Mac slowly opened her eyes.

She was in a dim room, but it didn't feel like hers. The bed was different, and the shades were different, and it smelt like antiseptic.

She blinked. She was in the hospital. She'd been brought in earlier today, she thought. For something. For the baby? Had something been wrong with the baby?

She struggled to think. She felt her belly. It was smaller. Then she saw the little bassinet next to the bed. That's right. She'd come in for a c-section.

She and baby Rabb had made it to 37 weeks. They'd had a scheduled c-section before her due date to make sure the baby was delivered in the safest way possible for both of them. She became aware of the dull ache in her lower abdomen. It hurt, but not badly, so she was obviously still heavily medicated.

Had everything gone okay with the delivery?

She closed her eyes again. Tiredness was still fighting her as the anesthetic wore off.

She became aware of a soft sound. She concentrated, listening.

'But your mommy never gave up on you. She always protected you and took care of you. She loves you so much, my darling. I can't wait for you to meet her. She will be the best mom. She's always taken care of daddy, and she'll take such good care of you too.'

Harm. Her heart melted.

'I'm hoping I can convince her to name you after her. Her name is Sarah, but to me she's always been Mac. I asked her if I should call her Sarah too, but she says she likes the way I say Mac. It's special to her. So maybe you could have Sarah as your second name. What do you think, baby girl? After your mommy and your great-grandma?'

Mac forced her sleepy body to roll over. Harm was cradling his daughter and talking softly to her, and Mac fell in love with him all over again.

'Mac! You're awake.' He stood and moved closer to the bed. 'How do you feel, sweetheart?'

'Exhausted and a bit sore, but I'm okay. I want to meet my baby girl.'

Harm's smile went straight to her heart. 'Here, hold out your arms.' He gently laid the pink bundle on her chest. 'This is your mommy, baby girl.'

The baby was waking up, and she gazed at her mom with big blue eyes an exact replica of her father's. She made a little soft noise, and Mac kissed her head tenderly. 'Welcome to the world, my little miracle. I love you so much.'

Harm leaned on the bed next to her. 'Isn't she beautiful. Just like her mommy.'

Mac looked at him. 'But she has her daddy's eyes.' She carefully scooted over and patted the bed next to her. 'Come and lie here with me.'

'I don't want to hurt you. Are you sure?'

'I'm sure.'

Harm took off his shoes and carefully laid down next to her. Mac shifted so she could snuggle against his chest. 'I wish I could put into words how happy you've made me, Harm.'

He held her gently, and kissed her forehead. 'I don't know what I did right to deserve both of you, but you are my dream come true.' He kissed her lips gently. 'How would you feel about our little one having your name? As her second name?'

Mac bit her lip. 'I'm not sure I want her named after me, Harm. I haven't always been the best example.'

'Mac, you have been through a lot, but you have come through it as the strongest, kindest, most beautiful woman I've ever met. That's what I want my daughter to grow up to be. And I'd like her to have my Grandma Sarah's name, too.'

Mac looked into his eyes, shining with love and sincerity. She kissed him softly. 'Okay. Any ideas for a first name?'

'Well, something short, since Mackenzie-Rabb is a long last name.'

Mac cocked her head. 'I'd like her to just be Rabb.' She stroked his face. 'I know I'm still Mackenzie on my military records, but I've taken your name in the rest of my life. I'm just old fashioned enough to want us all to be Rabbs. If that's okay with you.'

From the look on his face, he was deeply touched. 'Of course it is, sweetheart.'

'What do you think about Alazne? It's a bit exotic, but it was my cousin's name, and it means miracle. We could shorten it to Allie.'

'Allie Sarah Rabb. Our miracle princess.' Harm kissed his daughter's head. 'What do you think, baby girl? Allie Rabb?'
The baby opened and closed her hands. It was too early for her to be able to smile, but Harm would swear forever after that he saw a trace of one.

'I think she likes it.'

Mac smiled. 'I think she's just animated because she's hungry.'

Harm helped her undo her gown, and baby Allie latched on and began feeding. Harm rested his head on his wife's. 'Thank you, Mac. For never giving up on either of us.'

Mac lifted her head for another kiss. 'That's what love does. It keeps going, always.'

'I love you, Sarah Rabb.'

'I love you more.'

THE END.
