Looks like I can't help myself and once again made another Fairy Tail story called "A Boy and the Magma Dragon". It is somewhat similar to "A Girl and the Machias" when it comes with ancient beings who are befriended by young children in their first meeting. I can't help but notice that whenever I read some of the FT OC Dragon Slayer fics, the Dragon parent of the OC do not have much spotlight or expansion of their character other than being the plot devices.
For example: the Dragon Slayer OC was conveniently orphaned by some tragedy (abandoned by parents, Dark Guild raid, monster attack, etc.) and found by the Dragon parent who raised him or her and taught them to learn Dragon Slayer Magic of whatever element. Then the Dragon parent disappears (i.e., enters into the bodies to prevent Dragonification) which the OC is off on their own and joins Fairy Tail as always and rarely other Guilds (Legal or Dark) in Fiore.
Synopsis: "While searching for clues to find Igneel as a little boy, Natsu Dragneel encounters a Magma Dragon who dwells deep within the volcano as her domain and a former retainer of his adoptive father, befriending her. Volcanis decides to watch over the boy, train him and be a mother figure to fill in the void Igneel left when he disappeared."

Chapter 1
In the volcanic area near between Fiore and Seven
Deep within the massive semi-active volcano where most humans would normally stay away from it with common sense, there dwells a Magma Dragon who is laying down comfortably in the middle of her home turf.
Her name is Volcanis, the Magma Dragon and the former retainer of Igneel the Fire Dragon King.
Like Atlas Flame, who is also a fellow retainer of Igneel, is a dragon of fire, Volcanis is made of magma. However, to preserve the other lands she travels too that isn't fire, she can cool her magma into solid rock so that the female Dragon can step on grass plains if she wants to leave her domain without burning the land too much, which is very helpful to hide her tracks from those hunting her down.
She has magma flowing endlessly out of her, almost giving any human who lay their eyes on her the first impression as a goopy Dragon, but the intense heat she gives off will quickly dispel that notion.
400 years ago, Volcanis is one of the few Dragons who escaped Acnologia's rampage which brought forth the near extinction of the race of Dragons as a whole during the Dragon King Festival, and hidden themselves from the Black Dragon of the Apocalypse. Ironically, her long term sleeping habit within the volcano is what saved her life when the Black Dragon of the Apocalypse started slaughtering Dragons and also Dragon Slayers too as well wherever he goes and bathed in their blood.
And that is before he transformed fully into a Dragon himself upon overusing his Dragon Slayer Magic and threw away his humanity, becoming the very thing he swore to destroy.
In fact, Acnologia did not even know that the Magma Dragon was sleeping deep within the volcano especially when her body of magma blended in very well and simply moved on to find another Dragon to slay by his hand.
Regardless however, Volcanis never knew about the Black Dragon and his rampage and simply stayed inside her turf for centuries, unwittingly created a folk legend of the "Volcanic Demon" where most humans stay clear of her, unaware of her true nature as a Dragon. The foolish ones who dare disturb her nap and try to kill her were driven off to run away or drowned to death under her magma with immense prejudice.
The Magma Dragon has no hate for humans but she prefers having peace and quiet.
Sensing an intruder approaching her domain, Volcanis roused herself from her sleep and stretched her limbs and wings. Another intruder again. Humans are so persistent. They do this for the money, the glory and the thrill. They never change after centuries pass. Ughhh... I'm not in a mood to kill the poor schmuck trying to find and fight me. It gets boring once in a while. Better scare him or her off..., she thought before starting her bombastic performance.
She causes the magma around her to rise dramatically and intimidatingly as she roared out in her fully goopy Dragon glory.
"FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS I LAY DORMANT, WHO HAS DISTURBED MY-"
"Wooooow, a Dragon!", a voice of a very happy boy interrupted Volcanis' hammy speech.
The former retainer of Igneel was stunned and looked down to see a little boy with pink hair and a white scaled scarf and he is wearing an undershirt, shorts with a shirt tied around his waist and a pair of sandals. He looked very happy with tears of joy in his eyes and a look of vindication upon laying his eyes on her.
"Ha! I knew it! Dragons are not extinct! That means Igneel might be out here somewhere!", he said happily after wiping his eyes.
The human child knows Igneel? How long have I been sleeping and what year is this?! And what do you mean Dragons are not extinct?! Important questions for later., Volcanis thought before starting to demand answers. "Why do you know of Igneel, little human?"
"Because Igneel is my dad! I'm Natsu Dragneel! The Fire Dragon Slayer from the wizard guild Fairy Tail!", the pink haired boy proudly answered with an introduction.
"He is your father and he taught you his power?", the female goopy looking Dragon asked him with a skeptical look.
A Dragon Slayer? Quite a ominous title for a human who claims to be the Fire Dragon King's son. Still I can sense Igneel's magic within the child. The king did adopt the boy and taught him his power of fire. Interesting..., she thought.
Showing off his dragonic sharp teeth and flames on his right hand, Natsu proudly confirmed. "Yup! Igneel taught me Fire Dragon Slayer Magic. He is like the greatest dad ever and I want to be strong as him when I grow up!"
Then the boy feel somber as he revealed to the Magma Dragon, "... But Igneel disappeared. I thought he was playing hide and seek until he didn't really come back. So I came looking for him, joined Fairy Tail after Gramps invited me in and find clues to where Igneel is."
Igneel, you goddamn fool! Human children are not like hatchlings! Why did you even adopt the boy and then abandon him like that?!, Volcanis thought in pity and horror that the little boy was abandoned by the Fire Dragon King and left to fend for himself.
As far as the Volcanis knows, Dragons do not form families at all like humans do even though she doesn't really mind too much about the latter race and their explosive reproduction. Instead when breeding season occurs and later the conception, the newly-born Dragon is then to be raised by the mother Dragon. It is rare, if ever, the offspring Dragon sees the father Dragon again.
The Magma Dragon remembered the time where she saw Igneel mated with a nameless female Dragon, whom she never bothered or cared to learn her name, and have a son called Ignia before leaving them behind. Her heart felt an ache of jealously but brushed it off.
It's not like any Dragon would mate with a goopy looking freak anyway. Dogramag and his complete bitch of a mate saw me that way and abandoned me before Igneel and Atlas Flame came to my life., she bitterly thought in self-loathing.
"And coming to my domain is your first clue?", Volcanis asked the young Dragon Slayer.
Natsu nodded as he revealed the Job Request to the goopy Dragon, "Yup, I took the job to take down a Volcanic Demon. But I saw it looks vaguely like a Dragon. So I thought it could be a Dragon and I was right! I can't wait to rub it in their faces when I get back to Fairy Tail!"
"So in that case, are you going to fight me, son of Igneel? You may have his power but you're compared to an adorable hatchling play fighting.", Volcanis chuckled with a challenging tone.
"Yeah! Don't underestimate me, dragon lady! I'm strong!", Natsu pointed his finger at her with a ticked off pout, which makes him more endearing to her.
"Very well then, my name is Volcanis the Magma Dragon.", she announced herself before manifesting a cooled down magma-shaped demonic knight that is equipped with a shield and a halberd with a flick of her claw from her volcanic domain. "Since I'm too strong for you to fight, how about this? Defeat my creation, the "Magma Demon Knight" and it will be considered as a victory over the "Volcanic Demon". You can use its remains as proof of your job's success."
"Really? Thanks! Ready or not, here I come!", the son of Igneel accepted and charged at Volcanis' creation. "Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!"
He punched the Magma Demon Knight with his fist imbued with Dragon fire and magic circle, but it had no effect after the latter raised a shield made of magma to block it. The magma knight swung the shield that sent Natsu flying. The pink haired boy managed to regain his footing and charged again. His opponent thrusts the halberd that is also made of magma that unleashes a straight blast of magma.
"Fire Dragon's Roar!", Natsu unleashed a powerful breath attack with a magic circle to counter it.
The blasts of fire and magma clashed against each other, causing a large explosion before the two combatants started trading blows in battle. Volcanis who puppets the Magma Demon Knight is impressed of the boy's power and potential. Despite my strong reservation of Igneel leaving Natsu alone, he taught the boy the basics of his magic. I wonder if the king taught Natsu advanced spells. Still, I've been holding back this construct's power a lot to make things fair. He's not ready to know how strong Dragons really are at his young age., she thought.
"Fire Dragon's Sword Horn!", Natsu yelled as he slams into the Magma Demon Knight in the torso with his flame-coated head from a magic circle, briefly pushing it back and leaving a big hole on it.
The magma knight grabs Natsu to send him flying again and regenerate its magma body as if nothing happened at all. However, Natsu swung his arms covered in two magic circles and streaming flames towards it. "Fire Dragon's Wing Attack!"
The Magma Demon Knight swung its halberd, deflecting the flames and firing a beam slash made of magma at Natsu which struck him head on with a big explosion as a result. The boy crashed on the ground and comically panicked when his undershirt is on fire.
"Aaaaaah! Get it off! Get if off!", he shouted before he stopped in realized. "Oh wait a minute, I can eat this."
He scarfed the fire down, saving his undershirt from being ruined.
Volcanis laughs in amusement of the little boy's antics but then she noticed the scarf wrapped around his neck in recognition and thought. Those are Dragon scales. And I bet they're from Igneel. After all, when Dragon scales are separated from the body of a Dragon, their pigment becomes faint. But that scarf has to be made by human hands. It means that Igneel must have a human caretaker before he disappeared and left Natsu alone.
Sometimes I envy Igneel and his acquaintances who have Dragon scales., the Magma Dragon sighs in disappointment regarding her goopy magma body.
Natsu saw the laughter and disappointment from Volcanis and comically yelled out. "Not funny, Volcanis! Don't look down on me just because I couldn't beat your magma puppet!"
Smiling impishly, the goopy Dragon pondered. "Oh am I? Then prove me wrong, son of Igneel. This time I'm not playing around anymore."
That is a little white lie but I won't let him know about that, she thought.
Lifting her right claw to move her digits like a puppeteer moving a puppet, Volcanis controls the Magma Demon Knight this time and had it absorb its weapons into itself and open its jaw-like visor with a dragonic magic circle manifesting. "Magma Dragon's Roar!", she announced and unleashed a powerful magma blast through her construct at Natsu.
"Fire Dragon's Brilliant Flame!", the son of Igneel conjured a large fireball with both hands that summoned a magic circle and threw at the attack, causing a great explosion that stopped the magma breath attack in its tracks.
When the smoke clears, the magma knight charges towards the boy and throws a magma-empowered punch with a magic circle. "Magma Dragon's Eruption Fist!", Volcanis announced as her construct strikes Natsu and lands the blow.
"Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!", Natsu shouted as he threw his fire-empowered punch to intercept the blow and caused a shockwave of fire and magma, nearly buckling and the ground he stands on cracks into a web-like crater. Even though he is resistant to most heat and flames and possesses Dragon Slayer durability, Natsu felt the effects of magma affecting his hand before being pushed away the Magma Demon Knight.
"AAAAAAAHHHHH! THAT HURTS! WHY DOES IT HURT?!", he screamed in pain as he blows his hand steaming from the destructive clash.
"Because our powers are in a relationship of superiority, son of Igneel! Magma cancels fire out! You have a long way to go before you get to your father's level! In fact, I was one of his two powerful retainers! Myself and Atlas Flame the Hell Fire Dragon!", Volcanis explained with a boast as she directs her magma knight against the Fire Dragon Slayer.
"Igneel's retainers? Does that also mean friend too?", Natsu asked while trying to evade her construct's melee attacks.
Humming, the goopy looking Dragon shrugged as she replied. "Something like that. The king gave me a place by his side alongside Atlas Flame. The two of us are not exactly normal Dragons. We were seen as unnatural freaks by our kind because of my magma form and Atlas' flaming skeleton form. But that has changed when Igneel came along and I'm thankful for it."
Not going to tell him about my fallout with Igneel and my self-exile. The human boy is too young and innocent. I rather not taint his good memories of Igneel whom he held fondly., she internally remarked before controlling her construct to attack the young Fire Dragon Slayer.
"Enough about me! You should focus on how to beat my magma creation before it defeats you silly! I poured a tiny bit of my power into it. This shouldn't be too hard on you, hatchling!", she declares, egging him on and wanted to see more of his potential.
"DON'T UNDERESTIMATE ME! I'LL BEAT YOUR TOY TO OBLIVION! I'M ALL FIRED UP!", Natsu screamed in fiery will and determination that causes his Flames of Emotion to rise greatly as the intense aura of his Fire Dragon Slayer Magic explode around him wildly and smashed the magma knight in the schnoz, sending it flying and denting the helmet.
Getting up from the ground, the Magma Demon Knight retaliated by charging a concentrated attack at point blank range with a magic circle. "Magma Dragon's Focus Blast!", Volcanis announced as her creation unleashed it towards Natsu.
Instead of tanking it on, Natsu summoned a big magic circle on his feet expelling large amounts of fire to fly like a speeding rocket. "Fire Dragon's Jet Boosters!", he yelled and expertly dodged the energy blast from Volcanis' magma puppet. Coming in close range, Natsu flipped over and double kicked the magma creation in the face with his jet booster feet.
Her creation can no longer fire the attack and instead throws another magma-empowered punch against the son of Igneel in mid-air. "Magma Dragon's Eruption Fist!", Volcanis announced.
But, Natsu then grabs the Magma Demon Knight's arm and judo flipped it into the ground hard, causing a crater as a result.
Then, the son of Igneel creates intense, bursting flames from his elbow that manifested a magic circle, boosting his striking power of the corresponding bare punch he throws at his opponent. "Fire Dragon's Flame Elbow!", he then struck Volcanis' magma creation in the chest, causing a bigger shockwave and deepens the crater even before.
The Magma Demon Knight suffered a huge hole in the chest and is about to reform. Not letting it happen, Natsu grabs it with his hand while creating a magic circle and giving the attacking arm support with the other.
"Fire Dragon's Grip Strike!", the pink haired boy released a vast amount of explosive flames at point-blank range, burning the target.
The Magma Demon Knight has been defeated with its helmet and parts of the body are all that remains.
Volcanis could create another one and continue the fight much longer but for now, she is satisfied of the spectacle and decided to honor her deal. Slowly clapping with her claws, the Magma Dragon announced as she compliments him, "Well done, Natsu Dragneel. You really are the son of Igneel."
"Yup, I am! No measly puppet of yours can stop me! When I get stronger than Gildarts in the future, I will challenge you, Volcanis!", Natsu smiled with pride of a Dragon as he point his finger at the goopy Dragon.
"I don't know who this Gildarts is but he sounds like a very strong human whom you looked up to, isn't that right?", Volcanis pondered in curiosity.
Nodding happily, the Fire Dragon Slayer confirmed, "Yup, yup! Gildarts is super crazy strong! He is the Guild Ace of Fairy Tail! Once I'm old enough to take the S-Class Trials, I will challenge him and defeat him!"
"Very ambitious. Just like Igneel. That's how he was crowned the "Fire Dragon King" after he proved his strength to be the mightiest of Fire Dragons and our cousins.", the former retainer of the Fire Dragon King fondly noted before wondering. "Are you still looking for him, right?"
"Yup, yup, yup! Igneel must be around somewhere in Fiore or even other kingdoms on Ishgar. So I got to keep looking for him while going on an adventure, fight strong guys, beat up bad guys and make new friends!", Natsu replied with optimism and eagerness.
The apple really doesn't fall far from the tree even if you shake it hard enough. Even though Natsu Dragneel is a human, he really is the son of Igneel..., Volcanis thought before frowning in turn. I should go find Igneel and give him a piece of my mind for being a dick and leaving the human boy behind! King or not, he needs a good bonk on the head! And that I need to find out what was going on with this "Dragons are not extinct" nonsense.
Picking up what's left of the Magma Demon Knight with his shirt acting as a bag, Natsu called out to an old friend of Igneel, "Um, what are you going to do afterward, Volcanis? Will I see you again?"
"Maybe. Since you have technically finished the job of taking down the "Volcanic Demon", in short my construct, I will have to vacate this domain and find a new home somewhere else on Ishgar. We can't have nosy humans stumble here and find out my existence. You would be denied the money you need for your basic necessities if they thought you deceived them.", Volcanis explained.
Nodding in understanding, Natsu suggested. "Okay then! If you want, you can come with me to Fiore! You can make a new home there! Maybe even nearby Magnolia where Fairy Tail is!"
Contemplating, the Magma Dragon answered, "Thank you for the offer, hatchling. But I'm a Dragon made of magma. I can't live too close to humans and their homes. I am a literal walking disaster for a reason... However, I will consider your offer. Now go, claim your reward and take care of yourself."
"So you're like Gildarts but more destructive. Okay, I understand. Maybe I will come and visit you once I find you again. See ya later, Volcanis!", the pink haired boy said before leaving the Magma Dragon's domain to the outside world and claim his reward before returning home.
After the son of Igneel is gone, Volcanis starts to cool off her entire magma body into solid rock. She would almost be mistaken for a Rock Dragon if it weren't for some lingering magma underneath her cooled off rock body. The former retainer of the Fire Dragon King vacates her domain and started flying high into the skies of Earth Land where no one can spot her or look up above to see her.
"Godspeed, son of Igneel and we will meet again.", the Magma Dragon sent out a telepathic call to the pink haired boy who smiled happily after hearing her and went on his merry way.
A boy and the Magma Dragon, what a fateful meeting.
Author's Notes: Well, that's the end of chapter 1 of "A Boy and the Magma Dragon" and I hope you are interested of a Dragon being the main character of the story. Also, Volcanis did not know about the 400 Year Plan between the five Dragons (Igneel, Grandeeney, Metalicanna, Weisslogia and Skiadrum), Anna Heartfilia and Zeref Dragneel since she was deep asleep in her volcano domain and remained inside there the whole time, and she assumed that Igneel was being a dick to abandon Natsu as part of Dragon race's way of life.
Volcanis didn't know that Igneel really does love and care for Natsu (*feeling sad of his death by Acnologia's hand in Tartaros arc*) and inhabited his body to ensure that he won't Dragonize. And that she doesn't know about Atlas Flame being the founder and guardian of the Sun Village or the Five Dragon Gods (Ignia, Mercphobia, Aldoron, Selene and Viernes) who fled to Guiltina including Dogramag who is dead by Elefseria's hand but his corpse spawned the Great Labyrinth of Dogra.
The Magma Dragon doesn't know about Acnologia either for she was not involved in the Dragon King Festival or Dragon Civil War. But that will change, once she learns about him real soon.
Volcanis is an OC made by PhantomGalaxy13, author of "The Muggle Among Mages" and credits goes to him. Volcanis is mentioned in Chapter 38 of "The Muggle Among Mages" where Atlas Flame tells Natsu a story about the misadventures of Igneel, himself and Volcanis. He allowed me to let me use this character during PM discussion and that he has no plans for Volcanis other than being a one-off character mentioned.
