A/N: We have fluff before the shit goes down ehehehehe

just a side note, there's a glossary down at the bottom for any words said in another language in the dialogue.

English is spoken as underlined words during dialogue in the story.

Growing up with two different childhood friends was tough, Shinichi could attest to that, having done exactly that since he was 7 and now he was 15. Especially if one of the mentioned two childhood friends was Hattori Heiji.

Not because they were fiancés or anything, as they had never really put a label on their relationship, or well — of course they called each other their fiancé, but that was just a title for an easier time explaining to people their parents knew. They were friends, best friends, betrothed, and also nothing like those at the same time. And it was confusing, so they never really tried to put a label on themselves.

It was more because Heiji was a huge baby and could throw temper tantrums like a toddler a quarter his age.

" Are you still giving me the silent treatment?" worded as a question, stated as a bland statement, typical Shinichi. Heiji knew the other boy had no tact, but even this was pushing it!

Heiji turned his head the other way as soon as Shinichi stood up to move to sit at his left, Heiji having stared at the wall in the other direction for a while now, feigning interest in one of the many old and weathered oil paintings hung on the walls of the traditionally built Victorian era house. He didn't want to see Shinichi's face at all!

" Come on now, I already said I'm sorry for ignoring you," Shinichi slammed his hardcover copy of Sherlock Holmes, Hound of Baskerville shut with a sharp sound, a mix between a thud and a click. Heiji didn't even have to look to know how gracefully Shinichi slid his ocean blue bookmark decorated with flower blooms and clouds, bought on a whim as a matching set for himself and Heiji, in between the pages he had stopped at, using one hand to close the book.

Heiji was so sure Shinichi could recite the whole book in one sitting with how much the other boy had read it. Two hundred and fifty-five times and counting. Two hundred and fifty-five.

Ellery Queen is better anyway.

" I said I'm sorry! I'll buy you fried tofu? Would that be a good peace offering?"

Heiji scoffed, rolling his eyes while he turned slightly to glance at Shinichi, his brows shifting into a deeper frown as he pouted.

" I'll add takoyaki to that offer?"

Heiji stilled, his hair ruffling slightly while the soft and translucent glow of a smooth Persian green gathered around his head and bottom back. He quickly shook his head and turned away.

" Aho, I won't be tempted by yer stupid offerin's!"

" I'll add a cup of Russian Caravan blended by Mikhail."

Now that got Heiji's attention alright. The green glow around his head and bottom back finally became opaque as smoke plumes poofed into existence before dispersing to show the pair of soft black-brow fox ears and three tails swaying side to side.

His excitement is patently seen in the way his tails swayed side to side almost like flags waving in the wind — a.k.a, very vigorously — despite his facade of indifference.

Heiji knew Shinichi won whatever game they were playing, and he could tell the other boy knew as well when he heard the quiet chuckling accompanying hands grabbing at his waist and pulling him backwards.

" Hehe, I won ma belle," Shinichi whispered, running his hands through Heiji's hair. The tanned boy couldn't help but sigh softly and sink into the warmth of Shinichi's embrace, the shorter boy's body heat and comfortable woollen sweater bringing in a sense of hominess and domesticity that Heiji had a hard time keeping his eyes open.

He didn't even yell out a protest at the feminine French nickname.

" I'm supposed to be mad at ya right now, Shin."

" Let go of your anger, mon doux."

Heiji grumbled, rolling his eyes and shuffled around to get into a comfortable position before becoming lax and resting his entire weight on Shinichi.

" Oi, if you're going to sleep, don't do it on me! You have a bed here for a reason, Heiji."

" Shhh — I'm busy tryin' ta nap and pretend ya ain't here. Be a good pillow and stay silent, 'kay?"

Now it was Shinichi's turn to roll his eyes.
