Many thanks to those who read and reviewed this fic. I really appreciated it and this gave me inspiration to work on the next chapter and here, the current story arc is underway, as the quarterfinals of the tournament has ended and now we are moments away from the semifinals…where the buildup is working on…

Well then, read on and enjoy!

Ch. 41: Budō tōnamento part 13

Back at the stadium, the audience were starting to get impatient and demanded that the semifinal round begin, wanting to see some action and demanded that the participants get to the arena and begin the match, chanting louder by the minute as they are unwilling to wait any longer as they got bored with the intermission as they are only interested in the two matches.

"Start the match!"

"Start the match!"

"Start the match!"

"Start the match!"

"Start the match!"

"Start the match!"

"Start the match!"

"Start the match!"

The ring announcer urged the spectators to calm down, saying that the matches are underway and it would commence in a few minutes from now but the spectators are shown to get more impatient as they keep on chanting and wanted the match to start immediately, as they are excited to see the semifinalists get into action right away.

"Start the match!"

"Start the match!"

"Start the match!"

"Start the match!"

"Start the match!"

"Start the match!"

"Start the match!"

"Start the match!"

The Blizzard Group members were taken aback at seeing how excited they are in wanting the semifinals to begin at once, which Mountain Ape and Eyelashes wondered what made the spectators so pumped up, and Fubuki told her subordinates that the spectators are looking forward to see the three UA Academy students get into the match, as they were impressed at being able to qualify for the semifinal round without the aid of their Quirks.

Fubuki noted that having seen Uraraka and Kendo fending off their opponents en route to the semifinals, the audience was impressed and are interested to see which of them would advance to the finals of the tournament, as she noted that Suiryu is a favorite to make it there amongst the spectators.

Mountain Ape and Eyelashes nodded, as Suiryu somewhat attracted the female audience and he would do anything to sustain such momentum though it would be a matter of who would Suiryu face in the first match of the semifinals, noting that either Kendo or Bakugo would be an obstacle to Suiryu.

"So you believe that either Bakugo or Kendo would be Suiryu's opponent in the finals?"

"Yup. From the looked of it."

"No offense…but I doubt that Uraraka would win this round…it'd be a miracle if she managed to get a win this narrow…"

"Heh, true, but the outcome would be decided in a few minutes from now…"

"Huh?"

"Eh?"

"Let's watch the matches to the end, and there we would decide who would be worth recruiting…"

"Okay, boss…"

"Okay, boss…"

Not far, Lightning Max and Snakefist Snek also took note of the audience response, which many of them are girls who are cheering for Suiryu, and wondered if he could manage to advance to the finals should he face either Bakugo or Kendo, after watching the latter two managing to get the elimination round.

"That Suiryu…"

"He sure is lucky…"

"Yeah…it's a sure bet that he would advance through the finals…and face either Bakugo or Kendo..."

"So Uraraka is out?"

"Yup. From my observation, Uraraka won't stand a chance. Suiryu has more experience."

"You think so?"

"Yeah."

"…"

As the audience are clamoring for the semifinals to start, four individuals, all wearing hats and trench coats, are observing their surroundings, and can tell that some of the audience are rooting for the three UA Academy students who made it to the semifinals, which the scene zoomed closer and the four disguised individuals are shown to be pro heroes, identified as:

- Hawks

- Edge Shot

- Kamui Woods

- Mt. Lady

As Hawks is binging on a can of coffee, Mt. Lady is feasting on takoyaki which Edge Shot and Kamui Woods told her to mind her movements as they are here as undercover to see to it that the five UA Academy students, three of whom are still in contention for the tournament, would be safe as there is a possibility that a villain attack might take place.

"Munch, munch…"

"Mt. Lady..."

"Will you behave…?"

"What?"

"You'll be attracting attention…"

"We're here for an undercover job…"

"You worry too much. Just relax and enjoy the show…"

"…"

"…"

Hawks urged Kamui and Edge Shot to relax, as he discreetly pointed to a side where the Blizzard Group, Snek and Lightning Max are amongst the attendants, and said that things are getting interesting, saying that the Heroes Association is probably scouting the three UA Academy students who made it to the semifinals of this contest and if impressed they might be tempted to recruit them.

Mt. Lady, Kamui Woods and Edge Shot stared in disbelief at what Hawks said, as they believed that the Heroes Association doesn't have that authority to recruit minors, though Hawks said that he had a feeling that the Heroes Association may have found a loophole via the fact that the Heroes Association may have learned that some of the UA Academy students have provisional hero licenses.

Moreover, it is also possible for that scenario to happen since UA Academy students can also do part-time work, and it may be possible for the Heroes Association to use that as a basis in order to entice high school students with Quirks to apply hero work at the Heroes Association, much to the trios' disbelief.

"…well…that's what my hunch says…"

"You can't be serious…"

"You really believe that the Heroes Association would do that?"

"Are they competing with us?"

"Can't say…but maybe…"

"…"

"…"

"…"

Meanwhile, Ojiro and Kirishima were taken aback as some within the audience are rooting for Uraraka and Kendo, who are amongst the semifinalists, and there they felt that Uraraka is pressured as she is facing against Suiryu, whom the two boys noted that he is a very formidable opponent and felt that Uraraka must find a lucky opening if she were to defeat him by ring-out.

"Man…Uraraka is in a bit of a pinch…"

"I agree, Kirishima…Suiryu is no pushover. He eliminated us from the tournament. If I have to admit…either Kendo or Bakugo would have a slight better chance in narrowly eliminating him…"

"Don't count Uraraka out, Ojiro...I'm sure she can pull off an upset…"

"I really hope so. She has a lot of things riding in this tournament…"

"Winning the prize money for her parents…"

"Yeah…and to pay back at Suiryu for harassing her…"

"…"

"…"

Soon the ring announcer spoke and announced that the first match of the semifinal round is about to commence, where Bakugo and Kendo are the first to do battle, and there Ojiro and Kirishima are divided in opinion as they know that both Bakugo and Kendo are formidable fighters in their own right.

Kirishima then brought up the fact that Bakugo is also a good hand-to-hand combatant given how they both went for pound-for-pound at the Sports Festival several months ago, though this time the situation is different as there would be no involvement of Quirks.

"Then consider this a test for Bakugo. He is now threading into an opponent's territory, as no Quirks are involved, and Kendo excels in hand-to-hand combat. Now this would determine if Bakugo can survive this round given that fists and kicks are his primary weapons here."

"Bakugo might score an upset. Remember how me and him fought at the Sports Festival finals…"

"True, but this one is different."

"Yeah."

"Whoever wins would face the Suiryu-Uraraka winner…"

"Yeah."

"Lets watch."

"Right."

Within a minute both Bakugo and Kendo went towards the arena and the referee reminded the two teens that hand-to-hand combat and techniques are allowed, but cautions that lethal moves are prohibited and Quirks are a no-no here, which the two teens nodded in acknowledgement.

The referee also reminded that weapons of any kind are also prohibited, and even belts or wrist tapes are also prohibited to be used, and reminded the two teens that the only way to win is by knockout, 10-count fall, submission or ring-out, which Bakugo and Kendo nodded in acknowledgement.

"…and those are the rules. Would you two comply…?"

"Yeah."

"Yeah."

"Are you both ready?"

"Yeah."

"Yeah."

"Then let's have a clean match. Shall we proceed?"

"Yeah."

"Yeah."

After that, the referee got off the arena and called for the bell, signaling for the semifinal match to begin, and there Bakugo and Kendo assume their battle stances as they are getting ready to do battle, and both are relaxed as there is nothing on the line for them, except advance to the finals.

Bakugo then charges, heading towards Kendo, where his hands wide open, and this gives the audience the impression that he is going to use his Explosion Quirk and began to complain, believing that Bakugo is cheating, which created a minor tension within the venue.

"Hey!"

"That Bakugo is cheating!"

"He's using his Quirk!"

"I thought Quirks are prohibited!"

"It's a cheat!"

"A screw job!"

"Hey, referee!"

"Do something!"

But the referee watches the scene and noted that there is no indication that Bakugo would use his Quirk, and it is soon proven that Bakugo's actions were just a ruse, as he momentarily managed to fool Kendo into lowering her guard and managed to land a few punches on her upper body.

Kendo managed to regroup and delivered a roundhouse kick and struck Bakugo on his left cheek which sends him staggering backwards, but regained his footing, and both teens smirked as they are starting to enjoy this match as it made them feel at ease.

Mountain Ape and Eyelashes were quite taken aback at the fighting skills of Kendo, and checking the background of Kendo, they are quite surprised upon learning the nature of her Quirk, which Fubuki told her two subordinates to watch the match properly, saying that if Kendo manage to win, she would consider in recruiting her alongside Bakugo, which Mountain Ape and Eyelashes nodded.

"Boys…watch the match carefully."

"Yes, boss."

"Yes, boss."

"It appeared that this is a close one…either Kendo or Bakugo might win this in a narrow way…but there's a possibility that they might end up in a stalemate if neither gives in…"

"Yes, boss."

"Yes, boss."

"So take note on how those two teens engage in close-quarter combat…"

"Yes, boss."

"Yes, boss."

Mount Lady is feeling excited as she is impressed with how Kendo reacted after getting an initial beating from Bakugo and now she is poised to fight back, but Kamui Woods told her to stop acting like a kid as her antics would attract unwanted attention from the audience.

Hawks, however, said that there is a possibility that this match might end in a draw, which Kamui, Mount Lady and Edge Shot glanced at Hawks, discreetly asking what made him say that such a scenario might happen, which the winged hero said it is just a hunch, causing the trio to sag in dismay.

"Just a hunch. Nothing spectacular."

"…"

"…"

"…"

"What…?"

"Just shut up and watch."

"And don't say anything."

"You're ruining the excitement."
