Chapter Seven: The Other Daughter Returns Part 1.
At a police station in Chicago, it's a busy night, criminals and cops around, sitting on a bench, in handcuffs, is a young girl, who's probably about 16 years old, she looks more like her mother, but has brown hair like her father, a cop approaches her.
Cop - Is your name Betsy Rockwell?
Betsy - Yeah?
Cop - Get up.
The girl gets up, he takes the cuffs off her, and they walk to a desk, someone is there talking to a cop. She knows the man.
Cop - This the girl your looking for?
Rocco - Yeah, that's her.
Cop - What's your relationship to the suspect?
Rocco - I work for her Father.
Betsy - Step-Father.
Rocco - Whatever.
Cop - Sign here.
The man signs some paperwork, then he hands a stuffed envelope to him, the cop opens it, and looks inside.
Cop - Thanks. Tell Vic to call in the morning.
Rocco - Will do.
The man turns to Betsy.
Rocco - Come on.
They leave the police station.
They're in a car, Rocco is driving.
Rocco - You know your parents are gonna be upset with you.
Betsy - What else is new?
Rocco - I'm just saying.
She remains silent.
Rocco - Thank god I never miss a child support payment.
They pull into a gated community, it's a nice neighborhood, they drive up to a nice looking house that looks expensive, the car pulls up to the front, both of them get out, and walk up the steps to the front door, Rocco knocks on the door, someone answers it, it's a man, probably in his late fifties, he's bald, and doesn't look too happy to see her.
Vic - Hey, Rocco.
Rocco - Sorry to bug ya, Vic.
He looks at Betsy, and gives her a disappointing look.
Vic - Well, well, look what the cat dragged in.
She gives him an ugly look.
Vic - Go inside.
She walks past him, and goes inside the house.
Vic - Did you take care of it?
Rocco - Yeah. No problem.
Vic - Thanks.
Rocco - Cop says to call him in the morning.
Vic - I'll do that.
Rocco - Goodnight, Vic.
The man leaves, Vic closes the door.
In the house, a woman is coming down the stairs, she's in her robe, she notices her Daughter, and runs to her.
Brooke - What happened?
Vic - Probably the same things she got arrested for the last few times that she's come home late.
Betsy - Glad to know that you're still keeping count, Cue Ball.
Vic - Watch your mouth, little girl.
Betsy - Oh, what are you gonna do, ground me again? Cut my allowance in half?
Brooke - Don't talk to your father like that.
Betsy - He's not my father!
Brooke - Elizabeth Victoria, get upstairs, and go to bed, now.
She pouts, and goes upstairs to her room, slamming the door shut.
Vic - Spoiled brat.
Brooke - Don't call her that, Vic.
Vic - I told ya, we should've sent her ass to boot camp the moment she started acting out.
Brooke - Just let me go talk to her.
Vic - Not so fast, we've done things your way, now we're doing it my way.
Brooke - What's that supposed to mean?
Vic - I'm sick and tired of her bad behavior, I don't want our kids around her.
Brooke - Well, what do you recommend?
Vic - Send her away for the summer.
Brooke - Where?
Vic - A town that you know very well. Point Place, Wisconsin.
Brooke - No! We have no reason to send her there!
Vic - Her Dad lives there!
Brooke - No! I won't allow it! I don't want her around any of those people.
Vic - Those people!? You grew up there.
Brooke - And I left.
Vic - Just because you and ya Mother left that place, doesn't make y'all better than everyone else.
Brooke - Vic.
Vic - Either way, I'm done with her crap! Next screw-up, I'll leave her in the jail cell.
He goes upstairs to their bedroom, Brooke goes off to the kitchen area.
In the kitchen, Brooke is getting a glass of water, she goes to sit at the table for a while, thinking. In a way, Vic is right, Betsy has been getting into too much trouble, this past year has been kind of frustrating, things between her and Betsy have been getting strained lately, even to the point where Betsy went to go stay at her Grandmother Carolyn's home for a few days on purpose, only returning because Carolyn was going out of town, Vic was starting to get tired of her misbehavior, and to be honest Brooke was also tired of it, maybe this is the right decision, perhaps time spent away is the thing she needs, for the summer?, permanently? This is a tough decision to make.
At the Kelso Household, Jackie is in bed, watching a rerun episode of Seinfeld.
Jackie - Oh, come on, Seinfeld, just lock the door, and Kramer won't come bursting in.
The telephone is ringing, Jackie answers it.
Jackie - Hello?
Brooke (on phone) - Jackie, it's Brooke.
Jackie - Brooke! how are you?
Brooke (on phone) - I'm fine. How's Michael and the kids?
Jackie - They're doing just great. How are things in Chicago?
Brooke (on phone) - Okay.
Jackie - Is something wrong?
Brooke (on phone) - It's Betsy.
Jackie - What happened?
Brooke (on phone) - She's been misbehaving, and we've decided to send her to Point Place for awhile.
Jackie - Really? That's great.
Brooke (on phone) - She's not happy about it.
Jackie - Don't worry, she's just a teenager.
Brooke (on phone) - She doesn't want to stay with y'all. she wants to go to Michael's parents house.
Jackie - Really?
Brooke (on phone) - Yes, she doesn't want anything to do with Michael.
Jackie - Don't worry, I'll talk to her. She'll listen to me.
Brooke (on phone) - Good luck with that, it's like talking to a brick wall.
Jackie - Thanks, bye.
She hangs up. The bedroom door opens, it's Kelso, he's in his police uniform.
Kelso - Hey, baby.
Jackie - Hi, Michael.
Kelso - I just put the kids to bed.
Jackie - Good.
He starts getting out of his uniform, and into his pajamas.
Kelso - Who called?
Jackie - It was Brooke.
Kelso - Really? What did she want?
Jackie - It was about Betsy.
Kelso - Betsy? What happened?
Jackie - She's been getting in trouble, and they're sending her here.
Kelso - That's good. I can try to spend time with her.
Jackie - That's the problem, she wants to stay at your parents house, instead of with us.
Kelso - I guess she's still mad at me. Our last phone conversation wasn't pleasant.
Jackie - Why is she mad at you?
Kelso - I don't know, she's a teenage girl, and teenage girls hate their father. Or in my case, absentee father.
Jackie - It's not your fault, Michael.
Kelso - I know, Brooke's mother never liked me.
Jackie - I thought she did.
Kelso - She lied, she was the reason why things didn't work out between me and Brooke, she pressured her into marrying my old boss, Vic.
Jackie - Why was that?
He gets into bed.
Kelso - He had money, a lot of businesses, and that's pretty much it. Plus, he drove a Cadillac.
Jackie - Is he still rich?
Kelso - Yeah. the playboy club may be gone, but he still has his other business ventures. I think he owns a car dealership, how could I compete?
Jackie - That's her loss, because you are a catch.
Kelso - Thanks, Jackie.
They kiss.
Kelso - Wanna do it?
Jackie - Yes.
They get under the covers.
In her Bedroom, Betsy is laying on her bed, thinking, the last 24 hours had been a blast, but she has no recollection on how she ended up at the police station again, this isn't the first time she's been in handcuffs, luckily for her, she's never had to be locked up, which is mainly due to the influence of her mother's husband, and her Grandmother having friends in high places, her bedroom door opens, Brooke enters.
Betsy - What do you want, Brooke?
Brooke - It's Mom.
Betsy - What do you want?
Brooke - I want to talk to you.
She gets up from her bed, and turns away.
Betsy - What's there to talk about?
Brooke - Your behavior lately.
Betsy - What about it?
Brooke - Look, Betsy, your father and I decideā¦.
She turns around, and faces her mother.
Betsy (interrupting) - He's not my father!
Brooke - Don't you ever interrupt me again, young lady.
The both of them stare at each other, exchanging mean glares.
Brooke - As I was saying, we decided that you need a change of scene.
Betsy - What do you mean?
Brooke - I mean that you're gonna go spend the summer somewhere else instead of here.
Betsy - Like where?
Brooke - Point Place.
Betsy - That place? Why?
Brooke - You're gonna go spend some time with your father.
Betsy - Why? I don't know the man.
Brooke - And this is your opportunity to get to know him.
Betsy - You want me to waste my summer, and spend it with someone I don't know, instead of being here with my friends? You're crazy.
Brooke - Your so called "friends" left you at the police station.
Betsy - That's because their parents bailed them out immediately, your husband took his time sending someone to come get me.
Brooke - Look, You're going to Point Place, and that is final.
Betsy - Ugh! Fine! But I'm staying at Grandpa and Grandma's house.
Brooke - Enjoy the rest of the weekend, your bus leaves Monday morning.
With those words, Brooke leaves the room, Betsy lays back down on her bed, she turns on her television, and watches MTV.
