The Dark Side of the Moon

Chapter Three

Screams reach Chiron's ears as picked up his sword and leather armor strapping it to his chest. Racing out of his office and down the hall, he burst through the front door only to be welcomed by a thick dark mist roaming through the camp. Followed by demonic like creatures jumping out of the mist. Tearing through tents, chasing the younger students, knocking barrels along with destroying tons of supplies, it was when Chiron spotted a few cornering one student that he jumped into action.

Growling, the creatures raised their hands, extending their claws. Swallowing hard, the young student griped his sword, breathing hard as tears blurred his vision. He swung his sword, only for it to be knocked out of his hand. Crouching down and covering his head with his hands, he thought all was lost. Chiron jumped over his head, raising his front legs while brandishing his sword. Backing up, the creatures growled as they attempted to get closer.

"Get out of here!" Chiron shouted.

The young man jumped up and took off running as Chiron clashed away at the creations. The moment their eyes glowed as swords formed in their hands, he knew what he was dealing with.

"Demon fiends, but how?" he said to himself as he charged toward the creatures.

Making it to the Main Camp, Percy, Annabeth and Grover took off running to help any way they can while Dionysus ran toward Chiron. Pulling out his sword, he ran toward his fiends only from mist to circle around him, but within moments, the fiends went flying into the air while other were tackled to the ground. Looking behind him, Dionysus nodded to the satyrs and centaurs before running off to Chiron.

Narrowing his eyes as Chiron grip the hilt of his sword, more fiends jumped out of the mist with swords in their hands. Not wasting anytime, he charged toward them, slashing at their weapons before twirling around and stabbing them in the chest. Dionysus jumped in, taking out a few more of them before the rest jumped back into the mist.

"Demon fiends." Chiron said.

"Yeah, didn't think I would see them again," Dionysus said.

"But they seem a lot stronger than before," Chiron said.

Looking over to Chiron and Dionysus, Percy finished two more fiends before joining them, with Annabeth and Grover right behind him.

"What's the plan?" Percy asked.

"Hm, we need to get rid of this mist," Dionysus said.

Chiron remained silent as he looked at the mist. Moving closer, he noticed how thick it looked. In fact, all the mist around the camp was moving to this location. "We might not have to worry about that."

The others turn around to Chiron just as the mist formed into an enormous mass. Backing up to the others two figures could be seen within the mist. The gigantic figure held up the other one and threw it. Rolling out of the mist was a bruised and beaten Celeste. Chiron and Dionysus helped her up. But her eyes remained fixed on the mist. Pulling out their weapons, they stood ready. For once, the mist dispersed. There stood a large demonic creature with dark purple fur and streaks white across its face. It looked around for a moment before setting its eyes on Chiron. The white streaks lit up as the symbol of a crescent moon formed on its forehead. Chiron grit his teeth, for he couldn't believe what he was seeing.

"That can't be…." Chiron said.

"You better believe it…." Celeste said.

Looking at Chiron, Dionysus, and Celeste, Percy noticed neither of them moving. In fact, they were backing up even more. Looking back at the creature, his eyes narrowed. He went to take a step forward, but both Annabeth and Grover held him back.

"What? We need to stop this thing." Percy said.

"Let's not be hasty" Annabeth said cautiously.

"Yeah, I am getting some serious bad vibes from this creature," Grover replied.

"You three behind me now," Chiron demanded.

Not saying a word, the three teens ran behind Chiron.

Sighing, Chiron shook his head. A demon with Selene's power. She was right. Perhaps they were living on borrowed time. But he wasn't to going to fall here.

"So looks like this is the beginning of it," Chiron said.

"Just because this demon has her power doesn't mean this is the end of the world." Celeste said.

"Can we worry about that later? We have a demon to take care of." Dionysus said.

Nodding, Chiron looked back to Percy Annabeth and Grover. "Stay here. We'll take care of this."

Nodding, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover watched as Celeste, Dionysus, and Chiron charged toward the gigantic creature.

Growling, the creature charged at Chiron. The moment both half's touch, a struggle for control began. Chiron grit his teeth as he kept pushing forward, only to be slowly pushed back. Celeste and Dionysus slashed and stab at the creature, but nothing seemed to faze him. Celeste's eyes glowed as did her blade as she raised her sword, cutting deep into the creature's arm.

A loud roar came from the demon as it dropped its hold on Chiron. Smacking Celeste, it knocks her back into a few barrels. Yet her eyes continued glowing, as did her blade. Standing up, the creature's eyes narrowed as it ran in her direction.

"Okay big boy, let's dance," Celeste said as she ran toward the demon

As the two grew closer, the demon went to grab her with his hands, only her to slip through his legs, slicing at them as she did so. Stumbling as it turned around, Chiron and Dionysus jumped over Celeste with their blades ready charging toward the creature. They slashed away at the demon, moving faster and faster until the figures were only a blur. With her blade glistening brightly, Celeste ran toward the demon and took off in the air.

Chiron and Dionysus jumped out of the way as Celeste came down with her blade, slicing through the demon from head to toe like butter. Not giving the creature time to recover, Dionysus and Chiron sliced through the demon on opposite sides. The moment they all sheathed their blades, the demon dropped to the ground in pieces. Within moments, the pieces dissolved into a small pile of mist before a gust of a window blew it away.

Sighs escaped all three of them as Dionysus and Celeste laid out on the ground while Chiron leaned against a few of the upright barrels.

"Wow… that was rough. My body hurts." Celeste finally said.

"You said it. I can barely move," Dionysus said, followed by a groan.

"I haven't had to do that much moving in a long time," Chiron said.

"You know, everyone in camp is going to want to know what this is about, especially them," Celeste said, looking at Percy, Annabeth, and Grover.

Dionysus finally pulled himself off the ground, walking over to Celeste extending out his hand. "I'm tired. All I want to do is rest."

"Same, "Celeste said, taking a hold of Dionysus' hand helping her to her feet.

The two of them walked painfully over to Chiron as they helped him stand up straight. "Same here, but is nice to see you again, Celeste. It almost feels like old times."

"Like wise my friend," Celeste paused. "Come, we'll talk later."

Nodding, Chiron and Celeste headed back toward Big House while Dionysus approached Percy Annabeth and Grover.

"I know you want to know what's going on and you will soon enough, but for right now to help the others in cleaning up," Dionysus said.

Percy merely nodded as Annabeth handed him and Grover brooms. The three were still trying to digest what they saw. The fight with the witness was amazing. Now they knew why Chiron and Dionysus were in charge of the camp. For now, they would do as they were told, for more and more questions swirled around in their heads more than ever and they could only hope they would get the answers to them.

Meanwhile, back in her lab, Catherine scribbled down a few more notes before tossing her notebook on the table. Shaking her head, she sighed as she stared at the now blank screen. While the demon did better than the other in the end, it stilled failed. Standing up, Catherine walked back into her lab. Standing in front of the chamber, she gazed at Selene.

From her note, she noticed any demons formed always headed to Camp Half-Blood. At first, she thought it was just a pleasant coincidence, a perfect way to test the creations, but from the recent fight, she noticed it wasn't it.

"Even now, as you lay here sleeping with darkness all around you, all you can think of is him." Catherine said, scratching her chin. "I wonder if your love can truly save you. Is it truly is the most powerful thing on Earth?"

Walking away Catherine turned off the lights and headed to her room. While today was eventful, the words she spoke continued to echoed in her mind. Is love as strong as they say? There was only one way to find out.
