Kleinhammer Chapter 16
**…** thinking
Farseer Faeryna
After some time, she finally made it out of the basement by climbing the stairs. It was a workout, but she and her fellow followers had the will to see it through. Together they slipped through a gap in the flimsily-made wooden trapdoor, the sack Alexander placed on it, did little to hinder their efforts, as there were many openings in the wood, that the sack did not block. And with this, they entered the living-room of the house.
The living-room had a unique atmosphere to it. The floor was covered by some cheap looking rugs, the walls were made out of worn-out bricks, a lonely light bulb was dangling from the ceiling. The oven in the corner of the room was keeping the room warm, even as the wind outside ravished the snow-covered forest. She could hear the wind clashing into the window just as good as she could hear the crackling of the flames.
"Start looking for useful information or useful items, but be very subtle about it. We can't afford to be caught by the human. It will make a bad impression if he sees us looking through his belongings."
The few Guardians nodded and began to split up. Meanwhile Faeryna decided to get a better look at the outside. For this, she climbed onto a table, and approached the sole window in the room. It only confirmed her suspicions. Her kin were somewhere deep in the woods. Somewhere really really cold. This in return means, that she is basically trapped in here, at least, as long as the weather doesn't get warmer.
**Unless…**
**…no she will not risk using her powers, at least not now. It is tempting, but she can not let her guard down, just because the cries of the damned have stopped! She is an eldar, and she won't fall as easily as the FOUR would surely want.**
Then suddenly a message reached her mind, telling her that one of her followers found something of interest. She quickly traveled to the requested destination. There was one of her Guardians and he motioned to a pictureframe standing on a piece of furniture.
"I think this picture might help us, in our quest to bring the human to our side." he said.
Indeed, there seemed to be a younger depiction of Alexander standing in front of a tractor. An even younger human, probably his son, was standing beside him, both can be seen laughing. The fact that Alexander has a son can certainly be used to influence the way he sees the eldar. She just needs to make sure that she carefully integrates this in the story she will present him with.
Tagor
Now that he has a clear goal, his mind begins to calm down. He informed the few troopers at his side of the task the Emperor blessed them with and started to make his way up. He biggest concern was, that he loses his target, as he could not see her anymore, but something inside him told him, that Farseers fate has been sealed. The Emperor has seen to it.
At least that's what he has convinced himself of.
Inquisitor Ferdiant
After he finished talking to Tagor, the Inquisitor allowed himself to smirk. Then his face turned stern again when he remembered the news Tagor brought.
"So the eldar made their move first", The Inquisitor said aloud, without addressing anyone specifically.
Now that the Farseer has distanced herself from her camp, there is a short window of time, he can use to eradicate the weakened Eldar-encampment. Of course, he would anger Alexander by breaking the ceasefire, but it did not matter all to much, as he had already decided to kill him as well. The Inquisitor also did not doubt, that Alexander would sooner or later commit heresy and ally himself with the foes of mankind. Ferdinant knew all to well, that it was better to face the inevitable, but he would do so on his terms.
Standing around him were the few surviving sergeants that commanded the Pdf-Forces, the Space Marine who would lead the last of his kind in Tagors absence and a group of his personal inquisitorial Stormtroopers.
"We will not let this opportunity pass by", The Inquisitor finally exclaimed "In exactly 1 hour we will advance upon the enemy. Prepare your men, there will be no falling back." He told them in a determined voice.
With this, he dismissed all but the sergeants.
The PDF was not made to advance upon a fortified enemy. He knew that perfectly well. Not once did he witness how easily one can beat these underequipped and poorly trained soldiers in an open engagement. In most cases, the single deciding factor in these battles had been morale. They just weren't trained to take a beating like the Imperial Guard regularly does.
As such, he feared that the PDF could quickly crumble under the concentrated fire of the Eldar. Of course, he could always just hope for the best, but the Inquisitor wasn't really someone who would let something as fragile as hope, decide his fate.
He looked at the individuals in front of him, piercing their very souls with his all-seeing gaze. The huge amount of experience he accumulated during his service, allowed him to accurately evaluate the humans in front of him. Luckily one of those in front of him, a bulky man with a long unkept beard and a scar at his lower jaw, seemed to be mildly competent. Behind his appearance was someone with potential, the Inquisitor believed. While his beard was unkept, his posture was radiating a confident, but humble aura. His eyes were clear of any doubt and full of purpose.
"Name?" The Inquisitor simply stated.
"Sergant Gorol, my Lord. I am to your service." He answered in a deep, almost Ogryin-like voice.
"Segant Gorol, I have just chosen you to oversee this whole operation. You will gather the men, tell them about the importance of this operation and ensure that that they will continue their advance, even under heavy fire. Do it in any way you like. You can promise them riches, glory or simply a way out of this strange predicament. I will see to it, that everybody taking part in this advance will be humbly rewarded, should we make it out alive."
"Does this sound like something you can pull of?" The Inquisitor proceeded to ask
"Is there something for me there as well?" This ogryn-like-man asked jokingly, startling the other sergants present.
"An opportunity to prove yourself to me."
Gorol lowered his head slightly, now completely serious "Then I will give my best, my Lord. "
"You will."
