Chapter 76
We had almost reached the house when we were passed by the twins and Grace. "Where are you going?"
"To Yaya's Mom said she needed some peace and quiet to talk about the epic prank." Zoe replied giggling.
Harry circled above head and followed the trio towards our Grandma's hut. Wondering if Daphne would be there, I sighed heavily. Daphne had finally gotten better about certain things within the tribe but we would never be best friends and if we weren't related, I doubted if we'd even be friends. Eve sighed too and I imagined she was thinking the same thing as me.
"I hate that Daphne is going to know that Mom felt the need to kick them out of the house to talk to us." She finally said.
"Me too," I sighed and held Eve's hand. "At least you and I can kick her collective ass if we need to.
Eve giggled. "Oh yeah." Her grin spread ear to ear. "It's not that I don't like her, but she can still get too full of herself. I wish she'd just ease off a bit, ya know?"
"I know, little bit. Believe me, I know." Seeing the house come into view, I dropped her hand and looked down at her. "Follow my lead."
Getting a nod of confirmation I began to jog towards the house causing Eve to run to keep up with me. Running up the steps to the house we entered in a loud clammer of noise and began to head up the stairs as fast as possible until a loud "Halt!" was heard from Mom's study as I knew it would be. "Where do you two think you're going?"
"Comfy clothes, Mom" I replied looking at Eve.
"Yeah, Mom. We're going to put on our house clothes. Give us a few minutes please." Eve's blue eyes pleaded with Mom for understanding and Mom nodded slowly.
"You have fifteen minutes to get changed and back in my study." Turning, she walked back into her office, her fifteen minute timeline telling me that our mother was present and her Amazon headdress telling me that the queen would be here too.
Sighing heavily, I turned around and pushed Eve up the stairs. "Come on, little bit, she gave us all of fifteen minutes. We'd better hurry."
"Who did?" Eve asked me.
"Mom." I replied.
"Our mom, the queen, wouldn't have let us get changed." I explained. "Now, hurry up and get changed then meet me back in my room."
"You got it, Sam." Eve took off running as did I. We were now sitting in my closet and were trying to prep ourselves for what lie ahead.
"What do you think she'll do?" Eve asked me.
"I'm not sure, little bit, but I'd suggest you pay attention. The last time I let my mind wander I ended up with no Halloween and it was the last time before I ended up back here."
She nodded and confirmed she was listening to me, "Got it, Sam. I'll listen to her. What do we say about the prank?"
"You let me talk about the prank, little bit." I scrubbed my hand down my face and looked at my timer on the phone. Seeing we only had a few minutes left, I talked faster. "I will explain our reasoning and how Amina will go home with a better understanding of how things of how things are done in our village around the harvest festival. Also of how it was genius of her to invite the other tribes during that time. Not like she could predict that they'd come early. Right?"
Hearing the alarm go off, Eve began to head downstairs and the funeral march began once again. Chuckling despite our situation, I wondered if Auntie had timed the funeral march to our moods or just was paying close attention to us and our close proximity to getting our justice with Mom.
Entering the study, we stopped short. Mama had joined Mom and we saw both pacing. "Damn it, Gabrielle, I'm telling you this was just a great start to prank week. How were we to know they'd come early?"
Hearing Mom sigh, Eve and I clasped hands again and entered the room. "Mom, Mama?" I asked as we entered.
Stopping their pacing Mama pointed to the couch and Eve and I sat next to each other as they sat in the chairs across from us. Mom speaking first. "Okay, girls, tell me what you were thinking."
"That this was an epic prank." Eve's voice was excited and I shook my head slowly. "We just wanted to start the prank wars off right." She amended looking at me.
I nodded and looked at Mom to see if she was buying it. "Like I told you, I was tired of feeling like a third mother." Taking a deep breath, I decided to go for broke. "I wanted to just be her big sister again and do something fun that wouldn't entail killing gods and maybe forget for a little bit that next year would mean my birthday would be replacing Athena on Olympus and this was my last birthday before all the shit hit the fan. Literally." Ducking my head as Mom yelled my name and Mama chuckled. I grinned and continued. "This seemed like something little bit and I would do in the future but at least there we'd use water balloons and not condoms."
Mom and Mama nodded. "Where did you get condoms anyway, Sammy?"
"Zivah and Andy." Eve spoke before I could answer. "Mama made them for when they feel, what is it Auntie says, frisky."
Feeling myself blush as Mom took a deep breath before growling, "Xena…."
"What? You don't want any little Amazons or warriors running around do you?" Mama asked.
"What do they mean, Sam?" Eve whispered none to quietly to me. "Sam?"
Trying to hold my laugh unsuccessfully I whispered back, "I'll tell you later, little bit."
"Okay. Just don't forget."
"Sam!" Mom's voice was panicked. "You will not tell her later."
"Don't worry, it will all be age appropriate. Besides, Auntie explained it all to me. Who do you think will really be filling little bit in on her questions? You didn't make the goddess of love my Goddess Mother for nothing you know." I rolled my eyes at both of my mothers and felt the slap to my knee from my warrior mother. "Sorry, Mama, too cocky?"
She nodded. "Just a little bit. I'd rather have this chat with Trouble myself, thank you."
I shrugged. "Suit yourself."
"Can we all focus?" Eve asked. "I'd like to know what's going to happen to Sam and me about the prank. Are we in trouble or not?"
"That depends," Mom's voice turned serious once more. "What were your intentions?"
"It's like I told you. We just wanted to have some fun and start off prank week right. Not like we wanted to hurt anyone. Also, how were we to know that Amina and Goldilocks' gang would be here a week early? Genius idea by the way, inviting the other villages the week of prank wars and the harvest festival."
"Though I heard that Amina wasn't pleased with being initiated into the pranks." Mom stated.
"Not until she understood how much Artemis loved the pranks and thought it was great that Adia almost got Xena but got her instead. That was the entire point of the prank wars. In fact, that was the goal of this prank war… for the junior warriors to feel more confident and comfortable in their skin and nailing you and Mama, and Aunt Eponin,"
"And whomever else, the junior staff warriors nailed!" Eve interjected.
Shoving her with my shoulder, I spoke again. "I have this, little bit. It's like Eve said, whomever the little ones managed to nail, they loved it today."
Mom stood up finally and started to pace. Eve and I looked at Mama who merely shrugged. I knew we were close to getting a free pass but right now, it could go either way. "Mom?" Eve couldn't help herself, she was too much like Mama and me at that age to wait long.
Turning Mom looked at her. "Yes, Eve?"
"So, what did you decide? Are our backsides toast?"
Mama choked on her laugh and I groaned. "If they weren't they are now, little bit." I moaned.
"Why? What did I say?" She asked in genuine confusion.
"Toast?" I pushed her off the couch. "You had to ask if our asses were toast? What the hell is wrong with you, Eve?"
"Me? What's wrong with you? Don't get tired of being patient when she's in one of those, torture your kids with pacing moods?"
"Of course I do, but at least I have the sense the gods gave a goose!"
Hearing Mama clear her throat, we both stopped our bickering and twin uh-ohs came from our mouths at the same time.
Looking down at Eve, I extended my hand and helped her stand before standing myself. I then made the mistake of looking at Mom before catching a glimpse of Mama who was trying hard not to laugh at our predicament. "Now, Mom." I started.
"Yeah, Mom." Eve added. "We're sorry, our brains didn't want to keep up with us. Our mouths decided to work before our brains…"
"Could tell our mouths to shut up." I finished for her still holding her hand, I whispered. "We're still in this together, little bit."
She looked up and me and squeezed my hand. I saw Mama nod in approval and thought I glimpsed a quick smile on Mom's face. "Alright, ladies, front and center." The queen was definitely present but our mom was there as well and for that, I was grateful. I wondered who would be punishing us and for which transgression. We took our places in front of her and waited.
"Okay, ladies, let's see our order of business this evening." She began to tick off on her fingers. "First the prank," she held up her hands to stop our protests before they started. "Yes, it was epic, and I understand your reasoning behind it. I also understand you couldn't have predicted that Regina's tribe would show up early. Still, you technically started the prank wars a week early. Secondly, the disrespect just shown here by both of you is not something to be let go. Eve, I appreciate your lack of patience but calling out your own mother while she is trying to decide what to do while you wait is never a good idea and Samina, calling your sister out on her having not such a good idea in the way you did it was not only not a good idea, but it was not the best way to do it. Both of you showed poor judgement in this matter." Noticing our hands still clasped she said nothing but nodded at how we held them. "I am impressed, however with how you still have each other's backs and that will serve you well as you grow. Not only as true blood sisters but as sisters in the tribe.
"Now, to move on to the next step I think it's time to let you what I have decided to do and let you two in on my decision since I'm finally out of my, how did you put it, Eve? My torture your children by pacing mood. Well, let's just say that I think a little thinking time in the corner and some time over my knee will serve you both well. This is a combined punishment, girls. The prank, the mouths, the attitudes, and the talking back to your mother."
"Damn." Eve muttered.
"Eve Anastastia corner." Mom directed. "I'll start with your sister."
"Damn." Eve muttered again.
"Stop while you're ahead, little bit." I whispered.
Rolling her eyes at me, Eve nodded and headed to the nearest corner as we all looked hearing the funeral durge following her.
"What the?" Mama trailed off and then whispered. "Aphrodite, that's enough." The music suddenly stopped and I giggled as Mom pulled out a straight backed chair left in her office just for this purpose.
Mama moved towards me and bent slightly to give me a hug and kiss to the top of the head. "We'll talk later, Sam."
I nodded and watched as she moved to Eve and knelt in front of her before hugging her second oldest and giving her a well needed kiss before heading out of the room. Turning back to the corner Eve's impending doom could be heard through her sniffles and I remembered back to my time at her age and wondered if I truly was ever that young. Shaking the thought from my head I waited for instructions from Mom and waited.
"Samina, tell me why we are here."
"Because Eve and I decided to come up with one hell of a prank," I began and then noticing the look on her face, I dialed it back a notch. "And because of doing so, Amina was hit with a water balloon, but in our defense, we had no idea Regina's Amazons would come early. Oh and our attitudes were a little out of control," I continued. "Not to mention that I truly encouraged Eve with the way I spoke about everything in regards to your pacing and patience."
Mom nodded and pulled me over her lap as she had finally taken a seat in the chair behind her and in front of me. Placing my hands on the floor in front of me, I tried to get comfortable on Mom's short lap but was unable to do so without feeling as if I was almost ready to fall off her lap. Grabbing me tightly with her left hand around the waist. Mom brought her sword hand up and down on my still sore backside repeatedly. I found it didn't take much to reawaken the fire from my earlier staff lesson and wondered if her hairbrush would make an appearance and for my bottom's sake, I hoped it wouldn't just because it already felt sore enough from the staff practice . Happy that Artemis didn't feel the need to heal me from the 2nd fight on my birthday.
