Chapter 2 – Meeting Bulma
Sometime early afternoon, September 1, Age 749 -
Something was happening today and Anya had been edgy all week about it. Goku of course sensed her anticipation and had been doing his absolute best to make her laugh and giggle instead of worrying about whatever was coming.
He'd rolled down a mountain on a log with her in his arms giggling helpless at the turn of events that started it in the first place. He was doing his best not to look at her cause the moment he did he'd bust into laughter and he was trying to keep them from crashing or getting hurt. He could still feel her giggling against him though so he couldn't help but snicker a bit himself.
When they reached their destination in record time, he jumped off and set her down so he could finish making firewood for lunch and dinner.
Once that was finished, they both ran off to hunt or gather food.
They'd been attacked by a sabretoothed tiger in the middle of snack time and Goku had swung them backwards just in time to keep from being mauled and Anya had once again broken out in giggles and snickered as he swung her in front of the tiger like a tasty treat before snatching her up, throwing her over his shoulder and running off with the tiger following and Anya making silly, mocking faces at the tiger.
They'd both giggled as the tiger ran right off the cliff and splashed into the rushing river below while they hung off a branch over the cliff side.
Of course not long after the branch broke over their combined weight and they both yelped as they fell into the river and were dragged down stream into the large pond near their place. It was awesome and refreshing and thrilling and she loved it.
They'd had to mostly strip down though and lay in the sun in order to dry their clothes from their impromptu bout of swimming.
They spent the time waiting for their clothes to dry cloud watching and sunbathing.
When Goku felt he was dry enough, he used his tail to fish and caught a huge fish that was twice the size of both of them.
On the walk back, Anya spent the time trying to figure out if she had everything she needed for lunch and dinner today.
Goku ate quite a lot on a regular day with just training and adventuring but on days he had to fight he ate the most, so Anya had long since made a dedicated garden that she used her magic on to encourage fast growth and produce more than it otherwise would. Grandpa Gohan didn't like when she used her magic for things like that but there wasn't much he could say against it when the other options were to over hunt or starve Goku and neither of them were willing to do that.
Goku had missed a few meals in the past when she was younger and Grandpa Gohan was trying to figure out Goku's absolute minimum necessary food consumption. It hadn't turned out well and while Anya had understood the necessity of knowing that information, it had grated something hard against her and from then on she'd taken over all meals and their preparations, with the occasional help from Goku during hunting or preparation. Goku was somewhat decent with a cutting knife, especially tricks when he was trying to make her laugh.
She'd sewn a space extension and stasis rune cluster into both of their backpacks ages ago after Goku and her had gotten trapped in a cavern during a thunderstorm without much food. She'd carved that same rune cluster into the cement floor of their storage shed and they worked hard every day to make sure it was well stocked with food, furs, wet clay, ashes, firewood, and tools for any necessities.
She'd sewn linked runes into another pocket of their backpacks and carved a matching one in to the floor of the storage shed just in case.
She'd been overly worried about the stock in the storage ever since she'd begun to feel the anticipation of something coming and Goku had just gone along with it like she wasn't crazy. She loved that about him.
And then on their way home with food, a small car comes speeding around the corner and Goku just barely manages to shove her out of the way before it's plowing into Goku and their fish.
"Goku!" She knew she shouldn't be worried but she couldn't quite help it.
"Is it still alive?" Came the shaky voice of the girl who'd been driving far too fast and recklessly.
The girl had bright blue hair and eyes and was twice the height of Goku and Anya.
Anya was quite mad at this girls recklessness and before she'd even thought it through, she'd kicked the car as hard as she could with a bit of juice for good measure.
The car turned over on its side, a huge dent in the side and two wheels popped off. The bluenette inside it yelped from the pain of being jostled around so harshly but she was quick to pull her gun and climb her way out of the car window.
"What was that for?!" She screeched indignantly, pointing her gun at Anya.
Goku was quick to call, "Power pole extend!"
The pole knocked the gun out of her hands and Goku jumped over to guard Anya, ready for battle. He didn't necessarily know what the new girl had pointed at Anya, but it had to be a weapon of some sort and he would never tolerate any threat to his Anya, whether Anya was in the wrong or not, though he doubted Anya would ever be in the wrong and certainly not in this specific instant.
"Whoa! WHOA! I was only defending myself?!" The girl yelled, indignantly, throwing her hands up in the air to show she was without weapons.
Anya still enraged herself and pent up from the past weeks anticipation, yelled out, "So were we!"
"Look you didn't have to destroy my car! I didn't mean to hit your friend! It was just an accident!" The blue hair girl shouted back, looking a little panicked at a frowning Goku, who didn't really appreciate someone yelling at Anya, like she was about to ask him to stop or calm down Anya, before seeming to realize that it wasn't a good idea.
The bluenette's glance for assistance at Goku enraged Anya further, how dare she think to acquire his help against her even for a moment, "You shouldn't be driving if you're just going to be reckless and speed like that! You're lucky you didn't kill someone. If that car had hit me and not Goku, I could've been killed!"
Goku growled at the thought, clenching his fists and trying to steady his breathing and anger with a few meditative deep breaths, his tail reached back stroking her pulse point in the wrist she offers him discretely, but Anya continued her verbal berating of the reckless girl, "And you still haven't even apologized for almost killing someone with your recklessness! Saying it was an accident doesn't make it okay, especially if you don't even apologize. And then you escalate the situation by pulling a gun on us when we retaliate instead of trying to calm the situation down!?"
"Alright! Alright! I'm sorry! I really didn't mean to hit your friend and I'm sorry for pulling a gun on you!" The girl yelled, bright red in embarrassment at being scolded by a girl half her size. Not even her mother did that. Also the little boy seemed to be growing angrier and she didn't like her chances of defending herself against him when he had disarmed her so easily if this confrontation didn't calm down soon.
Anya glared for a bit longer before huffing and turning her attention to Goku, who sensed her calming down and had relaxed his stance and half-turned to look her over for injuries while she did the same.
"You're not hurt are you, Goku?"
He shook his head with a big grin, "Nope, I'm all good, Anya!"
She sighed as she let her anger go before turning her attention back to the girl who was now inspecting her car in irritation. It probably could be fixed but not out here in the mountains.
Anya blushed, suddenly sheepish about her reaction to Goku getting run over. Why did she react like that? She knew it took more to actually hurt him.
Goku grabbed her hand with a bright grin and squeezed it in silent comfort, she smiled at him before taking a deep breath and offering, "I apologize for destroying your car. Would you like to join us for lunch, --?"
The blue haired girl turned back to them, cheerfully enough, "I'm Bulma. I'd love to join you for lunch and don't worry about the car. I have another I can use until I get this one fixed."
Goku chimed in cheerfully, "I'm Son Goku and this is Son Anya."
Anya looked down, blushing and amused, biting her lip to keep from saying anything. They didn't meet a lot of people out in the mountains, so he'd never really had to introduce her to anyone and the very first time he introduces her it's with his last name, a subtle way of claiming her that she didn't even think he realized he had done so.
He was technically 15 so she didn't necessarily mind him staking a claim on her whether he realized he had or not.
Grandpa Gohan might mind if it's brought up, since her body was only 12, but she doubted it would be brought up again.
Bulma followed them home, Goku dragging the fish over his shoulder with one hand and holding Anya's hand with his other, his tail around her waist protectively. Goku was still unsure of Bulma's intentions and until he was more comfortable with her, he preferred to keep Anya close and within easy reach. As always she catered to his instincts and he allowed himself a moment to just appreciate how understanding and open minded Anya was. Admittedly Grandpa tried his best to be as understanding and open as possible, but Goku had noticed that his open-mindedness didn't exactly extend to some of the things Anya could do and while that worried Goku sometimes, it only really worried him because he didn't want Anya's feelings hurt just because some of her abilities made Grandpa uncomfortable. So long as Anya wasn't hurt then it wasn't something that needed to be dealt with and he could ignore the situation for the time being.
Bulma thought the two of them were absolutely adorable together, with Goku ready to defend his little sister against anyone and anything and little Anya's worry about her big brothers safety while protecting her. So cute!
