The Dark Side of the Moon

Chapter Two

Sitting down at a desk with a pen and paper looking at the monitor, a smile spread across Catherine Miller's lap.

Leaning back in her chair, she continues to watch the dark mist move closer to Camp Half-Blood. Her eyes narrowed seeing a woman slashing away at the creatures jumping out of the mists. Scribbling down more and more notes in her notebook.

"So far, not bad, but not enough." Catherine said as she kept scribbling down notes.

Sighing, Catherine looked away from the monitor into the next room where she looked up a crystal chamber hooked up to various machines pushing dark mist into the chamber where Selene laid with her eyes closed. The humming and swelling noises of the surrounding machines, Catherine continued staring at the goddess in pure delight.

"You are such an amazing creature," Catherine said aloud.

Catherine continued to stare at Selene, yet as she rose to her feet. Dusting off her white jacket, she dusted herself off as she was setting her notebook down by her computer monitor. She took a deep breath. It has been days since she built up to this moment of being able to form these demonic fiends. She wondered if this would be enough to please her silent partner.

Soon, a knock on the door interrupted Catherine's thoughts. Looking to the door, she noticed Bailey, her assistant, standing in her door frame. She noticed her twiddling with her thumbs while blinking rapidly. Hm, this wasn't good Catherine though before speaking.

"Yes, Bailey?"

"Um, it's Mr. X, he's here." Bailey said, looking into the chamber.

Catherine looked in that direction as well. Her eyes widen at the sight of the short black-haired man in a pine striped suit walking around Selene's chamber while staring at the other machines connected to the chamber.

"Thank you. I will take it from here." Catherine said.

Nodding, Bailey left. Pulling her hair back into a bun while slipping on her glasses, Catherine cleared her throat as she tugged on her long white lab coat.

"Okay, let's do this," Catherine said, pepping herself up.

Walking out into the lab, Catherine pushed a smile across her lips as she stood a few feet away from her silent partner.

"Hello Mr. X, I didn't except to see you today." Catherine said.

"I like to show up unexpectedly. It keeps the people I partner with on their toes." Mr. C said, standing by a lever.

"How much mist are you using?" Mr. X asked.

"25%"

"Results?"

"It has made such wonderful demonic fiends, and they have shown great strength."

"But?"

"They have been defeated."

Sighing, Mr. X looked at the lever. When you said you captured a goddess, I, like many others, doubted you, but when showed me, I supplied you with the dark mist. I expected you to be much further along by now."

Catherine bowed. "I thank you for your contributions, but science can't be rushed."

Sighing, Mr. X let go of the lever and stepped away. Walking to the door, he stopped and but didn't turn around. "75%, If you are not there on my next visit, you will have more to worry about than fiends."

"Yes sir,"

Nodding, Mr. X left, slamming the door behind him. Taking a deep breath, Catherine wiped the sweat off her brow. She was glad that was over. Walking over to the chamber, she glanced back at the leveler for the mist release. On the screen it read 25%. So far demon fiends have done, she thought well, while they growl and drool and have a one-track mind and smell, she thought. Even that was a wonderful accomplishment. The thought of going higher scared and excited her. Would boost up to 50% produce more demon fiends or an uncontrollable gigantic monster, maybe worse. Oh, how she wanted to find out put first protection.

Running away to her cabinets, Catherine pulled out a huge white helmet with a matching shield. Okay, she was ready. Walking over to the lever, Catherine pulled it till it read 50% percent. Then she ran away, jumping behind a desk close to the wall. She imaged a massive explosion followed a massive monster before her. Yet when she peaked out from behind the desk, there was none of that. Her eyes looked at the machine as it is pumping more dark mist into the chamber. Moving closer, Catherine noticed Selene's heart race increase along with rapid eye moment as her white aura intertwined with the mist.

Backing away as a popping sound followed with sparks rolling off the machines as the sliver dark mist flooded out of the machine, hovering in one spot as a massive shadow could be seen within it. Catherine continued backing up as the shadow moved closer. The moment the mist dispersed, there stood a monster like she thought. It had dark purple fur with streaks of white across its face. It looked down at her, showing its teeth.

"Can you talk?" Catherine asked.

The creature merely growled, much to Catherine's dismay. But she had admitted he was well built, with a decent, but firm, muscular build. He looked more humanoid than the other demon fiends. He growled louder as Catherine back up. She bumped into the desk as a white light engulfed the creature. Looking away, the light faded. When she looked back, the creature was gone. Dropping her shield and throwing off her helmet, she races back to her computer monitor. It was just as she expected he teleported to Camp Half-Blood. Sitting back down, Catherine scooted closer to the screen, picking up her notebook and pen. Leaning back in her chair, a smirk spread across her lips as the creature continued walking toward the main part of the camp.

"Now let's see how this goes."
