Chapter 24: Round Two and Misha Kreuchev
The force of the gust was prevalent as Touma closed his only remaining left eye and braced with his arms up. Tamamo and Kanzaki officially clashed as mirror met sword, this time Tamamo was quick to act as she made her mirror encircle the area fast enough to cause an uplift in the air which drew the sand into a spiral creating a dust devil.
Kanzaki was sent upward by the draft and Tamamo jumped after her gaining height over the Saint to deliver a heavy axe kick sending her into the beach with a thud.
"Tsuchimakado I'm not kidding we have to stop them!" Touma urged.
"Relax Kami let the women settle their dispute, it our involvement will only make things worse don't you think?"
"Tsuchimakado!!"
Kanzaki just managed to dodge a hail of icicles launched from Tamamo's talisman and responded by using her signature wire attack.
"Nanasen!!"
This time Tamamo was prepared and set up a barrier which deflected the attack. Tamamo was quick to act and set up some talismans and bringing her hand into a seal.
"Heavenly Tsunami!!"
The water began to shoot upwards about a hundred meters away and rise higher and higher as it closed in on the beach front.
"Tamamo this is too much!!" Touma shouted.
The wave began to be manipulated into a giant stream shot that swirled at a high speed rate. Kanzaki channeled mana into her nodachi Shichiten Shichitou, and slashed into the hydraulic onslaught cutting it in the process, however the split water enclosed in on itself and caught the saint inside as she was thrashed about.
Soon the water works died down as things were rendered quiet, Tamamo kept herself sharp though, meanwhile Touma and Tsuchimakado looked on with impressed looks on their faces.
"Wow, the fox can actually keep up with Zaky, looks like she is not playing this time."
"Tamamo!" Called Touma.
Tamamo looked over at Touma right there and it costed her, Kanzaki had somehow dug below the sand and shot out from right under her hitting the foxy maiden with a stiff uppercut that sent her upwards and some blood spat from mouth.
Tamamo recovers enough that she channels magic to her feet and takes flight, she then positioned her mirror in front of her before flanking it with five talismans in a pentagon formation, one envelopes with fire, the second with lightning, the third with earth, the fourth with water, and finally the fifth was a more unique sort, this was ether and it was represented by a bright white light.
"This isn't good." Tsuchimakado said.
The elements combined into the spinning mirror and Tamamo shouted.
"Five elements strike!"
A multi color beam shot from the mirror heading straight for Kanzaki who dashed away from what may be a fatal attack as the beam tore into the beach leaving a searing trail in its wake that was so hot it turned into a grail of glass.
"Foxes should not be airborne, time to ground you." Kanzaki said as she put her hands together in a prayer like manner and began to speak.
"Oh demons carrying this magic user, promptly let go!"
And just like that Tamamo found herself falling into the sand in a thud, she coughed from the dust and sand as she looked at the Saint magician with a look of confusion.
"What did you do!?"
"That was Saint Peter's interception spell, by uttering the same phrase he used the magic of flight is virtually nulled."
"Saint Peter? Wait that derives from the story where he confronted Simon Magnus who was trying to buy sacred acts! He said that same phrase as soon as Simon took flight and in the process grounded him." Tamamo deduced.
"An oriental fox witch who knows the Christian stories?"
"I lived in a church for a year stripper."
"You continue to call me such a degrading insult!?" Kanzaki shouted in annoyance.
The two shot off in a blur and the sound of constant clashing, elemental attacks and explosions rung through the beach front.
"This super intense don't you think Kami? Kami?"
Tsuchimakado looked at his friend and neighbor who was shaking in annoyance.
"Stop stop stop stop just stop…."
"Woah, you alright man?"
Both Tamamo and Kanzaki were labored in breath. They did not keep their eyes off each other for a moment.
"You're actually more formidable than the last time we faced off."
"Shut up and let's Finnish this." Tamamo said as her mirror raised over her head signifying the enabling of her Noble Phantasm. Talisman were released in all directions as purple Tori gates formed around her.
Kanzaki for her part was prepping for her single flash attack.
Meanwhile back with Touma and Tsuchimakado, Touma was at his limit with this senseless cat fight.
"Enough, that's enough…"
"Kami?"
Tsuchimakado began to back up as he felt an odd pressure wash over him. Just as the two woman were about to attack Touma finally reached the breaking point.
"THAT IS ENOUGH!!!!"
Three words that were suddenly radiant with power and authority were shot forth in a booming wave that shattered any supernatural buildup from the fight as Tamamo and Kanzaki were blasted to the ground by the force shock.
Both woman looked at the spiky teen with shocked expressions as they saw Touma's face, his teeth bearing as they seemed to be sharper and pointed before morphing back to be more human. Tsuchimakado for his part almost had his sunglasses fall of his face from his slack jawed expression.
"You both need to knock it off! There is a serious matter going on that needs to be solved and it will only be hindered if you two decide to just randomly fight!"
Tamamo looked down, the shock from earlier still sinking in, it felt like a brief moment of being dominated and subdued which oddly turned her on to a degree before she shook any unnecessary thoughts.
"He's right, there's a more important issue at hand."
"Agreed, but this isn't over fox."
"Far from it."
Eight pm rolled around as the summer night kicked off, the members of the mostly substituted Kamijou family and Tamamo were all sitting around a circular table on the first floor of the beach house, among them were Kaori Kanzaki acting on the part of Touma's friend, quite naturally taking her seat at the table. Though to others she looked like an unkempt Englishman punk friend.
Touma was wondering whether they should leave Angel Fall aside when they weren't sure when it would be completed. But so long as commotion seemed to be centered on him Kanzaki seemed to be willing to act as his bodyguard to Tamamo's annoyance since she doesn't want her anywhere near Touma.
Parenthetically, Tsuchimakado wasn't here. Maybe he was out playing with the wharf roaches behind the tetrapods or something-he did appear to the world as a problematic male idol after all. It didn't seem to be his forte as a professional spy to let a mountain of people besiege him and make it difficult to move.
One way or another, there were a bunch of real characters at the table (on the surface, anyway).
Touma wanted dinner over quickly as awkward silence reigned at the table as he watched Tamamo and Kanzaki give death glares to one another.
Melancholy news stories were being read off in the voice of Miss Komoe, about the death-row prisoner Jinsaku Hino having broken out and yet to be found. They were the only things on TV so it wouldn't make for good conversation either.
With no particular topic to broach one way or another, Touya addressed Kanzaki.
"It's nice to meet you. I'm Touma's father. To think we can live in an age where Touma can be friends with foreigners-internationalization definitely at work! Oh as a symbol of our acquaintanceship, here, have this Egyptian protective souvenir. It's a scarab. They say something about never loosing your way with it, even in a desert!"
Touya brought out a container the size of a salt shaker. Touma looked on while shaking his head at the dried bug inside.
"Can you not bring that out on the dinner table, that's just disgusting." He grunted.
"Scarabs in Egypt are depicted as a spiral image,-a symbol of samsara. I have heard it is a favored souvenir from the country, along with the Eye of Horus and ankhs."
"??? O-oh, by the way Touma. Though I don't understand the specifics one bit, you still shouldn't reject other cultures just out of your own specific prejudices.
Otohime/Mikoto scooted to him as he sighed and pulled on his clothes.
"No you're right! I'd be scared if someone used something like that as a cellphone charm. It would clatter around when you have your phone on silent!"
"Oh Otohime! Never stop being adorable!! Tamamo gushed as she grabbed the laughing girl and proceeded to tickle her. Touma smiled at the way the two interacted, from what he could recall being told by Tamamo Otohime came around often so it made for tight knit relationships in the span of the year.
Not long after the shopkeeper who was substituted with Stiyl Magnus arrived through the entrance facing the sea.
"Hey sorry for leaving the shop open like that. The cable broadcast on the beach broke, and fixing it ate up a lot of time."
"Do not worry about it. It's likely in place for tsunami information and disaster relief. People's lives depend on it, so it should be priorit- Wait, Stiyl? Wha…? That's impossible!"
"Stiyl? That some kind of new lingo."
The large man with red hair looked confused.
"Having dinner I see. The menu ain't much, but we can have it ready for you at light speed, so let us off the hook, eh?"
"I mean, er…(Gah, how careless of me. Stiyl had been here in Japan hunting for sometime.)"
It seemed that Stiyl was completely under the affects of Angel Fall. It was more than likely that most sorcerers were in the same situation and that those like Tsuchimakado and Kanzaki who had noticed something was wrong were in the minority.
Kanzaki grumbled something to herself, but nobody save for Tamamo noticed. Everyone went on deciding what they'd get from the menu, which only contained ramen, yakisoba, and curry.
"Hey Tamamo?" Touma whispered.
"What is it?"
"I'm surprised nobody was talking about the damages to the beach with your earlier scuffle."
"After you abruptly ended it, I went out of my way to clean the mess and leave no trace, as far as sounds are concerned I put up sound proof barriers in the area so nobody heard a thing outside."
"You planned ahead rather than jumped in eh?"
"I may have been mad seeing you get felt up like that but I am not stupid."
"Never said you were."
"My oh my. You sure are skilled in Japanese. I'm beside myself with admiration!" Shiina/Index said.
"Eh." Kanzaki's shoulders twitch for a moment. She then gave a brief glare to Tamamo who was snickering quietly.
"Oh no. Yes. Please don't worry yourself over it."
While Kanzaki was someone from English Puritanism like Index, a certain incident had caused them to break off relations, so she wasn't sure how to deal with her addressing her so suddenly.
However nobody knew about her circumstances (including Touma who had lost his memories).
"My oh my. And your demeanor is so polite, too. You have such a large and firm build, so I must admit I had a different impression of you at first."
That was it, Tamamo who was enjoying this so much was now beside herself as she laughed her ass off at the sheer absurdity that had befallen her saintly adversary.
Kanzaki was twitching in utter irritation at this humiliating scenario she found herself.
"Now I wonder what Tamamo might think is so funny, anyway you've got the nuance a little wrong in your word choice, though. I mean those are words girls use! You have such a sturdy body, so you've got to fix your talking to sound more manly. You're acting just a little girlie you know?"
"Ahahahaha! Oh man this is too good! Ahahaha-"
WHAP!
"Ow Touma that hurt!" Tamamo wined.
"Knock it off Tamamo her circumstances aren't that funny. What if it was you in her position." Touma whispered.
Tamamo pouted but didn't say anything.
"Hey now give it a rest you two. In language, all that matters is that the proper meanings come across. He probably just speaks this way because a Japanese woman taught him. His looks are one thing but they're not important."
Kanzaki was twitching so much but Touma was signaling for her to remember that they see her as Stiyl, and she wobbled to her feet and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt.
"Hey let him go you damn harpy!" Tamamo said as she latched onto Touma's other arm, it became a tug of war between the two with the poor unlucky teen in the middle.
"Rotten luck." Touma grumbled as Kanzaki's superior strength won out and she dragged Touma like a body bag.
"Get back here-!"
"Big sister lets play patty cake!" Otohime/Mikoto said as she pounced onto Tamamo.
When Touma asked where they were going Kanzaki said the back of the shop.
It didn't seem like Kanzaki had a destination in mind as she dragged Touma there, Touma would only mumble about troublesome woman for the rest of the way. Kanzaki then discovered a frosted glass sliding door nearby.
"Now that I think about it, this beach house has a bathroom, doesn't it? I find it hard to admit, but with all the trouble that has been going on, I haven't been able to take an actual shower."
Yes the beach house had a bathroom. It was for the same purpose as the simple showers built on the beach-to wash the salt water off one's skin.
Touma turned to her with a raised brow.
"You're being real laid back you know. What about Angel fall?"
"Yes well…I understand that personal feelings don't enter into this situation, but I can't do it. I simply cannot get used to that girl smiling at me. I haven't the right."
Touma could tell she was reflecting on something, averting her eyes from something.
"…"
Stiyl had made a similar face when they attacked the alchemist's fortress at Misawa Cram School.
"Ok, why did you drag me to the bath's? A strategy meeting? Wouldn't it be better to have Tamamo here?"
"No, the favor I'd like to ask of you is frankly to keep a lookout. That bath is for communal use, like hot springs and bathhouses right?"
"Mm."
In such a small beach house, there was no distinction between the men's and woman's bath-there was only one bathroom.
Touma immediately understood what she was inferring.
"Like I said it would be better to have Tamamo for this you know?"
"I don't want to be within 50 meters of the vixen, so you'll do."
"You don't know what you're asking for if you want me to be the lookout."
"Pft! How can this go wrong?"
Kanzaki entered the bathroom beyond the frosted glass. Touma could make out the silhouette, half baked and vivid, than the real thing would have been. He then began to imagine a similar scenario but he replaced Kanzaki with Tamamo, though he has seen her naked on a few occasions they were rare moments, most of the time it was all to the imagination.
"Hey Kami. Whatcha doin' here?"
Suddenly Tsuchimakado came walking right down the hallway.
He didn't seem to want to take take off his blue sunglasses, whether it he was inside or it was night out, to keep his disguise.
"Don't people see you as an asshole idol in deep shit?"
"Blunt as ever as you are now. As long as I'm not found out, I'm fine. I mean, that's good ol' Tsuchimakado's fundamental motto." He answered the same as always.
Touma saw everything the same about him as always.
"Sorry Kami."
"About what?"
Tsuchimakado showed him a slightly lonely grin.
"I've actually known that you've been getting into a lot of trouble until now, like with the alchemist stronghold, the Poltergeisting/mana quakes, the twenty thousand doll-murdering experiment, loosing your right eye in that date with the alter ego…"
Hearing that alarmed Touma the most.
"Don't be so surprised I found out, come I'm a spy remember. I knew about it it all and let you alone, without helping, so I'm saying sorry, ok?"
"…"
"I guess there is a huge difference between not being able to do anything because you have no power and not doing anything even though you have power. I may not look like this, but I'm actually pretty sorry for a bunch of stuff."
"…it's whatever."
"That bored tone of yours makes it hard to tell if your genuine about saying that."
"Hn." Was Touma's response.
"Alright! Let's get to the main course!"
Touma looked at his blonde friend with a curious look at his sudden shift in tone.
"Ta-daa! It's the summertime, heart-pounding Kanzaki clothes changing peeking event!"
"No."
"Gah! Come on normally you freak out at such an idea, that killjoy response is taking the fun out of this!"
"You can go ahead and die at the hands of that Bakumatsu swordsman romanticist. Leave me out of it."
"What you scared of her too?"
"She's not the one I would be afraid of." Touma said.
"Really? Oh I see, you're more worried about getting caught by your precious vixen."
"Shut up."
"I bet you wish it was her in there for you to peak on. Eh?"
"Eat shit."
"Your imagining it I know it! That flowing bubblegum hair, that perfect petite but buxom frame, those fuzzy ears and tail that would make a man of culture-"
WHAM!!!
"Shut the hell UP!!!" Shouted Touma as he slugged Tsuchimakado hard across the face, though his own was beat red.
"Back to the issue at hand you're Kanzaki's comrade, you shouldn't do that to her it's betrayal."
Righting himself and readjusting his sunglasses Tsuchimakado responded.
"Kami, Kami, within the English Puritan church I'm referred to as the back stabbing blade, or the villager from the village of liars, Tsuchimakado!"
"I'm gonna be extra weary of you after that info drop."
"You're boring, even more boring now after your little accident. Come on man just take a peak and pretend it's your foxy maiden."
"I'll end you."
"Whoa ease up."
"How long have you known Kanzaki?"
"I was in London before I arrived to Academy City for middle school. I was one of the only few who could speak Japanese and English you you see? Then Zaky, a Japanese native arrives to the church. So whenever an English person would start rattling on about something or other, she'd have to resort to all this crazy body language and man!"
Tsuchimakado hit the wall slightly.
"Back then I was the only Japanese person in Necessarius. When Zaky would come to me all worried, looking for help, with an English textbook in her hands wow did she score high with me."
"Someone actually relied…on you?" Touma deadpanned.
"That's enough banter! Peeking time!"
Tsuchimakado grabbed Touma by the collar to his charging as he struggled to get the blonde delinquent off him.
"Isn't your field range smaller and younger? Sergeant Sister-Complex!"
"Take that back! What grounds do you have to call me that Fox Fucker!"
"Fox Fucker!? Tamamo and I haven't fucked!" Touma yelled going several shades red.
"I didn't mention her specifically…" Tsuchimakado said slyly.
Touma shut his trap immediately as a can of worms had been inadvertently opened to be used against him. Now agitated he grabbed Tsuchimakado and with all his strength lifted him up and threw him as hard as he could into the brush.
'I bet if someone saw this situation they would have the perfect article pictures of a performer grabbing a boy's collar, and said performer getting tossed.'
"Hey sup big brother! Whatcha doin' here?"
Touma turned to see Shiina/Index and Otohime/Mikoto.
"Huh? Wait, are you already done with dinner?"
"My oh my. Not at all Touma. It seems it will be a bit until things are cooked, so we just thought we'd come take a bath in the meantime."
"Is Tamamo with you all?"
"She'll be here in a moment big brother, is someone in there?" Otohime/Mikoto asked.
"Oh yeah, I'm on lookout duty."
"No need for that dear it might just be your friend in there."
"You know what, there's no rule saying I should take a bath with my friend, I'll wait for him to come out." Touma quickly said.
"But if we start waiting for every single person dinner will be ready in the meantime. You're both boys so get in there!"
"Hold on-"
They threw open the sliding door and mercilessly threw Touma inside to the changing room.
There before his eyes was Kanzaki bare naked getting her hair set for her signature ponytail, there eyes locked as shock, anger and embarrassment flashed in Kanzaki's eyes.
Touma was holding a neutral expression but his face was slightly red as words formed in his head.
'Tsuchimakado you bastard, you got your wish.'
"Any last words?" Kanzaki said threateningly.
"*Sigh…New sensational katana thrusting action." Touma said monotonously as he knew this was gonna get ugly real quick.
Touma barely managed to escape a quick glint as he ran out of the bathroom, only to run directly into Tamamo.
"Peeking Touma? And on that swordsman stripper no less?"
"I-It's not what you think-!"
SLAP!!!
Touma felt his right cheek sting as an angry Tamamo walked by him.
"Rotten luck."
It was ten o'clock pm and Kanzaki was standing on the beach house's second floor balcony. Despite it being the middle of summer, it was a fairly chilly night, perhaps because the sandy beach has difficulty retaining heat during nighttime like a desert.
Then Tsuchimakado arrived having wriggled his way up one of the balcony's support pillars. Because eveyone around him would see an oft-talked about performer, he couldn't adopt a normal route to get there.
He looked at the quiet Kanzaki as her hair was whipped about by the night wind.
"What's wrong? Your face is still red. Still bothered by it?"
"It would be strange if I wasn't."
"Ack. A smokin' hot body and happy you got seen-hey I would say it was a joke but think about this, it bothered the fox, you know from what I can understand she and Kami are close but there is a lot holding them back from sealing the deal. Maybe you can take that slight opening to steal."
"What are you saying, I'm not in love with that boy first of all!"
"But you are indebted to him."
"That's all there is, just a debt to be repaid."
"Come on Zaky, if you can sneak your way into to Kami's heart it will put you one over on that vixen who beats you out by many leagues in terms of femininity."
"!! ('femininity, femininity, femininity…'). Guh!"
Touma was currently alone on the first floor of the beach house getting some thinking done. Tamamo was off letting a bit of steam, she was still mad for the misunderstanding and needed space, he could hear girlish laughter from upstairs. Shiina/Index might be playing cards with the others.
Nightly news was currently playing on TV, which was still on, it was all a rerun of daytime news with extra details to pad it out.
"The inmate known as Jinsaku Hino, has still not been located. Hino had spawned many enthusiasts and copycats because of his unique, ritualistic killing style, and police have reported it is possible they were involved in the break out as well…"
Touma stared lazily at the screen showing Miss Komoe reading the script off the CRT screen.
"…In addition there are records of Jinsaku Hino's stay at a mental hospital, and even during the last hearing, they judged him to have multiple personality disorder. The question of whether or not he should be held accountable created much uproar, but…"
"Multiple personality disorder huh, part of my summer makeup classes talked about that. Heh, now that I think about it, Tamamo kinda has something similar with the whole alter ego thing." Touma mused to himself.
"Oh sweetie, you're saying I'm a mental disorder?"
Touma's eye went wide and his face went red upon instantly recognizing that sultry tone, he turned around and his jaw went slack as more shades of red appeared on his face.
Before him was Tamamo Vitch, and she was wearing an all black two piece swimsuit, her bright pink hair loose and flowing, she sat on the nearby chair and crossed her legs very seductive like with a toothy grin showing a canine.
"V-V-V-V-Vitch!? What are y-you doing herewhendidTamamoletyouout!???" Touma sputtered the last part incoherently.
"Ahahaha, oh you're so adorable! I love the new look to. Such a bad boy feel on a supposed goody two-shoes. As for why I'm here, the original wanted an extra pair of eyes for the lookout in the case that madman serial killer swings by. I was making rounds and then recently I got bored and I just had to see you."
"Oh r-really? Well I appreciate the visit but shouldn't you go back to your task?"
"I can take a few minutes to have some fun, besides how long had it been since you and I interacted…"
Touma who was sitting on the floor tried to get up but immediately lost his balance on and fell on his ass while Vitch approached him.
"…alone." Vitch whispered as she caressed his cheek.
"Wait wait Vitch hold on!" Touma begged as Vitch pushed him down.
Touma was so torn by the situation, his innocence screaming for him to escape but the primal man in him was all about Vitch's smoking body especially in that swimsuit.
Meanwhile a pair of watchful eyes were staring at the duo in their compromising position, hidden beneath the floorboards of the beach house. There was seventy meters of empty space under the floor to prevent sand and moisture from coming in, enough for a grown individual to crawl through. The watchful eyes peeking through the slight cracks in the floor.
"…My Angel, my precious Angel."
The mouth from which those words came belonged to an unhealthy skinny middle aged man, yet his voice was high as a pre-pubescent boy.
"…Oh my precious Angel. Please here me."
Scritch-scratch.
The faint sound like a nail clawing on a wooden board. These watchful eyes in all reality had been driven into a corner.
Even he didn't want to be hiding in a place like this. His actual plan had been to visit his former associates, but his movements have been restricted because he the police had moved more quickly than he anticipated.
"My Angel, please listen, my precious Angel."
In his right hand was an oddly shaped knife. In his left hand was a notebook sized wooden plank.
Scratching the wood the madman would talk about offering sacrifices to his Angel, that he will be saved again while obeying carved out letters.
"Vitch please, this is so sudden! Come on give this Kamijou some leniency!" Touma begged.
Vitch leaned down and gently bit his earlobe.
"Now now now, just relax and let me do all the work."
Touma gulped, but before things could happen Vitch pulled Touma up just in time as a sharp object impaled through the floor.
"What the!?"
"So he really is here." Vitch said.
"Your not gonna shoot whoever is down there right!?"
"Original ordered me specifically not to kill, but I'm not above bringing pain!"
Vitch pounded her fist into the floor and tore up a few floorboards before jumping into the hole she made. The sound of a struggle could be heard as it seemed Vitch caught the the person and began a merciless physical assault.
Vitch would then come out from the whole with a beaten sickly man over shoulder which she dropped like a potato sack to her feet.
"I believe this is the loose serial killer."
Touma only looked on numbly, then he hears a click sound and looks in front of him to see Vitch pointing a pistol his way.
"Whoa Vitch-!"
"Move!" She shouted.
Doing as she said Touma ducked as she shot her pistol which thankfully had a silencer, as the bullets careened at a girl, one who was no older than thirteen, her long wavy blond hair and white skin seemed to reflect the moonlight. Her appearance was was cute, but everything on her body was out of the ordinary. She wore only an overcoat slung over the underclothing normally worn beneath a religious habit. It was however, essentially a one piece underwear, even appearing to show off her delicate body lines. To add to that, there were black belts and metal fixtures in various places. It looked like something created to serve the same purpose as a straitjacket. To top it off, reins extended from her thick choker, and many things stuck out of the belt on her waist, such as pliers, a hammer, an L-shaped nail puller, and a saw. These were instruments of torture.
"What's going on!?" Touma shouted.
"Something about this girl is dangerous." Vitch said.
AN: Finally finished this chapter! Now I can move on from there! Well hope you enjoy the read and yay Vitch is back!
