Bruno's Fish Prophecy

Daniela's parents had faith in him. "It will be fine." They said. "He'll see your future" they said.

"No mama. I don't want to see Spooky Bruno!" said the little 10 year old, clutching her fishbowl, Mr. Goldie swimming inside.

"Just go see him" replied her father. "He's a Madrigal. He only wants the best for us."

"Why should I see him? Nothing's wrong!"

"We just want to know for sure, mija"

So, giving Mr. Goldie to her parents, Daniela grudgingly went into the Bruno's room, stopping at the giant hourglass of falling sand.

"Knock knock knock knock knock. Knock on wood." Daniela turned to see Bruno knocking on his doorframe and head. Bruno walked on without a word to the hourglass. He held his breath, crossed his fingers, and stepped through the falling sand.

Daniela looked back to her parents. Her mom waved her on, and her dad gave a double thumbs up. Daniela turned, held her breath, closed her eyes, and went into the sand.

She felt herself slide down a sand dune. When Daniela opened her eyes, she looked up to almost endless cliffs above. No wonder Spooky Bruno's room was like this.

She stood up and dusted herself off. Bruno stood awkwardly next to a large stone, waiting for Daniela. "S-so, you ready to go?" He asked.

"Go? Go where!?" Daniela replied.

"uh. My prophecy room is up there." Bruno pointed up towards the spiraling cliffs.

"Up all those stairs!?" The staircase seemed to go on forever. And they were right on the cliff! What if she fell? Or Spooky Bruno pushed her off?

"We don't need to take the stairs. I can use my magic." Bruno threw his hood over his face. Daniela could see his eyes glowing underneath. Sand came around him, pushing him upwards so he was floating above the ground.

Daniela backed away. Bruno held out his hand to her, and using a different voice said "come with me Daniela. Do not be afraid." This was it. Bruno was gonna carry her super high and drop her. Daniela tried to run up the sand dune, but she couldn't get too far before sliding back to the bottom. She looked up at Bruno, hands covering her face.

Bruno lifted his hood a little. He looked at Daniela with those frightening glowing eyes. He lowered to the ground as his eyes dimmed to their natural brown. He took off his hood and started rambling. "Sorry, Sorry. Yeah, hah. It's too scary going up there. And it'll take too long and you probably want to leave cuz who'd want to be in a room like this right? So I guess I'll just do the prophecy real quick, and you can go home. Sorry for taking this long. Heh"

Daniela laid in shock as she watched Bruno make piles of leaves in the sand. He lit them on fire. Shadow and sand clouded the room. The sand swirled together, making a glowing green image of Daniela holding her fish tank happily. Then suddenly, the fish died.

That was it. That was the prophecy. A glowing slate appeared In Bruno's hands; the image of the little girl crying and holding her dead fish.

"Whelp, uh…. Sorry?"

She started crying and screaming. Mr. Goldie, her most prized possession and treasured friend, is gonna die and all this creep has to say is "sorry"?

Daniela stormed away. Up the sand dune and out of Spooky Bruno's room.

Her parents were waiting. "Hey how was it?" "Are you okay?" "What did he say?" Daniela didn't reply. She just took Mr. Goldie's fish tank and ran straight home.

She put Mr. Goldie on the table and started crying. She told him everything, sang their lullaby with tears, and fell asleep leaning on the table.

When she woke up… her fish was dead.

If Spooky Bruno hadn't said anything, if her parents hadn't made her talk to him, maybe Mr. Goldie would still be alive.

She resolved to carry the fish with her at all times. To remind Bruno and her parents of what they'd done.

And she did just that -until Mr. Goldie started smelling, then her parents made her throw it out-

But still! She carried his old fishbowl!

Even when Bruno disappeared, something in her knew he was still watching. She'd carry the bowl in her bag, prepared to show it to him or anyone else who dared to mention Spooky Bruno.
