This was supposed to be the best of his life. His wife was about to give him a son! He waited impatiently, walking around the corridor like on fire. Once in right, once I left. Repeat. Could somebody be so surprised about it? He was about to become a father! He bitted his fingers, and he looked at those doors, waiting for anything! Waiting for gratulations, waiting for the doctor, waiting for the great news!
Eventually, for his calmness, the door opened and he rapidly rushed through them. He saw his beautiful wife, sweat was streaming from her face. She was breathing heavily and smiled at him tiredly. He smiled at her back, tears forming in his eyes. She was his everything. His song. His world. And now she gave her another reason to love her even more. "Hello, love. How is our new mommy feeling?"
Beep, beep, beep.
"Wonderful. When they would bring him? They took him just when everything ended. I didn't see him yet." She asked, but it was that weakly he was sure no one besides him heard that. Did he look around, where his son even was?
"Excuse me? Where is my little boy?" When he saw the occasion, asked the first upcoming doctor. He had done it rather harshly, but he was just worried. Why it took so long?! His wife waited for her son!
Beep, beep, beep.
"In a minute, sir. You must be warned about his situation, right?"
"We know he would be born without a leg. Yet, it didn't give you the right to keep him away from mother!"
"I understand your distress, even so, it's important to check for any other diseases." The doctor immediately turned away and went in a way where someone was calling for him. Great, whatever.
He looked at the surroundings. There were much of nurses and doctors, but despite it, none of them was now helping his wife! It was their work to take care of their patients, so why they didn't now? He walked towards, now worried, a woman laying in bed which was now wet from her sweat. He held her hand, and she at touch tightened her grip. "Where is he, honey? Is something wrong?"
"Don't worry dear. He would be here at any moment now." He stroked her forehead with his thumb of another hand, just so she remained calm.
"I'm just scared. Maybe, there is-"
Then, there was the sound of crying. "There is he! Henry Haddock." He turned to see a doctor which held a little figure. Tiny figure. His son. The doctor went in their direction. He let him pass by, as his target was his wife first. As he looked at her, she looked so delighted. She looked so blessed. She looked so happy. "Take good care of him, miss Haddock."
Beep, beep, beep.
She didn't register his voice, as her full attention was on the little infant by her chest. Her little happiness. She held him with her arms, tears streaming down her cheeks. She looked in direction of her husband, looking at her proudly. She placed a soft kiss on her son's forehead and immediately he remained calm as he knew her. It felt so magical. She didn't want that moment to end. "My sweet boy. My little Hiccup."
Father went closer, wanting to check on his son. He was a tiny thing. His wife always was skinny, rather average height, yet there was his little indeed son. He was confused by it, he wasn't ever small. Everyone kept telling him, how big a man he was. He just took it after his mother. Even a slightly thought about hers cheating on him didn't swiftly go over his head. She was too perfect for that.
Beep, beep, be--
Immediately woman's body went limp. Her eyes remained open, even for the sudden stop of her heartbeat. Boy by her chest cried. Tears formed in his eyes. His wife, his love, his dear. What was happening? Was she dying? There was shouting around him of doctors trying to save his wife. His son was taken somewhere else, but he didn't care. What was most important was her, and he is about to lose her. He could hear someone calling for him. He remained still. He won't leave her now.
His whole world shattered, and Vanessa Haddock was dead. Her death was caused unexpectedly, as doctors exclaimed, by the tiredness of labor. Henry was going to be born much later. He was a preterm infant. There was nothing that caused his sudden earlier reborn. And that was the reason for his sudden hate towards his child.
He didn't get any gratulations from his friends about him, only condolences. There wasn't any celebration, just a funeral. As time went on, he grow only more hateful against an innocent child. Yet, he didn't feel he was innocent at all. Labour started unexpectedly, and nobody knew why. For some reason, while looking at the child, now cozily sleeping on one of the hospital's little beds for such kids, his thoughts were screaming one thing. It was his fault. He killed his mother!
He came closer to it, looking like a predator over its victim. He lost everything. And with what he remained? With it?! With a little, useless, weak boy. Even so, he should have an even a slight feeling of Vanessa's blood, he didn't feel it. He wanted to get rid of him. He wanted to never see him again. Just as he never even existed.
