Harry Potter and the Tri-Academy Tournament

Ch.17: Fighting a Friend

"You have no idea how this feels. After all this time, I have a body again."

"You look magnificent, My Lord," Peter simpered.

"Absolutely handsome, My Lord," Bellatrix added, with a look of hunger in her eyes.

"You both must be either blind or stupid," Harry said, "He looks like what he is - an utter creep."

"How dare you speak about him that way!" she shrieked.

Voldemort smirked, "Calm yourself, Bella. Still as witty as ever, I see, Harry."

"Please spare me the speech where you talk about how we're not so different. Why did you kill Cedric?"

"Because I enjoy making you suffer. I've hurt you, and I wish to go on hurting you. I just had another brilliant thought. I shall use the power of my shadow magic to bring your friend back, but as my undead servant."

"NO! Don't you dare touch him!" Harry shouted, struggling against the two men who only grasped his arms tighter.

"Time for some entertainment," Voldemort said, ignoring Harry.

He placed his right hand on Cedric, and then his ring began to glow. He closed Cedric's eyelids as the magic enveloped his body. As soon as Voldemort moved away, Cedric's eyes opened. As he stood up, Harry could see how different he looked. His skin was deathly pale, and his sclera were black. He turned to Harry, a sinister smile on his face that should never have been there.

"I'm back, Harry. How about a rematch?"

Harry was shocked. He didn't even sound like Cedric.

"Crabbe, Goyle, drop him."

They roughly shoved him to the ground.

"Cedric, don't do this. I know you're in there. You have to fight it."

"I'm not Cedric anymore, Harry. I'm more like...Dark Cedric. No wait, how about...Deadric?"

He laughed at his own bad joke. Harry had never heard Cedric laugh that way.

"Everyone will remember this as the day Cedric Diggory defeated Harry Potter."

"Peter!" Voldemort snapped, "A new deck for our new recruit. Bring the suitcase and let him build one."

Cedric pulled his old deck out of the Duel Disk. He looked like he was about to throw it over his shoulder, but he hesitated. He then tried simply dropping the cards on the ground, but it was like his body was resisting. He growled, and then set the old deck on the ground.

"Better hurry up, Harry," Voldemort taunted, "We don't want to disappoint the audience."

Harry quickly rearranged his deck, "I'm going to save you, Cedric."

"This a lose-lose game for you, Harry. If you lose, you die. If you win, Cedric dies, for real."

"Better to be dead than your slave."

"There is nothing worse than death!" Voldemort snarled.

"Wrong as usual, Tom," Dumbledore said as he headed for the playing field.

"You can't interfere, my dear old teacher. No one can stop me this time. I made sure of that."

Voldemort grabbed the walkie talkie, "Is everything ready, my faithful servant?"

"Yes, My Lord."

"Then please come tell the audience just what's in store."

A figure hobbled forward through the fog.

"You?" Harry cried, "How could you work for him? You were a policeman!"

"That is not Alastor Moody, Harry. You have never met Moody before. That man is an impostor. You were right to suspect him. Too many things just didn't add up."

"Perceptive as always, Dumbledore. Show them the truth, my loyal servant."

Moody's appearance melted away to reveal a much younger man. He was tall and thin with dirty blonde hair. He still wore an eyepatch, but it had the same eye symbol as the one on Voldemort's ring and Peter's glove. He also kept flicking his tongue out the sides of his mouth, like it was a nervous twitch.

"You're Barty Crouch Junior."

Crouch nodded, "You might want to update your security, Dumbledore."

Crouch swaggered over to Bagman and swiped the microphone. Bagman's eyes were darting around for the nearest exit.

"Attention, duelists! This stadium has been surrounded with explosives! I have the trigger, and if anyone tries anything, I'll set them off now!"

"Now that you understand the gravity of the situation," Voldemort said, "Begin your duel, Harry. The people are here to be entertained after all."

With a heavy sigh, Harry took his position.

"I'm still your senior, Harry, so I go first. I play the Field Spell called Vampire Empire."

Several old houses appeared on the field. In the distance, a red moon rose over a castle.

"I also play a Continuous Spell, Vampire's Domain. I summon Vampire Sorcerer."

"You get the name, Harry? As in Bram Stoker?"

"Yes, I get it, thank you."

"I set a card and end my turn."

Meanwhile...

Fenrir was about to leave and nurse his gunshot wound, but the more he thought about it, the more angry it made him.

"I'm going to kill those brats," he snarled.

Just then, a large fist collided with his face.

"Skulk off back to where ye came from, ye sneaky old wolf!"

It was Hagrid, and he was livid. Fenrir, now in twice as much pain, limped away into the fog.

"Hagrid!" Bill called to him.

"Bill? Are you okay? You're bleeding."

"Never mind me. I'm sure you heard Crouch Junior. Explosives have been planted around the stadium. I'm going to look for them, but I'll need help. You get the others to join in by getting those other Death Eaters out of here."

"Count on me, Bill," he said as he hurried off.

Back to the Duel...

"I play Pot of Greed. Now, since I control no monsters, I special summon Linkslayer from my hand."

"If a monster is special summoned to a zone my Witch is pointing to, except during the damage step, I can banish one Spell card to add one Cyberse Ritual monster and one Cybenet Ritual card from my deck to my hand. Since I activated her effect, my Witch lets me target one Level 4 or lower Cyberse monster in my graveyard and special summon it. Come on back, Cyberse Wizard."

A hexagon-shaped portal opened on the ground, and the wizard popped out.

"Once per turn, I can target one attack position monster you control and change it to defense position. As a consequence, my monster can only attack that monster, but any Cyberse monster that does so gains piercing damage. Cyberse Algorithm!"

The Wizard shot a beam from his staff to force Vampire Bram into a kneeling position.

"I activate Cybenet Ritual. I tribute my Wizard and my Secretary, and that makes Level 7. The contract has been made. The sage who wields dark power inherits these two souls! Ritual Summon! Rise, Cyberse Magician!"

"I set a card and end my turn."

Cedric looked surprised. Peter looked shocked. Voldemort just looked ready to explode.

"Cyberse?"

"Yes, it's a portmanteau of cybernetic and universe."

"I know what it means!" Cedric snapped, "You've never used monsters like these before."

"Yeah, that's kind of the point. They may not be true Magicians, but they have the look. I hope I haven't ruined whatever strategy you had planned."

Cedric growled, "I'm going to drain your blood."

Meanwhile...

Remus was wrestling with the pale and burly Antonin Dolohov, while Tonks had latched herself onto the back of a huge blonde man named Thorfinn Rowle. He was slamming her against a nearby wall, while she made her grip ever tighter. Suddenly, she immediately let go. Before Rowle could react, Hagrid gave him a gut punch. As he lay winded on the ground, Hagrid then reached down and grabbed Dolohov, slammed him against the ground a few times, and then threw him.

Hagrid glared at the duo, "Get. Out."

Lupin pulled his gun, "I'd listen to the man."

The duo ran back into the fog.

"Thanks for the save, Hagrid," Tonks said.

"We'll start searching for those explosives," Lupin said, "You go help the others."

"Right," he said as he ran to another entrance.

"Dora, I've been thinking."

"About what, Remus?"

"What do say we just go ahead and get married?"

She was surprised, "Really? Today?"

"Considering the circumstances, that would probably be difficult. Let's say in a week."

She kissed him, "I love you. Now let's join the search."

At another entrance, Krum had tackled an older Death Eater only known as Travers to the ground. Krum let him go, but before Travers could get up, Hagrid kicked him in the face.

"Crawl back to where you came from," Hagrid snapped, "Or I'll do more than that."

Travers was at least smart enough to know when he was outnumbered.

"That was rather risky, Viktor."

"I could not just sit back and do nothing. Karkaroff is too busy panicking."

"They still need help finding those explosives. I'll take care of these Death Eaters."

Back to the Duel...

"During the Standby Phase, I can resurrect Vampire Bram in defense position."

The vampire clawed out of the ground and kneeled on the field.

"I activate my Trap, Vampire Awake! I special summon a Vampire monster from my deck, but it's destroyed at the end phase. I summon Drăculea Vampire."

Harry looked through his deck, sent one card to the graveyard, and then shuffled.

"Once per turn, when a card is sent from my opponent's deck to the graveyard, I target one card on the field; send one Dark Vampire from my deck to the graveyard, and then destroy the targeted card. Say goodbye to your Cyberse Magician."

The cyber mage was dragged into the ground.

"When my Cyberse Magician is destroyed by an opponent's card effect, I can add one Cyberse monster from my deck to my hand."

A large hole in the ground opened and swallowed the mage.

"Since a monster was sent from the field to your graveyard, I can remove one material from Sheridan to special summon your Magician to my side of the field in defense position."

Sheridan reached into the earth and pulled up Cyberse Wizard, only to throw him down onto the dirt.

"Thanks to Vampire Empire, all my Undead monsters gain 500 attack during damage calculation. Vampire Duke, attack his Witch!"

The vampire pounced on the witch and bit down.

"I end my turn. You're pretty good at cheating death, Harry."

"Who says Tom Riddle is the only one that can do it?"

"You dare not address him by his proper title?!" Bellatrix shrieked.

"He got his name from an anagram. He's not a real lord."

"Forgive me," Dumbledore spoke up, "It's an old habit of mine to address my students by their true names. It seems I passed on that habit."

Harry nodded, "Right, and now I'm going to save you, Cedric."

Meanwhile...

Kingsley Shacklebolt had his gun pointed at a creepy Death Eater named Mulciber, but the guy was holding a knife, and looked just unhinged enough that he would try something anyway. Just when it looked like he was about to throw his knife, Hagrid came running up, grabbed his arm, and pulled back so hard he almost broke it. Hagrid then slammed him into the closest wall...several times. Mulciber staggered off in a daze.

"I'm glad you're on our side, Hagrid."

"Likewise, Kingsley. You go, I'll clean up."

"Right."

At another entrance, Charlie was fighting a tall, greasy-haired Death Eater named Augustus Rookwood. Rookwood was tackled to the ground by Percy of all people.

"Perce, what are you doing here?"

"You're my brother."

Rookwood kicked Percy away, at which point Charlie gave him a forearm drop. As he snarled in pain, Hagrid came up and gave him a sharp kick to the midsection. He then grabbed Rookwood by the legs and dragged him a distance, swung him around, and threw him.

"Unless you want more," Hagrid threatened, "You don't come back."

Rookwood glared at him, but slowly picked himself up and disappeared into the fog.

"Thanks for the assist, Hagrid."

"Just doing my job, Charlie."

"Let's go help with those explosives," Percy said, "I believe the saying goes, no time to lose."

Cedric was now stumbling forward, "Well played, Harry."

Harry caught him before he fell. He could feel Cedric hugging him.

"Thank you, Harry. I'm free. Thank you."

Cedric's grip loosened as he passed on yet again, but this time at least he died happy. Dumbledore placed a hand on Harry's shoulder. They placed Cedric gently on the ground. Voldemort was seething. He leered at Peter, who looked around, and then quickly handed him a deck.

"Fine," Voldemort said as he snatched the deck, "I'll do it myself."
