Chapter Text

Max had been overjoyed when he beamed down from the Nivahr three days after he'd arrived to Kitittan aboard the Sun Rise Beauty. He had beamed aboard the Nivahr that morning but had been able to witness the change of command aboard the freighter before leaving. A small runabout had docked at the freighters port airlock and Viola's brother had stepped through followed by a Vulcan matriarch. Four other people followed. Two Vulcan Reldai and two humans. Family elders Max noted as he stood just down the hallway from where the air lock. The Reldai had quickly scooped up the 2 toddlers and as they settled into the arms of the two care givers. The Matriarch stood in front of Violla and raised her hand. Violla had bowed her head as the Matriarch had touched the meld points on her face then stood. She must be favored, Max thought, noting how much at ease the lady Captain stood in this exchange. Beside her. Myra stood quietly and took in the exchange between the matriarch and her mother. The elder Vulcan shortly broke the meld appearing pleased at what had been shared in the meld. She turned her head slightly and regarded Myra with a cocked eyebrow. When Myra smiled shyly and bowed her head. The matriarch joined with her mind. She held the contact for a moment then pulled her hand away from Myra, but not before caressing the young lady's jaw line. So they are both favored then. Max thought as he relaxed against the bulkhead and watched.

"Thou has done thy duty favored daughter. Thou is aware of what is asked of thee?"

Violla nodded solemnly as she returned the attention her adoptive matriarch gave. Her daughter stood as straight as she could next to her mother, her attention completely focused on the interaction between the two. Max quickly understood that they had decided to do the hand off this way as a way to preserve the caregivers dignity, because for all intents. She would become a semi permanent care giver from today onward. As saddening as it was. Max was somewhat grateful that it was being handled in this manner. It would reinforce the sense of community, the sense of belonging in there. And that they had an essential purpose that was unsullied by outside means. Max realized that part of his governorship from now on would also entail maintaining contact with all of Genevieve's caregivers. Including the Vulcans. He almost wanted to curse at that moment. But the persons to be angry with were the idiots that had literally chased them off their homeworld. When the matriarch had completed her work with Violla and Myra. She had turned to him and with a bow addressed him in a short phrase of Vulcan. He did not understand. But he realized with the respect she was rendering to him it was important. He returned with a respectful nod. Then the matriarch with a short comment to Violla's brother. Turned and reentered the airlock. Violla and Myra followed. That was Max's queue to enter the airlock himself. As he passed her brother. He felt a touch on his shoulder and turn to face the younger man who thanked him. Max in turn thanked him and stepped into the airlock to assume his duties planetside. He managed two steps into the airlock before Ni'Vahr's transporter plucked him away

He stood for a moment by the hatch of the small flitter he'd appeared beside after the Ni'Vahr beamed him down and looked around at what he could see of the active base. The small vessel had come down on a large slab that stretched away across a flat plain. Five square miles, he thought recalling the intel he'dread up on the colony. All manner of ships and support equipment lined up in orderly rows with crews attending their duties. Sevrin and T'Sar had joined him and like him looked around at the organized chaos around them. Violla, Myra, each holding a twin toddler had also alighted from the just arrived shuttle and emulated Max. They had not been standing there too long when another small flitter showed up, and a young Vulkhansu Opened the hatch and bade them to board. They immediately did so and we're whisked across that expansive pavement around park shuttles, runabouts and cargo lifts. Through the forward windscreen, Max could make out the roof lines of the distant colony. A series of Quonset huts that stood rather tall on the horizon. About 3 miles away from the point of departure. About five minutes later, Max was able to step out onto the pavement in front of one of the larger ones. One that was closest to the tarmac. He was joined by Sevrin and T'Sar. While Viola and Mira and the toddlers stayed in the flitter. Their destination was elsewhere. Max took a moment to watch the flitter disappear into the colony proper. Then turned and with his companions approached the larger building. Entering through a door at the center of the building he was amazed how much space that building had. A young intern directed him to the elevator in the center where at the top of the open shaft was a bridge going to the top floor at either end of the building. Going to the elevator up to the second floor he turned to the right from the elevator and walked straight into the office. And stood there stunned. The entire wall opposite the door was a floor to ceiling window. This end of the building faced the airfield and he almost lost himself in watching the endless activity going on out there. He stood there taking it all in for just a moment more before turning his attention to the rest of the office. Sevrin and his mother had accompanied him and stood patiently alongside him considering the view. No one spoke. They were joined shortly by a young intern passed him a PADD and welcomed him to Kitittan.
