The next day, Steve was coming out of the ocean when he saw Joan and her boyfriend Mike arrive to spend the day with him, Catherine and Kevin.
"Hi uncle Steve!" Joan smiled and waved to him
"Hey!" Steve replied. He smiled at her too.
"Mike and I came to spend the day here with you guys if you don't have any commitments."
Steve hugged her. "We don't have any commitments, honey."
"Good morning uncle Steve," Mike held out his hand to him.
Steve shook Mike's hand gently. "Good morning, Mike."
"Where's Aunt Catherine?" Joan asked.
"She's probably still sleeping but I'll go wake up her. It's about time Kevin woke up too," Steve replied.
"No need to wake her up, Uncle Steve. Let her rest."
"She won't mind if I wake her up, quite the opposite, she'll be mad if she knows you were here and I didn't wake her up. Come on, I'll get breakfast ready."
Steve woke Catherine up and she went downstairs to the living room to hug Joan and Mike. "I'm so glad you guys came!"
"Thank you, Aunt Catherine."
"What about Mary, she didn't want to come?" Catherine asked.
"She said she would come later and that she is still tired ," Joan replied.
"I understand. I hope she will come for lunch."
"What are we going to do for lunch, Cath?" Steve asked.
"I'm going to order lunch, Steve. We'll enjoy the day without having to go into the kitchen."
Steve kissed her on the cheek, "All right. I'll take a quick shower and be right back."
"Did you swim today?" Catherine asked.
"Yes," he replied and went upstairs.
"Make yourselves comfortable," Catherine said to Joan and Mike.
"What time does Kevin usually wake up?" Joan asked.
"He's still having his habits a little altered because of the time zone. I'll call him if he doesn't wake up in the next two hours," Catherine replied.
Steve returned to the living room a few minutes later and had breakfast with Catherine, Joan and Mike. Then they went swimming and Catherine quickly cleaned the house while waiting for Kevin to wake up.
"Mommy Cath!" Catherine heard Kevin call to her from his room.
Catherine smiled at him as he entered the room. "Good morning, dear."
"Good morning," Kevin replied as he stretched. Catherine sat on the bed and kissed his forehead.
Kevin hugged her and kissed her cheek. "Where's Daddy?"
"Daddy's at the beach with Joan and Mike."
"Can I go there mommy?"
"Of course you can my love. Just don't get away from Daddy and don't go in the water alone," Catherine told him.
"Ok."
Steve spent the day with his family and went out to dinner with the team at the night.
"Why didn't Catherine come?" Danny asked.
"Kevin played all day with Joan and her boyfriend at the beach today and he is very tired. Catherine preferred to stay home with him," Steve replied.
"Catherine set a time for you to come home?" Tani asked.
Steve smiled. "No, she's not like that. And where is my godson?"
"He stayed with my parents. My parents love staying with him," Junior said.
"He's doing your parents a lot of good, isn't he?"
"Yes, Steve. I think he's the best thing that ever happened to me, Tani and my parents."
"I understand that now. Kevin changed my life too. Can Kai spend the day at the house tomorrow? Kevin will love playing with him."
"We're going to work tomorrow," Tani replied.
"But we can leave Kai there before we go to headquarters," Junior said to Tani.
"Won't he bother Catherine, Steve?" Tani asked.
"Of course not, Tani. Catherine will love taking care of him. She likes kids, she loved taking care of Grace," Steve replied.
"That's true," Danny agreed.
"If Catherine agrees it's fine," Tani told Steve
The next day Steve and Catherine stayed with Kai all day and the boy played a lot with Kevin. Ten days later Catherine and Steve hosted family and friends for Steve's birthday party. Mary introduced Mike's father to Steve and Steve approved of their courtship. "Looks like Mary got her choice right this time," Steve said to Catherine.
"Yeah, he seems nice," Catherine replied. She saw Grace coming and gave her a big smile.
"Aunt Catherine!" Grace hugged her lovingly.
"I missed you, Grace. Welcome back," Catherine told her.
"Thank you, Aunt Catherine. I missed you too."
"What about my hug?" Steve said to Grace.
Grace hugged him as well. "Hi, Uncle Steve. Happy birthday!"
"Thanks honey," Steve kissed her forehead.
Danny approached him as well. "Happy birthday, Steve."
"Come here," Steve pulled him into a hug. "Thanks, Danny."
Kamekona arrived at the party and Kevin saw him hugging Steve. He walked over and asked Kamekona if he had brought shrimp. "No, Kamekona is our guest at the party," Steve told the boy.
Kamekona smiled. "I didn't bring shrimp, but tomorrow you can go over to the trailer and eat as much shrimp as you want," he told Kevin.
"Free?" Steve asked.
"Yes, but only for the boy," Kamenona replied.
"I don't know why, but I'm getting the feeling that you want to use my son to advertise your business," Steve said, and the people nearby laughed.
When it was time to sing Happy Birthday, Steve thanked his family and friends for coming, and thanked Catherine for organizing the party. "Thank you, Cath. You mean a lot to me."
"You deserve my love," Catherine told him and kissed him softly.
Kevin wanted to blow out the cake candle and Steve allowed it.
At the end of the thirty days Steve, Catherine and Kevin left and Danny was saddened by Steve's departure.
"It was like everything was back to normal while he was here," Danny told the team.
"Yeah, he even acted as a consultant to the task force on one case," Lou commented.
"Guys, the important thing is that he's happy," Junior told them.
One year later...
"Where are you going, Danny?" Lou asked when he saw him hurrying out.
Steve called me. He asked me to pick them up at the airport.
"I didn't know he was coming to the island," Junior said.
"Neither did I," Danny replied and left.
Danny arrived at the airport and waited about ten minutes until he saw Steve and his family.
"Hey Danny!" Steve waved at him.
Danny walked over to them and saw Kevin holding hands with a little girl who appeared to be about two years old.
"Hey!" Danny hugged Steve and then hugged Catherine. "Who is she?" Danny pointed at the little girl.
"That's our daughter Deborah," Steve replied
"We adopted her. Kevin now also has Steve's last name and this time we're here to stay," Catherine said to Danny.
PS: Sorry for being so long without an update. I'm facing some health issues.
