Welcome back to A Song of Spiders and Dragons. Last time, the battle against the Kingpin finally occurred, and after a lot of hits taken and being thrown through a few walls and floors, Spyro, Cynder, and Spider-Man emerged victorious, taking Kingpin into custody! So, now that the enemy is bested, what's going to happen? Read on to discover...
(The scene begins with Kingpin being perp-walked to a police van, trying his damnedest to save face as the public looks on, but then Spyro, Cynder, and Spider-Man land on the roof of the van)
Spyro: Finally off to Rikers Island, I see.
Cynder: I hear the ocean climate is wonderful this time of year.
Spider-Man: Plus, I'm pretty sure you've got more enemies in there than we do.
Kingpin: If any of you think this'll be more than a minor inconvenience...
Cynder: I'd love to hear the end of this, but we've got to get moving.
Spyro: So long, Fisk!
Spider-Man: And good luck, you'll need it!
Kingpin: (Finally losing his composure) YOU IDIOTS! I'M THE ONE WHO KEPT ORDER IN THIS CITY! ONE MONTH! IN ONE MONTH YOU'LL BE BEGGING TO HAVE ME BACK!
(But his rage is unheard as Kingpin is thrown into the back of the van, while our trio of heroes swings and flies over the New York Skyline, rendezvousing at the top of the Chrysler Building)
Spider-Man: So, Kingpin is finally off to prison.
Spyro: It's the end of an era.
Cynder: Sounds like something worth celebrating.
(But before they can make any plans, Spider-Man's phone rings again, and it's work, causing all three to start moving urgently.)
Octavius: Peter, please tell me your business at the Embassy is done. The grant committee's going to be here any minute! We need to run an equipment check!
Spider-Man: I'm almost to the office, Doc. Couple of minutes max, and Spyro and Cynder are with me.
Octavius: I'll get started on the equipment check, but please, get here soon!
Spyro: Hold on, Doctor Octavius, that stuff is still experimental! It takes two to check safely!
Octavius: I can only hold off the checks for so long!
Cynder: No worries, Doc. We can see the building now.
(And true to their word, they're nearing a seemingly random building, but as Spider-Man changes out of his suit and into a lab coat of some kind, the group hangs up)
Spider-Man: Got to love Doc's enthusiasm, but sometimes he just can't help but get himself in trouble.
(And now we see the significance of this building, for inside on one of the upper floors is Octavius Industries, a research facility run by Doctor Otto Octavius, and Spider-Man's current employer, which our trio of heroes rushes into, finding Doctor Octavius in a harness with cables protruding from it in four familiar angles testing something on the desk, revealed to be a prosthetic arm)
Octavius: Ah, there you are!
Spider-Man: Again, sorry for being so late.
Octavius: Figured you got held up by the chaos downtown. Heard they finally arrested Wilson Fisk. So no worries this time.
Spyro: You started the test without us?
Octavius: I invented this equipment, I think I can handle it.
(And of course, just as Doctor Octavius says that, something goes wrong as a bank of computers starts short circuiting)
Spider-Man: The power dampeners!
(With that, the three rush in to try and stop a meltdown, with Spider-Man manning the main computers)
Spider-Man: Probably a good idea to abort!
Octavius: Not yet, I'm still hooked up to this thing!
(As Doctor Octavius tries to slip out of this contraption, a shock runs through the wires and seemingly into his neck, just as Spyro hits the abort button while Cynder disconnects him)
Spider-Man: Are you alright, Doc?
Octavius: A minor setback. (With slightly more enthusiasm) But we're close. I can feel it in my bones!
(And of course, because typical Parker luck, this is when the committee decides to come in and sees the smoke everywhere)
Committee Member: Is anybody hurt?
Spider-Man: No. This is on me, it's my...
Octavius: The energy levels exceeded expectations. From a certain point of view, that's a pretty positive development.
Committee Member: The smell says otherwise. Is there somewhere a little less smoky we can discuss this?
Octavius: We do have the back office. (To Spider-Man) Maybe you three should take the rest of the day. (To Spyro and Cynder) Given the busy afternoon at Fisk Tower, I'd say double for you two. We'll discuss next steps tomorrow.
(Spider-Man is clearly hesitant to take the suggestion, but ultimately relents and leaves, with Spyro and Cynder following behind him, also hesitant, but understanding, as our tale ends for today)
And that looks like a good spot to wrap up for today. Just another incident of typical Parker luck at work. Kind of karmic balance after the Fisk takedown went so well, I guess. So, what happens now that our trio is free for the afternoon? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
