Cair Paravel

It was a warm summer's morning, the kind of where you would want to just relax and enjoy the fresh Narnian air while feeling the lively leaf green grass beneath your bare toes. But relaxing and taking a break was far from the minds of the ocuupants of Cair Paravel, for it was also the day their youngest queen would be undertaking a voyage to the Seven Isles on her own for the very first time, much to the kings' annoyance and protests.

All the beasts, from the smallest rabbit to the largest centaur, remembered the legendary argument that Lucy had gotten into with her brothers, nearly a month ago, about allowing her to undertake this journey alone. Well, they didnt call her the Valiant queen for nothing for she had done what not many would do; standing up against the High King's authoritative regal expression and the younger king's stern deep voice.

Both older brothers had been against the idea from the moment they had read the letter containing the royal invitation for Lucy to attend the naming ceremony of the newborn son of the king of the Seven Isles. Lucy had begged, pleaded and even resorted to not talking to them for the rest of the day, but they had stood their ground. Susan had tried to mediate between them but to no avail. The youngest queen had absolutely refused to talk to her brothers unless they agreed to let her go alone. Both parties were right from their point of view. Lucy wanted to become more independent and taste a little freedom for she had never been anywhere on her own. While her brothers didnt want her to take the four days voyage alone, outside their sphere of protection. They knew that she wanted to experience a little freedom now that she was thirteen, but they coudnt find it in themselves to let her go out of their sight.

But they gave up at last, when the youngest queen didnt allow them inside her chamber to kiss her goodnight, and came to a compromise. They would allow her to go but only if Philip, Mr Tumnus, Peter's twin leopard guards Shira and Bastian and Edmund's twin cheetah guards Erastus and Leonidas went with her in addition to her personal guards.

Having no choice left, Lucy had accepted their proposal with great reluctance and finally allowed Peter to snuggle her in his arms and coax her to sleep while Edmund lay down beside her and softly hummed a lullaby to sooth her nerves. Susan had just smiled and taken a seat next to her brothers, watching them with adoration.

Now finally the day of the voyage had arrived and Lucy was extremely excited; so excited that Peter and Edmund had to convince her to sleep last night so that she would be well rested in the morning.

"Good morning!" Lucy chirped as she ran in through the doors of the royal dining chamber. Her brothers turned around and smiled upon seeing her bright happy face.

"Come here, you." Peter said, holding out his arms and placing her on his lap as soon as she was in them. "You know you dont have to go if you dont want to, just say the word and I will send a message with our fastest messenger." He said seriously, cupping her cheek. Lucy giggled and leaned in to rub her nose against him in an eskimo kiss. "I will be fine, Peter. Dont worry, there are so many people who are going to be there to take care of me. And besides, its just a matter of twelve days! I will be back before you know it." She reassured and Peter sighed. " I know but I will always worry about you. You are my baby girl and I dont like it when you are out of my sight." He said but smiled in resignation and pulled her closer, kissing the top of her head.

"I wish Oreius had not gone to visit his brother so he could have also gone with her." Edmund muttered causing Peter to grumble in agreement as well while Lucy simply giggled at them.

"And no matter what happens, Shira, Bastian, Erastus and Leonidas must always be along with you wherever you go, even when you are in bed they must be inside your bedchamber." Peter instructed, as they stood on the dock that lead to the Usra Dawn, a sleeker and smaller ship than the Splendour Hyaline.

"Yes Peter." Lucy said dutifully and Peter smiled fondly at her. "Now come here and give me a hug, sweetheart." He said. His sister jumped into his arms and he swept her off her feet in a rib crushing embrace.

"Take care, my love. I will miss you so much." He whispered in her hair. "I will miss you too." He heard her whisper in his neck and gently set her down. She ran to Edmund, who was waiting for his turn, for a hug and was picked up in his strong arms in one smooth move.

"Don't forget to have fun, yeah? I will miss you, Lu. Come back soon and don't forget to read the letter when you open your trunk. Su sent it for you." He said, looking down a little to see her face. He leaned forward and pressed his lips to her forehead, letting them linger for a few seconds before pulling back. "Will miss you too." Lucy said in a small voice. He set her down and smiled gently at her as she kissed his cheek. "I love you." He said and she squeezed his waist for a second before echoing the sentiment back.

Peter pulled her in for another tight hug, dropping a few kisses on her head before telling her that he loved her.

" Now go on, its almost time to leave." Edmund said and Lucy grinned before taking a step back.

" Goodbye Peter, Ed. Tell Su that I will miss her when she comes back from Archenland. And.." She trailed off.

"And?" Peter asked.

"And don't burn down the Cair while Su and I are not there!" She said cheekily before turning on her heel and running up the gang plank leading to the ship's deck. As soon as she was abroad, the crew pulled up the anchor and unfurled the majestic sail. Slowly, the ship began to move out of the harbour with great cheers from the Narnians present at the harbour. Lucy leaned slightly over the edge of the ship and began to wave energetically, a huge radiant smile on her face.

"Hey Pete? " Edmund began as they waved back to their sister.

"Yeah?"

"Is it still possible to sneak aboard the ship?"
