"I just don't get it, Chus. Why aren't I clicking with Mirabel?"

"Squeak."

"Like me and Abuela Mirabel are so close! We cook together, we talk all the time, heck I got her to start watching those Disney Movies I got from my trip to Bogata!"

"Squeak."

"You know by the reactions I'm getting I'm concerned that Abuela may not have been totally honest with me about her childhood."

"Squeak. Squeak."

Casandra groaned as she pulled the last of Mirabel's items she could find out of the water and squeezed the water out of the handkerchief, "Stupid boys."

The 17 year old girl did a little hop as she got out the river and shook her wet feet as she got on dry land. Cas rolled her pants down and slipped on her shoes, "I hope I got everything…"

Cas looked sadly at the small collection fabrics and the soaked diary. Then looked at the rat sitting next the items she collected, "Chus, what do you think I should do Mira, hates me?"

"Squeak."

There was a beat of silence.

"So helpful, Chus."

There was a crash of thunder and Cas looked to see little Antonio in the arms of his mother.

"Hey, Tia Pepa."

"Where is Mirabel?" Antonio asked looking around.

"Well…."

….

"Honestly, I don't mind," Isabela smiled, a genuine smile, as Abuela left Casita to talk to the Guzmans.

Abuela had relented that Bruno's visions were never wrong and went to see if she could switch the engagement from Isabela to Dolores.

Dolores was thrilled and Isabela was just relieved she was no longer engaged to Mariano.

Dolores gave Isabela a look and hummed as the door slammed open and before the older girls could react they saw Mirable run into Casita and ran straight into the nursery.

"Hump, whats wrong with her?" Isabela scoffed.

The other girl glared at her, "She was being bullied again."

Isabela paused and gave her a confused look, "Bullied? Again?"

….

Mirabel slammed her back against the door as tears streamed down her face.

It wasn't fair….

It wasn't fair….

It wasn't fair.

It wasn't fair!

"It's not fair!" She screamed as she slammed her fist into the floor.

Casita moved it's floor boards in concern.

Mirabel ignored her house and hugged her knees to chest.

It wasn't fair….

She was a Madrigal too…

…..

Julieta watched in amazement as Casandra's eyes lit up green and she raised her hand and the water seemed to disappear from the items on the table.

"That's impressive," Pepa commented as she handed Antonio a snack to calm him down more.

Cas sighed as she looked at the diary making sure the words weren't too smudged, "I guess. Most people don't like it. They say it's creepy."

Pepa shot Julieta a look. As if trying to say that is Bruno's daughter.

Julieta gave her a look of shut up before asking, "What happened with Mirabel?"

Cas looked very upset as she sat at the table in defeat, "She doesn't like me….I don't understand…."

"But you're cool! Chus says so!" Antonio said as he held up Cas' rat.

Julieta and Pepa looked at the rat in confusion as Cas while still looking upset cracked a smile at the boy, "According to my baby brother I'm the cooly-est. But Mirabel seemed put off by me helping with those bullies…"

Julieta sighed, "Mirabel has be going threw a lot later. Antonio's ceremony was a bad reminder and you showing up…."

Cas sat at the table quietly glancing up towards the stairs, towards the nursery door.

Pepa decided to ask a question remembering earlier, "You asked where Mirabel's door is…."

Cas looked at her aunt, "Yeah?"

"Why? She didn't get a gift. Br….Your father must have told you that," Pepe said thundering a little as she almost mentioned Bruno.

The girl looked upset again but in a different way the older women couldn't place, "I've seen Mirabel's door in….visions. A lack of gift doesn't mean no door."

Julieta stared at the girl for a long moment seeing a look in her eyes that she recognized all too well in a all the Madrigals eyes, The look growing up too soon, the look of too much responsibility too young, and one she had only see her mother's eyes, a look of deep loss.

"What does her door look like?" Julieta asked getting an inkling in the back of her mind.

Cas looked at her looking to be in deep thought. She stood up and gathered the items from the table and turned to leave, "Think real hard. Who else in the family doesn't have a gift."

She left the room leaving the women to think.

…..

Mirabel hurt the knocking but didn't answer the door.

She heard Cas muttered something about returning in stuff but didn't care.

She ignored Casita's gentle boards movements.

And she didn't see the cracks forming the corners of the nursery.

…..

In the walls Bruno, sighed as he looked at his sisters in the kitchen. She missed them, but he also wished they would be more proactive. Most people would be asking about their missing brother, or the woman that had tried to kill the girl, but no they listened to their mama and wouldn't talk about it till tonight.

Geez, he hoped this wouldn't blow up too bad.

…..

Hannah Jameson sighed as she continued laying in the hayloft hiding from the villages.

She needed a plan. She was back before Pedro was even born, she can't believe Casandra would do this to her.

Hannah knew a lot about the Madrigal family at this time. They told the story of the magic house family every year after all and her mother in law would ramble all the time about the family history.

Actually Hannah smiled as thought deeply, she may indeed have a plan as she remembered Mirabel talking about her grandmothers reaction to the house falling back then.
