Moonlit Destiny
Author's Note: Wrote this eighteen years ago. It's full of cringe and OOC moments, but I'm preserving it for posterity. Enjoy the story and R&R.

Chapter 16: Awakening
Netto looked down and screamed, his voice bouncing off the walls of the hollow chamber. A pink-coloured creature slid across his leg, its skin ice cold and disgusting.
"Get away!" He flailed, shaking the creature off, which scampered away.
Netto curled up into a ball and surveyed the room. His eyes wandered, taking note of his strange, Gothic surroundings. The walls were made of black stone, flames pumping through them like blood. The glassy ceiling was carved with intricate patterns, overlapping each other as they spread down the sides of the room like vines.
What is this place? Netto asked himself.
There was a throne at the center of the room. It didn't look as though it had any substance at all. Just a shadow wavering in the chilling wind.
Where's that kid I saw? Netto remembered seeing the equally strange child. Why do I feel I've seen him somewhere before?
His thoughts were interrupted by bone-splitting screams from outside the room.
Netto found a single window, deciding to venture out and seek their origin.
Now on the ledge, he could barely identify anything due to the intense fog. Only black shapes appeared in the impenetrable whiteness every now and then, the images hypnotic and savage.
Below the window, however, Netto spotted a large cage with rusted bars. Many ugly and deformed creatures were swarming around it, some like the first Netto had encountered, others completely different.
"What are they?"
"Let us out!" a voice Netto recognized pierced the cage.
"Dekao?" Netto squinted. A number of his friends were in the cage. Or shadows that gave him that impression.
More cages came into view. In each of them, people screamed and cried out in agony.
Netto tore away from the wicked sight, tumbling back inside. So terribleā¦So excessive!
"HIKARI NETTO!"
Netto's eyes followed his name to a dark figure behind a blood-red curtain.
"Tohru-kun!"
