Percy's POV
Ch1: I meet an Anthropomorphic Arachnid
Look you read the title, and no, I did not meet Arachne. I woke up to my mom's world famous blue pancakes. Mom held the newspaper in her hands. "Percy, Annabeth came by earlier" she said, "She said that she had something urgent to tell you, and to meet her at camp." I grabbed the car keys and headed out the door.
On the way to camp, I saw a strange thing swing from building to building. I blinked and it was gone. I decided not to investigate because Annabeth was waiting for me at camp, and last time I was late, well, let's just say things didn't end well for me.
As I entered camp I noticed a strange thing in the woods surrounding the entrance to camp. I pulled riptide out of my pocket just in case. As I got inside something in red and blue jumped at me and fell flat on its face trying to get through the magical barrier. Is that a mortal?, I thought as I uncapped riptide. The mortal held out his hands and something that looked like a web shot out from their wrists. Who the hades is this kid?, I thought. I ran into camp to alert Chiron of this strange mortal.
I stood at the entrance of the big house trying to catch my breath. I burst through the door to see Mr D and Chiron playing pinochle. "Percy!" Chiron said, "What is going on?" I explained to him about the strange mortal outside camp. Mr D grunted. "What harm could a mortal do?" he muttered. Chiron paced nervously. "Are you absolutely sure it was a mortal?" he asked. "yes, there was no trace of the mist on him" I replied. The worry lines on his face deepened. He told me that there would be a announcement at the campfire tonight. I texted to my mom that I would be staying the night at camp.
I made my way to the Athena cabin to talk to Annabeth. My phone buzzed. My mother had responded with, "Be safe :)", I stuffed my phone into my pocket and open the cabin door. Annabeth looked up from Daedalus's laptop. "Percy!" she exclaimed. She kissed me on the cheek. "I'm so glad your here!" she said with a smile. Her smile faded as she saw the worry on my face. A girl, who I could only assume was her sister came into the cabin. "Annabeth, monster studies is starting" she said. "Thanks Eliza, I'll be there in a minute" she said. "See you at the campfire, Seaweed brain" she said with a worried glance.
The campfire that night was great. The fire was at least 15 feet tall with bright purple flames. Chiron trotted out of the mess hall with a worried expression. "Campers" he said, "please gather around, I have an announcement to make." Mr D sat at the counselors table with a bored look on his face.
"Campers" Chiron announced, "There has been a troubling development outside of Camp Half Blood." There was worried murmuring in the crowd. "There has been a strange mortal spotted outside of camp" Chiron said, "If your counselors have any ideas, please speak up." Clarisse stood. "The ares cabin has decided to have Campers keep watch" she said. Malcom Pace stood. "The Athena Cabin disagrees, we can't put any lives on the line" he pointed out. Clarisse and Malcom argued back and forth.
"Enough!" Chiron yelled. "Do any other cabins have different ideas?" Chiron asked. Nsyssa Barrera stood. "Yes, Nsyssa?" Chiron asked. "The Hephaestus cabin thinks we should send automatons instead of Campers" she replied. "All in favor?" Chiron asked. Every counselors hand went up. Annabeth dragged Percy out of the crowd. "Spit it out Seaweed brain, because you have a lot of explaining to do" Annabeth said with a scowl.
