The Search of the Lost Mousai

Chapter Two

Relief washed over Melpomene the moment she heard the man's voice. She sighed. It was Percy. she would be safe now; she told herself.

"I'll be right back." Percy said.

Mel nodded to herself as huddled back in the closet's corner.

Out in the living room, Percy dodged left and right as ragged formed daggers detached from the man's clothes and flew in his direction. More and more rags morphed into daggers as the man ripped them off and threw them.

Looking around, Percy grabs a metal platter off the floor. Holding it up to his face, his eyes flickered as a cerulean blue light went down his arms and lined the platter.

As the daggers touched it, they bounced off. Moving closer, Percy's aura grew around the metal platter, turning it to a shade of blue.

Once he was close enough, the platter went transparent. As he let it go, it circled around the man. As the raggedy man swatted and punched at the platter, Percy punches the guy square in the face. It sends him flying backward, smacking up against the wall. Within moments, the platter broke apart, forming into several metal clamps that wrapped the man's hands, legs, and neck, pinning him to the wall. The more the man struggled against it, the tighter they became.

Backing up slowly, Percy's eyes returned to normal. Not break eye contact with the man on the wall, he steadily back up till he could feel the doorknob on his back.

Percy knocked on the door. "You can come out now."

As the doorknob turned, Percy moved aside. Within moments, a tattered black hair woman emerged. Her eyes were glued to the wall where the raggedy man was. His eyes glared at her, glowing bright red.

Glancing over to her left, she found a young man with short brown hair glance over at her before looking back at the man pinned to the wall.

"Percy?" Mel asked.

Percy simply nodded as he moved closer to her. "Melpomene?"

"Yeah, but everyone calls me Mel," Melpomene said.

"Do you have any idea who is this?" Percy asked, pointing to the raggedy man.

"No, I've never seen him before," Mel said.

Taking out his cell phone, Percy snapped a few pictures before picking up a few daggers off the floor using a tissue. He stared at the rag-like daggers before putting them in a plastic Ziploc bag.

Mel continued, looking at the raggedy man. He stared back at her with a smirk on his lips. He hissed at her, which caused her to jump a little. With a mixture of anger, fear and worry flashed through her mind, she took a deep breath and opened her mouth.

"Where are my sisters?" Mel asked.

The raggedy man remained quiet, but still held a smirk across his lips. Mel bit her lip until she had a feeling he knew where they were or who took them, but he wouldn't utter once single word.

Percy's eyes narrowed. The cerulean tint in his eyes flared, which caused clamps around on his hands, ankles, and neck to tighten.

"Answer her," Percy said.

The raggedy man grits his teeth but his smirk remained. Percy thought about ending his life, but he wasn't certain if that would bring more of his kind here, or vice versa. Pulling out the gold coin on the envelope that was in with the letter, he stared at it. It held the symbol of the sun on side and letters GS on the other. He noticed a few words along the edge that said, please break here. He motioned for Mel to come closer to him as he slipped his backpack over his shoulders.

"What's that?"

"Our way out of here. Hang on."

Breaking the coin caused a gold light to swirl around them, engulfing them. When the light disappeared, they were gone.

A golden color ceiling welcomed Percy as he opened his eyes. The sent of books along with cinnamon tickled his nose. Taking a deep breath, Percy sat up. Looking around, he noticed Mel on a cot beside him, asleep.

Swing his feet over the side of the cot, a woman in a simple, light gold outfit bowed slightly. A familiar brown-haired woman entered the room sat down in a chair in front of him.

"Long time, no see Percy." The woman said, followed with a smile.

Percy smiled seeing the smiling face of Helen Williams. Two years ago, he, Helen, Jessica, Artemis and Janet saved Apollo and the world from the threat of Cassandra and The Dark Sun. That's when he was first introduced to the Golden Sun Library, a safe space for demigods and beings of their kind.

"Like wise I didn't expect to see a medical section in the library."

"Yeah, just one of the many rooms we have in this place."

"How's Janet?" Percy asked.

"She's still asleep…. Helen trailed off, looking away. "But her vitals are much better." Helen finished with a hint of hope in her voice.

Percy nodded he saw a hint of hope in her eyes. His eyes widen when he remembered something before laying back down. He pointed to his backpack he saw on the counter.

Helen raised an eyebrow as she walked over and unzipped the bag. Pulling out the Ziploc bags, her eyes narrowed at the rag like daggers that seem to hold a sand color like glow.

"I'll take these to get analyzed,"

"You have a lab here too? Percy asked.

Helen merely smiled. "I will give you a grand tour one day but for rest."

Percy sighed as Helen chuckled and left the room. A yawn escaped his lips as Percy looked up at the celling. It was nice seeing Helen again. At least he didn't have to go at this alone. Helen looked so mature Janet had indeed picked the right person to run things while she recovers. Closing his eyes and he finally drift off to sleep.

Opening her eyes, a white light welcomed Percy. It steadily turned into a delightful scent of lush green grass and cool blue lake close by. Walking along the grass, he came across Mnemosyne sitting under a large oak tree with Melpomene resting in her lap.

"Thank you for saving her." Mnemosyne said, stroking Mel's hair.

"You're welcome," Percy said, sitting under the tree.

"You should rest,"

"Not until I find all of your daughters."

"And I know you will. The being you encountered, I have never seemed to him before.

"What did you sense from the man?" Percy asked, sitting under the tree.

"Hm, he is human, but with something much darker mixed in."

Sighing, Percy let out a yawn, Mnemosyne smiled.

"Rest. I shall watch you both."

Laying down, Percy closed his eyes. Mnemosyne laid her hand over him as she looked out over the lake, as Percy finally drifted off to sleep.

Meanwhile, back in at in the library, Helen walked opened the door to a room filled with microscopes and computers along with bubbling beakers over Bunsen burners. Helen walked towards a young woman wearing a lab coat looking into a microscope.

After a few moments, Helen stood beside her and cleared her throat.

"You said you had something for me, Louise." Helen said.

Carefully putting the microscopic slide back in a case, she looked up at Helen.

"Yeah, I ran the rag dagger samples through various tests and found something rather interesting," Louise said as she slipped off her gloves and toss them in the Hazard bin. Standing up, Louise walked over to the main computer at the center of the room and sat down. Flicking a few strains of her black hair behind her ear, she typed away on the computer for a few moments before bringing up the findings. Helen's eyes widen images of the rag dagger that appear on screen along with the images of a skeletal bone creature with a large cloak.

"Wrath's…. impossible," Helen said a loud.

"That's what I thought, so I doubled check to make sure and the findings are correct. The man Percy fought is part human and part wrath.

"They've been gone for hundreds of years."

"From what it looks, that's not the case."

"Wraiths and missing muses," Helen said, shaking her head. "This just got more complicated.
