chapter twenty / what?

A cold air hits Bonnie's face as she ran as fast as she could with the wounds on her as Stefan was carrying an unconscious Caroline, which confused them all as she is not healing. Bonnie continued to run as fast as her feet could take her. The cold breeze hit her flush cheek as a burning sensation rushes through her body.

Running meant life; it was the ability to go whenever you wanted, to transcend the limits of boundaries and experience the wide road. In time, she wanted to run forward into life, not away from everything she has known to love and care for. But now, she has to find a refuge in herself, her nieces, and her best friend in this world.

They continued to run as Bonnie felt a cramp in her side. They stopped for a moment to allow her, catch her breath as Stefan turned around to see if anyone was near. Bonnie shook her head furrowing her brows, "What happened?"

"You were knocked out for two days, I did not know that, if I did I would have come earlier," mumbled Stefan as his gaze stayed on her. He felt a tremendous amount of guilt for not snapping out of reality, protecting those who actually need it. Bonnie and Caroline needed it as they were forced into this world.

He shifted to the blonde in his arms who had a steady pattern of breath but is not coming to complete wake state of mind, he shook his head. What did they do to the two of them?

Horror expression fell on Bonnie as tears prinkled in her eyes, they were passed out for two days. What the hell happened to her and Caroline?

Bonnie shook her head feeling so much anger in her, she had wounds all over and Caroline was not healingβ€” they did something to them, but what?

Bonnie wiped her tears, her nieces. She needed to find them and protect them. Bonnie glances at Stefan as they run to her house. She enters the house noticing the front yard had blood smear over, a panic settles in her. She runs throughout the living room, "Kai!"

She heard a gentle thump upstairs, she rushed upstrials, opening her room as she saw her nieces sleeping peacefully, she shifted her gaze to Kai, who was covered in blood. Kai gave her a small smile, "I made a mess but I did to protect the little ones."

Bonnie let out a sigh of relief as she wrapped her arms around him, letting out a small chuckle at the thought of the fact that she hated him in previous timeline. They did not get along.

Stefan enters the room as he sets Caroline down on the couch, as Kai pulls back seeing her in blood. He turns to Stefan, his eyes narrowing at him, as he hissed at him, "What did you do?"

Stefan raised his hands in surrender as Bonnie got in between them, "He saved us Kai."

Kai did not say anything as he continued to shoot glares at him. Bonnie sighs, not taking her eyes off of him, "What happened?"

Kai gave her a befuddled look as his breathing is very heavy, "What happened? You both are missing for two days and suddenly the house is being attacked by my father and twin sister."

Bonnie sighs as she sits on the couch as Stefan goes down stairs in the directions of her words to get a blood bag for Caroline. Bonnie caresses her cheek, as she puts the tip of the bag to her mouth as she starts to suck dry but not all her wounds are healing.

Bonnie does not understand as the worry is written all over her. She shifts her glanced back at Kai, "Alone?"

Kai sighs as he sits on the floor, "Well I had help from my lovely little sister and a the british vampire dude."

Bonnie shares a glance at Stefan as they both gaze at Kai who stood with a slight smirk to tell them the story in his own dramatic way.

TWO DAYS AGOβ€”

Kai had a hard stare intensely as the door shut; the Mikaelson siblings had left to deal with their mother. He could not help as an unsettling feeling fell upon him. He went upstairs heading to the nursery, "Hello my three troublemakers."

He had grabbed Astrid as she rested her little head onto his arms, "Only you are awake huh? Let's go prepare some bottles for you and your sister for later on."

Kai had Astrid as he went downstairs preparing bottles for the babies. He could not help but chuckle at the fact that him a retired sociopath is doing babysitting duties. Kai had a small smile as all he ever wanted was to be part of a family and he had that now.

He vowed to protect what he has. Deep inside he knows what he did was wrong and nothing can change that, all he could do is move forward and go on with his life.

He feels like he owes to both Caroline and Bonnie but a bit more for Bonnie as he noticed her hesitation and fear in her eyes when it came to him. He shuts eyes wondering what did his other self do to her?

But what surprises him is that she does hold it against him. She knows he is different compared to what she remembers but still many would not forgive and forget.

Maybe she hasn't forgiven him for his other self but still she does not treat him differently and he admires that. He is a guy filled with a bunch of anger and tends to let it out by taking it out on others but not her or Caroline.

The amount of pain those two suffered through yet they don't take out their anger at others only at themselves because they of all people knew how unfair it is to take your anger at someone who does not deserve it at all. And he vows to be like that as well.

Kai sighs, grabbing the other bottles in his arm as he goes upstairs with Astrid, "Are you ready for some fun time with uncle Kai?"

The little girl in his arms gaze at him with her iris wide open as if to answer his question. Kai chuckled at the little one as he entered the nursery, setting her down in her crib to prepare the bottles, before he forgets.

Kai heard a slight knock from the door coming downstairs, he furrowed his brows in confusion, it was too early for any of them to have come back. He carefully moves to the window, his hand gently swifting the curtain to get a better glance at the people outside.

Three people, two he recognized, his father and his twin sister. Two others that he did not know. Kai swifts back as he puts the three babies in one crib and closes his eyes as he chants the cloaking spell, "Invisique."

He moves multiple things near the door as he sighs, whispering to them three, "Uncle Kai will be back."

Kai shuts the door behind him, locking it as he went to the kitchen as quietly as possible, he grabbed a knife, hiding it behind his back. He let out a shaky breath as he opened the door as a wicked smile was placed on him, "Family."

Joshua stares at his son all well and aliveβ€” he needs to get rid of him. But he has a list of priorities, that he needs to handle. Josette had a shock expression as guilt but mostly fear crippled onto her. She knew this was a bad idea, she glanced at Luke and had a closed off expression.

Kai had shut down expression on him staring at everyone one of them as he had a cold calculating look in his eyes. His gaze fell on his father as anger rushed within him. But he needs to stay focused, "What do you want my dear old father?"

"You know what I want Kai," muttered Joshua as not an ounce of him feels regret for what he did. No one will ever understand him but he needs to do what needs to be done. Kai let out a stifle chuckle, "Let me guess kill me?"

Josette looks at him as pityness falls upon her, "Kai."

"Don't! You of all people deserve nothing and that is coming from a sociopath who went on a killing spree."

Josette put her head down in shame. Luke did not know him but he just knew what his parents told him is not the truth. Worry sets in as he knows he will have to confront his twin sister. He sighs knowing this is so wrong.

Joshua took a step forward as he had a cold expression on him. He kept his eyes on his son, "Give me what I want Kai, those three children are abominations just like you are."

Kai let out a chuckle that threw them off. He saw a witch coming near the back as Kai tilted his head, as he mumbled a spell under his breath that caused the man to fall in his knees as he screamed out of pain, blood pouring out of his nose, until his eyes were nothing but an emptiness.

He thanks Bonnie and Caroline mentally for giving him a bracelet with limitless amounts of magic and for teaching him that spell. He eyes his father, "You are not coming near those three children."

Kai quickly reacted as he grasped Josette hand shooting out to her as she cried out of pain. Kai shifted his gaze as his father tried to get inside but with his other arm he grabbed the knife behind him, as he stabbed his father on the side of the rib cage.

Josette quickly reacts as she punches Kai who did not react but he did notice Luke trying to sneak inside. Kai sees this as he pushes both of them off heading towards him, "Shit."

Before Kai or any of them could react a whoosh of wind was heard. As two people stood in front of Kai, as Kai opened his eyes seeing his little sister and Enzo. Luke gazes at his twin sister in confusion, "Liv? What are you doing?"

Liv hardens her jaw as she stares straight into him, "Doing what is right. Harming three innocent babies just because the coven says so? Grandma had stated that they are the future of the supernatural world, so what is the truth behind this?"

In reality Liv and Kai wanted to kill them but they needed them alive, because they needed to find out what was exactly is being planned. Before the three can react, Joshua, Josette, and Luke are being flashed out of there.

Enzo gazes at the two siblings, "What just happened?"

"Not sure," mumbled Kai, gazing where his father and twin once stood. He sighs, shaking his head, what the hell is exactly going on?

Yes, he knows the amount of power that the three children carry is completely powerful but to what extent is it that it has many worried for it being too strong?

Is there a thing that they have to prevent, and many want it to happen?

Liv gazes at Kai, "Those three babies are not the key to this."

Enzo took a step forward shaking his head in confusion, "What do you mean? If they are not the key then why go beyond and forward to get the three munchkins?"

Kai 's eyes widened in realization as he began to pace back and forward, "Shit."

Enzo looked confused but Liz tugged him forward, "We will check the premier and keep those children safe."

Kai nodded as he headed inside, locking the door, rushing upstairs wondering what the hell does this mean for all of them?"

Kai had finished telling Bonnie and Stefan everything as they each held a confused expression. Bonnie glanced at Kai, "The entire two days no one has approach the house besides them?"

Kai nodded at her question as Bonnie sighs. Stefan rubbed his temples, "What exactly is going on?"

Bonnie and Kai look at him as they realize Stefan does not even know a single detail of what is going on. Bonnie waves him off as she will fill him up later. Kai glances at the Bennett witch, "You two and your lovers have been missing for two days."

Bonnie bit her lip in worry as everything was too much and confusing. She glances at her blonde friend as she had cleaned her wounds up but nothing has made her wounds fully heal. Bonnie felt a chill enter as the door of the nursery was shut and lights began to flicker.

Bonnie stood up immediately as she saw her grams. Sheila went to her granddaughter as she ignored the two men, "Bonnie you need to find Klaus and Kol."

Stefan furrowed his brows as he put the pieces together, "Esther has them?"

Shelia took a moment to eye him as she nodded, shifting her gaze back to Bonnie, "Yes. Someone from the otherside is trying to kill Caroline, which will cause an imbalance in nature. Klaus and Caroline need to complete the bond completely."

Bonnie nodded as she furrowed her brows, "What about Kol?"

"You are so naive my dear," teased Shelia as she watched her granddaughter put the pieces together. Bonnie glanced at her, "He is myβ€”"

"Yes Bonnie. You deserve someone who will love you. Even though you and Caroline are on a mission, don't forget you are not alone. I have to go but I will be back."

Shelia disappeared as Bonnie shook her head as who the hell from the otherside is trying to kill Caroline?

She ignored the butterflies in stomach at the soulmate revelations because right now she has to rescue the originals from their psychotic mother. Making sure they all live after this.

Kai gazed at her as he eyed the witch, "Liv and Enzo can take care of the babies as we go on murder spree."

Bonnie gave him a nod as a slight smirk put on her as she turned to Stefan, "Can you be a ripper for a moment to help us?"

Stefan knew what she meant and nodded. He will help them in any way he can as he owes to them all. Kai had a slight smirk, "Clarice will be upset that she won't be joining our bonding moment."

Bonnie turns to him with a smile on her beautiful face, "Who says she won't?"
