And we're back, with another idea!
A World Out of Sync
(Inspired by Amphibia and The Owl House)
Remnant has changed.
Or rather, Remnant has been changed.
Where malicious Grimm once roamed the wildlands, now beasts of myth and legend stalk its plains and forests. The continents have been reshaped and shifted. A dozen kingdoms, none of them Vale or Atlas or Vacuo or Mistral, laid scattered across its lands. Magic has replaced aura and semblances. Technology and the arcane arts have been weaved and woven together into a bizarre tapestry. Humans and Faunus are not the only creatures to walk amongst the walls of the world, accompanied by the likes of Elves and Orcs and Dragons.
Remnant has changed...
And only Ruby Rose remembers how it was before.
Born to a peasant Human mother by the name of Summer Rose, and into a peasant town known as Needle in the network of communities called the Patchwork, Ruby Rose is plagued by dreams of a Remnant that once was, of Grimm and relics and kingdoms that should not exist yet somehow do. Her mind is rattled with images of Hunters and schools and a fall and-
And when a beast of legend - a wild Troll - attacks her town, she unlocks the powers in her dreams and defeats it all by herself.
Suddenly remembering most of the life that had come before her - losing her mother, living with Yang and Tai, going to Beacon, the fall of Atlas, and then finally falling into the void - Ruby embarks on a grand quest to reunite with her friends, both living and once dead - and figure out what happened to the world that she once called Remnant.
To the far west of the continent of New Hope, Yang Xiao Long and her mother, Raven Xiao Long, belong to a kingdom of barbarians, surrounded by a lawless frontier of raiders and scavengers. It is a land where the law of survival rules above all else, and it is here where Yang lives and thrives with glee.
To the far east, the Nikos Dynasty finds themselves locked in a trading war with a commercial empire. The Schnee Conglomerate has been eating trading posts and port town across the eastern shores of the Wildmage continent for years, nipping at the heels of a sleeping giant until it awakens. Now Princess Pyrrha Nikos, soon to be empress of a massive empire, wages a war of words against Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Conglomerate and all its holdings, the both of them equally ruthless in the world of politics and war.
But the Schnee Conglomerate is but a shadow of their progenitor, the Empire of Metal, a city so concerned with science and technological pursuit that it has become their religion. It's High Priest, Pietro Polendina, and his daughter Penny, preach a faith of altruism and kindness, but there are those in their walls that would use their faith and knowledge for their own ends.
In the Elven forests of the Highlands, Blake finds herself as a symbol of unity amongst the rest of the Elves dark and light, plagued by the treacherous whispers of Sienna Khan and the Albain brothers and the fanatical ravings of Adam Taurus. Aided by her parents in Kali and Ghira and assisted by Ilia and Sun from the Faunus settlements under their protection, Blake finds herself trapped in a web of machinations both for and against her, all of them using her for their own ends.
In the Untamed Wilds, Nora and Ren are stranded in a land of outcasts and castaways, filled with Dark Elves and Orcs and Faunus and Dwarves and so on. Hiding away with the Faunus Velvet from raiders and villagers, the two castoffs find themselves as the protectors of the community that adopted them as their own.
Across the continents, a young kingdom is growing evermore stronger. The Kingdom of Arcadia, headed by the House of Arc, is spreading its influence across the world, headed by the young prince known as Jaune Arc as they lead the nations of man into a better tomorrow...
And faraway, in the Blightlands, an ancient evil stirs...
One by one, Ruby Rose gathers her friends and family as she travels this new, strange world, exploring new sights and going on new adventures and discovering a web of mysteries that lie at its heart, trying to piece together how falling into the void had brought her here, and how she could get back home.
However, she soon discovers that Cinder has somehow arrived in this new world as the Queen of the Blightlanders, a ravenous army of monsters at her command. Not only that, but it was the power of the relics that had changed the world, though she doesn't have any memory of how or why this came about.
Soon, Ruby and her allies find themselves in the throne room of Cinder, ready to bring her down and return the world to normal. However, Cinder herself, while having some knowledge of the world that came before, reveals that she was not the one who changed the world.
The real culprit is Jaune Arc, who remembers everything that happened in the old world.
It is revealed that when they fell into the void, Jaune's mind broke from the trauma of losing Pyrrha and having to kill Penny, and unlike the others, he was not able to heal from these wounds. When they escaped the void, he went off on his own and gathered the relics himself, wishing to rewrite the world and wipe away all his mistakes, allowing him to bring back everyone who has died and giving him the opportunity to give everyone a fresh start, a new life, and a new chance to make something good out of their lives.
In his mind, he's saving everyone. In their minds, they're all horrified by what he has done and how he was willing to erase and replace everything just to run away from his past mistakes and the guilt that came with them.
Now with a new mission in hand, Ruby must travel the world once more to find and unite the lost relics and undo the mistakes of the past, all with a ruthless enemy on her heels.
And as she goes across the world, she must ask herself a difficult question...
Does she have the right to end one world, just to replace it with another?
For those who are reading this on FF, I've been writing smut fiction one-shots on Ao3, mostly based around RWBY but featuring - as of right now - two other franchises as well. If you guys could go check them out please, that would be grand of you. Thanks a lot if you do.
