done the past week she tried to overcome it by acting the most normal way she could master. "A beautiful town, Sir."

Her statement forced Jack to fall out of his thoughts and reminiscence the beautiful scenery.

Carter was right it was a beautiful little town. It reminded him of these old picturesque European town centers from the medieval time period. The sense of coziness was very welcoming to him. The half-timbered houses with their wooden shutters made it look really romantic and nostalgic.

Jack led himself flood with the beauty of the scenery.

Some children were playing in the streets while the adults all did their daily business. Of course he and Carter stood out with their green army suit and drew a lot of attention. Under normal circumstances it was something they were both used to but since the incident Jack didn't like it at all when Carter was becoming the center of attention. Jack had become very sensitive about the situations even more than Carter herself. Especially around men.

He must protect her. At all costs.

However the situation was calm right now.

They made their way to the town center and ended up at the local market. Many stores displayed their goods. It was nothing worth mentioning or actually interesting enough to draw attention but still they enjoyed the craftsmanship. The fruits looked delicious.

"The guests from the distant planet."

Jack and Carter turned around to find the owner of the voice.

It was a woman behind one of the stores. She was a little older and chubby which made her look very friendly and open. She smiled at them with a sense of welcome.

"Greetings" Jack waved at her. He didn't know the woman nor did he know if she was someone important. Still he and Carter walked over to her. Her store held some fruits similar to earth but also some they had never seen.

"Mattheo had told us about your arrival today at the house of god this morning" she stated still smiling. "I was so exited as this is my first time to meet people that arrived from the Ring of the Gods."

"I hope we meet up to your expectations" Jack joked. He could see Carter smile.

The woman laughed. "You certainly do, mister." – 'Mister', a word he hadn't heard in a very long time – "These kind of clothes, these kind of weapons. All things I have never encountered before." She inspected them with big eyes. "But still I must say I'm positively surprised."

Jack raised an eye brow.

"I feared you to be scarier. But you are actually very friendly."

"Ha!" Jack made and slapped his 2IC on the shoulder. She was kind of surprised by his action "You hear that Carter? I look friendly!"

She smiled at him. "Yes, Sir."

Again the woman behind the store laughed. "Please, strangers, take whatever you like." She waved with her hand over her fruits inviting them to take one.

"Well, I don't say no to that" Jack accepted with a smirk and reached for a fruit that looked like an apple. Carter politely declined.

They said their goodbyes and went ahead. The apple Jack chose tasted great.

For the first time since long he actually felt like he was enjoying himself again. He had been so afraid of going into field with his team again and feared for them not being able to handle what was to come. But the mission the General had chosen for them was great to find their old team spirit and confidence once again. And Jack could feel for it coming back.

His eyes wandered to Carter. She was enjoying herself as well. She was nodding her head to some people passing by who had greeted her. Jack could see her relaxed position. So her training with Dr. MacKenzie actually worked as she could allow herself to get in contact with unknown people once more.

When she stumbled on the cobblestones on the street Jack grabbed her arm almost the very second. From all these joyful impressions around them he was still very alerted about her. She apologized for her miss. Still Jack didn't let go of her arm. They just stood in the middle of the street. Nobody took notice of them.

"Sir?" she asked after a while. She wasn't comfortable with her CO holding her like this.

It took Jack a few seconds to understand he was still gripping her. With a shocked expression on his face he let go of her arm in a haste move. "Sorry" he whispered. He was somehow not able to look in her eyes.

"It's okay, Sir" she simply stated looking at the ground.

And then they heard it.

A terrible scream coming from the darkness of a small hallway.
