I don't own Home Alone

Enjoy!

After all of that swimming and fun down at the pool, Kevin had cleaned himself up and was resting against the master bed as an old black and white movie blared through the television set. Becky was sitting on a chair by the table as she was deeply immersed in a page of the book that she was reading. She had always enjoyed reading but she hadn't relished it as much as she did now before leaving her position in the newspaper. Recently, she found out that horror was a captivating genre and each book that she had read had been a page turner, not to mention that she had to sleep with her nightlight on.

While his sister read, Kevin kept his eyes glued onto the television as one of the hotel staff placed large scoops of ice cream into a large dish. One of the greatest things that Kevin had discovered about this hotel was that he was able to order whatever he wanted without any limitations. The room had a heavy aroma of sugar, frosting, and every single dessert that a kid could dream of. He would never forget the look on his sister's face when she saw the desserts that room service had bought up. After a light scolding, she had immersed her taste buds into a rich chocolate pudding to the point where she had forgotten that they were spending their father's money. He knew that Becky was only looking out for him, but they just needed to have their own fun until this vacation ended. Kevin hoped that it would never end but then there came that feeling if he was ever going to see his family again. Were they even worried about him? Or Becky? Certainly they must have been doing something to try and find them but Kevin hadn't seen any results. Whatever the case was, he pushed those thoughts away from his mind and placed his hands behind his head.

"Now this is a vacation," he said to himself and rolled his eyes back over to the television, watching the story unravel before him. The room service hotel employee placed the large dish of ice cream over to Kevin and he gladly took it.

Upon hearing the characters exchange an argument, it was enough to distract Becky from her reading. She lifted her eyes and looked up at the movie that her brother was watching. "Oh you're watching Angles with even Filthier Souls?" she asked him. "Buzz was watching this in October during Halloween week."

"I caught a scene of it before mom took me out of the room," Kevin said as he saw the female lead defending her actions against Johnny. "She was not she was smooching with your brother!"

Becky looked at her brother and then at the scene that unraveled in the movie, as Johnny repeated the same words that Kevin had just said. "I guess this was the scene that you saw before mom took you out of the room." She closed her book and placed it on the table and jumped onto the bed next to Kevin. She hadn't seen this movie, then again the gangster genre wasn't something that interested her. However, it wasn't long before Johnny pulled out his Tommy gun and pointed it over to the dame. "I don't like where this is going."

Kevin didn't answer his sister as he took a spoon of his ice cream and stuffed it in his mouth. Why did this scene seem so familiar to him? He watched as the woman pleaded to Johnny to spare her life and confessing her love to him. As Johnny gave her the chance to escape Kevin whispered, "she's rat bait." Then the countdown commenced and within that suspense, bullets flew towards the woman instantly killing her. Kevin threw his hands over his eyes and shielded his sight from seeing such a devastating scene.

Becky immediately grabbed the remote and turned off the television and immediately gathered her brother in her arms. She felt his body shaking from seeing that scene and she gently soothed him. "It's okay Kevin," she whispered to him, "that scene is over."

Kevin hated being vulnerable, but how was he supposed to react to something so frightening? He was glad that his sister was here with him. "Can we put on something else?" he asked her, wanting to forget about that whole movie.

"Sure!" Becky said as she picked up the remote and began to flip through the channels. "And no more gangster movies until you're thirty." She pressed the button the remote until she found an appropriate channel that they could both watch. "Here, why don't we watch these Christmas carols. I know you love them so much."

"At least it's better than that scene," Kevin shuddered and leaned against the bed, taking in the beautiful vocals of a young Christmas caroler that was singing 'Silent Night.'

And now it's time for reading again Becky thought as she picked up her book and began to read on the page that she had left off:

His eyes scanned across the dark room. The eighteenth century portraits stared back at him, as if judging him for disturbing their peace. According to the legend, this house had it's own tale and it wasn't for the lighthearted. Reaching over to one of the portraits, he swiped his hands against the painting that was laced with cobwebs and centuries year old dust. Before his eyes was a picture of a beautiful young woman. Her blond curls hung on her head and dainty ringlets spilled behind her ears. It looked as if she was smiling at him but there was something sad in her eyes.

BAM!

He turned his head when he heard thunder outside of the room. He whipped around and looked out the window only to see the shadow of the branches seeping inside the house. He turned back and looked at the portrait, only to see the blond's mouth twisted into a shape of agony and her eye sockets empty with blood seeping out of them.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

"Housekeeping," came a voice from outside the door. Kevin immediately gasped, causing Becky to look up from her book and over at the door. She hated when the scenario in the book made it look like it was happening in the real world.

"Becky, hide," Kevin whispered to his sister as he jumped out of the bed and headed over to the bathroom.

Becky closed her book and looked at where she could hide. She peeked under the bed and saw that it was too small of a space for her to hide. She got to her feet and then bolted into the closet. It was bit of a tight fit but she was able to hide inside. She heard the shower faucet turning on as water spilled into the bathtub. Whatever Kevin was planning, she hoped that it worked. She heard footsteps coming into the room and peeking through the closet blinds, Becky took notice of the uniform. It was indeed a hotel employee and she feared that he may have found out about their charade. Oh boy, they were in big trouble and they were going to be out in the streets because of this. She couldn't make out the name of this hotel employee, but there was an air of importance around him that was evident to Becky that he wasn't someone who was so easily fooled. Take it easy, Kevin she prayed and hoped that her brother wouldn't get caught. She watched as this man walked from the bedroom and into the bathroom where the shower was running.

"We know a guy who can do the cool jerk! We know a guy who can do the cool jerk!" Uncle Frank's voice blared from the bathroom and Becky was caught off guard at what was going on in there. Whatever it was, it seemed that Kevin's plan was working and before she knew it, she heard, "get outta here you nosy little pervert or I'm gonna slap you silly."

Just like that, she saw the hotel employee dashing out of the bedroom and into the living room. She heard a small crash and waited in the closet until the door closed. Staying the the closet for a minute more, she slipped out when Kevin came out of the bathroom. "Who was that and what did you do?" she asked him.

"Hotel concierge," Kevin answered her, "I guess he's as suspicious as the desk clerk was when she checked us in."

Great Becky thought. "And why did he run out of the room like he had seen a ghost?"

"My mom packed that inflatable clown to play in the pool with," Kevin said to her, "turns out he's a better decoy than a toy."

"Geeze Kevin," Becky said as she sat back on the bed, "you can use any random object for your benefit."

"Hopefully he won't be coming up here again," Kevin said as he sat next to his sister. He picked up his father's backpack and scoured through the items that were in there until his hands picked up an address book. "But in case they do find out, I think Uncle Rob and Aunt Georgette live somewhere around here." He flipped through the address book until he found his uncle's name and the street where they lived. "If they're back from Paris, we can drop by and stay with them."

"That's a good idea," Becky agreed, "and we can make a call to mom and dad. I'm sure they're..." she trailed off as she looked at the wounded look on Kevin's face. "What's wrong?" she asked.

"It's like last year," Kevin said with a shrug of his shoulders, "only different. How are mom and dad going to find us where they wouldn't know where to look? It's a big city Becky."

Kevin did have a point, but she knew how determined their mother was. Last year, she had done everything that she could to grab the earliest flight to come back home. This time, Becky believed that she was doing just the same. The universe had it's way of figuring things out and for sure she knew that their family was going to come and get them. It was only a matter of time when they did, all Kevin and Becky needed to do was be patient. "We'll be okay, Kevin," Becky smiled down at him, "and knowing both mom and dad, I know that they are doing everything they could to come to us."

As comforting as her words were, Kevin craved those nightly hugs that his mother gave him before he went to bed. "I hope so," he answered to Becky as he walked over to the window and looked out. Even during the night, New York was extremely beautiful. Every building shined brightly as it displayed the red, white, and green. Symbolic colors of Christmas. A time where wishes would come true and for Kevin, the one wish that he wanted was to see his family again. Somewhere, he could feel that his mother was wishing for the same. "Good night, mom," he said hoping that his words would carry out in the distance and reach her, wherever she was.

In the back of the room, Becky felt her heart skip a beat when she heard Kevin. As he walked to the bed, Becky held out her arm and enveloped him in a hug and kissed him on the head. "Let's get some sleep," she said to her brother, "we have a big day ahead of us."

"We do?" Kevin asked her.

"Oh yes," Becky nodded her head, "while you were busy swimming, I went ahead and ordered a limousine for us for tomorrow. We're going to take a drive around New York and see what we can do before coming back."

Upon those words, Kevin's eyes brightened at his sister as he gave her a hug. "Have I ever told you you're the best sister ever?"

"Well," Becky said as she counted off her fingers, "let's see...hmmm...multiply it by four, square root of two, carry the one...uh, I think this is the first time you have ever said it to me," she joked and dodged when Kevin threw a pillow at her. "Hey, be careful because we're not paying for broken items in here. Come on, let's get ready for bed," she said as she threw the pillow back on the bed and the two siblings got ready for a peaceful night of rest.
