A small coo arose from the bassinet nestled safely in the corner of the sunroom as Danny walked by. He stopped short and stepped back toward the entrance, leaning in and peeking over to where his nephew was laying. The six-month old's chubby legs were kicking wildly while trying to reach up to the mobile overhead. He had adorably fallen asleep during family dinner, leaning his head on his small hand while he sat in his high chair with a small amount of mashed potatoes decorating the side of his mouth. It reminded him of when Jamie was young and would do the same thing. It would usually be his mother, father, or Erin who would pick him up and take him to his room while everyone else finished dinner.
"Hey buddy," Danny said gently as he walked up to the bassinet and got a full view of Conor. "Did you have a good nap?"
The little boy turned his head and smiled widely at the familiar face. Conor David Reagan was truly one of the happiest babies that Danny's ever met. No one was ever a stranger to him and he was always happy to be held by any of his family members. It made him miss the days when his boys were little.
Conor and his older sister had him wrapped around their little fingers and he wasn't afraid to admit it. There was nothing that he wouldn't do to see those two smile.
Danny reached into the bassinet and lifted his nephew up in his arms. "Come on buddy," he said. "Let's hang out, just you and me. I better take advantage because if your aunt Erin saw you awake, she'd come in here and take you from me."
Conor chewed on his small, pudgy fist as he looked up at Danny. He walked him over to recliner that was turned to face the bay window and sat down, then turned the little boy around and laid him on his chest.
He rocked back and forth as he ran a hand on over Conor's head, "Your Grandma Mary used to do this with your Daddy all the time when he was your age. She would open the window wide and just let him look outside. Your Daddy was a curious little one. He always wanted to know what was going on, just like you."
Danny couldn't help but chuckle as he looked down at the baby's face and saw his wide hazel eyes following a woman who was walking her dog on the sidewalk.
He smiled affectionately, "You definitely are your father's son."
Seeing his baby brother as a father filled Danny with pride. He knows that Grace and Conor will never want for anything. They will have the best chance at life with Jamie and Eddie as their parents and with the rest of the Reagans around them.
"Let me tell you something Conor," Danny said. "I know I've told you this before but I'm going to tell you again. I will always be here for you no matter what. You can always count on me for anything. But, I don't think you or your sister will have to call on me very much because you two have pretty great parents who will always make sure that you're taken care of. If there is anyone in the world who I think you should be like, it would be your dad. He's truly the best man I know and there's some days… well, a lot of days where I wish that I was a little more like him."
"Hey," Danny suddenly heard.
Danny and Conor both turned to see Jamie standing at the entrance of the sunroom. Conor's arms flailed excitedly when he recognized his father and started to lean his body toward him.
"I guess our bonding time is over," Danny said with a laugh as he handed Conor over to Jamie.
Jamie pressed a kiss to the side of Conor's head, "Thanks for grabbing him. Eddie and I were curious as to why we hadn't heard him yet."
"He's only been up for like five minutes or so," Danny responded. "I was passing by here when I was on my way back outside and saw that he was up. We were just having a man to man talk."
"Oh yeah?" Jamie chuckled. "Man to man talk?"
"Yep. Man to man talk. Just stuff between an uncle and a nephew."
"Well alright. Are you coming back out? According to Grace, I don't push her high enough on the swing like her Uncle Danny does."
"I knew I loved that little girl. I'll be right there. I just need to go to the bathroom really quick."
Jamie nodded. Danny went down the hallway while Jamie carried Conor toward the back door. Suddenly, Jamie stopped.
"Hey Danny?" he called out, turning around and adjusting Conor in his arms.
Danny stopped and turned around, "Yeah?"
"If there's anyone in the world that I'd want my son to be like… I would want him to be like his Uncle Danny."
Danny gave a small smile and nodded, "Thanks kid."
